Kenneth Lee Dick Sr.

Kenneth Lee “Kenny” Dick Sr., 50, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

Born February 4, 1954 in Stanley County, N.C., he was the son of Truett Ray Dick and the late Betty Marie Melton Dick. He was retired from Watkins Motor Lines as a dispatcher. He was a member and elder of Riverview Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Cindy Blackwelder Dick; his father, Truett Ray Dick of Manning; his son, Kenneth Lee “Kenley” (Jennifer) Dick Jr. of Elgin; his daughters, Jennifer Dick (David) Biggers and Joy Dick (Matt) Jarrett, of Rock Hill; his sisters, Diane Dick Carter of York and Sandi Dick Ruch of Fort Mill; and his two grandchildren, Makayla Ann Biggers and Matthew Cole Jarrett.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at Riverview Presbyterian Church. Dr. Barry Lambert and Dr. James McGill officiated the service.

Memorial may be made to the Kenneth Lee Dick Sr. Memorial Fund c/o Founders Federal Credit Union, 100 Springcrest Drive, Fort Mill, S.C. 29175.

Wolfe Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Annie Jane J. Blakley

Annie Jane Jeffords Blakley, age 73, of Ladson, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at a local hospital.

Mrs. Blakley was born on Nov. 22, 1930, in Hobokan, Ga., to the late Alvin T. Moore and the late Belle Cruz Moore. Mrs. Blakley worked in housekeeping for Roper Hospital. She was a member of Church of God the Prophecy in North Charleston. She taught Sunday school and was a leader of the church care group.

Survivors include her husband, Foster Blakley of Ladson; three sons, Richard Jeffords of Goose Creek, Paul Wayne Jeffords of Summerville and Jesse Laverne Jeffords of Sumter. Also included are 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four brothers, Melvin Moore of Colonial Heights, Va., Paul Moore of Turbeville, William Moore of Anderson and Robert Moore of Myrtle Beach; one sister, Dorothy Leon of North Charleston; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Jesse Jeffords, and a son, Larry Jeffords.

Funeral service were held on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, in Church of God the Prophecy in North Charleston.

Interment followed in Carolina Memorial Park.

Elizabeth Black

Elizabeth Black, 77, widow of Noah Black Sr., died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.

Born March 19, 1927, in Clarendon County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Rosa Conyers Richburg.

She attended the public schools of Clarendon “County. She joined Gum Spring Baptist Church at an early age.

Survivors include four sons, Noah (Celestine) Black Jr., Joseph Black, of Summerton; Sammuel Black of Columbia and Harris (Mary) Black of Wilmington, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Della Mae Black, and a son, Truman Black.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at Gum Spring Baptist Church with the Rev. O.J. Hannah, pastor, officiating.

Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery.

King Funeral Home of Summerton was in charge of the arrangements.

Ronald John Campbell Sr.

Ronald (Ron) John Campbell Sr., 69, husband of Elizabeth (Betty) Tucker Campbell, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Hospital in Sumter.

Born in Aruba, West Indies, he was the son of the late Lee Campbell and Catherine Gibson Campbell.

Mr. Campbell was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was a member of the Sumter Masonic Lodge #364 A.F.M. He was a former pavement engineer at Shaw Air Force Base after 30 years of service and was currently the owner and operator of Campbell Paving Specialties, Inc. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Survivors, besides his wife of Sumter, includes one son, Ronald John (Johnny) (Pam) Campbell Jr. of Sumter; one daughter, Donna Campbell (William) Prothro of Manning; one brother, Lee Campbell of Baton Rouge, La.; one sister Sara Simpkins of Ontario, Canada; five grandchildren, William Stroman (Stro) Prothro, Evan Campbell Prothro, McKenzie Marshall Prothro, John Lee Campbell and Caroline Sanchez Campbell.

Graveside services were held on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Dr. Stephen Taylor officiated the service.

Pallbearers included Doug Hammond, Chuck Stokes, Ben Abbott, Robert Rumph, Al Hubbard and Freddy Edmunds.

Memorial may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Myrtle V. Bridges

Myrtle V. Bridges, 90, widow of Owen Murray Bridges, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, in Mariner West in Sumter.

Born March 7, 1913, in Mecklenburg, Va., she was a daughter of the late George Thomas Inscoe and the late Alice Rebecca Fitts Inscoe. She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca B. (Joseph Brad) Sherman of Sumter; a sister, Pattie Yancey of Oxford, N.C.; two brothers, Abner Inscoe of Stoney Point, N.C. and Willie Inscoe of Statesville, N.C.; a granddaughter, Dana (Stephen) William of Sumter; two great grandchildren, Daniel Owen Williams and Darin Rhett Williams.

Graveside services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 4, in Clarendon Memorial Gardens in Manning. The Rev. Dr. Paul Sullivan officiated the service.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.

Stephens Funeral Home of Manning was in charge of the arrangements.

Geraldine Boltin

Geraldine Boltin, 81, of 3963 Princess Pond Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Ms. Boltin was born Feb. 10, 1922, in Elloree. She was the daughter of the late Hampton Snell and the late Frances Dannelly Snell. She was the widow of Otto Boltin.

She was retired from COVEC in Orangeburg. She was a former employee of the Social Security Office.

Survivors include three daughters, Roxanne Cardona of Akron, Ohio, Sandy (Claude) Gunnells of Cope, and Gay Lynette Harris of Summerton; six sisters, Primrose Smoak of Walterboro, Evelyn Hood of Vance, Pauline Jones of Brunswick, Ga., Helen Snell of Roy, Utah, Margie Judy of Neeses, Norma Collins of Monks Corner; one brother, H.J. Snell of Anderson; six grandchildren; eight grandchildren; and a special friend, William Edward Smoak of Holly Hill.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, J.T. Snell and Boyd Snell; and a sister, Elizabeth Judy.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Nov. 1, at Lake Marion Baptist Church in Summerton. The Rev. Larry Kennedy officiated the service. Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery in Orangeburg.

Memorials can be made to Lake Marion Baptist Church in Summerton or to Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1178, Greenwood, S.C. 29648.

Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Orangeburg was in charge of the arrangements.

John A. Benway Jr.

John A. Benway Jr., 68, husband of Fran Benway, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, at MUSC in Charleston.

He was owner and operator of Ma & Pa’s Bargain Barn in Manning and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors, besides his wife of Manning, include four daughters, three stepdaughters and 29 grandchildren.

No funeral services were held.

Ruby C. Baker

Ruby Cantey Baker, 86, widow of Joseph Fletcher Baker, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Born April 20, 1917, in New Zion, she was the daughter of the late David Christopher Cantey and the late Janie Baker Cantey. She was a member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Joanne Baker Thompson of Kingstree, Jeri (Leroy) Phillips of Manning and Angie (James III) Bland of Mayesville; a son, Dr. Fletcher Keels (Laura) Baker of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Ruth C. Johnson of Manning; nine grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 4, in Mount Vernon United Methodist Church near Kingstree. The Revs. Gary Adams, Dr. Paul Sullivan, and Joseph A. Poston officiated the service. Entombment will follow in the Mount Vernon U.M.C. Cemetery.

Pallbearers included Bo Phillips, Shawn Phillips, Ki Thompson, Chris Thompson, Jay Bland, Steve Lowman, Michael Lane and Robbie Thompson.

Memorial may be made to Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Tommy Dukes, 2340 Manning Hwy., Greeleyville, S.C. 29056 or to a charity of one’s choice.

Pauline P. Lamb

Pauline Pate Lamb, widow of Jessie Lamb, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at a local nursing center.

Born in Florence County, she was the daughter of the late Martin Pate and the late Emily Rogers Pate. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Survivors include two sons, Cecil (Sharon) Lamb of Sumter and Charles (Evelyn) Lamb of Manning; three grandchildren, Cindy Richardson of Manning, Christopher Lamb of Camden and Dee Lamb of Manning; three great-grandchildren, Danielle Richardson, Nolan Lamb and Morgan Hedge; and a sister, Evelyn Hayes of Texas.

She was preceded in death by a son, Levon Lamb.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, in the chapel of Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home with Ken Mooneyham officiating.

Burial was in the Shiloh Cemetery in Coward.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, 61 Broadway, New York, N.Y. 10006 or to a charity of one’s choice.

Thomas J. Bochette

Thomas J. Bochette, 64, husband of Ruby Tobias Bochette, died Wed., Oct. 22, 2003, in Tuomey Regional Hospital.

Born July 15, 1939, in Manning, he was the son of the late Frank J. and Sulia Elizabeth Long Bochette. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors, besides his wife of Sumter, include four brothers, Eugene (Darlene) Bochette of Sumter, J.C. (Colleen) Bochette of Manning, Joe (Charlene) Bochette and Eddie Bochette of Leesville, Ga.; three sisters, Viola Gibson of Sumter, Mary Ann Wilson of Leesville, Ga., and Sue (Gene) Brown of Brunswick, Ga.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Hattie Bochette and Nonie Morris; and a brother, Frank J. Bochette Jr.

Funeral services were held on Sat., Oct. 25th in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home. The Rev. Miriam Hadden officiated the service. Burial followed in Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery in Alcolu.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
