Thomas Jackson Jr.

BRITTONS NECK — Thomas Jackson Jr., 55, died Friday, May 24, 2002, at Marion County Hospital, after an illness.

He was born Aug. 16, 1946, in Conway, a son of Thomas Jackson Sr. and the late Mattie Stanley Dozier.

He attended public schools and was a member of Soul Chapel AME Church.

Survivors, in addition to his father and stepmother, Carrie Jackson of Washington, include his wife, Phyllis A. Jackson; six sons, Branden Jackson, Thomas Wheeler of Orangeburg, Gary R. Grate of Florence, Thomas Jackson III of Conway, Raymont A. Jackson of Atlanta, Ga., and Thomas I. Green of Gresham; a stepfather, Willie E. Dozier of Conway; five sisters, Willie Ann Smalls, Legailia Alford and Josephine Dozier, all of Conway, Deborah Witchens of Washington and Karla Jackson of Atlanta; six brothers, Charles T. Jackson of Myrtle Beach, Paul Jackson, Phillip Jackson, Jeffery Jackson, Michael Jackson and Vernon Jackson, all of Washington; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 tonight at Latimer's Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Soul Chapel AME Church, Gresham.

Mary E. Nangle

LITTLE RIVER — Mary E. Nangle, 77, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at Loris Hospital.

She was born Feb. 26, 1925, in Weymouth, Mass., a daughter of the late Robert and Bridget Burns. She was the widow of Charles J. Nangle.

She was a member of Brunswick Plantation and Golf Links and worked with the Camp Kemo Foundation.

Survivors include two daughters; Donnamarie Simpson of Little River and Karen Holt of Carpintria, Calif.; two sons, Craig Nangle of Las Vegas and Kyler Nangle of Baltimore; a brother, Allen Richard Burns, of Weymouth, Mass. and seven grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in North Myrtle Beach. The Father George Moynihan will officiate.

Burial will be private.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 316, Conway, SC 29526.

McMillan-Small Funeral Home is in charge.

Leon H. Patrick

LORIS — Leon Hallie Patrick, 83, died May 27, 2002, at Loris Healthcare System.

Survivors include a son, Serring Kennedy Patrick, of Shallotte, N.C.; two daughters, Pamela Patrick of Gaithersburg, Md., and Sandra Henderson; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister; a brother; and other relatives.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Second Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Ronnie McCray will officiate. Burial will be in Silent Grove Cemetery, Finklea Community, Loris. United Funeral Home is in charge.

Richard Petersen Sr.

CONWAY — Richard Eugene "Pete" Petersen Sr., 66, of West Homewood Rd., formerly of Murrells Inlet, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 27, 1936, in Manning, Iowa, and was raised in Nebraska, a son of the late Raymond C. and Gladys Miller Petersen LeRoy and stepson of George LeRoy.

He was an Air Force veteran. He was a member of the NRA.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie Petersen; a son, Richard E. "Gene" Petersen, Jr. and his wife, Viola, of Hersey, Neb.; two stepdaughters, Tammy Fowler of Myrtle Beach and Terri Schellhase of Gilman Ill.; his mother-in-law, Ruth Herring; four grandchildren and a great-grandson.

He was predeceased by a brother, LeRoy Petersen.

Visitation will be 7 to 9 tonight at Goldfinch Funeral Home, beach chapel.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be private.

Memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, S.C. Chapter, 1247 Lake Murray Blvd., Irmo, SC 29063.

Carolina Smith

McCOLL — Carolina Smith, 65, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002.

She was born April 14, 1937, in Patterson, N.J.

Survivors include her husband, Edward W. Smith Sr.; three sons, Robert Cook of North Myrtle Beach, Bruce Smith of McColl and Edward Smith Jr. of Elgin; a sister, Mable Massie, of Pensacola, Fla. and six grandchildren.

No service is planned.

Boles Funeral Home, Laurinburg is in charge.

Lewis H. Smith Jr.

GEORGETOWN — Lewis Hill Smith Jr., 79, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital after an illness.

He was born Jan. 16, 1923, in Greenwood County, a son of Louis Hill Smith and Mary DeLoach Smith.

He was a retired finishing plant supervisor of Riegel Textiles of Ware Shoals. He served in the infantry division of the Army and was a member of the First Assembly of God, Greenwood, where he formerly served as choir director, treasurer and men's fellowship president.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Mercer Smith; two sons, Lewis Hill Smith III of Andrews and William Douglas Smith of Donalds; a daughter, Phyllis Smith Massey, of Georgetown; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, the Rev. Jeb. D. Smith, and two sisters, Mary Ruth S. Timmerman and Rebecca S. Garvin.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at Georgetown Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday at First Assembly of God of Georgetown. Burial will be in the family cemetery. McKenzie Funeral Home Georgetown chapel is in charge.
