Roy Darby, Jr.

COLUMBIA — Graveside service for Roy Otto Darby, Jr., 78, will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Trenholm Road United Methodist Church or the SPCA. Visitation will be Tuesday 7-9 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.

Mr. Darby, husband of the late Jane Loyal Darby, died Saturday, October 23, 2004. Born in Union Springs, Ala., he was a son of the late Roy O. Darby, Sr. and Frances Thompson Darby. A Navy veteran of WW II, he was a member of Trenholm Road United Methodist Church.

Surviving are sons, Loyal Thompson Darby and his wife, Bonnie, of Kansas City, Mo. and Roy Otto Darby III and his wife, Amy, of Beaufort; brother, Ernest W. Darby of South Port, N.C.; sister, Fran D. Jenkins of Columbia; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Shannantia Hopkins

PEYTON, Colo. — A graveside service for Shannantia Atoya Hopkins, 16, is 2 p.m. Tuesday in Greenwood Shores Baptist Church Cemetery, Ninety Six, S.C. Blyth Funeral Home, Greenwood, S.C., is in charge. Born in Colorado Springs to Brent Hopkins and Wonda Lambert, she died Oct. 19, 2004. Surviving: parents; stepfather, Harold Lambert; sister, Amoria Brown; grandparents, Irvin, Mary Williams.

Kevin Jones

COLUMBIA — Services for Kevin Markieth Jones, 41, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Wesley UMC with burial in Palmetto Cemetery. Palmer Memorial Chapel is in charge. Born in Columbia to Charlie and Erlene Hodges Jones, he died October 22, 2004. He was employed with Sears. Surviving are mother; sisters, Valarie Brooks, Charmaine Sims; brother, Anthony Jones; grandmother, Lillie Jones.

Frances Levine

SUMTER — Services for Frances Ann Levine, 51, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church with burial in Mulberry Baptist Church. Williams Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Sumter Co. to David and Early Mae Winn, she died Oct. 21, 2004. Surviving are children, Corey, Latasha Pringle; siblings, David, Henry, Harry, George Winn, Eliza Jefferson, Laura Sharpe; two grandchildren.

Claudine Lewis

ABBEVILLE — A graveside service for Bessie Claudine Lewis, 70, widow of John Lewis, is 11 a.m. Tuesday in Bells UMC Cemetery. Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Harley Funeral Home. Born in Anderson to Claude and Bessie Parnell Sanders, she died Oct. 23, 2004. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church. Surviving are daughters, Vickie Stevens, Jo Morris, Sharon Fields; sister, Joyce Hyman; 13 grands; 18 great-grandchildren.

Carolyn Mackey

LANCASTER — A graveside service for Carolyn Edelle Wood Mackey, 54, will be held at noon today in Lancaster Memorial Park. Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel is in charge. Born in Lancaster to Frank Sr. and Helen Jordan Wood, she died Oct. 23, 2004. Surviving are husband, Billy Mackey; sons, Bryan, Joey Wood; daughters, Samatha Stogner, Stacy Altman; father; brother, Frank Wood Jr.; 5 grandchildren.

Katherine McLeod

SUMTER — Services for Katherine “Kitty” Clark Chewning McLeod, 75, widow of Lee McLeod, are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Westside Baptist Church; burial: Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation: 7-9 tonight at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home. Born in Sumter to Leland and Alma Chewning and Walter and Agnes Clark, she died Oct. 23, 2004. Surviving: 4 children; 4 siblings; 9 grands; 2 great-grandchildren.

Kenny Moore

IRMO — A memorial service for Kenneth Lee “Kenny” Moore, 47, will be held Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Eastlake Community Church. Memorials may be made to Eastlake Community Church Memorial Fund for Kenny Moore or contributions may be made to The Moore Boys Education Fund, c/o of the family. Visitation will be Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel.

Kenny Lee died Saturday, October 23, 2004. Born in Port Arthur, Texas , he was a son of Margaret Cox Moore and the late Walter Moore. He was employed with Construction Dynamics, Inc. and was a member of Eastlake Community Church.

Kenny Lee was a good man. He was a hard working man and a man of great faith.

A loving and dedicated father and husband, he is survived by his wife, Michelle R. Moore; sons, Terry of Port Arthur, Texas , Grant (ten), Houston (four) and Walker Moore (seven months), all of the home; his mother of Marion, Tex.; three sisters; and four brothers.

Patsy Oliver

PAGELAND — Services and burial for Patsy Threatt Oliver, 56, will be held at 4 p.m. (visitation 3-4 p.m.) today at Providence Baptist Church. Sutton Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Pageland to Hayde and Agnes G. Threatt, she died October 23, 2004. She was a homemaker. Surviving are sons, Eddie, Carl, Jeffery Snyder; sisters, Marlene McCauley, Delaine Ivey; five grandchildren.

Luther Poston

RUBY — Services and burial for Luther Weldon Poston, 81, are 3 p.m. (visitation 1-3 p.m.) Tuesday at Thompson Creek Baptist Church. Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, Chesterfield, is in charge. Born in Chesterfield Co. to Samuel and Roxie Burr Poston, he died Oct. 24, 2004. Surviving are wife, Betty Oliver Poston; son, Larry Poston; daughters, Gail Johnson, Lori Sikes, Jennifer Hatchel; six grandchildren.

George Rhodes

LORIS — Services for George “Bill” Willard Rhodes, 71, are 2 p.m. Tuesday (visitation 7-9 tonight) at Hardwick Funeral Home with burial in Old Springfield Cemetery. Born in Estill to George and Mable Butler Rhodes, he died Oct. 24, 2004. He was a member of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church. Surviving: wife, Shirley Strickland Rhodes; children, Wendell, John Rhodes, Nicole Boyd; six siblings; six grandchildren.

Mae Riley

WALTERBORO — Services for Mae G. Ackerman Riley, 81, widow of Nelson Ackerman and Thomas Riley, are 4 p.m. (visitation 3 p.m.) Monday at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home; burial: Ackerman Cemetery, near Cottageville. Born in West Homestead, Pa. to Archie and Elizabeth Graham, she died Oct. 23, 2004. Surviving: children, Robert Ackerman, Ella Bowers, Peggy Hudson; 5 grands; 4 great-grandchildren.

James Robinson

LEESVILLE — Mr. James D. Robinson, of Hampton Terrace, died October 21, 2004 in Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Friendship Baptist Church, Leesville, SC with interment in the church cemetery and the Rev. James A. Duncan officiating. Amos & Sons Funeral Home, Batesburg-Leesville, is in charge.

Surviving are his wife, Veronica Robinson, of the home; two children, Sherry (Odell) Sumpter, Irmo, SC, James D. (Brandy) Robinson Jr., Columbia; three sisters, Juanita Robinson, Batesburg, SC, Doris Simpkins, Batesburg, SC, Leona (Obie) Coombs, Saluda, SC; two brothers, Carl Robinson, Batesburg, SC, Moses Robinson, Batesbug, SC; his mother, Laura Mae Robinson, Leesville, SC; a grandchild, Jamie Sumpter, Irmo, SC; a sister-in-law, Josephine Robinson, Leesville, SC.

Lee Schirm

COLUMBIA — A Memorial Service for Lee Robert Schirm, 66, will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Spring Valley Presbyterian Church. His family will receive friends following the service at the church. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel is assisting the family.

Mr. Schirm died Saturday, October 23, 2004, at home. Born January 8, 1938 in Vinton, Iowa, he was the son of the late Clarence George and Opal Darnell Schirm. He graduated from the U. S. Air Force Aviation Cadets in 1959 and served as a navigator-bombardier on the B-47 in the Strategic Air Command. He was also a navigator on a C-141 and an aircraft maintenance officer. He served in the Air Force and Reserves for twenty-two years and retired in 1981 as a Lt. Colonel. He was a member of the Air Force Association, Northeast Kiwanis, the National Association of CPA’s and the Central Chapter of CPA’s. He was a member of Spring Valley Presbyterian Church and served on the Finance and the Endowment Committees.

Mr. Schirm received his Bachelor of Science and Masters of Accountancy Degrees from the University of South Carolina. He was a Certified Public Accountant in Columbia and retired from the South Carolina Department of Revenue.

Mr. Schirm is survived by his wife, Sallie Derham Schirm of Columbia; daughters and their husbands; Cynthia Schirm and Jay A. Hudson of Goose Creek, Carol Schirm and Keller Russell of Camp Pendleton, Calif., sister and husband, Delores Schirm and David Williams of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Three grandchildren also survive him: Hillary Derham Hudson, Laura Caroline Hudson and Sarah Ann Russell. His family also includes in-laws; Tom and Clare Fincher of Chapin, Clarence and Sue Hopke of Columbia, John and Sharon Derham of Chapin, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Senior Endowment of Spring Valley Presbyterian Church or to Hospice Care Tri-County, 166 Stonebridge Drive, Suite 100, Columbia, SC 29210.

John Sease

BAMBERG — Services for John R. Sease, 73, will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Gethsamane Baptist Church with burial in Black Cemetery and visitation to follow. Carroll Mortuary is in charge. Born in Bamberg Co. to Malcolm and Virginia Sease, he died Oct. 22, 2004. Surviving are wife, Emma McMillan; children, Virginia Smith, Shirley Gass, Susan, Emma, Robert, Amos, William Sease; 7 grands; 10 siblings.

Nina Shetley

BUFFALO — Services for Nina Pearl Scott Shetley, 72, widow of Donald Shetley, are 3 p.m. today at Buffalo UMC, where she was a member, with burial in Rosemont Cemetery. S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home, Union, is in charge. Born in Jonesville to Samuel and Elozia Laws Scott, she died Oct. 23, 2004. Surviving are sons, Jesse,, Ernest Vinson, Timothy, Donald Shetley II; five grands; one great-grand; one brother.

Bobby Smith

YORK — Services for Bobby William Smith, 53, are 11 a.m. Tuesday (visitation 6-8 tonight) at Bratton Funeral Home with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Born in York to Herman and Ora Dillingham Smith, he died Oct. 23, 2004. Surviving are spouse, Ruth Smith; children, Colin, Christopher Smith, Tiffany Boone; stepchildren, Christopher, John Smith, Tess Gagan, Julie Craven; three siblings; 12 grandchildren.

Brandon Ward

FLORENCE — Services for Brandon Eugene Ward, 21, are 2 p.m. Tuesday (visitation 6-8 tonight) at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home, Timmonsville; burial in Byrd Cemetery, Timmonsville. Born in Florence to Mitchell Ward and Arlene Jeffords McMullen, he died Oct. 23, 2004. Surviving are parents; sister, Elizabeth Ward; grandparents, Marion and Delores Jeffords, Howard and Willa Ward; aunts; uncles; cousins.
