Thomas M. Moore

LORIS -- Thomas Michael Moore, 35, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, in Wrangell, Alaska.

Arrangements will be announced by Hardwick Funeral Home of Loris.

Marion S. Perry

MYRTLE BEACH -- Marion Adell Smith Perry, 83, founder of Lakewood Camping Resort and Lakewood Campground Ministry, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at home after an illness.

She was born Feb. 13, 1919, in Columbia, a daughter of the late Ernest Elvin Smith and Guthrie Powell Smith.

She was the widow of Carl Edward Perry.

She attended Draughn's School of Business in Columbia and partnered with her husband in the development of Beachwood Estates Mobilehome Park and opened the first privately owned campground on the Grand Strand in 1959, Camp Beachwood, across from Myrtle Beach State Park. They developed Lakewood Camping Resort in 1961 and The Lighthouse theme park in Myrtle Beach, as well as Lakewood South and Lakewood East campgrounds in the Orlando, Fla., area.

She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Lake City Garden Club and the Archibald Rutledge Book Club.

She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach, where she taught Sunday school to 8-year-olds for more than 35 years through the use of flannel graph stories. She also taught Girls in Action and taught Vacation Bible School. She was also a member of the Women's Missionary Union and Christian Women's Club, and was an original founding board member for Child Evangelism in Myrtle Beach. She taught "Good News" clubs at Beachwood for years and was a dedicated supporter for many mission projects and missionaries around the world.

She will be missed not only by her family and friends, but also by the many children whom she taught to love Jesus.

Survivors include a son, Donald E. Perry Sr. and his wife, Angela, of Surfside Beach; two daughters, Barbara P. Benton and her husband, Marion, of Murrells Inlet and Shannon P. Arnette and her husband, Glenn, of Orlando; a daughter-in-law, Gail V. Perry of Myrtle Beach; 10 grandchildren, Don E. Perry II and his wife, Jenny, of Myrtle Beach, Blayne Perry and his wife, Buffy, of New York City, Tony Perry and his wife, Rhonda, of Surfside Beach, Paul Perry and his wife, Joy, of Myrtle Beach, Karla P. Mauldin and her husband, Brian, of Surfside Beach, Laura Jones and Grayson Jones of Myrtle Beach, Ryann Jones of Surfside Beach, Jessica Jones Cox and her husband, Reid, of Murrells Inlet and Shannon Benton of Murrells Inlet; two stepgranddaughters, Natali Benton of Mount Pleasant and Allie Benton Finotti and her husband, Nick, of Rock Hill; an honorary granddaughter, Melanie Abston; 13 great-grandchildren, Anthony Perry, Austin Perry, Carlton Perry, Courtney Mauldin, Eric Perry, Taylor Perry, Abigail Perry, Brennan Perry, Christian Perry, Zachary Perry, Phillip Mauldin, Jackson Jones and Elijah Cox; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Halie and Micah Finotti; three brothers, Allen Smith and his wife, Carrie, of Cayce, Simon Smith and his wife, Darnelle, of Georgetown and Sam Smith of Georgetown; three sisters, Virginia Smith of Charleston, Doris Chancey and her husband, Ned, of Niceville, Fla., and Ernestine Irving and her husband, Leroy, of Georgetown; three sisters-in-law, Margaret Smith of Columbia, Helen Smith of Georgetown and Jessie Perry of Mobile, Ala.; and a brother-in-law, Fred Perry of Lake City.

She was predeceased by four brothers, Elvin Smith, Perry Smith, David Smith, Billy Joe Smith; two sisters, Dell Richards and Marilda Peeples; and a son, Phillip Edward Perry.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 tonight at McMillan-Small Funeral Home in Myrtle Beach.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Myrtle Beach. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery on S.C. 544 in Conway.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Budget Fund, 500 Fourth Ave. N., Myrtle Beach, SC 29577; or to Lakewood Campground Ministry, Missionary Fund, 5901 S. Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach, SC 29576.

Ralph R. Porter

ANDREWS -- Ralph R. Porter, 79, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at home.

He was born April 10, 1923, in Georgetown County, a son of the late William Joseph Porter and Etta Rogerson Porter.

He was retired from International Paper Container Division. He was also a World War II Air Force veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Mary M. Porter; a son, Bill Porter of Andrews; a daughter, Gail Pierce of Andrews; a sister, Anna Hatcher of Georgetown; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Graham Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Ashley M. Ray

LAUREL HILL, N.C. -- Ashley Monroe Ray, 93, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at home after an illness.

He was born Oct. 27, 1909, in Loris, a son of the late Simon Monroe Ray and Freddie Alford Ray.

He was the widower of Margaret Blanche Graham.

He worked in the textile industry and was a member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, B.W. Ray of North Myrtle Beach; two daughters, Helen Chestnut of Fayetteville, N.C., and Willadean Brock of Summerton; a sister, Zillie Pridgen of Loris; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Hardwick Funeral Home in Loris.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Hardwick Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Don Malpas and the Rev. Jack Rowan will officiate. Burial will be in Lake Swamp Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Laurel Hill Baptist Church, P.O. Box 367, Laurel Hill, N.C. 28351.

Laura 'Bit' Richburg

LORIS -- Laura "Bit" Richburg, 44, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at Loris Healthcare System.

She was the wife of Legrant Richburg Sr.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna and Shainnia Herring of Loris; a son, Lary Harring of Loris; three stepdaughters; two stepsons; and 15 grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Silent Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Finklea. The Rev. John D. Floyd will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

United Funeral Home of Loris is in charge.

Joseph Selinsky

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Joseph Selinsky, 74, formerly of Myrtle Beach, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003.

Survivors include five children, Isabel Witucki, Alice Asbury, Bill Selinsky, Judy Rogers and Joe Selinsky; four grandchildren, Jason and John Asbury and Jesse and Corrie Rogers; and many friends.

A memorial service will be at a later date.

Charter Funeral Home of Calera, Ala., is in charge.
