Welford E. Whitcomb

MURRELLS INLET -- Welford Earl Whitcomb, 75, of Inlet Oaks Village, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at Waccamaw Community Hospital.

He was born April 11, 1927, in Salem, Ohio, a son of the late Hampson and Alda Ripple Whitcomb.

He was an avid bowler and Navy veteran. He was of the Presbyterian faith.

Survivors include his wife, LaVonna Baker Whitcomb; three sons, Earl Whitcomb of California, Bruce Whitcomb and Tim Whitcomb, both of Ohio; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be private.

Goldfinch Funeral Home, beach chapel, is in charge.

Guy S. Williams Jr.

SHALLOTTE, N.C. -- Guy Sterling Williams Jr., 82, of Autumn Care, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003.

Arrangements will be announced by Brunswick Funeral Service and Crematory in Shallotte, N.C.

Gladys M. Willis

LONGS -- Gladys Marie Willis, 67, of Monaca Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

She was born May 12, 1935, in Dickenson County, Va., a daughter of the late Elbert and Ethyle Ramey Phipps.

Survivors include her husband, Amos Willis; four sons, Bana A. Willis of Haysi, Va., Mark A. Willis of Myrtle Beach, Keith Willis of Bristol, Tenn., and Patrick Willis of Myrtle Beach; two brothers, George Phipps of Richmond, Va., and Dean Phipps of Haysi; two sisters, Elsie Musick of Rosedale, Va., and Louise of Canton, Ohio; and five grandchildren, Jessica, Lynettee, Josh, Andrew and Burke.

The funeral will be in Haysi.

Grand Strand Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge.

Rosa G. Bellamy

LITTLE RIVER -- Rosa Green Bellamy, 89, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at Conway Nursing Center after an illness.

She was born in Wampee, a daughter of the late Joseph and Louise Green.

She was a member of St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a deaconess, church school teacher and member of the Missionary Society.

Survivors include a daughter, Wilhelmena Freeman and her husband, Gilbert; two sons, Alfred Bellamy and his wife, Ester, and James A. Bellamy and his wife, Virginia; a son-in-lae, Johnny A. Edge; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Latimer's Funeral Home in Conway is in charge.

William T. 'Tom' Cartrette

LORIS -- William Thomas "Tom" Cartrette, 78, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at Loris Community Hospital after an illness.

He was born May 24, 1924, in Loris, a son of the late William Thomas Cartrette Sr.

He was the widower of Edith Floyd Cartrette.

He was a Navy veteran, after which he worked with the state as a mechanic until his retirement. He was also a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Cartrette and his wife, Mary, of Charleston and Gary Cartrette and his wife, Alison, of Fair Bluff, N.C.; two daughters, Sylvia Dillon and her husband, Jay, of Goose Creek and Terry Lynn Tindall of Loris; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Saturday at Hardwick Funeral Home in Loris.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Mount Zion Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Rev. David Watts will officiate.

Memorials may be made to Mount Zion Baptist Church, 2610 Mount Zion Road, Loris, SC 29569.

Carol S. Catlett

CONWAY -- Carol Sue Catlett, 59, wife of Edmond Catlett Jr., died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at home.

Arrangements will be announced by McMillan-Small Funeral Home in Myrtle Beach.

Allean Commedo

LAKE VIEW -- Allean Commedo died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at St. Eugene Hospital in Dillon.

Arrangements will be announced by Troy's Funeral Home in Mullins.

Eloise Cooper

GEORGETOWN -- Eloise Antwine Baxley Cooper, 74, wife of James M. Cooper, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003.

She was born in Andrews, a daughter of the late Benjamin Thomas and Margaret Howell Antwine.

She was retired from Tupperware and was a member of First Baptist Church of Georgetown.

She was first married to the late Carey Baxley Sr.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include her children Glenda Hogan and her husband, Mickey, of Lilburn, Ga., Barbara Yawn of Doraville, Ga., Carey Baxley and his wife, Carolyn, and Margaret Harder Baxley and her husband, James, all of Summerville, Tommy Baxley of Georgetown, Caren Hersey and her husband, Mike, of Jacksonville, Fla., Sandy Baxley of Jasper, Ga.; a brother, Winston Antwine of Georgetown; three sisters, Ruth Hughes of Charleston, Hattie Mae Connelly of Andrews and Lucille Ensminger of Hilton Head; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Morris Funeral Home in Hemingway.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Georgetown First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
