Vada Lucille H. Beck

CALABASH, N.C. -- Vada Lucille H. Beck, 93, formerly of River Road, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2003 in Autumn Care of Shallotte, N.C.

Born in Grissettown, N.C. on Feb. 14, 1910, she was a daughter of the late John and Lucille Benton Hewett. She was one of 12 children. She was predeceased by her husband, John Roland Beck in 1983, and a son, Claude M. Beck of St. Pauls, N.C. in 1978.

She and her husband were the past owners and operators of John's Seafood Restaurant in Calabash, N.C. for many years. She was a member of the former Calabash Baptist Church.

Everyone that knew Vada Beck knew her as a hard working lady, churchgoer, and a sweet and caring person who was known as everyone's sweet grandmother. She was always thinking and concerned for others and willing to lend a helping hand. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

Surviving are her daughter, Willow (Mickie) Chestnut of Calabash, N.C.; six grandchildren, Adelia Chestnut, Tom (Monk) E. Chestnut, and Debbie Morgan, all of Calabash, N.C., Brenda C. Moore of Surfside Beach, Edward (Tub) Chestnut of Little River, and Sandra Beck of Fayetteville, N.C.; a sister, Dola Faulk of Autumn Care of Shallotte, N.C., a daughter-in-law, Juanita Beck of St. Pauls, N.C.; seven great-grandchildren, Brittany, Kelly, Amanda, Guy, Justin, Erica, and Brooks; and one great-great-grandchild, DeCarlo.

The funeral will be conducted Monday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Brunswick Funeral Service with the Rev. Jerry Prince officiating. Burial will follow in the Beck Family Cemetery, Calabash, N.C.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16 at the funeral home.

Casketbearers will be Edward (Tub) Chestnut, Tom (Monk) E. Chestnut Jr., Guy Chestnut, Justin Chestnut, James Morgan Jr., and Ralph Moore.

Brunswick Funeral Service and Crematory of Shallotte, N.C. is serving the family.

Delores Anderson Brown

MYRTLE BEACH -- Delores Anderson Brown, 79, widow of Thurman Luther Brown, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2003 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 4, 1924 in Myrtle Beach, a daughter of the late George Washington Anderson and Lucy Jane Owens Anderson.

Mrs. Brown was a life long native of Myrtle Beach. She was co-owner/operator of Brown's Mobile Home Park. She was the bookkeeper for Mack's 5 & 10 for more than 20 years and she also was the secretary/bookkeeper for Betty's Gift & Accessory Shop for another 20 years.

She was a life long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Myrtle Beach, where her service included the first president of the Young Women Organization, the president of the Primary Organization, positions in the Ward and Stake Relief Society presidency, and Sunday School teacher.

Survivors include her son, Rodney Thurman Brown and wife, Mary Newman Brown of Myrtle Beach; six grandchildren, Lindsey, Madison, Jordan, Riley, Hunter, and Halston Brown, all of Myrtle Beach; nieces, Betty Hill and husband, Dale, Karen Wall and husband, Norman, Sonja Casey and husband, Herb, and Jenice Lee and husband, Ralph; nephews, Charles Jennings and wife, Coralee, Rayford Vereen and wife, Karen, and Wyndal Vereen.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ada Cordelia Jennings and Mary Idelle Vereen; and a nephew, David "Buddy" Jennings.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (48th Ave. North and Hwy. 17 By-pass). Burial will follow at Ocean Woods Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16 at McMillan-Small Funeral Home.

William Riley Chatham

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH -- William Riley Chatham, 69, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2003 at his home.

Mr. Chatham was born March 18, 1934 in Forsyth County, N.C., a son of the late Spencer Lee and Mary Pansy Dobbins Chatham.

He was a retired building inspector with the City of North Myrtle Beach. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War and a charter member of the Grace Methodist Church in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Surviving are his wife, Carol B. Chatham; one son, Michael Wayne Chatham and wife, Lexie, of West Columbia; two daughters, Cynthia Lynn Chatham and Barbara Anne Chatham, both of North Myrtle Beach; a brother, the Rev. James Ray Chatham of Pilot Mountain, N.C.; two sisters, Jo Ann Hauser and Janette Cox, both of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and three grandchildren, Laurin, Joshua, and William.

Services and burial in a national cemetery will be at a later date.

McMillan-Small Funeral Home is in charge.

Fabious Edgar Doyle

AYNOR -- Fabious Edgar Doyle, 96, of Hwy. 319, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003 at Conway Medical Center.

Mr. Doyle was born in Horry County, a son of the late Henry Eugene and Bessie Rabon Doyle. He was a member of Cool Springs Southern Methodist Church. He was predeceased by his wife, Inez Elizabeth Barnhill Doyle, and two brothers, H.E. Doyle and R.E. Doyle.

Surviving are a son, J. Henry Doyle of Aynor; two daughters, Peggy Barnhill and Mary Ann James, both of Aynor; three sisters, Viena Crosby of Whiting, Maine, Alene Huggins of Ga., and Genevieve Bestermann of Myrtle Beach; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16 from Cool Springs Southern Methodist Church with the Rev. Danny McLellan and the Rev. Julian Gamble officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway chapel.

Memorials may be sent to Cool Springs Southern Methodist Church, 3051 Hwy. 319, Aynor, S.C., 29511.

Paul Jackson

LORIS -- Paul Jackson, 62, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003.

Visitation will be held at 701 Hemingway Rd., Cedar Branch Community of Loris. Funeral arrangements will be announced by United Funeral Home.

Paul Ray Jones

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH -- Mr. Paul Ray Jones, 75, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003 at Loris Community Hospital. Born in Horry County, he was the son of the late George W. and Mildred Oxner Jones Sr.

Mr. Jones was a U.S. Army veteran and was the former chief of police for the city of Loris. He was also a former SLED officer.

Survivors include his wife, Billie Ward Jones of North Myrtle Beach; two sons, Paul R. Jones Jr. of North Myrtle Beach and David Jones of Conway; one daughter, Trena J. Soutier of Charlotte, N.C.; one sister, Emeline J. Rankin of Loris; and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, George W. Jones Jr.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16 at the home of his sister, Emeline J. Jones, at 8336 West Hwy. 19, Loris, S.C. (Allsbrook Community). Burial will be private in Twin City Memorial Gardens.

Lee Funeral Home and Crematory of Little River/North Myrtle Beach is serving the family.

Edward P. Borko

CONWAY -- Edward Paul Borko, 71, died Jan. 3, 2004 at Conway Medical Center. A memorial mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to St. James Catholic Church Building Fund 1071 Academy Drive Conway, S.C. 29526. Grand Strand Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.
