Frances Wallace

VIRGINIA BEACH — Frances Newman Wallace, 95, passed away on December 25, 2004. Mrs. Wallace was born on March 29, 1909, to the late William C and Ann Sydnor Newman. She was the wife of the late K.K. Wallace, Sr. Mrs. Wallace was a graduate of Longwood College, and a longtime resident of Norfolk. She was very active in St. Andrews Church, as well as the Auxiliary at Leigh Memorial Hospital and The King’s Daughters.

Survivors include two sons, K.K. Wallace, Jr. of Charlottesville, VA, and James E.B. Wallace of Columbia, SC, a daughter, Ann Wallace Barner of Virginia Beach, VA, Ten grandchildren, and Sixteen Great Grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Norfolk on Tuesday December 28, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. by the Rev. Catherine W. Swann.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 1009 Graydon Ave, Norfolk, VA 23507.

Daphyne Watkins

LUGOFF — Funeral services for Daphyne “Pat” Boswell Watkins, 64, of Lugoff, will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at Harvest Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery in Hartsville. Pastor Bill Dulaney will preside. Pastor Gregory Sweet will deliver the eulogy. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday, December 27, 2004 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Hospice Care of Tri-County, 2209 West DeKalb.

Dale Waters

LEESVILLE — Services for Larry Dale “Pop” Waters, 56, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Frank Mims officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Barr-Price Funeral Home, Historic B-L Chapel. Memorials may be made to Providence Baptist Church, 3708 Pond Branch Road, Leesville, SC 29070 or to the American Heart Assoc., P.O. Box 6604, Columbia, SC 29260.

Mr. Waters died Saturday. Born in Lexington County, he was a son of the late Welton Eugene Waters, Sr. and Lois Cockrell Waters. He was formerly employed with Farmer’s Livestock, Leesville, was a farmer and was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving are his siblings, Cynthia Baughman and Terry Waters, both of Batesburg, Michael Waters of TX, Marilyn Waters, Dorothy Mullins, Jean Frick, all of Leesville, Lois Yonce and Mary Kinard, both of Ridge Spring. He was predeceased by siblings, Welton E. Waters, Jr. and Linda G. Waters.

Mildred Welch

SENECA — Mildred Ethel Hall Welch, 87, resided with a daughter, Judy and husband, Steve Sams at 1415 N. Woodbury Drive, died Saturday, December 25, 2004 at the residence. She was born March 12, 1917 in Columbia, S.C. and the daughter of the late Major James and Ruth Ethel Browder Hall. She was also preceded by her husband, Ray W. Welch, Sr.; a brother, James Hall, and two sisters, Dot H. Boan and Faye Hall.

She was a graduate of Olympia High School, class of 1934 in Columbia, S.C., grew up in Southside Baptist Church of Columbia, S.C., former member of Berea Baptist Church of Greenville, S.C., was a member of Bountyland Baptist Church of Seneca, S.C., and member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #5 of Seneca. She was owner and operator of Oconee Inn in Seneca, S.C. with her late husband, and retired from Judson Mills of Greenville, and owner of Welch’s Mobile Home Park.

She is survived by a son, Ray W. Welch, Jr. of Easley, S.C.; three daughters, Judy W. and husband, Steve Sams, of Seneca, Lynn W. and husband, Buck Hooper, of Greenville, and Joyce W. and husband, Michael McCarson of Columbia; a brother, Jack M. Hall of Clearmont, Fla.; two sisters, Gwynn H. Barfield and Betty Hall, both of Elgin, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Stephen and Gavin Sams, Jack and Ryan McCarson, Tripp Welch, Stephanie Page, and Brentley Reeves, and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at 2:00 PM at the Brown-Oglesby Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bill Ellison officiating, with burial to follow in the Oconee Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday prior to the service from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at the funeral home. The family will be at the home at other times.

Brown-Oglesby Funeral Home of Seneca, S.C. is in charge of arrangements.

Frank Brooks Sr.

ORANGEBURG — Frank Edward Brooks Sr., 84, of 1347 Middle Pen Road, Orangeburg, SC, died Sunday morning, Dec. 26, 2004, in Orangeburg.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 28, 2004, in Memorial Park Cemetery, in Orangeburg, with the Rev. Julian Ford and the Rev. Butch Farnum officiating. Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg is in charge.

He was born February 21, 1920, in Grahamsville, NY. He was the son of the late Frank Brooks and the late Alice Many Brooks. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. He was a retired owner operator of Carolina Pet Supply and was a farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy M. Brooks and a child that he raised, Patrick Henry.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Bert (Sue) Zeigler and Ms. Lu Erin Brooks, both of Orangeburg; two sons and daughter-in-laws, George Robert Brooks and Dixie Brooks of Orangeburg, Frank Edward (Ted) Brooks Jr. and Julia Brooks of Cope; children raised in the home, Carolyn Kleemoff of Columbia, SC, Harry Decker and Maureen Anderson, both of Orangeburg; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three nephews.

Friends may call at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society (SC Division) 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210 or to Hospice of T.R.M.C.; 1324 Hutto Street, Orangeburg, SC 29118 or to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 1356 Amelia Street, Orangeburg, SC 29115.

Katherine Conard

UNION — Services for Katherine Hollifield Conard, 63, widow of Edward Conard, are 2 p.m. (viewing 1 p.m.) Tuesday at Lockhart First Baptist Church; burial in Lockhart Cemetery. Visitation is 7-9 tonight at S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. Born in Asheville, N.C. to Oscar and Eloise Wallen Hollifield, she died Dec. 25, 2004. Surviving are children, Roxanne Lee, Joey Conard; four siblings; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

George Cook

DALZELL — Services for George William “Billy” Cook, 75, are 2 p.m. Tuesday (visitation 6-8 tonight) at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory, Sumter; burial in Providence Southern Methodist Church. Born in Toccoa, Ga. to Jessie and Henrietta Cook, he died Dec. 25, 2004. Surviving: wife, Betty Cook; children, Carey Cook, Sheryl Tidwell, Suzanne Hallman; 4 siblings; 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren.

Malachi Blandon Sr.

ST. STEPHEN — Services for Malachi W. Blandon Sr. are 1 p.m. today at Good Shepherd Reformed Episcopal Church. Gethers Funeral Home, Moncks Corner, is in charge. Born in Berkeley Co. to James and Wilhelmena Blandon, he died Dec. 22, 2004. Surviving: wife, Ida Blandon; children, Edna Green, Malachi Jr., Henry, Jacqueline Blandon; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Retha Bradford, Henry Dawson.

Raiford Dorn

BELVEDERE — A graveside service for Raiford Eugene Dorn, 73, will be held at 3 p.m. in Pineview Memorial Park. Visitation is 1:30-2:30 this afternoon at Rowland Funeral Home, North Augusta. Born in Edgefield Co., he died Dec. 24, 2004. He was a member of Red Oak Grove Baptist Church, and had retired with Johnson Motor Company. Surviving are brother, A.H. Dorn; sister, Opal Thompson; nieces; nephews.

E.H. Durgin Jr.

ORANGEBURG — Edmund Horace “Ed” Durgin Jr., 82, died Saturday evening, Dec. 25, 2004, at Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.

Services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday at Orangeburg Lutheran Church with Pastor John Thompson officiating. Entombment will take place in Good Shepherd Mausoleum in Crestlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jimmy Lane, Hyde Smith, Ralph Goolsby, R.L. Zeigler, Ricky Jones, and Teddy Garrick.

Mr. Durgin was born in Nahuel Huapi, Argentina a son of E.H. and Henriette Robert Durgin. He formerly worked with the FBI in El Paso, Texas . At the outbreak of WWII, he joined the U.S. Navy and was a combat veteran serving aboard the submarine USS Ling in the North Atlantic. After his discharge from active duty he married his devoted wife of 57 years and moved to South Carolina. He joined US Plywood Corp, and retired from Champion Wood Products after many years of service.

He was a member of Orangeburg Lutheran Church and a former member of the Orangeburg Lions Club and the Orangeburg Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors: His wife, Mrs. Janet Collier Durgin, of the home; son, Edmund Davis Durgin, of Orangeburg; two daughters, Mrs. Bill (Andr’ee) Wannamaker, of Columbia, Mrs. David (Sue) Graham, of Lugoff; sister, Mrs. James (Marinette) Kubeck, of Topango Canyon, Ca.; six grandchildren, Dave Durgin and Joe Durgin, of Orangeburg, Kelly Murphy, Johns Island, and Kristi Wannamaker, of Mt. Pleasant, Chris Graham, of Camden and Aimee Graham, of Lugoff; a great-grandson, Braxton Reeves, of Camden; and by a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Orangeburg Lutheran Church, 610 Ellis St., Orangeburg, SC 29115 or the American Lung Association.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Monday at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home.

Howard Griffin

GREENWOOD — A graveside service for Howard “Bike” Griffin, 87, a U.S. Navy veteran, is 1 this afternoon in Greenwood Memorial Gardens with visitation to follow. Blyth Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Greenwood Co. to James and Nancy Fuller Griffin, he died Dec. 25, 2004. He was the last member of his immediate family, and a member of West Side Baptist Church. Surviving are nieces and nephews.

Robert McCree

ORANGEBURG — Services for Robert Tyrone “Tee” McCree, 43, are 2 p.m. (viewing 1 p.m.) Tuesday at Pecan Grove Seventh-Day Adventist Church; burial in New Beginning UMC Cemetery, Norway. Visitation is 11-9 tonight at Simmons Funeral Home. Born in Orangeburg Co. to Minnie Gardner, he died Dec. 21, 2002. Surviving: mother; godfather, Esau Isaac; sons, Andros, Kendall, Tyrell Benjamin; 5 siblings; others.
