Pauline Carter

RIDGEWAY — Funeral services for Pauline Mincey Carter will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, December 16, 2004, at the Aimwell Presbyterian Church in Ridgeway, S.C., conducted by Rev. Jim Thorpe. Burial will follow in the Aimwell Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Pope Funeral Home in Winnsboro.

Mrs. Carter, 91, died Monday, December 12, 2004. Born in Bullock County, GA, May 19, 1913, she was the daughter of the late James A. and Ophelia Green Mincey.

She had retired from UniRoyal, Inc., and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are sons, Mitchell (Miriam) Carter of Effingham, S.C., Steve (Shirley) Carter of New Orleans, LA, Lamonte (Vonda) Carter of Leesville, S.C., and Stanley (Doris) Carter of Ridgeway; one daughter, Mary C. (Jimmy) Mattox of Ridgeway; a brother, Horace Mincey of Georgetown; two sisters, Nora Reemes of Augusta, GA, and Audine Powell of Athens, GA. Also 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Pope Funeral Home, Winnsboro, is in charge of arrangements.

Agnes Dennis

CAMDEN — Funeral services for Agnes Sanders Dennis, 90, will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 2004, at 4:00 p.m. at Wateree Baptist Church with burial to follow in Hermitage Baptist Church. Rev. Everett Reconnu will officiate. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 14, 2004, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kershaw Co., 2001 W. DeKalb St., Camden, SC 29020.

Mrs. Dennis died Monday, December 13, 2004. Born in Camden, she was the daughter of the late Hamp and Sally West Sanders. Mrs. Dennis had retired from Kendall Mills, Wateree Plant and was a member of Wateree Baptist Church.

Mrs. Dennis was first married to the late Roy Gardner and was the widow of Willie Dennis. Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Ruby G. Tollison and Earl of Camden, son and daughter-in-law, William D. “Jim” Gardner and Alice of Camden, stepdaughters, Crady Moree of Jefferson, and Betty McDonald of Greenville, sister, Juanita Outlaw of Durham, NC, grandchildren, Pam Clyburn, Randy Tollison, David Tollison, Troy Gardner, and Trynn Gardner, 7 stepgrandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a stepson, Lewis Gardner.

Garnet Jenkins Jr.

COLUMBIA — A Going Home Memorial service for Garnet Charles Jenkins, Jr., 60, of Columbia, will be held 3 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, December 15, 2004, at Northeast Wesleyan Church, 192 Sloan Road, officiated by Reverend Robert Wilson. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Shives Funeral Home is in charge.

Mr. Jenkins died Sunday, December 12, 2004. Born in Pineville, NC, he was a son of the late Garnet Charles and Mary Reeves Jenkins. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Jenkins was an electrician with Tri City Heating and Air Conditioning for over 30 years. His home church was Northeast Wesleyan Church. Mr. Jenkins was an avid bowler who participated in the St. John Neuman Bowling League for many years. He also enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Eleanor Palmer Jenkins; sons, Capt. Joseph Christopher Jenkins and wife, Mia Jattuso of Lancaster, CA., and Michael Louis Jenkins of Columbia; daughters, Christine Paige Barnes and husband, Mark of Blythewood and Marie Suzanne Kinard and husband, Steve of Elgin; grandchildren, April and Will Barnes; sisters, Sandra Brown and husband, Mack of Columbia, Carolyn Smith and husband, Art of Pensacola, FL and Marilyn Brown and husband, Algie of Sandersville, GA; brother, Ronald Jenkins of Falling Waters, WV as well as many nieces and nephews.

Yancey Cureton

COLUMBIA — Mr. Yancey Warren Cureton, a native of Greenville, SC, resided in Columbia, SC, and passed away at the Dorn VA Hospital on December 8, 2004. He was a son of Mrs. Inez Cureton and the late Yancey Warren Cureton, Sr.

Mr. Cureton was a graduate of Sterling High School and a graduate of Greenville Technical College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a former Greenville Police Officer.

Mr. Cureton is survived by his mother, Mrs. Inez Cureton; wife, Mrs. Shelby Cureton; daughter, Mrs. Yolanda (Tommy) Dodd of Columbia, SC; son, Yancey Christopher Cureton of Greenville, SC; three grandchildren, Thomas Austin Dodd and Patrick Sheldon, both of Columbia, SC, and Kaylah Christina Starks of Greenville, SC; three sisters, Mrs. Frances (George) Jamison, Mrs. Patricia (Jerry) Patterson and Miss Annie Rose Cureton, all of Greenville, SC; two brothers, Rev. Leroy (Shirley) Cureton and Mr. Malven (Linda) Cureton, both of Greenville, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews and many cousins and friends.

Funeral service: Tuesday, 2:00 PM at Watkins, Garrett & Woods Mortuary with burial in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

The family is at 39 Burdett Street.

Charles Duke

ELGIN — Services for Charles Laurin “Chuckie” Duke, will be held 11:00 a.m. today at Pisgah Church (viewing at 10:30 a.m.) with burial at 2:00 p.m. in the Kingstree Memorial Gardens, Kingstree, SC. Palmer Memorial Chapel, Columbia, is in charge of these arrangements.

Mr. Duke passed on Saturday, December 12, 2004. Born in Manning, SC, he was the son of Rhunette Haywood and the late B. Laurin Duke.

Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Henry Haywood of Elgin, SC; sister, Kathryn (Jon) Weisbaum of Champaign, IL; half brother, Steven (Teresa) Griffin of Gilbert, SC; maternal grandmother, Dorothy Kirby of Elgin, SC; niece and nephew, Lauren and David Weisbaum, Champaign, IL. He was predeceased by his grandparents, McBride and Vera Duke of Kingstree, SC, and Lula and Luther Yarborough of Sardinia, SC. Memorials may be made to Midlands Family Council, 8301 Farrow Road, Columbia, SC 29203.

SALUDA — Mrs. Louise Thomas Etheredge was born in Saluda County to the late Claudia and Lizzie Lott Thomas. She was married to the late Fred Otis Etheredge, and leaves to cherish memories her 3 daughters, Rosie (Alfonzo) Barnes, Peggie (Richard) Johnson, and Anita Etheredge all of Columbia, SC. Four sons, Fred Etheredge, Jr., New York, NY, Oscar (Jean) Etheredge, Norristown, PA, Larry (Annette) Etheredge, Columbia, SC, and the grandson she raised, Darvin Johnson-Etheredge, Greenwood, SC. Thirty six grandchildren, forty one great-grandchildren and thirteen great-great grandchildren. Sisters-in-law, Viola Thomas, Columbia, SC, Lucinda Gant, Saluda, SC, Marion Etheredge, Fort Washington , MD, Carolyn Etheredge and Louise (Minty) Etheredge of Washington , DC, and Mary Etheredge of Nashville, TN, two brothers-in-law, Curtis Gantt, Saluda, SC, Albert Etheredge, New York, NY. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her devoted church family.

Visitation with the family will be held Wednesday, December 15, 2004, at Palmer Memorial Chapel, 1200 Fontane Place, Columbia, SC, from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 16, 2004, at the Progressive Church Of Our Lord Jesus Christ, 347 Bouknight Ferry Road, Saluda, SC at 2:00 p.m.

Dennis Hinson

WAXHAW, N.C. — Services for Dennis Hinson are 7 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home, Lancanster, S.C. Cremation will follow. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. prior. Born in Lancaster to James and Dorothy Hinson, he died Dec. 12, 2004. Surviving are wife, Kemthia Stout Hinson; parents; daughters, Shawn Ingram, Tabithia Allen; stepchildren, Ricky, Tammy McDonald; siblings, James Hinson, Emma Elledge; 10 grandchildren.

Fred Rauton

GREENWOOD — Services for Fred Curtiss Rauton, 62, are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Siloam Baptist Church; burial in Greenwood Memorial Gardens; visitation 6-8 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home. Born in Greenwood Co. to Hoyt and Iola Rauton, he died Dec. 12, 2004. Surviving: wife, Mary Rauton; children, Mary, Fred Jr., Matthew Rauton, Misty Ennis; sisters, Ornie Walker, Belvia Gonce; 2 grandchildren; stepgrand.

Robert Estes Sr.

LAURENS — Services and burial for Robert Eugene Estes Sr., 81, are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Beaverdam Baptist Church with military honors; visitation 7-9 tonight at Kennedy Mortuary. Born in Laurens to Clarence and Lydia Estes, he died Dec. 13, 2004. Surviving: wife, Mary Estes; children, Robert Jr., Thomas Estes, Sherry Abrams; grandchildren, Donna, Tammy, Brandi, Maryjo, Alison; 7 great-grandchildren.

Ruby Morgan

LANCASTER — Services and burial for Ruby Johnson Morgan, 95, widow of Broadus Morgan, are 3 p.m. Wednesday at Union Baptist Church; visitation 6-8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home. Born in Lancaster to Jim and Thedia Johnson, she died Dec. 13, 2004. Surviving: children, Broadus Jr., William Sr. Morgan, Betty Catoe; grandchildren, Ronnie, Tim Morgan, Jan Hancock, Ruby, Cliff Catoe; 6 great-grandchildren.

Jack Watson Sr.

WALTERBORO — Mr. Jack W. Watson, Sr., 66, of 1311 Wichman Street, Walterboro died Monday, December 13, 2004, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. He was the husband of Mrs. Mary Morris Watson.

Funeral services will be held at eleven o’clock Wednesday, December 15, 2004, in the Doctor’s Creek Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
