Eddie W. Matheson

MEBANE, N.C. -- Eddie Wilson Matheson, 86, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003 at the Presbyterian Home of Hawfields. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26 at Presbyterian Home of the Hawfields.

Paul F. O'Brien

CONWAY -- Paul Francis O'Brien, 65, of Conway died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003 after an extended illness.

Mr. O'Brien was born Sept. 8, 1938 in Boston, Massachusetts. He grew up in Newton and was a 1957 graduate from Newton High School. He was a mechanical engineer and was retired from Unitrode Corporation in Watertown, Ma. before moving to Conway.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife Katherine of Conway, S.C, his six children; Susan Benes of Newton, Ma, Paul O'Brien Jr. of Newton, Ma, Laura Gleim of North Grovesnordale, Conn., Colleen Hebert of Derry, N.H., Terrence O'Brien of Nashua, N.H., and Erin Ishmael of Seabrook N.H.; his thirteen grandchildren; two sisters and one brother; Maureen Fessenden of Falmouth, Ma, Stephen O'Brien Jr., of Newton, Ma, and Margaret O'Brien of Sudbury Ma.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday Sept. 27 at 10:00 a.m. at the Calvary Chapel. (Located in the Big Deals Flea Market, Highway # 501, across from Carolina Forest. The church telephone number is 903-3534)

Arrangements were made by Grand Strand Funeral Home and Crematory, Myrtle Beach, S.C., 650-3028.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mercy Hospice of Horry County, P.O. Box 50640, Myrtle Beach, S.C. 29579.

Earnest E. Paugh

CONWAY -- Earnest Edison Paugh, 81, of Creel Street, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003 at Georgetown Hospital.

He was born May 19, 1922 in Ohio.

Before retiring, Mr. Paugh worked as an exterminator.

Surviving is one special friend, Elizabeth Woolston of Conway.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 at Palmetto Funeral Home. Palmetto Funeral Home of Conway is directing the service.

Jorden Pyecha

LITTLE RIVER -- Jorden Pyecha, 17, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003. Arrangements will be announced by Lee Funeral Home and Crematory of Little River/North Myrtle Beach.

Bruce T. Rush

FORT MILL -- Bruce T. Rush, 56, of 900 Nauvasse Trail, Fort Mill, passed away Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, at Carolinas Medical Center.

Born Nov. 15, 1946 in Camden, S.C., Mr. Rush was a son of Bert and Milwee Rush of Camden. He was a 1965 graduate of Camden High School. He received his bachelor of science and masters degrees in Recreation and Park Administration from Clemson University in 1969 and 1974. He served in the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant Infantry Advisor in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star in 1971. He was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church, he served as an elder and Sunday school teacher. Mr. Rush began his affiliation with Leroy Springs & Company, Inc. in 1968 at Springs Park. After completing his masters degree in 1974, he became general manager of Springmaid Beach. On Jan. 1, 1997, he assumed the duties of President and CEO of Leroy Springs & Company, Inc. and was elected to the Board of Directors.

An active in the community, he was a member of the Board of Directors for Harry Hampton Memorial Wildlife Fund, the Catawba River Task Force, Nation Ford Land Trust, and the Fort Mill Chamber of Commerce. He also was a member of National Recreation and Park Association, S.C. Recreation and Park Association, and American Institute of Park Executives. He helped host the Green Gala, served on the York County Accommodations Tax Commission, Success by Six, and the United Way. He was a member and Sergeant-at-Arms of Rotary International, where he was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow, and was the 1999 Fort Mill Rotarian of the Year. Mr. Rush's company related affiliations included: Friends of the Anne Springs Close Greenway; which included the Prairie Project, and the John Deere Association. He was associated with Good Folks and the Boys and Girls Clubs. Mr. Rush was instrumental in developing the Elderhostel program at Springmaid Beach and also served on the Horry County School Board for five years.

In addition to his parents, Bruce is survived by his wife, Toni Higgins Rush (formerly of Great Falls); two sons, Jason Rush of San Diego, Calif. and Ryan Rush of Myrtle Beach; his brothers; Matt Rush of Camden, Barry Rush of Orlando, Fla. and Scott Rush of Mt. Pleasant; and his sister, Feryl R. Holley of Alton, Mo.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003 at Unity Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Dan Holloway, Rev. Jeannie Bickett and Dr. Robert C. Wilkes officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003 at the Anne Springs Close Greenway Dairy Barn on Hwy. 21 Business in Fort Mill.

Alexander Sapinsky

LORIS -- Alexander Sapinsky, 76, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003 at his home following an illness. Arrangements will be announced by Hardwick Funeral Home.

Magline H. Smith

CONWAY -- Magline Harding Smith, 81, of Highway 90, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003 at her residence following an illness.

She was born in Bolden, N.C. on Oct. 3, 1921, a daughter of the late Allen and Darcas McCumbee Harding.

Mrs. Smith was employed at AVX of Myrtle Beach. She was a member of New Life Freewill Baptist Church. She was a loving and giving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother.

Mrs. Smith is survived by a daughter Brittie (Elmer) Miller of the home; seven sons, James (Rita), Clinton (Betty), Mill (Barbara), Richard (Barbara), Hoyt, Heyward (Bonnie), and Randell (Rachel) Smith, all of Conway; one sister, Ruby Conner of Chadburn, N.C.; a brother, Hubert Harding of Lafayette, La.; 29 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, James Edison Smith; three sisters, Pearl Conners, Agnes Todd, and M.C. Suggs; and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25 at New Life Freewill Baptist Church with burial following at Willow Springs Campground Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 24 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Conway Funeral Services, 3304 4th Ave., Conway.

Memorials may be made to New Life Freewill Baptist Church, 3620 Wayside Road, Conway, S.C. 29527.

Henry Wilson

GEORGETOWN -- Henry Wilson, 82, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003. The funeral will be held 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26 at Wilds Courtyard Chapel. Burial will follow in Arnett Memorial Garden. Visitation will be held 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 at Wilds Courtyard Chapel.

Midge E. Wyle

MYRTLE BEACH -- Midge E. Hilton Wyle, 81 wife of the late David R. Wyle, formerly of The Landing, died Tuesday, Sept. 23 at NHC Health Care, Garden City. Arrangements are entrusted to McMillan-Small Funeral Home, Myrtle Beach. (843) 449-3396.

Laura G. Fennell

JOHNSONVILLE -- Laura Graham Fennell, 34, wife of Wallace H. Fennell, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003.

Mrs. Fennell was born in Florence, S.C. a daughter of Fairly and Katherine Coker Graham. She was employed by Permenter Real Estate of Surfside, attended both Pleasant Hill Baptist and Prospect Pentecostal Holiness Churches, a graduate of Pleasant Hill High School, Horry-Georgetown Technical College where she received an Associate Degree in Computer Science.

Surviving are: her husband, Wallace H. Fennell of the home; daughter, Kinsley fennel of the home; parents, Fairley and Katherine C. Graham of Hemingway; brother, Ken (Susan) Graham, of Hemingway; paternal grandmother, Laura Graham of Hemingway; mother and father-in-law, Wallace and Linda Pearl Fennell of Johnsonville; sister-in-law, Laurie McDaniel of Johnsonville; brothers-in-law, Brett and Clark Fennell, both of Johnsonville; nieces and nephews, Katlen Graham, Britney McDaniel, Dylan Gray and Pierce Fennell; aunts and uncles, Randall and Becky Graham, Clyse and Patricia Graham, Lennie and Minnie Owens, Don and Judy Cantley, and other aunts and uncles.

The funeral will be held 4 p.m. Thursday in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, will be in the church cemetery.

Carl H. Fort

MCCLELLANVILLE -- Carl H. Fort, 78, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003 at his residence.

The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24 at McClellanville Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Ricky West. Burial, directed by Graham Funeral Home of Georgetown, will follow in McClellanville Baptist Church Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home
