Joseph D. Shuford III

Joseph Daniel Shuford III, 20, of Mount Pleasant, has gone to join his Lord and Savior after a courageous battle against cancer. His passing occurred Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at his residence.

Joe was born Feb. 7, 1985, in Charleston, son of Joseph D. Shuford Jr. and Betsy Poe Shuford. He graduated from Wando High School and attended Lees-McCrae College. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church. He was an avid outdoorsman, duck hunter, sport fisherman and snowboarder.

Most of all, he loved his family and friends.

Surviving are his parents of Mount Pleasant; one brother, Allen DuBose Shuford of Mount Pleasant; maternal grandmother, Barbara Jean Fann Poe of Manning; and maternal great-grandmother, Lois Fann Graybeal of Sumter.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Koonce Poe, and his paternal grandparents, Joseph Daniel Shuford and Margaret Bradley Shuford of Columbia.

A memorial service celebrating his life was held on Friday, March 4, 2005, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church Ministry Center.

Memorials may be made to the St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Youth Ministry, 440 Whilden St., Mount Pleasant, S.C. 29464, or Hospice of Charleston Inc., 3870 Leeds Ave., Suite 101, North Charleston, S.C. 29405.

Elizabeth E. Baucom

Elizabeth Earney Baucom, 82, widow of Jeter Baucom, died Monday, March 14, 2005, at her home in Summerton.

Born August 30, 1922, in Gastonia, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Luther A. and Nell Elizabeth Howe Earney. She was a member of Lake Marion Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Robert E. “Bobby” (Vi) Baucom of Summerton; two sisters, Hilda Phillips of Gastonia, N.C. and Fay (Rubin) Perez of Summerfield, Fla.; beloved cousin, Lena Sansing of Gastonia, N.C.

Graveside services were held on Wednesday, March 16, 2005, in Evergreen Memorial Park, with the Rev. Larry Kennedy officiating.

Memorials may be made to Lake Marion Baptist Church, 1182 Scott Lake Road, Summerton, S.C. 29148, or to the American Diabetes Association, P. O. Box 1131, Fairfax, Va. 22038-1131.

Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory was in charge of arrangements.

Cecil H. Evans

PINOPOLIS — Cecil Herman Evans, 70, died Thursday, March 10, 2005, in Moncks Corner Medical Center.

Born Sept. 16, 1934, in New Zion, he was a son of Edna Osborne Evans and the late Ernest Evans. He was a retired electrician.

Surviving besides his mother of New Zion are a son, Cecil L. (Robin) Evans of Pinopolis; a sister, Johnnie May Bailey of Lake City; and two grandchildren, Nicholas and Patrick Evans of Pinopolis.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 13, 2005, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning.

Burial followed in New Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Isaac James Sr.

LANCASTER, Pa. — Isaac “Buddy” James Sr., 79, widower of Emmaline Rogers James, died Thursday, March 3, 2005, at his residence.

Born April 4, 1925, in Wilmington, N.C., he was a son of the late Isaac James and Bertha Davis Edwards James. He attended Bethel AME Church in Lancaster, Pa. He was employed with Lancaster Mallable Co., until retirement in 1983. He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County.

Survivors includes four sons, Isaac James Jr. and Donald (Barbara) James, all of Manning, Chappell (Wanda) James and James D. James, all of Lancaster, Pa.; five daughters, Sophia D. Stepheney, Bertha A. James, Rogersmae (Jeremiah) Robinson, all of Lancaster, Pa., Beatrice L. (Daniel) Smith of Lebanon, Pa., Daisy L. (Daniel) (Willie) Carter of Manning; two brothers, Eddie and Bernice James, both of Wilmington, N.C.; two sisters, Daisy James Afford of Wilmington and Deloris James Goodman of Philadelphia, Pa.; 32 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 12, 2005, at the Hayes F. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Cokley Richburg officiating.

Burial was in St. Matthews Cemetery.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of arrangements.

Tedo G. Broadway

Tedo Geddings Broadway, 85, widow of C. Mendel Broadway, died Thursday, March 17, 2005, in Lake Marion Nursing Facility in Summerton.

Born Nov. 26, 1919, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Marvin and Eva Pack Geddings. She was former owner and operator of Town Square Flower Shop, a member of Paxville United Methodist Church and was a devoted mother.

Surviving are three sons, Ernest T. (Charlotte) Broadway and Charles David (Fran) Broadway, all of Manning, and Thomas Harold (Betty) Broadway of Elgin; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rosemary Broadway.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 19, 2005, in Paxville United Methodist Church.

Burial followed in Paxville Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Paxville United Methodist Church, c/o Harold Corbett, 1130 McLeod Road, Manning, S.C. 29102.

Henry Hazel Graham III

CHANTILLY, Va. — Henry Hazel Graham III, 18, died Sunday, March 13, 2005, in Ferrum, Va.

Born April 22, 1986, in Providence, R.I., he was a son of Henry Hazel Graham Jr. (former Manning town administrator) and Janet Cangialosi Graham. He was a freshman at Ferrum College in Ferrum, and was a 2004 graduate of Chantilly High School in Chantilly. He was a member of the Floris United Methodist Church in Herndon, Va.

Survivors besides his parents of Chantilly include a brother, William Allen Graham of the home; two sisters, Jennifer Graham (Raouf) Yousfi of Owings Mills, Md., and Allison Courtney Graham of the home; his paternal grandmother, Ruth V. Graham of Pinewood; and his maternal grandmother, Gloria Cangialosi of Park Ridge, N.J.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Henry Hazel Graham Sr., and his maternal grandfather, Martin Cangialosi.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 17, 2005, in the Pinewood United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Broomall and Chaplain Wes Astin officiating.

Burial was in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held at Ferrum College in Ferrum and at Floris United Methodist Church in Herndon.

Memorials may be made to the Pinewood United Methodist Young Ladies Circle (PUMYLC), P.O. Box 135, Pinewood, S.C. 29125.

Minnie Pack

Minnie Pack, 53, wife of Oscar Pack Jr., died March 16, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born June 14, 1951, in Manning, she was a daughter of Carrie William Lemon Briggs and the late Ben Lemon and stepdaughter of Oscar Briggs Sr. She received her formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County and was a graduate of Manning High School Class of 1972. At an early age, she joined Zion Hill Baptist Church in Paxville, where she served on the chancel choir, usher’s board and was a trustee’s wife. She worked at Cooper Industries until her death.

Survivors besides her husband, Oscar Pack Jr. of the home, and mother and stepfather, Carrie and Oscar Briggs Sr. of Manning, include three sons, Phillip (Lataya) Tomlin of Fort Belvoir, Va., Damon Tomlin of Fort Hood, Texas, and Kendrick Pack of Sumter; one daughter, Tervella (Heyward) Pack Singleton of Sumter; two brothers, James Lemon and Lester (Deloris) Lemon, both of Manning; four sisters, Thelma (Thomas) Baxton, Sadie (Richard) Bradley and Laura Daney, all of Baltimore, Md., and Sarah (Leroy) Conyers of Manning; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held on Monday, March 21, 2005, at New Bethel Missionary Baptist in Sumter, with the Rev. Willie Wright, pastor, officiating, the Rev. Clifford Gaymon presiding, assisting the Revs. Richard Dyson and Henry McCray.

Burial followed in Hillside Memorial Gardens.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of arrangements.

Charles M. Worsham

Mr. Charles M. Worsham, age 86, died Saturday, March 19, 2005, after an illness. Mr. Worsham was bon Jan. 14, 1919, in Clarendon County. He was a son of the late Hugh Yancy Worsham and Corrie Mae Webber Worsham. He was a graduate of Olanta High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He retired as head of payroll at Laz-E-Boy of Florence in 1984. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Florence.

He was receded in death by his parents; a sister, Victoria Worsham; and two brothers, Paul W. Worsham and Hugh M. Worsham.

Mr. Worsham is survived by his sisters, Sibyl Worsham Farmer of Florence, two nieces, Pamela Farmer and Dale Worsham, both of Florence; a nephew, David (Mary) Farmer of Florence; a great-niece, Brandy (Robert) Evans of Germany; two great nephews, David Farmer Jr. of Charlotte and Scott (Marifaye) Haselden of Florence; ad two great-great-nephews, Robby and Benjamin Evans of Germany.

Graveside services were held Monday, March 21, 2005 at the Olanta Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Florence or to the charity of one’s choice.

Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta was in charge of arrangements.

Nathaniel Pearson Jr.

Nathaniel Pearson Jr., 72, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, in New York.

Born Feb. 22, 1932, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Nathaniel Pearson Sr. and the late Martha Etta McGhaney Pearson.

Mr. Pearson was educated in the public schools of Sumter and prior to his retirement, he was an owner of a taxi and limousine service. He is survived by one brother, Herman Pearson of Sumter; and two sisters, Mable Pearson Goodine Bennett of Manning and Bernedine Faison of Las Vegas.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005 at Hillside Memorial Park in Sumter with the Rev. Daniel McGhaney officiating.

Fleming & De Laine Funeral Home in Manning was in charge of funeral arrangements.
