Patricia Rasheed

PAWLEYS ISLAND — Patricia Bodie Rasheed, 73, died Saturday, December 18, 2004, at Conway Medical Center in Conway.

Mrs. Rasheed was born in Newberry on March 10, 1931, a daughter of the late Horace F. Bodie and Andrella Sherbert Bodie. She grew up in Newberry, graduated from Newberry High School and the University of South Carolina, and attended the University of Tennessee. She was a former legal secretary for several law firms including the firms of Claymon C. Grimes, Jr., and James B. Moore. Mrs. Rasheed was a member of Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church.

Surviving are: her husband, Edward Rasheed of Pawleys Island; a daughter, Anne Rasheed of Boone, N.C.; two sons, Larry Rasheed and his wife Michelle of Staunton, Va. and Jim Rasheed of Randolph, Mass.; four brothers, Horace F. Bodie, Jr. of Garden City Beach, Robert E. Bodie of Lexington, Richard K. Bodie of Chapin, and John C. Bodie of Newberry; a sister-in-law, Lucy Rasheed of Pawleys Island; and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Rasheed was predeceased by a brother, Theodore R. Bodie.

Funeral services will be eleven o’clock Tuesday morning, December 21, 2004, at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Rev. Scott R. Fleischer. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery Annex.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Monday evening, December 20, 2004, from six until eight.

Debra Poovey

CONOVER, N.C. — Debra Ann Edwards Poovey, of Running Deer Drive, Conover, died suddenly Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, at Catawba Valley Medical Center.

Born on March 28, 1951 in Columbia, S.C., to Anna Ruth Hunt Edwards and the late Leonce “Eddie” Edwards, she was the wife of Howard Rowe Poovey. A member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, Mo. Synod, she was employed with American Home Patient as a respiratory care practitioner. She was a member of Riverside Moose Lodge and Founder of Heavenly Host Charities.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, Mo. Synod, conducted by Rev. David Guelzow, with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday 7-8:30 p.m. at Hickory Funeral Home. Hickory Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Stephen’s Luther Church, Mo. Synod School.

Surviving are husband, Howard Rowe Poovey of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Settlemyre and Chad of Hickory; son and daughter-in-law, Greg Poovey and Tonya of Hickory; grandsons, Drew Settlemyre, Ryan Settlemyre, and Eric Poovey, all of Hickory; granddaughter, Cere Poovey of Hickory; sister, Lisa Marie Edwards of Columbia, SC.

She was preceded in death by her father, Leonce “Eddie” Edwards and a brother, David Edwards.

Margaret Wickenberg

COLUMBIA — Services for Margaret Gall Wickenberg, 77, will Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at 2 p.m. at St. Michael and All Angels’ Episcopal Church, 6408 Bridgewood Road. Burial will follow immediately in the church cemetery. Dunbar Funeral Home Devine Street Chapel is assisting the family.

Mrs. Wickenberg died Saturday at Still Hopes, the Episcopal Retirement home in West Columbia.

She was the widow of Charles Herbert Wickenberg Jr., who died December 9, 2004. They were married for 53 years.

Mrs. Wickenberg was born in Batesburg on Feb. 24, 1927, daughter of Vivian Ross Gall and Lillian Smith Gall. She attended Lexington County public schools and in 1948 graduated magna cum laude from Winthrop College, where she was president of the student body. She received her M.S. in Journalism from Columbia University in 1949.

Mrs. Wickenberg worked as a writer for South Carolina Magazine and served as women’s editor for The News and Courier in Charleston, where she met her future husband. She also covered the S.C. General Assembly for The Charlotte Observer. After she raised their three daughters, she served on the dean’s staff at the College of Public Health of the University of South Carolina and on the staff of the S.C. Hospital Association.

Mrs. Wickenberg was a member of the board of Richland Memorial Hospital’s Center for Cancer Treatment and Research, and of the Board of Trustees of Richland Memorial Hospital for 12 years, where in 1981, she was elected its first woman chairman. She served more than 2,000 volunteer hours for Richland Memorial Hospital over 30 years. Mrs. Wickenberg was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Midlands Chapter of the Red Cross and the S.C. State Human Affairs Commission,

An avid golfer, she was a past president of the Forest Lake Ladies’ Golf Association, a former two-time president of the S.C. Women’s Golf Association, a club champion and winner of the President’s Cup Handicap Tournament in 1977.

A founding member of St. Michael and All Angels’ Episcopal Church, she served on the Vestry and as the first female Junior Warden in the Diocese of Upper South Carolina.

Mrs. Wickenberg is survived by three daughters: The Rev. Beth Wickenberg Ely (wife of Duncan Cairnes Ely) of Columbus, N.C., and Nancy Cobb (Mrs. G. Thomas Cobb) and Ann Williamson (Mrs. L. Dean Williamson), both of Columbia.

She is also survived by five grandchildren: Mrs. Kelly Williamson Johnston, Benjamin George Cobb, Charles Thomas Cobb, Taylor Crawford Williamson and Penn Wickenberg Ely; and one great grandchild, Hayley Ann Johnston.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons; her grandson-in-law, Billy Johnston; her nephew John Gall; and Greg Rawls.

The family will be at the home of the Cobbs, 3509 Greenleaf Road, Columbia, SC 29206 on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church immediately after the burial.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Endowment Fund, St. Michael and All Angels’ Episcopal Church, 6408 Bridgewood Road, Columbia, SC 29206.

Adeline Yandle

COLUMBIA — Adeline “Laddie” Edith Crosby Yandle died Sunday, December 19, 2004. Visitation will be at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, between 6:30-8:30 pm on Tuesday, December 21, 2004 and family will receive friends at 2213 Percival Road at other times. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2004 at 2:00 pm, at Alpine Baptist Church (Corner of Alpine & Percival Roads), with interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Leesburg Road. The Rev. C.A. Fleming and the Rev. Rick Kirchinger will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Chris Yandle, Teague Yandle, Corey Yandle, Eddie Johnson, Brian Yandle, Joey Yandle and Jimmy Crosby, Jr.

Mrs. Yandle was born on May 19, 1931 in Columbia, to the late James Odom and Lillian Iceline Crosby. She ran the family garbage business until retiring in 1987. She has spent her life caring for others, raising children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Alpine Baptist Church where she attended faithfully when her health permitted.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years (December 24, 1948) Jack Elvin Yandle; two sons Homer E. (Sharon Wright) Yandle and Ronnie E. (Debbie) Yandle, two daughters Sharon Y. (Jimmy) Johnson and Darlene Yandle Goff, 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, sister Irene C. Yandle and brother James D. Crosby, and her childhood friend Claudia Shealy, and her pet, “Buddy.” She was preceded in death by baby Jacqueline Faye Yandle and brother Paul A. Crosby.

Memorials can be made to Alpine Baptist Church. Our special thanks to the nursing staff of ICU and IICU Providence Hospital Forest Drive, Dr. Frederic Smith and Dr. Sarkis Derderian.

Tony Hutto, Sr.

WAGENER — Mr. Tony Hale Hutto, Sr., 55, went home to be with his Lord Saturday, December 18, 2004.

Mr. Hutto was born in Augusta, Ga. the son of Martha Pamelia Clem Hutto and the late Fred Hale “Butch” Hutto. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of West Columbia.

Mr. Hutto is survived by his wife of 35 years, Shirley of Wagener, his mother of N. Augusta, sons and daughters-in-love Tony H. “Bubba” Hutto, Jr. and Michelle of N. Augusta, Shane Hutto and Brandy and Matthew Hutto and Tina of Wagener, and 3 grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday, December 20th from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Calvary Baptist Church Fellowship Building. The Funeral Service will be Tuesday, December 21st at 3:00 p.m. in the Calvary Baptist Church with the Reverend Vernon Pritchard officiating. Mr. Hutto will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Tony request that memorials be made to Calvary Baptist Church Missions, 3254 Princeton Road, West Columbia, S.C. 29170. Special thanks and appreciation to Dr. Rosemary Lambert-Falls, Cindy Furtick and the staff of S. C. Oncology. Blizzard Funeral Home, 153 South Main St., Wagener, S.C. Louise Dagnall

LAURENS — Services for Louise Garrett Dagnall will be held at 2 p.m. (visitation 1 p.m.) Tuesday at Laurens First Baptist Church with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Kennedy Mortuary is in charge. Born in Spartanburg Co. to Carl and Eula Nelson Garrett, she died Dec. 19, 2004. Surviving are husband, William Dagnall; sons, Billy, Roy Ridge; stepson, John Dagnall; four sisters; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Louise Dagnall

Gussie Comer

UNION — Services for Gussie Mae Farr Comer, 93, widow of Emerson Comer, are 3:30 p.m. Monday (visitation 7-9 tonight) at S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home with burial in Union Memorial Gardens. Born in Kelton to Richard and Ethel Inman Farr, she died Dec. 18, 2004. Surviving are daughters, Nancy Gallman, Mary Prince; sisters, Virginia Farr, Grace Lown; seven grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren.

Charles Reames Jr.

COLUMBIA — Charles Melvin Reames Jr., 83, husband of Mary Hanna Reames, passed on to be with the Lord Friday, December 17, 2004, at NHC of Columbia.

Born December 25, 1920, in Lee County, he was a son of the late Charles Melvin Reames Sr. and the late Mary Free Reames.

Mr. Reames served his country in World War II and retired from the S.C. Department of Transportation as Maintenance Engineer for Orangeburg County. He was an active servant for God as a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bennetsville and served on the Marlboro County Water Board.

Survivors besides his wife include two daughters, Mary Anne Reames of Columbia and Charlene Reames Easterling and her husband, Bill, of North Myrtle Beach; seven grandchildren, Deric Rosenbaum, Bryan Faucette, Natalie Rosenbaum, Wesley Harris, Patrick Faucette, Julia Shchrecker and Nena Mashew; five great-grandchildren; a brother, John F. Reames; and a sister, Sarah Reames Dukes.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Reames Faucette.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 P.M. Monday in the chapel of Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home in Bishopville.

Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 P.M. Monday at Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Bennetsville, 311 East Main St., Bennetsville, SC.

Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of arrangements.
