Louise W. Coker

Louise W. Coker, 81, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2003, at her home, after an illness.

Born in Richland County, she was the daughter of the late Janie Olivia Welch. She was retired from Elkay Industries as a seamstress, a member of Turbeville Southern Methodist Church, The Miriam Morris Sunday School Class, and the Marion Gamble Circle.

She was preceded in death by three husbands, Ervin L. Watts, Horace Coker and Heyward Coker Sr.; a son, Charles Watts; a daughter, Doris W. Markle; and a brother, J.W. Welch.

Survivors include daughters, Nell Harrington of Kingstree, Vivian Thigpen of Lake City, Nancy Mangrum of Manning and Irene Hardy of Turbeville; sons, Ralph Watts, Lavern Watts and Francis Watts, all of Turbeville, Heyward Coker Jr. of Columbia and Ray Floyd of Dobson, N.C.; a sister, Mary Williams of Wedgefield; a brother, Robert Odom of Sumter; 25 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Mrs. Inez Green of Turbeville.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003 at Turbeville Southern Methodist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society.

Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta was in charge of the arrangements.

Lucille R. Cooper

Lucille R. Cooper, 80, widow of Jeremiah Cooper, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born April 28, 1922, in Sumter, she was the daughter of the late Elie and Adelaide Ricks. She received her formal education in the Goodwill Parochial School. At an early age, she joined Goodwill Presbyterian Church, where she remained a faithful member until her health failed. She served in the following capacities: a member of the Sunday school class, Presbyterian Women Organization, senior choir, Inspirational Choir, Sanctuary Choir, Faith Circle and as an ordained deacon. She worked outside of the home for a short period of time but most of her life was spent in the home as a devoted wife and caring mother.

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Cooper, of the home, and Dianne Cooper of Capital Heights, Md.; one brother, Ray Prince of Washington, D.C.; seven grandchildren, Detondra, Devin, Jermaal, Marsha, Michele, Sharon and Ralph Jr.; five great-grandchildren; three loving and devoted nieces, Maranda Sparks, Glendora Benjamin and Mary Burts; one daughter-in-law, Shirley McClinton of Turbeville; one devoted friend, Ida Broughton; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by two sons; Ralph and Roy McClinton; three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Nov. 22, 203, at Goodwill Presbyterian Church, USA. The Rev. Richard R. Baxter, pastor, officiated the service. Burial followed in Goodwill Cemetery.

Job’s Mortuary Inc. of Sumter was in charge of arrangements.

Theron Forrest Parisoe

Theron Forrest Parisoe, 94, widower of Lucille Kisthardt Parisoe, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Charles Warren and Josephine Johnston Parisoe. He was retired owner and operator of auto repair shops in Ohio and Florida, a member of Summerton Baptist Church, and served for thirteen years on the Board of Deacons at Gospel Tabernacle on Lakeshore Drive in Leesburg, Fla. and was a member of the Mayflower Society.

Survivors include two daughter, Janine Woodard of Leesburg, Fla. and Marjorie Baxley of Ocala, Fla.; three sons, Leon Parisoe of Raleigh, David Gerald Parisoe of Groveland, Fla. and Russell G. Parisoe of Leesburg, Fla.; fourteen grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 28 at Summerton Baptist Church. The Revs. Rob Pierce and Carolyn Malphrus officiated the service.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Midstate S.C. Chapter, P.O. Box 7044, Columbia, SC 29202-7044.

Camarion E. Stillwell

FLORENCE – Infant Camarion Emanuel Stillwell, grandson of the late Jim Brayboy, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at McLeod Women’s Pavilion, Florence.

Born Nov. 15, 2003, at McLeod Women’s Pavilion, Florence, he was the son of Carl L. Stillwell Jr. and Shonstella Brayboy Stillwell.

Survivors, besides his parents of the home in Turbeville, include maternal grandparents, Elder Don Lowery and Betty Brayboy Lowery of Turbeville; and paternal grandparents, Carl L. Stillwell Sr. and Barbara Miller Stillwell of Jackson, Ga.

Graveside services were held on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003 at House of Prayer Memorial Garden, in Lynchburg. Elder Robert Rabb officiated the service.

Clara Bell P. Gamble

Clara Bell Pearson Gamble, 60, wife of Centry Gamble Sr., died Oct. 25, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.

Born Oct. 21, 1944, in the Davis Crossroads section of Summerton, she was a daughter of the late Willis Pearson and Sarah Harvin Pearson James and stepdaughter of Bennie James. She began her education at Resseville Elementary School and, after relocating to Bridgeport, Conn., she attended Central High School. In her youth, she joined Mt. Ivery Baptist Church, where she accepted Christ as her personal savior. After marrying, she joined Friendship Presbyterian Church (USA), where she was active until her health failed. She was a member of the usher board, deaconess board, trustee board, Presbyterian Women, adult choir and St. Mary Chapter 156 Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors besides her husband, Centry Gamble of the home, include two sons, Centry (Donna) Gamble Jr. of Shelton, Conn., and Eric (Cheryl) Gamble of Taylor; three stepsons, Centry J. Samuel and Terry (Janice) Baker, both of Manning, and Irwin Baker of Bridgeport, Conn.; one daughter, Lorraine (James) of New Zion and Michelle Mattocks of Brooklyn, N.Y.; stepdaughter; one sister, Madison Lee Williams of Bridgeport, Conn.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry Pearson and Truman Jimmie James.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at Friendship Presbyterian Church (USA) in New Zion, with the Rev. Stanley Jones I, pastor, officiating, assisted the Revs. Herbert Shackleford, Carnell Hampton, Jerome McCray, Rufus Gaymon and the Rev. Dr. Franklin Colclough.

Burial was in the churchyard cemetery.

Dianne P. Sinkler

PINEWOOD — Mrs. Dianne Parker Sinkler, 46, died Sept. 22, 2003, at the home of her mother, 15841 Panola Road, Pinewood.

Born July 20, 1957, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of Mrs. Carrie B. Parker and the late Mr. Williams Parker Sr. and the wife of James Thomas Sinkler. Mrs. Sinkler received her early education at Manchester and Furman High School and graduated from Scott’s Branch High School with the Class of 1976. During her youth, Mrs. Sinkler accepted Christ as her savior and joined Antioch Reformed Methodist Union Episcopal Church. She was a member of the junior usher board. She served her church faithfully until her death. She was employed at Federal Mogul Corp. for 24 years until her health failed.

Survivors besides her mother and husband include three sons, Mr. Corey O. Sinkler, Mr. Travis T. Sinkler and Mr. Jamie T. Sinkler of the home; three brothers, Mr. Williams Parker and wife, Tracey, Mr. Earnest Parker and wife, Debbie, both of Atlanta, and Mr. Craig S. Parker of Albany, N.Y.; two sisters, Mrs. Joyce P. Green and husband, Johnnie Green, of Pinewood and Mrs. Terry Stith and husband, John, of Hopewell, Va.; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Inez Parker of Pinewood; one granddaughter, Coleisha Sinkler of Pinewood. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mr. William and Susanna Benjamin and Mr. Edward Parker and Anna Spann.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at Antioch RMUE Church in Rimini with the Rev. William Polite, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Powell Hampton Jr., the Rev. Amos Hatcher, the Rev. Warren Hatcher, the Rev. Roosevelt Boyd and Minister Robert James Jr. Burial followed in New Hope Cemetery.

Community Funeral Home was in charge of these arrangements.

Girley H. York

Girley Hilton York, 84, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital. Born July 30, 1919, in the Bloomville Community of Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Elliott Hilton and Mattie Harrison Hilton.

She was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. In her youth, she attended Sunday school and worship services at Mount Sinai FBH Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Jodell Prince of Manning and Lottie Mack of Thomasville, N.C.; a brother, Leon “Shack” Hilton Sr. of Manning; three grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Eddie James York; a brother, James Hilton; five sisters, Daisy Graham, Elizabeth Sheriff, Inez Vereen, Nora Hilton and Rosa Hilton.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday at Hayes F. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 N. Church St. in Manning with the Rev. O’Donald Dingle officiating, assisted by Dr. Cokley Richburg, the Rev. Sylvester Hicks, evangelists Elizabeth Richburg and Rebecca York. Burial was in Scarborough Cemetery on Brewer Road in Manning.

Willie Harrison

Willie Harrison, 54, died Fri., Sept. 26, 2003, at the home of his sister. Born Dec. 13, 1948, in the New Zion area of Clarendon County, he was a son of the late James Harrison Jr. and Hinethia McCray Harrison. He received his education in the public schools of Clarendon County. He moved to New York City, where he joined Second Southern Baptist Church in New York City. After moving back home, he rejoined Howard Chapel AME Church.

Survivors include one son, Dennis Harrison of Jersey City, N.J.; three uncles, Joe (Andretta) Harrison of Foreston, Linard (Sheila) Harrison of Baltimore and Samuel (Charlene) Harrison of Baltimore; two daughters, Sharon Bryant of Wilmington, N.C. and Hinetha Harrison of Winston-Salem, N.C.; three aunts, Sadie Brown of New Zion, Mary Jane Green of Baltimore, and Sarah Jane Jackson of South Carolina; two brothers, James Edward (Ruth) Harrison of Baltimore and Theodore Harrison of Boston; two sisters, Ida Jane Scott and Dorothy Harrison of Alcolu; and one stepsister, Lillie Jean Pressley of North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Celestine Nelson and Deloris Harrison.

Funeral services were held on Thurs., Oct. 2nd at Howard Chapel AME Church, Old Manning Road, New Zion, The Rev. Edward Roberts, pastor, officiated, assisted by the Rev. Jerome McCray and Minister Legatha McFadden. Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery.

Annette Frierson

Annette Frierson, 37, died Sun., Sept. 28, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Hospital in Sumter.

Born May 21, 1966, in Bronx, N.Y., she was the daughter of William Frierson Sr. and the late Hazel Richburg Frierson. She received her formal education and graduated in 1985 from Adlai Stevenson High School in Bronx, N.Y. At an early age, she was baptized at Prayer Temple Church in Bronx, N.Y. There she sang on the youth choir. After moving to Sumter, she attended Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church until her health failed.

Survivors include her father, William Frierson Sr. of the home; mother-in-law, Edris Hunter of Richmond, Va.; one daughter, Amanda E. Frierson of the home; one nephew, Ty’Darian Frierson of Sumter; two brothers, Dewayne E. Frierson and William C. Frierson Jr., of the home; two devoted friends, Virginia Carter and Angel Myers of Sumter.

Services were held at on Sat., Oct. 4th at Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. W.T. Johnson, pastor, officiated the service, assisted by the Revs. Julius Johnson, George W. Johnson Jr., and Evangelist Betty Johnson. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Jeanette B. Hardy

ST. STEPHENS — Jeanette Barnes Hardy, 73, widow of Hugh Don Hardy, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, in St. Stephens.

Born Oct. 7, 1930, in Manning, she was a daughter of the late David Dinkins Barnes and the late Katherine Tucker Barnes. She was a retired private duty nurse’s aide and a member of Liberty Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Hugh Don (Harriet) Hardy Jr., of St. Stephens and Bruce (Rocky) Hardy of Latta; two daughters, Terri (Richard) Evans of Manning and Gayle (Eddie) Gwaltney of Morganton, N.C.; a brother, Clyde Barnes of Fuquay Varina, N.C.; two sisters, Dora Lee Ardis of Wedgefield and Ada Hodge of Ninety-Six; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gwen Mahoney; a sister, Mae Thames; and two brothers, Bennie and Arthur Barnes.

A graveside memorial service was held on Sat., Oct. 4th at the New Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery. The Rev. I. Bennie Turner officiated the service.

Memorials may be made to Liberty Freewill Baptist Church, 2761 Liberty Church Road, Manning, SC 29102.

Anna Hodge

Anna Maria Kemetinger Pack Hodge, 74, first married to the late Cecil Pack and then to the late Joe Willie Hodge III, died Wed., Oct. 1, 2003, in Tuomey Regional Hospital in Sumter.

Born Oct. 30, 1928, in Salzburg, Austria, she was a daughter of the late Rudolf Winklhofer and the late Anna Kemetinger. She was a retired merchant at Potato Creek and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include are two sons, Arthur Pack and Tyrone Hodge of Manning; a sister, Margiot Morris of Manning; a brother, Rudolf Winklhofer of Salzburg, Austria; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Cecil Pack Jr. and Herbie G. Pack.

Funeral services were held on Sat., Oct. 4th in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning. The Revs. Kevin Cribb and Jerry Neal Hodge officiated the service. Burial followed in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.
