Annie Lou J. Haley

Annie Lou Jackson Haley, 87, widow of Friendly Parker Haley, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at the home of her daughter.

Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Rollin Timothy Jackson Sr. and the late Annie Lou Newman Jackson.

She was a member of New Salem Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Peggy H. (Cecil) Bagnal of Manning and Marie (Charles) Bernsen of Florence; a sister, Christine R. English of Florence; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son, Julius P. Haley Jr.; a brother, R.T. Jackson Jr.; and a sister, Addie Frances Jackson Kolb.

Graveside services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004 in Evergreen Memorial Park with the Rev. Robert Rivers officiating.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter was in charge of arrangements.

Kimberly E. Hilton

Kimberly Elexis Hilton, 9, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at Palmetto Health Richland, Columbia.

Born Sept. 11, 1995, in Manning, she was a daughter of Jennie White Hilton and the late Earl Hilton. She attended Manning Primary School, where she was in the second grade. She attended Antioch Baptist Church with her father.

Survivors besides her mother, Jennie White Hilton of the home, include her paternal grandparents, James and Naomi Hilton of Manning; maternal grandparents, Maebell White and Isaac McKnight of Manning; stepbrother, Chris Dingle; one brother, Quwan Wilson Wright of Lake City; one sister, April Hilton of the home; reared in the home, Niesha Pearson of Manning.

She was preceded in death by her father, Earl Hilton.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at Manning Junior High School, Boyce Street, Manning, with the Rev. Antonio Lee, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Revs. Michael Abraham, Halbert Tucker and Bobby McDonald.

Burial was in Antioch Gardens.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of arrangements.

Jeraldine Green James

Mrs. Jeraldine Green James died Dec. 17, 2004, in the Regency Hospital in Florence.

She was the daughter of the late Ellison Green and Lucinda Nelson Green and the wife of Robert James, Sr.

Born Aug. 2, 1943, in Hallsboro, N.C., Mrs. James was a member of Antioch R.U.M.E. Church in Rimini for many years.

She was educated in the public schools of Clarendon and Sumter counties and was retired from Sumter District 2 School system as a custodian.

Besides her husband she is survived by two sons, Walter L. Green of Thomasville, N.C., and the Rev. Robert A. (Tina) James Jr. of Rimini; three daughters, Brenda J. (Jessie) Johnson of College Park, Ga., Barbara James of Rimini and Shelia (Alphonso) Choice of Wedgefield; two brothers, David (Vivian) Green of High Point, N.C., and Earnest (Mary Ann) Green of Rimini; three sisters, Christine (James) Ellison and Rena Bell (Elijah) Johnson, both of Thomasville, N.C., and Sarah Green of Rimini; and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at Antioch R.U.M.E. Church in Rimini with the Rev. William Polite, pastor, presiding, assisted by the Revs. D. Sinkler, Warren Hatcher, Amos Hatcher and Robert James Jr.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Community Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Eadon McFaddin

Dorothy Eadon “Dotty” McFaddin, 65, wife of Ansel Rose McFaddin, Jr., died Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at her home in Manning. Her devotion to God and her fellow man formed the foundation for her life and directed her career and activities.

Mrs. McFaddin was born Dec. 27, 1939, to the late Clarence Edwin Eadon and Dorothy Elizabeth Bomar Eadon. She was a lifelong resident of Manning. She was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County and graduated from Manning High School. She attended the Medical University of South Carolina and graduated from the School of Nursing.

She began her nursing career at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, was a nurse with Clarendon County School District 1, and retired after 32 years with the Clarendon County Health Dept. While at the Health Department, she served as the county nurse supervisor for eleven years. She was awarded the South Carolina Excellence in Public Health Nursing Award, Clarendon County Nurse of the Year and DHEC Service Award. She also served as president of the S. C. Nurses Association.

She was a lifetime member of Manning United Methodist Church where she served on the Board of Trustees, Administrative Board and Council of Ministries, and was chairman of the Worship Committee for many years. She was a member and circle leader of the Myrtle Strange Circle. She also served as co-chairman of the Stewardship Committee for the Manning United Methodist Church Capital Funds Campaign.

She was active in community affairs volunteering for the American Red Cross, Clarendon County Council on Aging, Meals on Wheels, and the Palmetto Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. She was the 2000 Volunteer of the Year for the Mid-State SC Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. She was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames, founded and was a charter member of the Clarendon Pilot Club where she also served as president, co-director of Community Projects, and on the State Board of Governors. She was an active member of the beloved “Five Alive Group”.

She leaves to honor and cherish her memory her husband of 43 years; a son, Dr. Ansel Rose (Jennifer) McFaddin, III of Sumter; a daughter, Frances McFaddin (Scott) Moody of Hilton Head Island; four grandchildren, Katelyn McFaddin, Robert Moody, John McFaddin and Eadon Moody; three sisters, Margaret (Jerry) Robertson of Manning, Claire Eadon of Charleston, and Jackie (Mike) Chalfant of Columbia; and a beloved sister-in-law, Martha Lee (Ollen) Rose of Manning.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, in Manning United Methodist Church with the Rev. Debra Quilling officiating, assisted by Dr. James C. Adams.

Burial was in the McFaddin Family Cemetery in Gable.

Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 68, Manning, S.C. 29102 or the Clarendon County Pilot Club’s “Caregiver’s Morning Out”, P. O. Box 495, Manning, S.C. 29102.

Arawana T. Miller

PAMPLICO — Mrs. Arawana Turner Miller, 51, wife of David L. Miller, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, at her residence after an illness.

Mrs. Miller was born in Florence County, the daughter of Georgie Lee Poston Turner and the late Legare (Pomp) Adger Turner. She was a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Nursing and was a registered nurse for McLeod Hospital System for 27 years, including service with Pee Dee Ear, Nose & Throat and most recently with the Pain Management Center, with a total of 30 years in the nursing profession. She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, where she was president of the Women’s Circle, and she was a member of the Pamplico Town and Garden Club.

Survivors include her husband, David L. Miller of Pamplico; one daughter, Sarah LeAnn Miller of Pamplico; one son, David Legare Miller of Pamplico; and her mother Mrs. Georgie Lee P. Turner of Hannah; two brothers, Boyce Alvin Turner of Hannah and Carey Legare Turner Sr., and his wife, Deborah Justice Turner of Summerton; and one nephew, Carey Legare Turner Jr., Summerton.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, in Bethlehem United Methodist Church.

Burial followed in the Prosser Cemetery.

Brockington Funeral Home of Lake City, was in charge.

Ruby Lowder Stukes

Ruby Lowder Stukes, 83, widow of Roston C. “Rossie” Stukes, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, in Heritage Home in Florence.

Born Oct. 20, 1921, in Manning, she was a daughter of the late John O. and Mary Ridgeway Lowder. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Ruby Jean (John) Lewis of Stockbridge, Ga., Rick (J. B.) Brown of Summerton and Sandra Scott of Florence; a son, Roston C. “Doc” Stukes Jr. of Manning; two sisters, Maria Stukes of Manning and Mary Tallman of Sumter; a brother, Hubert Lowder of Belvedere; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Shorter and Pearl Holiday; and three brothers, Armstrong Lowder, Charles Lowder and Johnny Lowder.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning. The Rev. Lee Brown officiated.

Burial followed in Manning Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 2229, Sumter S.C. 29151.

James G. Tisdale

James Graham Tisdale, 86, husband of Mildred “Midge” Simmons Tisdale, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, at Mariner Health of Sumter West.

Born April 4, 1918, in Mayesville, he was a son of the late Louise Cleaveland Tisdale Sr. and Henrietta Touchberry Tisdale. He was a member of Manning United Methodist Church, the Lions Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, DAV and was a mason. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, having served on the aircraft carrier the U.S.S. Lexington.

Survivors besides his wife of Manning include three sons, James Graham Tisdale Jr., Jeffrey Tisdale and Jonathan Tisdale, all of Connecticut; a daughter, Jesstine Meagher of Vermont; two stepsons, Shaun Browne of Manning and David Browne of Ogden, Utah; a stepdaughter, Sharon Smith of Sumter; two sisters, Amy Rose Tomlinson and Carol Cheezem, both of Florida, and Miriam Griffing of Pennsylvania; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathleen and Jane Sofia and four brothers, Louise Cleaveland Tisdale Jr., William Alfred Tisdale, David Tisdale and Julian Tisdale.

A memorial services was held on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Debra Quilling officiating.

Frankie Lee Samuel

Frankie Lee Samuel, 55, husband of Mary Alma Prince Samuel, died Jan. 14, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Aug. 1, 1949, in Manning, he was a son of the late Frank Wilson and Willie Mae Samuel Farmer and stepson of the late David Farmer. He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. In his youth, he joined Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator with Sharpe Construction until his health failed.

Survivors besides his wife, Mary P. Samuel of the home, include one son, Joseph Samuel of Sumter; two daughters, Chrishonda Samuel of the home and Sylvia Samuel of the U.S. Army, Korea; three brothers, David Samuel and Joseph Samuel, both of Sumter, and William Samuel of Pompano, Fla.; three sisters, Rebecca S. (Larry) Parrott and Agnas M. Jennings, both of Sumter, and Minnie P. Johnson of Paxville; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Samuel.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, at Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Manning, with the Rev. Dr. Leon Winn, pastor, officiating, assisted by Minister Curtis Sinkler.

Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery.

Sara Harrington McCord

Sara Harrington McCord, 79, widow of Charles Lewis McCord, died Sunday, January 23, 2005, in Tuomey Hospital in Sumter.

Born July 9, 1925, in Kingstree, she was a daughter of the late William Lucas Harrington, Jr. and the late Olive Ernestine Fisher Harrington. She was a retired supervisor with the Department of Social Services, and a member of the Presbyterian Church at Manning.

She is survived by three sons, Charles Lewis “Chuck” (Diane) McCord of Manning, John William “Billy” McCord of Charleston, and Richard Lawrence “Larry” (Cindy) McCord of Pinopolis; two daughters, Linda McCord Taylor of Manning and Carol McCord (Tripp) Player of Columbia; a brother, William Lucas Harrington, Jr. of Columbia; a sister, Loree Harrington Gandy of Hartsville; seven grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Graveside services were held on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, in Brewington Cemetery, with the Rev. Charles Tyler officiating.

Memorials may be made to Children’s Fund, Clarendon County Dept. of Social Services, 3 South Church Street, Manning, S.C. 29102.

Shirley R. Floyd

Shirley A. Reardon Floyd, 66, wife of Jimmy Floyd, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in New Zion, she was the daughter of the late Hazel Reardon and the late Annie Rene Harrington Reardon.

Surviving are her husband of the home, a daughter, Brenda A. (Wilton) Crosby of Sumter; a brother, Leon A. (Belinda) Reardon of New Zion; three grandchildren, Jimmy T. Crosby, Elizabeth A. Crosby and Ericia S. Crosby; three great-grandchildren, James M. Crosby, Johnathan W. Crosby and Hayden T. Lane.

Mrs. Floyd was preceded in death by a son, Jerry N. Floyd.

Services were held privately.
