Cecilia Smoak

PACOLET — Cecilia Agnes McMahon Smoak, 99, of Glenn Springs Road, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital.

She was a native of Pacolet and a daughter of the late Patrick McMahon and Pearl Turner McMahon Hendrix.

She retired in 1970 as a department manager and buyer for Efird's Department Store. A gifted artist, she studied with a private tutor when living in North Carolina, as well as studying with the late James Buchanan of Spartanburg. She was a member of Pacolet United Methodist Church for 91 years and was pianist and soloist during her youth.

Survivors include two sons, John McMahon Smoak of Spartanburg and Harold Garland Smoak and his wife, Elaine, of Orange Beach, Ala.; a daughter, Miriam Smoak Henry, of Pacolet; three granddaughters, Cecilia Henry Mims and her husband, George, of Myrtle Beach, Cynthia Smoak Micci and her husband, Ken, of Memphis, Tenn.; and Katherine Smoak Eads and her husband, George, of Nashville, Tenn; two great-granddaughters, Miriam Elizabeth Mims of Washington, D.C. and Elizabeth Elaine Eads of Nashville; two great-grandsons, John Roland Mims of Myrtle Beach and Ian Benson King of Nashville; three nieces, Jeanette McMahon Williams of Atlanta, Susan Bramlett Brown of Union and Lyn Bramlett of Duncan; a nephew, Charles Johnson of Harlem, Ga.; and four cousins, Billie Turner Parker of Lake Oswego, Ore., Phoebe Turner Lambert of Pacolet, James H. Turner of Lodi, Calif., and Lannes Turner of Duncan.

She was predeceased by a brother, Harold Percy McMahon; two half sisters, Doris Hendrix Bramlett and Rebecca Hendrix Johnson and a nephew, George Johnson.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at the home, 121 Glenn Springs Road, Pacolet.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Pacolet United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jerry Brunson will officiate. Burial will be in Pacolet Methodist Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Pacolet Mills Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 545, Pacolet Mills, SC 29373 or any charity.

J.F. Floyd Mortuary, North Street Chapel, is in charge.

Edna L. Stephens

CLARENDON, N.C. — Edna L. Stephens, 91, died Tuesday, May 27, 2002, at home.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at Inman Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Tabor City.

Julia K. Wilcox

MYRTLE BEACH — Julia Kay Wilcox, 39, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at home after an illness.

She was the daughter of Larry and Kay Wilcox of Toledo, Ohio, and the wife of Eric Koepfler of Myrtle Beach.

She received a bachelor's degree with honors in biology from the University of Toledo and a master's degree in marine science from the College of William & Mary. She was an instructor of biology at Coastal Carolina University. She was a loving mother, wife, daughter and sister.

She was loving, kind, thoughtful and always worried about others, even in her last days. In the face of difficulties, she maintained a sense of humor and beautiful smile. The family asks that her memory be honored by remembrances of happy times spent with her.

Survivors, in addition to her husband and her parents, include a daughter, Allyson Koepfler; a son, Seth Koepfler; a brother, Geoffrey Wilcox; many grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins; and many friends and students who cherished her.

A memorial service will be later. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Lessie C. 'Eva' Allen

MULLINS — Lessie C. "Eva" Allen, 69, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at Marion County Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 2, 1933, in Dillon County, a daughter of the late William Sidney and Annie Turner Berry.

She was a homemaker and a member of Aynor Church of God.

Survivors include her husband, Culbert Allen; three daughters, Linda Faye Gerrald of Mullins, Tina Coleman of Interlachen, Fla., and Addie Mae Cook of Mullins; three sons, William Cook of Aynor, Ernest Cook Jr. of Mullins and Carlton Cook of Lake City; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; six brothers, David Berry of Baltimore, Doug Berry of Clairemont, Fla., Mack Berry of Bushnell, Fla., Curtis Berry of Bennettsville, Cecil Berry of Clairemont and Harold Berry of Bennettsville; three sisters, Lottie Mae Sweat of Bennettsville, Joyce Berry of Concord, N.C., and Ruth Williams of Bennettsville.

She was predeceased by two daughters, Annie Mae Cook and Virginia Darnell Cook; a brother, J.D. Berry; and a sister, Trusla Berry.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at Cox-Collins Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Aynor Church of God. The Rev. Jerry Love will officiate. Burial will be in Cook Family Cemetery.

Robert 'Bob' Bank

MYRTLE BEACH — Robert "Bob" Bank, 80, of Myrtle Beach Golf and Yacht Club, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at an Anderson Area Medical Center after an illness.

He was born Sept. 2, 1921, in New Rochelle, N.Y., a son of the late Henry and Louise Bobb Bank.

He was a veteran of the sixth Marine division and served from 1937 to 1945. He served in Cuba, Guadalcanal, Guam and Okinawa. He was an entrepreneur in various food industries. His life's vocation was coaching youth sports and culminated in a career with Eastern Military Academy as athletic director. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1986 and moved to Myrtle Beach to enjoy his primary hobby of golf. He was a founding member of the St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church, where he initiated youth sports programs. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved all animals, especially Oscar and Smokey.

Survivors include his wife, Trudy Bank; two daughters, Linda Stekelenburg of Cleveland, and Kimberley Heilig of New York; a son, Casey Bank and his wife, Pamela, of Huntington, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Robert and Melissa Heilig, Jan and Mieke Stekelenburg, Edward Straus and Michael Bank.

He was predeceased by a brother, George Bank, and a grandson, Christian Stekelenburg.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Michael Catholic Church.

Memorials may be made to Grand Strand Human Society, P.O. Box 621, Myrtle Beach, SC 29578.

Grand Strand Funeral Home is in charge.

Lucy V. Edwards

GEORGETOWN — Lucy Vanderhorst Edwards, 82, died Sunday, May 26, 2002.

Survivors include a daughter, Luthenia Gardens; a grandson, Arthur Edwards; a sister, Cynthia Parker; and a brother, David Brown.

The funeral was Thursday. Burial was in Nazareth AME Church.

Wilds Funeral Home is in charge.
