Mauricia Morant
ORANGEBURG — Ms. Mauricia M. “Mickey” Morant, 32, of 1216 Beauregard St., died Dec. 3, 2004, at the Regional Medical Center.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 7, 2004, at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church with burial in Belleville Memorial Gardens. The casket will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. The Rev. D. Edward Chaney and the Rev. Nathaniel McMillan will be officiating. Active pallbearers will be her cousins, and honorary pallbearers will be trustees and deacons of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday at Blythewood Funeral Home. Friends may call at the residence of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy (Frances) Morant, 1216 Beauregard St., and the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Orangeburg County Special Needs and Disabilities Board Foundation.
Mauricia Michelle Morant, affectionately known as “Mickey,” was born in Allendale County, South Carolina on January 14, 1972. She was the daughter of Leroy and Frances Frazier Morant.
She was educated at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School where she graduated in 1992. After graduation, she worked for many years with the Orangeburg County Special Needs and Disabilities Board Workshop Center. At an early age “Mickey” joined Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church where she was a very devoted member. She was active in Ward Four, Sunday School, Bible Study, N.C. Nix Willing Workers, Teen Companion Club, Young Women’s Auxiliary, Youth Outreach Enrichment Program, Women’s Guild and the Sunbeam and Junior Choirs. Mickey was also involved in the Orangeburg Community through Girl Scouts and Mary B. Thomas Girls Circle.
Mickey was a loving and caring person. She was always ready to do whatever she could to help her family, friends, neighbors and others. Her caring spirit also led her to help children around the world. She sponsored a child in need and would send personal donations, birthday cards and special occasion greetings. She took joy in knowing that she could help make someone else live better.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories her parents, Leroy and Frances Frazier Morant, of the home; three sisters, Marquetta Morant, of Rock Hill, Marilyn (Trevor) Williams, of Bellevue, Nebraska, and Myra Morant, of the home; one brother, Michael Morant, of the home; and one nephew, Elisha Williams of Bellevue, Nebraska; 13 aunts; 10 uncles; one granduncle; one grandaunt and a host of other relatives and special friends.
Murray Prince
PARKSVILLE — Services with burial with Masonic rites for Murray W. Prince, 80, retired with S.C. Highway Dept., are 2 p.m. Tuesday (visitation 6-8 tonight) at Parksville Baptist Church. Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home, Edgefield, is in charge. Born in Edgefield Co., he died Dec. 5, 2004. Surviving: wife, Francena Prince; children, Aubrey Prince, Diane Minton; sister, Jennie Hamilton; 3 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren.
Teresa Wood
CAYCE — Graveside services for Teresa Kay Wood, 52, of Cayce, will be held at 1pm Tuesday at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery, Blacksburg, SC, officiated by Mr. Nelson Broome and Rev. J.O. Reed. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Monday at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia.
Ms. Wood died Saturday, December 4, 2004. Born in Gaffney, SC, she was the daughter of Joann Broome McDaniel and the late Marvin McDaniel. A lifelong area resident, she was a member of Northside Baptist Church.
Surviving, in addition to her mother of Cayce, are her daughter, Beth Wood of Gaston; son, Robby Wilson of Gaston; maternal grandparents, Nelson and Lois Broome; grandchildren, Ashley Fleeman and Harley Williamson; niece, Christian Kreider; and great niece, Caroline Kreider. Ms. Wood was preceded in death by her sister, Beth Lybrand.
Gene Ogle
WILMINGTON, N.C. — Services for Vertus Eugene “Gene” Ogle, 78, will be held at 11 a.m. today at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home, Hartsville, S.C., with burial in Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery. Born in Hildebran, N.C., to Vernon and Katie Young Ogle, he died December 5, 2004. He had a grand sense of humor. Surviving are wife, Lessie Hunter Ogle; daughters, Pamela M. and Holly S. Ogle.
Julian Baker
HARLEYVILLE — Julian Lamar Baker, 80, of 328 East Main St., Harleyville, died Monday, December 6, 2004, in a Charleston Hospital. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday, December 8, 2004, at the First United Methodist Church of Harleyville with Rev. Ed Reynolds and Rev. Ed Westbury officiating. Burial will follow in the Harleyville Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday, December 7 at Bryant Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be William H. Epps, Jr., John W. Baker, Gerald Baker, Halzy Baker, James Dupree and Shawn Dupree.
Mr. Julian Baker was born May 15, 1924, in Clarendon County, a son of the late Richard Halzy Baker and Essie Elmer Morris. He worked for 38 years as a mechanic and crane operator at Giant Cement Plant. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Harleyville and a graduate of Gable High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II where he received a Purple Heart, a past commander of the American Legion Post 128 and a member of Egeria Lodge #71 AFM.
Surviving are his wife, Mildred Westbury Baker of Harleyville; one son, Dennis Lamar (Kay) Baker of Summerville; two daughters, Mildred Eugenia (Jeannie) (Kirby) Knight of Harleyville and Marlene Elizabeth (Gary) Christensen of Hanahan; six grandchildren, Gary Chistenson, Jr. of Hanahan, Kally Knight of Charleston, Ryan Knight of Houston, TX, Mindy Knight of Charleston, Bryan and Kevin Baker, both of Summerville.

LEXINGTON — Services for Russell L. Day, Sr., 58, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 8, 2004, at Florence Baptist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Day died Sunday, December 5, 2004. Born in Lexington, SC, he was the son of the late Pat Taylor and Rosie Lee Day Taylor.
He is survived by his son, Russell Day, Jr.; daughters, Rosemary Hayword and Laura Day; grandchildren, Russell Day, III, Angel and Victoria Day, Alicia Kilburn, Destiny Harris, and John, Lisa and Clayton Hartley; brothers, Charles W. Day, Sr., Eric C. Keisler, and Dwight W. Day; sisters, Faye Frye, and Jennett Douglas. Mr. Day was preceded in death by his son, David Haywood and sister, Jewel Huntington.

Lois Jackson
COLUMBIA — Mrs. Lois Durham Jackson, 82, of Manor Care of West Columbia, SC (formerly of Chester), widow of C. Goodwin Jackson and John P. Brown Sr., died Monday, December 6, 2004, in Lexington Medical Center, Columbia, SC. Graveside service is 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2004, in Chester Memorial Gardens with Reverend Mel Arant.
Born May 15, 1922, in Greenville, SC, she attended the schools of Chester and Winthrop College, was a retired department store clerk and an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed working with the tape ministry. Her hobbies were gardening, cooking and, especially, enjoying her grandchildren.
Survivors: son, J. Paul Brown and wife, Judy, of Greenville, SC; stepdaughters, Ginny Womack of Shreveport, LA, Mary Nell Wilson and husband, Jim, of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Matthew Brown, Karen McCarson, Nell Forester, Jim Womack, Amy Wilson and Kendall Love; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred Saltmarsh of VA.
