Thomas Cook

NORTH — Thomas Allen Cook, 81, of North, died Wednesday, December 8, 2004.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, December 10, 2004, at Highland Baptist Church with Rev. Hank Fanning and Rev. Ervin Green officiating. Burial will be in Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery. The casket will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Pallbearers will be Andy Williams, Bradley Williams, Joseph Reed, Larry Cook, Eddie Cook, Mark Peele and Kenny Peele.

Mr. Cook was born in Cope, SC, a son of the late John Bunyan and Wilhelmina Douglas Cook. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a retired farmer and a member of Highland Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Livingston Cook, of the home; a daughter, Barbara Cook Graham, of North; a son, Thomas Allen Cook Jr., of North; a sister, Virginia McClellan, of Louisville, KY; two brothers: W.L. Cook and James H. Cook, both of North; four grandchildren: Suzanne Reed, Kathryn Cook, Thomas Andrew Williams, and Bradley O’Neal Williams; and one great-granddaughter, Savannah Reed.

The family received friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home and other times at the home, 7017 North Road, North.

Memorials may be made to Highland Baptist Church.

Pearl Duncan

CORINTH, Miss. — Services for Pearl Holder Duncan, 94, homemaker, widow of Clary Duncan, will be 2 p.m. (visitation 1-2 p.m.) Saturday at Barron Funeral Home with burial in Evergreen Cemetery, both in Chester, S.C. Born in Whitmire, S.C., to John and Lyda Melton Holder, she died December 8, 2004. Surviving are daughter, Pamela King and husband, Gary; 3 grandchildren; sister, Sarah Holley.

Marion Boykin

CAMDEN — Funeral services for Marion Durant Boykin, 72, of Camden, will be Saturday, December 11, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel with burial to follow in Quaker Cemetery. Rev. Richard Cameron and Rev. Joe Stines will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 10, 2004, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kershaw County, 2001 W. DeKalb Street, Camden, SC 29020 or to Gideon International, P.O. Box 664, Lugoff, SC 29078.

Mr. Boykin died Wednesday, December 8, 2004. Born in Florence, April 24, 1932, he was the son of the late Thomas Osborne and Thelma Reynolds Boykin. He had retired from the DuPont Company after 40 plus years. Mr. Boykin was a graduate of Camden High School, Class of 1950, was a member of New Life Christian Outreach and a former SC National Guardsman. Mr. Boykin worked with the Kershaw County Recreation Department as coach, referee, and umpire from the time he was in high school (1949) until 2003, when his health forced him to quit. He supported the Bulldog Club with his presence at games, cooking for and feeding the football team. In 1959, he was the assistant coach for the Camden Pony League All-star Team which was the winner in the Southern Championship and semi finalist in the Pony League World Series. Mr. Boykin also received honors from the Optimist Club of Camden in 1959 for his work with boys in the community. In 1962 he received the Percy Mays Award for outstanding service to Camden Recreation Department, and in 1971, he coached his 500th game with the Camden Recreation Department.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy Fant Boykin; son and daughter-in-law, D. Craig and Kathryn Boykin of Leesville; daughter, Nancy Elizabeth “Beth” Boykin of Camden; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda Boykin and Shawn B. Tarte, of Camden; grandchildren, Reed Boykin, Sarah Boykin, Mitch Thompson, Meghan Thompson, Joshua Tarte, Abigail Tarte, Henry Boykin “Hank” Tarte; brother, T.O. Boykin and his wife, Zonelle of North Augusta; sister, Margaret B. Sowell, of Camden; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a niece, Dianne Sowell Beck.

Muriel Haynes

FAIRFAX — Services with burial for Muriel Haynes, 52, 1 p.m. Saturday at Greater Cherry Grove Christian Church D.O.C., Brunson. Wake service is 6-8 tonight at Riley’s Funeral Home, Hampton. Born to Asbeary and Pearl Haynes, she died Dec. 5, 2004. Surviving: children, Fredericka, Frederick, Christie and Christopher Haynes, Brieanna Smoak, foster son, Jovan Jackson; 2 brothers; 2 sisters; 21 grandchildren.

Grace Frederick

WAGENER — A Service to Honor and Celebrate the Life of Mrs. Grace Mize Frederick will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 11th at the Swansea First Baptist Church, 145 South Church St. Blizzard Funeral Home, 153 South Main St., Wagener (803)564-5333 is in charge of arrangements.

Archie Hinton Jr.

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Services for Archie Hinton Jr., 53, 2 p.m. Saturday at Gordon Street Church of God. Brown’s Funeral Home, Camden, S.C., is in charge. Born in Pittsfield, Mass. to Archie Hinton Sr. and Eva Jones, he died Nov. 11, 2004. Surviving: wife, Brenda T. Hinton; children, Brenden, Tiffany, Markus Hinton, Shanna Moody; mother, Eva Jones; siblings, Edward, Dexter Hinton, Patrice Smith; others.

Horace Horne Jr.

JONESVILLE — A graveside service for Horace Franklin “Jake” Horne Jr., 75, widower of Betty Foster Horne, is 2 p.m. Saturday in Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery; visitation 7-9 tonight at Holcombe Funeral Home, Jonesville. Born in Jonesville to Horace and Nanny Fowler Horne, he died Dec. 8, 2004. Surviving: son, Horace Horne; sisters, Katherine Proctor, Frances, Evelyn Fowler; 2 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren, 2 nephews.

Anthony Brown

LUGOFF — Services with burial for Anthony Jerome Brown, 43, will be 3 p.m. today at St. Matthew Baptist Church. Haile’s Funeral Home, Camden, is in charge. Born in Columbia to Jack and Josephine Bolar Brown, he died Dec. 5, 2004. Surviving: wife, Lillian Miles-Brown; son, Anthony Brown Jr.; stepdaughters, Ashton and Gertrude Miles; stepgrandson, Davion McClure; mother; 1 sister; 3 brothers; more.

William Jeffers

FLORENCE — William F. “Billy” Jeffers, 85, died Wednesday, December 8, 2004, in a local hospital after an illness.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 11, 2004, at Calvary Baptist Church, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

He was born in Florence, a son of the late Joseph Clyde and Carl Evelyn Turbeville Jeffers. He graduated from Florence High School in 1938, and had retired as Parks & Recreation Supervisor for the City of Florence.

He was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda McLeod English Jeffers of the home; two daughters, Jill (Gregory) Gibson of Columbia and Jan English Jeffers of Florence; a son, Jeff (Renee’) Jeffers of Florence; a granddaughter, Lindsey Gibson, and grandson, William Evan Jeffers; and two sisters-in-law, Margaret Jeffers and Jean Jeffers, both of Florence. He was predeceased by three brothers, Joseph C. Jeffers, III, John James Jeffers, and Charles E. Jeffers.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church “Challenge to Complete” Building Fund, 915 Cherokee Road, Florence, SC 29501.

Leon Cox

LORIS — Services for Leon James Cox, 96, retired tobacco farmer, are 2 p.m. Saturday (visitation 6-8 tonight) at Hardwick Funeral Home, burial in Carter cemetery. Born in Loris to Joseph and Mary Francis Cox, he died Dec. 8, 2004. Surviving: sister, Josie Springs; nephews, Robert, Jerry, J.E., Jimmy and Charles Cox; nieces, Joanne Cox, Bonnie Rabon, Mary Lou Wright, Janice Rodeffer, Rosa Lee James.

Zane Jackson

SUMTER — Services for Zane David Jackson, 89, widower of Pearl Jackson, 2 p.m. Saturday (visitation 6-8 tonight) at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home; burial in Sumter Cemetery. Born in Sumter to Zannie and Lorie Jackson, he died Dec. 9, 2004. Surviving: daughters, Jackie Hayford, Brenda Hull, Bonnie Viehman, Barbara Johnson, Pamela Moseley; 3 siblings; 20 grandchildren; 47 great, 23 great-great-grandchildren.

William Lloyd

CAMDEN — Funeral services for William C. Lloyd, 72, will be held on Friday, December 10, 2004, at 1:00 p.m. at Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel with burial to follow in Lancaster Memorial Park. Rev. Condy Richardson will officiate. Memorials may be made to Hermitage Baptist Church, 814 Jefferson Davis Hwy., Camden, SC 29020.

Mr. Lloyd died Wednesday, December 8, 2004. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late William Clifford and Eunice Marie Gardner Lloyd. He had retired from the DuPont Company and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Oveda Threatt Lloyd; children, Nolan Lloyd and his wife, Anne, of Camden, Denise Snow and her husband, Glenn, of Greer, and Barry Lloyd and his wife, Donna, of North; grandchildren, Brian Lloyd, Chris Snow, Brenna and Abry Lloyd; great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Lloyd; sister, Wilhelmina Ackerman of Lancaster. He was predeceased by a brother, Leon Lloyd.

Preston McMurray

BLACKSTOCK — Services for Preston Henry “Boots” McMurray, 65, 11 a.m. Saturday at Tabernacle Ministries, Great Falls, burial: Greenlawn Cemetery; visitation 6-8 tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home, Great Falls. Born in Fairfield Co., to Henry and Emily McMurray, he died Dec. 8, 2004. Surviving: wife, Erlene McMurray; children, Kenneth, Eugene, James McMurray, Cheryl Hopkins; 7 siblings; grandchildren.

Leroy McKenzie

LAKE CITY — Services for Deacon Leroy McKenzie, 89, widower of Cora Smith McKenzie, 11 a.m. Saturday at Believers Holiness Conference Center, Coward, burial in McKenzie/Brown Cemetery. Green’s Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Florence Co. to Handy and Francis McKenzie, he died Dec. 6, 2004. Surviving: children, David, Beronzy, Dr. Moses and Milbert McKenzie, Mary McFadden; 2 sisters; 2 grandchildren.
