Daisy H. McIntosh
Daisy H. McIntosh, 68, widow of H.L. McIntosh Sr., died Tuesday, October 1, 2002, at her home.

Born in Darlington County, she was the daughter of the late C.B. Howell and the late Beulah Irene Andrews Howell.

Survivors include three sons, Harrison McIntosh Jr. and his wife, Angie, Ronald Steve McIntosh and his wife, Linda, and Ned A. McIntosh and his wife, Deborah, of Manning; two daughters, Barbara McIntosh Witherspoon and her husband, Roy, of Summerton and Debbie McIntosh Wilk and her husband, Jan, of Manning; two sisters, Jennie H. Thompson of Myrtle Beach and Sara H. Langston of Columbia; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, W.L. Howell, Ralph Howell and James Howell; and one sister, Grace Hicks.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Summerton Baptist Church with the Revs. Tom Mellette and Rob Pierce officiating.

Burial followed in Brewington Cemetery in Clarendon County.

Pallbearers were Brad McIntosh, Lee McIntosh, Ronnie McIntosh, Mark McIntosh, Billy Wheeler and Jimmy Jordan Jr.

Memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Association, 60 Bay St., Suite #401, Staten Island, New York 10301 or to the Summerton Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 98, Summerton, S.C. 29148.

Mary Belle Floyd Richburg
Mary Belle Floyd Richburg, 67, wife of Charles Olden Richburg, died Friday, October 4, 2002, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.

Born April 10, 1935, in Clarendon County, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Mamie Cutter Morris. She was a member of Little Star Pentecostal Holiness Church, and was first married to the late Vernon LeGrande Floyd.

Survivors besides her husband include two daughters, Sandy Ritchey of Southlake, Texas; and Jeannie Vannucci of Burkburnett, Texas; a sister, Ava Justice of Manning; four brothers, Pressley Morris, Frankie Morris and Billy Morris of Manning, and Donald Morris of Alcolu; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Katherine A. Sikes.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in Little Star Pentecostal Holiness Church in Alcolu, with the Rev. Morris Smith officiating.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Little Star Pentecostal Holiness Church, P.O. Box 391, Manning.

Rev. David Wells
Hartsville - Rev. David Wells, 84, died Monday, September 16, 2002, at the Callie and John Rainey Hospice Home in Anderson.

Born October 20, 1917, in Clarendon County, he was the son of the late Robert and Ethel Jones Wells. He was a graduate of Furman University, Southern Seminary and had attended Harvard Theological Seminary. He served as an Army Chaplain in the Third Armored Division during WWII. Upon his return from Europe he served as pastor of the Eutawville and Corinth Baptist Churches. He went to West Hartsville Baptist Church in 1952, serving as its first minister for more than 20 years. He had also pastored the Varnville Baptist and Nesmith Baptist Churches.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Josephine Brunson Wells of the home; a son, Dr. David J. Wells Jr. of Fairfax, Va.; two daughters, Bee Manship and her husband, Calvin, of Charlotte, Martha Usher and her husband, Troy, of Due West; six grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth Wells Patrick of Summerton; a half-brother, Joe Wells of Pinewood; and a half-sister, Thena Goff of Sumter.

Graveside services were held at 9 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, in Magnolia Cemetery.

Lonuies Anderson Jr.
Sumter - Lonuies “Fep” Anderson Jr., 64, died Wednesday, October 9, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born May 29, 1938, in Clarendon County, he was the son of the late Lonuies Anderson Sr. and Bertha Cain. He attended Clarendon County public schools. He was a former member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church and the Open Door Baptist Church, after moving to Philadelphia. He was employed as a brick mason and cement finisher, working for the Colivetta Brothers Co. for more than 30 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Anna Marie Anderson of Sumter; three brothers, Hammie Anderson of Brooklyn, N.Y., Walter Anderson of Sumter and Willie Anderson of Philadelphia; and two sisters Edith Billie of Sumter and Victoria McCoy of Philadelphia.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Minnie Lee McGee and Eloiuse Anderson.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Congruity Presbyterian Church USA with the Rev. William Jones, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Revs. Wayman Blackstock, Marriott Hall and Joe Nathan Anderson.

Willie Anderson, Hammie Anderson, Walter Anderson, Lowell Stevens, Edward White and Joseph Macking served as pallbearers.

William F. Bain
Sumter - William “Bill” Floyd Bain, 49, husband of Bonnie E. Burrows Bain, died Thursday, October 10, 2002, at his home.

Born in Oxford, N.C., he was the son of Ruth Haring Bain Maye and the late Floyd F. Bain.

Survivors besides his wife of Sumter and his mother of Manning include his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. A.M. Burrows of Sumter; a daughter, Kristi Lynn McLeod and her husband, Chad, of Sumter; a grandson, Chad Hamilton McLeod Jr. of Sumter; two step-brothers, Anthony Maye of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and Joseph Maye Jr. of Manning; five sisters, Marian B. Lowery of Jarrett, Va., Mary Ellen Reed of Destin, Fla., Margaret Brown of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., Faye Greene of Prattsville, Ala., and Dottie Schmit of Oxford, N.C.; two brothers-in-law, Morris A. Burrows of Fla., and Adrian M. Burrows III of Texas; a sister-in-law, Patricia Ann Reed of Louisiana; two uncles, Paul Haring of Sumter and Cliff Haring of Marion, Ohio; and his very dear friends, Keith and Ann Schultz of Sumter.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Joseph A. Maye Sr.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Eugene Mosier officiating.

Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Fritz Braz, Johnathan Bryan, Keith Schultz, Mike Basso, Mike King and Joseph Summerour served as pallbearers. Members of the Sumter Business Network served as honorary pallbearers.

Rhodes M. Barrineau
Olanta - Rhodes Marvin Barrineau, 74, husband of Reonell Floyd Barrineau, died Tuesday, October 8, 2002, at a Kingstree nursing facility after an illness.

Born in Florence County, he was the son of the late James William Barrineau and Inez I. Driggers. He attended Pine Dale Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a Mason and a member of Beulah Lodge No. 259. He retired from Santee Printworks in Sumter.

Survivors besides his wife of Lake City include two sons, Brent D. Barrineau and Mark S. Barrineau and his wife, Rachelle, of Lake City; two brothers, Morrell Barrineau and Venroe Barrineau of Turbeville; two sisters, Mildred Osborne and Willowdean Ross of Turbeville; and a grandson, Jacob Rhodes Barrineau.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Pine Dale Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery.

Timothy Conyers
Sumter - Timothy “Dingum” Conyers, 50, husband of Barbara Ann China Conyers, died Monday, October 7, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born February 17, 1952, in Clarendon County, he was the son of Junious Conyers and Louise Smith Conyers. He attended Clarendon County public schools and was a 1971 graduate of Scott’s Branch High School. He was employed at Sumter Utility for more than 20 years, where he worked as a machine operator.

Survivors include two sons, Roderica R. China and Keywanea D. Conyers of the home; a foster child, Rahmel York of the home; and five brothers, Willie Smith of Brooklyn, N.Y., Hugh Conyers and Daniel Conyers of Columbia, and Sammy Lee Conyers and Joseph Conyers of Silver.

Services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Chapel AME Church in Paxville with the Rev. William Scott officiating, assisted by the Revs. Nate Brock, Kenneth Choice, Jack Dias and Joseph Pringle.

Burial followed in Hillside Memorial Park in Sumter.

Sons of Allen served as pallbearers.

Nieces, cousins and sisters-in-law served as floral bearers.

Michael D. Kirby
Cades - Michael David Kirby, 50, died Friday, October 11, 2002, at Carolinas Hospital System in Lake City, S.C.

Born in Cades, S.C., he was the son of the late Eugene Talmadge and Emmie Covington Kirby. He was owner/operator of Kirby’s Machine Shop, a member of Floyd’s Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he was President of Men Fellowship and was President of Hebron Saddle Club.

Surviving are his wife, Pamela Powell Kirby of Cades; one son, Michael David “Mikey” Kirby of Cades; two daughters, Pamela Marie Kirby of Cades and Michelle Dennison of Lake City; five sisters, Kathy Kirby (Ronny) Cox of Cades, Janice Kirby (Wesley) McCutcheon of Lake City, Judy Kirby (J.W.) Brown of Sumter, Dianne Kirby (Mack) Miles of Sardinia and Blanche Kirby (Neese) Moore of Lynchburg; one brother, Ronald (Belvadeen) Kirby of Cades; and one granddaughter, Cortney Dennison of Lake City.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, in the Floyd’s Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Free Will Baptist Home for Children, P.O. Box 229, Turbeville, S.C. 29162.

Sydney D. Stewart
Raleigh, N.C. - Sydney DeLaine Stewart died Saturday, October 5, 2002, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.

Born April 11, 2002, in Raleigh, N.C., she was the daughter of Wayne Stewart and Maureen Jones Stewart.

Survivors besides her parents include maternal grandparents, Otis and Belinda Powell of Rocky Mount, N.C.; maternal great-grandparents, Ernest and Susanna Jones of Wendell, N.C.; and paternal grandparents, Jimmie Stewart of Summerville, S.C., and Marquirite L. DeLaine of Manning.

She was preceded in death by paternal great-grandparents, Lewis and Lula DeLaine.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Wake Chapel Baptist Church in Raleigh.

Burial followed in Riley Hill Baptist Church in Wendell.

Arthur J. Hornbeck
Arthur Jacob Hornbeck, 71, husband of Patricia Almstrom Hornbeck, died Wednesday, October 30, 2002, in the Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia.

Born Dec. 15, 1930, he was the son of the late Ehrhardt and Anna Dorch Hornbeck. He was a U.S. Army veteran, and a retired mechanic.

Surviving besides his wife of Summerton are two daughters, Mary Hornbeck and Karen Bullock of Frankfort, Ky.; two sons, Michael Hornbeck and Arthur Hornbeck Jr. of Frankfort, Ky.; three brothers, Leo Hornbeck of Shelbyville, Ky., and Kenneth Hornbeck and Joseph Hornbeck, of Texas; two sisters, Linda Hornbeck of Frankfort, Ky. and Sara Manley of Baghdad, Ky.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Veterans Administration in Columbia.
