Rev. Isadore Lee

The Rev. Isadore “Sonny” Lee, 75, died Thursday, April 24, 2008, after an illness.

Born in Dillon County, he was a son of the late Robert Edward Lee Jr. and Mary Louise Johnson Lee. The Rev. Lee was a retired Baptist minister, having served at Union Baptist Church in Marion and First Baptist Church in Turbeville, of which he was a member. He received a diploma of pastoral ministries from Southeastern Seminary and was a member of Turbeville Ministerial Association. He was awarded pastor emeritus on June 30, 2001, and received the Smyrna Award from Turbeville First Baptist Church. He was a member of the Lions Club. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann White Lee, and two brothers, Vondell Lee and R.M. Lee.

Surviving are a daughter, Wendy L. (Kenny) Yates of Turbeville; a son, Jeffrey D. Lee of Florence; two sisters, Jean Lee of Latta and Mildred Johnson of Dillon; and three grandchildren, Carson Elizabeth Lee, David Michael Lee and Kenneth Coleman Yates.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, April 27, 2008, at Turbeville First Baptist Church.

Interment was at Magnolia Cemetery in Latta.

Memorials may be made to Turbeville First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 177, Turbeville, S.C. 29162.

The Lee family would like to give special thanks to Winyah Hospice (Adaire, Karen, Rebecca and Tracie), and to Dr. Kate Smith and Dr. Dorn Smith for their many years of loving care.

Alma Grace F. Landry

Alma Grace Fox Landry, 65, wife of Edward A. Landry Sr., died Thursday, April 24, 2008, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Syracuse, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Bert Fox and the late Ernestine Peckham Fox. Mrs. Landry was a bus driver for the East Syracuse school system for 15 years.

Survivors include her husband of Manning; four children, Kelly Bitonio of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, Christine Patneaude of Bradenton, Fla., Kathy Rose of York and Edward A. Landry Jr. of Kirkville, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, Lekel and Jack; and brothers and sisters, Beverly Theford, George Fox, Yvonne Crossman and William Fox.

Memorial services were held on Sunday, April 27, 2008, at the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel in Sumter, with the Rev. Billy Lewis officiating.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, S.C. 29210.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter was in charge of the arrangements.

James I. Harvin Jr.

James Israel Harvin Jr., 70, died Sunday, April 20, 2008, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.

Born March 10, 1937, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late James Israel Harvin Sr. and Evelyn Lydia Doughty Harvin. James was a graduate of Harren High School in New York City and majored in airplane mechanics. He trained in aircraft mechanics at Teterboro School of Aeronautics and retired from American Airlines, where he worked as an airplane jet engine mechanic. He was a member of MW King Solomon Grand Lodge, Thessalonia Lodge No. 68 in New York. “Jr.,” as he was affectionately called, was an active member of Elisabeth Baptist Church in Manning.

Those left to cherish his memory and grow from his love are a son, Levi Harvin of Laurel, Md.; two stepdaughters, Addriane Harris and Sidney Crawford of Charleston; a stepson, Nathaniel Crawford of Charleston; three sisters, Martha Harvin Horseford, Bernice Harvin Hayes and Evelyn L. Harvin; three brothers, Dennis A. Harvin, Thomas J. Harvin and Salem Harvin; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five uncles, Arthur Harvin of New York, N.Y., Willie Harvin of Trenton, N.J., Easley, Willliam and Moses Harvin, all of Sumter; seven aunts, Sadie, Shirley, Geneva, Arleatha, Odell, Betty Lue and Gardenia Harvin, all of Sumter; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 25, 2008, at Elisabeth Baptist Church in Manning with the Rev. Ashley B. Vaughn, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Summerton Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.

Dayle T. Goodman

Dayle T. Goodman, 57, died Thursday, April 17, 2008, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born June 17, 1958, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Eva Bell Goodman. He received his formal education at Walker Gamble High School. In his youth, he joined Asbury United Methodist Church.

Survivors are two sisters, Gaile Goodman of Turbeville and Lottie Quattlebaum of Sumter; a brother, Freddie (Alberta) Goodman of Lake City; and two aunts, Mary English and Mable (Ben) English, both of Lynchburg.

A brother, Elister Lee Sr., preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at Asbury United Methodist Church, Lynchburg, with the Rev. Samuel Cooper, pastor, officiating.

Burial followed in the Goodman Cemetery, Lynchburg.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of the arrangements.

Jimmy L. Timmons

Jimmy Lee Timmons, 52, husband of Nona Gail Parker Timmons, died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.

Born Aug. 1, 1950, in Manning, he was the son of the late Jasper Lee and Zola Thigpen Timmons. He was a corrections officer at Turbeville Correctional Institution in Turbeville, a U.S. Navy veteran, and a member of Second Baptist Church in Manning.

Survivors besides his wife of Manning include two daughters, Deanna McElveen and husband, Lloyd, and Kristie Welch and husband, Chuck, of Turbeville; a sister, Sarah Lee Richburg and husband, Paul, of Manning; and three grandchildren, Rian McElveen, Staley McElveen and Chandler Morris.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Brewington Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Rev. Esta G. Gilley officiating.

Pallbearers were Danny Parker, Curt Richburg, Paul Richburg, Lloyd McElveen, Justin Woodard and Lee Pack.

Memorials may be made to Free Will Baptist Home for Children, P.O. Box 229, Turbeville, S.C. 29162.

Blanche C. Robinson

Blanche Czapkowski Robinson, 99, widow of Edward Robinson, died Sunday, April 27, 2003, at Lake Marion Nursing Facility in Summerton.

Born Sept.. 3, 1903, in Barnes Barre, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Martin Czapkowski and the late Carolina Cislo Czapkowski. She was a retired caregiver, a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in South River, N.J., and formerly worked for Squibb Pharmaceutical.

Survivors include two sisters, Helen Ciesiclski of East Brunswick, N.J., and Marie Miller of New Hampshire; two grandchildren, William Harrison and Blanche Harrison Brown; and three great-grandchildren, Alexandra Brown, Taylor Harrison and Lindsey Brown.

Services were held at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in East Brunswick, N.J.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Lee E. Rivers Sr.

Lee Earnest Rivers Sr., 72, died Thursday, April 24, 2003, at the Wilson Nursing Facility in Darlington.

Born on March 25, 1931, in Jordan section of Clarendon County, he was the son of the late Abraham Rivers and Ada Cain Rivers. He was a graduate of Manning Training School. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Union Cypree A.M.E. Church where he served diligently as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent and a trustee of the church. He served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge #99. He was a retired employee of Freeman Millwork, Inc. and a longtime and faithful employee of Samuels Funeral Home since 1953 and worked until his health failed.

Survivors include his wife, Hattie Pearson Rivers; two sons Lee Earnest Rivers Jr. and Lee Ardis (Georgette) Rivers of Columbia; a daughter, Veronica (Michael) Key of Columbia; two brothers, Wilkie “Smitty” Rivers and George Rivers of Philadelphia; two grandchildren; and three dear friends, Judge Hatfield, John Allen Stukes and Hayes F. Samuels Jr.

He was preceded in death by his sister Mildred Carter and his brother Clayton Rivers.

Services were held at 4 p.m. Monday at Union Cypress A.M. E. Church, Jordan community of Manning, with the Rev. Melissa W. Green, pastor officiating, assisting the Revs. Jack Deas, Jerome McCray, O’Donald Dingle and Minister Rosa Fulton, the Rev. John Frederick presiding.

Burial followed in the church yard cemetery.

Pallbearers were the members of the Brotherly Love Lodge #49.

Honorary pallbearers were the staff of Samuels Funeral Home.

Honorary bearers were the members of the New Light Chapter #254, Order of the Eastern Star.

Mattie T. Evans

Mattie Corine Harrison Taylor Evans, 99, died Sunday, April 20, 2003, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Born April 15, 1904, in the Alcolu section of Clarendon County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Harrison and Mary Vertell Tomlin Harrison. She was first married to Edgar Taylor and second to Linwood Evans Sr. She received her formal education in the Harmony Parochial School in Alcolu. She was a lifelong member of Mount Nebo Missionary Baptist Church in Alcolu where she served on the senior choir, usher board and missionary society until her health failed.

Survivors include a son, Joe Lewis (Ida) Evans of Jamaica, N.Y.; three daughters, Shirley T. (Deacon Hazel) Evins and Celestine Myers, of Alcolu, and Irene (Ernest) Gamble of Sumter; two god-daughters, Gladys Wells of Sumter and Lillie McFadden of Norwalk, Conn.; a brother, Robert (Mary) Harrison of Hamden, Conn.; a sister, Louise (Willie) Singleton of Sumter; a sister-in-law, Mildred R. Harrison Jiniwright of Sumter; 32 grandchildren; and a host of great-grands and great-great-grands.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Linwood Evans Jr. and Haley Evans.

Services were held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Mount Nebo Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Brock, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Revs. Albertus Smiling and Jonathan Anderson.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Bruce W. Eaddy

Lexington - Bruce Wayne Eaddy, 47, died Friday, April 25, 2003.

Born June 30, 1955, in Manning, he was the son of Rudelle Richburg Eaddy and the late Heston A. Eaddy. He was president of AML Specialties Corporation. He was an active member of Shiloh United Methodist Church where he had served on the Building Committee, Pastor Parish Relations, as a Sunday school teacher, and chaired the Administrative Council and the Board of Trustees. He was formerly associated with Grant Contracting and Boykin Contracting where he was a project manager and was a project engineer at Allied/Signal for 20 years. He was awarded several patents for fiber producing machinery. He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman and was a member of B&E Hunt Club, the National Rifle Association, and the Edisto River Rats for 20 years. He was a graduate of Airport High School and Midlands Technical College.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice Sanders Eaddy; two daughters, Mary Alice Eaddy and C. Lauren Eaddy of Lexington; one brother, Aaron Eaddy of West Columbia; two sisters, Mirian Williams of Leesville and Sonya Moss of Lexington; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services were held Monday at 3 p.m. at Westside Baptist Church in West Columbia with the Revs. Allen Wolfe and John McKeown officiating. Burial followed at Shiloh United Methodist Church, Gilbert.

Memorials may be made to Shiloh United Methodist Church, Gilbert or to PRO-Parents of S.C., 652 Bush River Road, Suite 218, Columbia, S.C. 29210.

Vaughn T. Cutter

Vaughn Theodore Cutter, 76, husband of Marjorie Thames Cutter, died Friday, April 25, 2003, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 30, 1926, in Manning, he was the son of the late Lewis Walter and Minnie Edith Ridgeway Cutter. He was retired supervisor of Smith’s American in Santee, a WWII U.S. Army veteran, a former firefighter with the City of Manning, and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors besides his wife of Manning include a daughter, Pam Price and husband, Tot, of Manning; two grandsons, Chris Price and Doug Chappell; a brother, Harold Cutter of Colonial Heights, Va.; and a sister, Ottis Caldwell of Pascagoula, Miss.

Services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday in Oak Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Jessie Brock officiating.

Memorials may be made to Free Will Baptist Home for Children, P.O. Box 229, Turbeville, S.C. 29162.

Mary L. Clark

Sumter - Mary Alice Lemon Clark, 47, wife of the Rev. Harry Clark, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at her home, 8 Cecil St.

Born Nov. 4, 1955, in Clarendon County, she was the daughter of Mary Ann Lemon and the late Howard Holliday. She received her formal education in Clarendon County and graduated from Manning High School in 1974. She attended Allen University in Columbia and was employed by Yanagawa Corp.

Survivors besides her husband include two sons, Rodney Lemon and Randolph Lemon of Manning; a stepson, Marcus Clark of Fort Stewart, Ga.; two stepdaughters, Theresa D. Clark of Watervaliet, N.Y., and Stephanie Clark of the home; four brothers, James Lemon of Willingboro, N.J., Howard Holliday Jr. and Bishop Raymond Holliday of Manning and Julian Holliday of New York; two sisters, Dorothy Graham of Boston and Rosa Ann Canty of New York; a mother-in-law, Essie Clark of Sumter; and a second mother, Lucille Henry.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark Baptist Church in Mansville, with the Rev. Willie Wright Jr. officiating, assisted by the Revs. Ashley Vaughn, Harry Clark, James Robinson and Eugene Thomas, Bishop Raymond Holliday, and Minister Ethel Lemon.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were her cousins.

Floral bearers were the members of Manning High School Class of 1974 and her co-workers.
