Dorothy W. Storff

CONWAY — Dorothy Willis Storff, 83, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001.

She moved to Myrtle Trace in 1989. She was involved with the arts community in Myrtle Beach and was an active member of Kingston Presbyterian Church.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Kingston Presbyterian Church, 800 Third Avenue, Conway.

Gray Funeral Home of Westfield, N.J., is in charge.

Amanda K. Taylor

MYRTLE BEACH — Amanda Karetas Taylor, 40, wife of Jeffrey Taylor and daughter of Wanna Mae Powell Karetas, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, in Chesapeake, Va.

Arrangements will be announced by McMillan-Small Funeral Home of Myrtle Beach.

William `Bill' Turner Jr.

CONWAY — William E. "Bill" Turner Jr., 54, of Sixth Avenue, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Conway Hospital.

He was born in Camden, a son of the late William Earl Turner Sr. and Mae Ruth Turner.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Conway. He graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1965, was a graduate of Spartanburg Methodist College and attended Clemson University. He was employed at Hillcrest Cemetery as a superintendent. He was a former member of the Conway Jaycees and the Conway Kiwanis Club.

Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Goldfinch Turner; two sons, William E. "Will" Turner III and his wife, Maria, of Greenville; David B. Turner and his wife, Amie, of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; a brother, Tim W. Turner and his wife, Naomi, of Brighton, Mich.; a sister, Loraine T. Brown and her husband, Mac, of O'Fallon, Ill.; and a granddaughter, Rebecca Lynne Turner.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway chapel.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church. The Rev. John Hipp will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Family Life Center, P.O. Box 58, Conway, SC 29528.

Frank T. West

MARION — Frank Tyson West, 81, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at home after an illness.

He was born Jan. 10, 1921, in Georgetown, a son of the late Marshall Miles and Annie Daniels West.

He was president of Marion Lumber Co. from 1959 to 1970; owned and managed Baywood Farms from 1970 to 1988; was S.C. governor of the Southern Pine Bureau for four years; and was a member of the board of directors of the S.C. National Bank.

He entered the Army as a second lieutenant and served on the general staff of Lt. Gen. John Hodge, commander of the XXIV Corps. He retired with the rank of major in 1946. He graduated from Marion High School and Clemson University. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Marion.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Sydnor Cain West; a daughter, Ann Reed Springs and her husband, John, of Murrells Inlet; two granddaughters, Lauren Sydnor Springs and Mary Alice Springs, both of Murrells Inlet; and a sister, Irene Hammersley of Chester, Va.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Eugene West and Thomas West; and two sisters, Helen Worrell and Lib Griffin.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church of Marion. The Rev. Dennis Lee will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the home, on Edgewood Drive in Marion.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Marion, P.O. Box 155, Marion, SC 29571.

Smith-Collins Funeral Home of Marion is in charge.

Anne S. Bethea

MULLINS — Anne Stackhouse Bethea, 82, widow of Grady Hudson Bethea, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at Marion County Medical Center after an illness.

She was born April 3, 1919, in Plains, Ga., a daughter of the late Randolph P. and Ruth Thacker Stackhouse.

She was a retired teacher, having taught for more than 30 years in Mullins. She was a graduate of Limestone College. She was a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church in Mullins and a number of the Mable Goodyear Circle in Nichols.

Survivors include a son, Grady H. Bethea Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Lugoff; a daughter, Sarah B. Devers and her husband, Jimmy, of Nichols; six grandchildren, Milton Devers, Anne Genest, Hudson Bethea, Savanna Bethea, Evy Bethea and Tom Bethea; a great-grandchild, Grace Genest; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Randolph P. Stackhouse and Thomas B. Stackhouse.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Cox-Collins Funeral Home in Mullins.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Devotion Gardens Cemetery. The Revs. Paul Frey and Danny Wiley will officiate.

Memorials may be made to Macedonia United Methodist Church, 402 N. Main St., Mullins, SC 29574.

Ernest T. Cook

GALIVANTS FERRY — Ernest Tillman Cook, 72, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Loris Community Hospital after an illness.

He was born Nov. 11, 1929, in Dillon County, a son of the late William Quincy Cook and Gussie Cook Cook.

He retired from Southern Packaging Co. in Mullins.

Survivors include six children, Linda Faye Gerrald of Mullins, Tina Coleman of Interlachen, Fla., William Cook of Aynor, Ernest Tillman Cook Jr. of Mullins, Layton Carlton Cook of Lake City and Addie Mae Cook of Mullins; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Butch Singleton of Conway and Shane Singleton of Aynor; two stepdaughters, Karen Singleton Reed of Aynor and Susan Singleton Soles of Conway; 13 stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; four brothers, Edwin Leo Cook of Aynor, Eugene Cook of Galivants Ferry, Donald Cook of Aynor, and Thomas Cook of Gresham; and a sister, Leatha Kersey of Deland, Fla.

He was predeceased by two daughters, Annie Mae Cook and Virginia Darnell Cook; a stepson, Kurt Douglas Singleton; a brother, Lee Cook; and a sister, Mabel Perritt.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Aynor Church of God. The Rev. Jerry Love will officiate. Burial will be in Cook Family Cemetery in Aynor.

Cox-Collins Funeral Home in Mullins is in charge.
