Ida T. Tisdale
Ida Virginia Tucker Tisdale, 70, widow of Edward J. Tisdale, died Sunday, November 4, 2001, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 6, 1931, in Williamsburg County, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Elizabeth Hodge Tucker.

Survivors include a sister, Ola Elizabeth Tisdale of Greeleyville.

She was preceded in death by a son, Edward Tisdale Jr.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services were 11 a.m. Tuesday in Manning Cemetery with the Revs. Eugene T. Moiser and Paul Sanders officiating.

Ida A. Harvin
Ida Alexander Harvin, 90, widow of George Harvin, died Sunday, November 11, 2001, at her home.

Born May 22, 1911, in Manning, she was the daughter of the late Spencer and Ida Alexander. In her youth, she joined St. Mary’s Holiness Church. She retired from Savage Glover School after 33 years of employment and also worked for Barnette’s Peach Factory.

Survivors include a son, James Harvin of Sumter; a daughter, Elizabeth Harvin of Sumter; five grandchildren whom she raised, Jimmie Harvin, Ella Harvin, Freddie Thompson, Harrison Thompson and Joe Louis Anderson; two brothers, Jimmie Conyers of Pamplico and Sun Alexander of Winston Salem, N.C.; a sister, Mary Nesmith of Durham, N.C.; 22 additional grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren; and 40 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sons, Joseph and George Harvin and Willie Grinnell; two daughters, Edna H. Sharper and Lila Mae Thompson; and two grandsons, Marshall Sharper and Raymond Harvin.

Services were 3 p.m. Friday at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry W. Barnes officiating. Burial followed in Hillside Memorial Park.

John M. Lawson
BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- John M. Lawson, 52, husband of Frances T. Lawson, died Tuesday, November 6, 2001, at his home after a brief illness.

Born in Summerton, he was the son of the late Wendell Lawson and Elizabeth Lawson McConico.

Services were 1 p.m. Monday at Greater St. Phillip RMUE Church with the Rev. Warren Hatcher, pastor, officiating.

Burial followed in Greater St. Phillip RMUE Church Cemetery.

Archie K. Coker Sr.
Archie Kelly Coker Sr., 71, widower of Barbara McLeod Coker, died Monday, November 19, 2001, at his home.

Born in Alcolu, he was the son of the late Archie Elston Coker and Margaret Ellen Sims Coker. Mr. Coker was retired owner of Coker Mobile Homes in Lugoff and a member of Harmony Church.

Survivors include two sons, Archie Kelly Coker Jr. and his wife, Margie, of Manning and Kevin Coker of Tallahassee, Fla.; four daughters, Gail Waynick and her husband, Harold, of Sumter, Belva Bradley and her husband, Mark, of Manning, Paula Cox and her husband, Mike, of Sumter and Cristi Kinder and her husband, Scott, of Sumter; a sister, Margaret C. Yates and her husband, Jim, of Sumter; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Blonzo, Burdell, Rudolph and Woodrow Coker; and two sisters, Mary Bouchette and Odessa Browder.

Services were 2 p.m. Wednesday in the sanctuary of Harmony Church with the Rev. Drew Choate officiating.

Burial followed in Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Harmony Church.

Friendly Wilder
Sumter - Friendly Wilder, 55, widower of Lillian Rhames Wilder, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 19, 1946, in Summerton, he was the son of the late Bertie Wilder and Rebecca Johnson Wilder. He attended Clarendon County public schools. He was employed by Mack’s Rabon Jr. Farms in Aynor for 13 years.

Survivors include two sons, Rochester Wilder of Summerton and Freddie Wilder of Sumter; two daughters, Rochelle Wilder of Sumter and Diane Robinson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two brothers, Leo Wilder of Wilmington, N.C., and Earl Wilder of Summerton; two sisters, Easterover “Feola” Adams and Eva Mae Brown and her husband, Leo, all of Summerton; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, two brothers and a sister.

Services were held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Silver community, with the Rev. William L. Chandler officiating.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Evelena G. Parker
Evelena Glover Parker, 75, widow of Willie “Bill” Parker Sr., died Monday, July 23, 2001, at the home of her daughter.

Born Sept. 27, 1925, in the Summerton community of Clarendon County, she was the daughter of the late David and Hester Black Glover. Mrs. Parker attended Clarendon County public schools. She was a member of Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church in Summerton and a retired farmer.

Survivors besides her husband include four sons, Lee Ernest Glover of Summerton, Willie M. Parker Jr. of Sumter, George Parker of Walterboro and Robert “Rob” Parker of Manning; four daughters, Mamie Ruth Green of Summerton, Runette Parker and Dorothy Gaters of Baltimore, Md., and Sarah Parker of the home; two brothers, George and Willie Henry Glover of Summerton; two sisters, Mary Jane Glover of Summerton and Lucille Robinson of Detroit, Mich.; 35 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five children.

Services were 4 p.m. Saturday at Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. William T. Johnson officiating.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

W. Layton Welch
Sumter - Willie Layton Welch, 63, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002 at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born March 22, 1939, in Turbeville, he was the son of Susanna Floyd Welch and the late William Melton Welch. He was a retired sign painter.

Survivors besides his mother of Sumter include three sons, Willie L. Welch Jr., Sammy Welch and Jeffrey Allen Welch of Sumter; two daughters, Bessie Welch Brown of Sumter and Charlene Marie Welch Kennedy of Walterboro; a brother, Jackson Clem Welch of San Antonio, Texas; five sisters, Mamie Lee, Janie Lee Welch, Liza Ann Anderson and Barbara Ann Norton of Sumter and Virgie Lee Corbett of Camden; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, William Melton Welch Jr.

Services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home, with the Revs. Bobby Driggers and Roy Bowman officiating.

Burial followed in Pine Dale Cemetery, Turbeville.

Lillie S. Hilton
Lillie S. Hilton, 63, widow of Deacon James Hilton Sr., died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital in Charleston.

Born Oct. 9, 1938, in Manning, she was the daughter of Oliver Servance and the late Gertude Jones Servance. She was the stepdaughter of Lula Allean Servance. She attended Clarendon County public schools. In her youth, she attended Hickory Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors besides her father of Manning and stepmother of Lancaster, Pa., include a companion, Gilbert Ludd of the home; three sons, James Hilton Jr., Herbert Hilton and John Kenneth Hilton of Manning; two daughters, Shirley Hilton and Debra Hilton of Manning; six brothers, Oliver Servance Jr. and James Servance and his wife, Mary Lou, Raymond Servance and his wife, Daisy, and Joseph Servance and his wife, Margaretta, of Manning, Willie Louis Servance and his wife, Esther, of Lancaster, and Isiah Servance and his wife, Rebecca, of Sumter; three sisters, Mamie Lucky and her husband, James, of Charlotte N.C., and Ella Ree Pompey and Della Mae Cantey of Lancaster; a step brother , Johnny Robinson and his wife, Rosetta, of Manning; and a granddaughter, Michelda Samuels of Alcolu.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hickory Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Greeleyville Highway, Manning, with the Rev. Gussie Ceasar, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Jack Morant.

Burial followed in Goodwill Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery, Bloomville.

Ben Green Jr.
Ben Green Jr., 55, husband of Lillian Tindal Green, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at St. John Hospital in Detroit, Mich.

Born July 15, 1947, in Summerton, he was a son of the late Ben Green Sr. and Sue Robinson Green. He attended Clarendon County public schools and graduated from Scott’s Branch High School. He was a member of Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church and was employed by Ford Motor Co. in Detroit.

Survivors besides his wife include a son, Tyrone Pack of Detroit; an adopted daughter Angela Coleman of Detroit; three brothers, Sammy L. Green and his wife, Mamie, and John Green of Manning, and William Green of Sumter; and four sisters, Carrie Lee Johnson and her husband, Leroy, of Baltimore, Md., Sara Green and her husband, Leory, of New York, NY., and Sue G. Wilson and Bobbie G. Johnson and her husband, Arthur, of Sumter.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church, Summerton, with the Rev. W.T. Johnson, pastor, officiating.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Vivian G. Black
Vivian Geddings Black, 94, widow of Clyde Joseph Black Sr., died Sunday, August 11, 2002, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Born August 31, 1907, in Paxville, she was the daughter of the late Paul C. and Bessie Ridgill Geddings.

She was a member of Paxville United Methodist Church, and was a member of the Retired Teacher’s Association, and Paxville Methodist Missionary Association.

Surviving are three sons, Clyde J. Black Jr. of Ridgeway, James C. Black and L. Marshall Black of Manning, a daughter, Betty. B. Geddings of Dalzell; 16 grandchildren; and 29 grea-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Curtis O. Black, and a granddaughter, Kinsey Black Jones.

Services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home. The Rev. Dick Broomall officiated.

Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Sumter.
