Linda G. Elliott

GEORGETOWN — Linda G. Elliott, 54, wife of John Henry Elliott Sr. died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

She was born Oct. 5, 1947 in Georgetown County, a daughter of the late Joseph Madrick Goings and Eva Small Goings.

She was a retired school food service employee with Kensington Elementary School. She was a member of Georgetown Lighthouse Holiness Church and also served as Sunday school secretary.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three sons, John Henry Elliott Jr. and his wife, Zeta Kathryn, of Myrtle Beach, Randy Earl Elliott and his wife, Polly, of Georgetown and Brian Keith Elliott and his wife, Melissa, of Georgetown; three grandchildren, Jessica Renee Elliott, Randy Otis Elliott and Emma Caroline Elliott; two brothers, L.C. Goings and Linwood Goings both of Georgetown; three sisters, Susan Turner of Andrews and Doris "Frog" Poston and Jennifer "Peanut" Harrelson, both of Georgetown; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Graham Funeral Home in Georgetown.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Rock Pentecostal Holiness Church. The Revs. James A. McElveen and Velma Hodges will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery Annex.

April Gray

MYRTLE BEACH — April Storm Buffkin Gray, 54, of 47th Avenue N., died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

She was born April 11, 1947, in Tabor City, N.C., a daughter of the late Jamison and Lucille Strickland Buffkin.

She graduated from Tabor City High School in 1965 and attended Southeastern Community College. She was a graduate of Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce "Leadership Grand Strand" program. She gave to her community through the many volunteer events in which she participated. For the Chamber of Commerce she was the "Executive Membership Council" sales leader in 1991 and worked on many chamber committees. She enjoyed organizing the hospitality at the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony of the City of Myrtle Beach for many years in which her husband plays the role of Santa Claus. She was "The Sun-News Volunteer of the Year 1997," nominated by the American Cancer Society. She was the chairperson of the American Cancer Society, Myrtle Beach Area, "Relay for Life," 1998. She was a "Kentucky Colonel of the Commonwealth-of Kentucky." She was president of the Myrtle Beach Shrine Club Ladies Auxiliary in 1994. She was a member of The Omar Shrine Chefs Unit Ladies Auxiliary, and the Waccamaw Shrine Club Ladies Auxiliary. She was a key staff person of the many of the South Atlantic Shrine Conventions held in Myrtle Beach. She was a princess of the "Daughters Of The Nile," Milcah No. 77, Mount Pleasant. She was a member of the Shriners "One-Hundred Million Club." She was the current first lady of Omar Shrine Center as the wife of its Potentate, (President). She worked tirelessly for "The Shriners Hospitals For Children" and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Myrtle Beach. She worked where she was needed whether as a leader or servant. She served for many years as the director of the Nursery Department. She loved to feed others, she worked in the church kitchen as part of the special hostess committee and specialized with very little resources in feeding the multitude. She organized the food mission of the "Grand Strand Passion Play," and provided food for the choir. She served as a member on many varied church committees, and loved working with the youth. She moved to Myrtle Beach in 1965. In the 1970s she worked for the Genco Janitorial Supply. She was office manager for 16 years with Hazel Hatchell State Farm Insurance Agency until Hazel's retirement, and then worked with Wade Davis State Farm Insurance Agency until her illness in December 2001. She served many years as secretary of the Grand Strand area Life Underwriters Association. She and her husband, Bob own Sunco Pool Co.

Survivors include her husband, Bob Gray; a son, Philip Gray of Conway; three daughters, Charlene Hewitt of Danville, Va. and Abigail Buffkin Brown and Rachel Gray, both of Myrtle Beach; seven grandchildren, Brittany, Erica, Chelsea, Tonya, Jasmine, Stephen and Tabitha; three brothers, Terry Buffkin of Mount Vernon, Lane Buffkin of Whiteville, N.C., and Kenny Buffkin of Bayboro; three sisters, Mary O'Brian of Cameron Park, Calif., Linda Garland of Southport, N.C., and Donna Shelley of Green Sea; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Phillip and Esther Gray; a brother-in-law, Dan Gray; three sisters-in-law, Ellen Chapman, all of Myrtle Beach, and Nelda Ball and Julia Gray, both of Greenville; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many, many friends.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel.

The funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Myrtle Beach. Burial will be in Ocean Woods Cemetery.

Emma T. Haynes

FAIR BLUFF, N.C. — Emma Turbeville Haynes, 77, of 1345 Coleman Cemetery Road, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at the University of North Carolina Hospital.

She was a member of Cherry Grove Baptist Church and a devoted church worker.

Survivors include two sons, Tommy Haynes and his wife, Miriam, of Cerro Gordo, N.C., and Rossie Haynes and his wife, Donna, of Fair Bluff; four daughters, Fronnie L. Huggins, Marilyn H. Floyd and her husband, Jimmy, of North Myrtle Beach, Barbara H. Enzor and her husband, Irvin Jr., of Fair Bluff and Diantha H. Vaught and her husband, Billy, of Loris; three brothers, Rowdy Turbeville of Salisbury, N.C., Taft Turbeville, of Molly, N.C., and H.L. Turbeville of Fair Bluff; three sisters, Pearlene Coleman of Salisbury, N.C., Azilee Redwine of Charlotte, N.C., and Kathleen Dudney of Fair Bluff; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Friday at Meares Funeral Home in Fair Bluff, N.C.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Cherry Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. Ray Lundy and Dr. Doyle Holder will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Cherry Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 9833 Swamp Fox Highway W., Cerro Gordo, NC 28430.

Clarisa Hensley

CONWAY — Clarisa G. Allen Hensley, 44, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel.

June H. Lundy

GEORGETOWN — June H. Lundy, 67, wife of C. Nolan Lundy, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital in Charleston.

She was born July 30, 1934, in Mobile County, Ala., a daughter of Idouma Weekly Havard and the late Ernest Herbert Havard.

She was a graduate of Vigor High School and attended Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala. She had resided in Georgetown since 1971. Previously, she was employed as a secretary with the Army in Texas and later at Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile.

She was a charter member of the Belle Isle Garden Club.

She was a member of First Baptist Church and the co-ed Adult II-Lide Williams Sunday school class.

She was also a former children's Sunday school teacher and a homemaker.

Survivors, in addition to her husband and her mother of Chickasaw, Ala., include a son, Robert N. Lundy and his wife, Amy, of St. Petersburg, Fla; a daughter, Claire Lundy-Surratt and her husband, William, of Georgetown; two grandchildren, Samantha June Lundy and William Nolan Surratt; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Larry G. Havard.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church of Georgetown.

The Rev. Ted Sherrill will officiate. Visitation will follow at the church.

A committal service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Building Fund, 219 Cleland St., Georgetown, SC 29440.

Louise B. Lundy

CONWAY — Louise B. Lundy, 73, of Horry community, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at Conway Hospital after a long illness.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at Palmetto Funeral Home in Conway.

Arrangements will be announced by Palmetto Funeral Home in Conway.

Eddie W. Myers

GEORGETOWN — Eddie Wilson Myers, 68, of the Plantersville community, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002 at home of natural causes.

Arrangements will be announced by Wild's Funeral Home in Georgetown.
