Matrice P. Riley

FLORENCE -- Matrice Phillips Riley, 91, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, in a Florence hospital after an illness. She was the widow of Robert Taylor Riley Sr.

Mrs. Riley was born in Cleveland, Alabama, a daughter of the late Charley W. and Essie Hunt Phillips. She was a homemaker and was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Riley served on the Board of Directors of Belk's Department Store and was a member of Woodland Garden Club.

Surviving are a son, Robert Taylor Riley Jr. of Murrells Inlet; a granddaughter, Taylor Matrice Riley of Murrells Inlet; and five brothers, Elery Phillips of Birmingham, Ala., Jasper Phillips of Blountsville, Ala., Lenton Phillips of Hayden, Ala., Welton Phillips of Whispering Pines, N.C., and Ford Phillips of Memphis, Tenn.

Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mary E. Robinson

GEORGETOWN -- Mary E. Robinson, 88, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004. The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22 at St. Paul AME Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Wilds Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Karen A. Shaw

BURLINGTON, N.C. -- Karen Ann Turner Shaw, 55, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, N.C. after four years of failing health and three weeks of critical illness.

She was a native of Jersey City, N.Y. She attended Harvest Hills Church of God. Karen was an office manager for Dale Plumbing Company, and office manager/driver for a courier company in Myrtle Beach, S.C. She also worked for the Rape Crisis Center in Myrtle Beach.

Survivors include a daughter, Joy Isley-Hinshaw of Burlington, N.C.; son, Frank Lloyd Isley Jr. of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; grandchildren, Nikki Simpson of Burlington, N.C., Brent Hinshaw of Burlington, N.C., Whitney Isley of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Frank Lloyd "Bo" Isley III of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and her mother, Frances Murray Turner of Burlington, N.C.

Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff Shaw; and her father, William C. Turner Sr.

McClure Funeral Service of Graham, N.C. is serving the family.

Sadie Soles

LORIS -- Sadie Soles, 82, died day, Jan. 18, 2004 at her residence. The family will receive friends at Creekwood Apts. #8-B in Loris. Arrangements will be announced by United Funeral Home.

Barbara Tanfield

MYRTLE BEACH -- With the angels and her loving husband of 51 years at her side, Barbara Tanfield peacefully joined her Lord on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004.

Born June 17, 1932 in Kearny, N.J., she was the daughter of the late William and Mabel Lawson McCance. Barbara attended the North Arlington schools and the Berkeley Business College in East Orange, where she returned to years later as the Executive Secretary to the President. She retired in 1994 as the Executive Secretary to the President of Goody Hair Products. Mrs. Tanfield was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and Murrells Inlet, WOTM Lodge 2351. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Robin.

Surviving are her husband, Bob; daughters and son-in-law, Leslie Ann Styles of Surfside Beach and Susan and Mark Brady of Pine Beach, N.J.; sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin, Robert, Jr. and Charles, of Myrtle Beach, William and Danielle of Point Pleasant, N.J., and Caroline of Toms River, N.J.; grandchildren, Kevin, Jr., Thomas and Matthew, of Toms River, N.J., Christopher and Jeremy Styles of Surfside Beach and Emily Brady of Pine Beach, N.J.

Funeral arrangements to be announced by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Michael Catholic Church School Fund, PO Box 2659, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.

Herman Babson

ASH, N.C. -- Herman Babson, 79, of Ludlum Rd. died Sat., Jan. 24, 2004 in the New Hanover Regional Medial Center. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Mon. in the Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow in the Smith Family Cemetery. Brunswick Funeral Service & Crematory of Shallotte, N.C.

Kelly Ann Cox

LORIS -- Kelly Ann Cox, age 20, of McQueen St. died Sat. Jan. 24, 2004. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Sun., at Ward Funeral Home in Loris. Further arrangements will be announced by the funeral home.

J. Richard Deyo

MYRTLE BEACH -- J. Richard Deyo, 75, of Providence Park died Saturday, January 24, 2004 at his home.

He was born June 24, 1928 in Newburgh, N.Y., a son of Irene Tuckosh Deyo and the late John J. Deyo.

Mr. Deyo served in the infantry during the Korean War. He was a retired motel owner in Bedford, N.H. and also was an insurance and commercial sign salesman. Prior to moving to South Carolina in 1992, from Manchester, N.H. he was active in local organizations including the Lions Club, Little League, the local library and several civic boards. In Myrtle Beach, he did volunteer work at Chapin Library and was on their Board of Directors. He was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-one years, Jayne G. Deyo; his mother of Cornwall, N.Y.; two sons, Michael R. Deyo of Weare, N.H., Christopher E. Deyo and wife Nancy of San Francisco; daughter, Robyn M. Deyo of Dorchester, Mass.; a brother, Roger B. Deyo of Montgomery, N.Y.; a sister, Joan D. Stafford of Cornwall, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Shawn, Jillian, Shiloh, Ryan and Kelcy.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 1000-8th Ave. N., North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582, Magdalem College, 511 Kearsarge Mountain Road, Weare, NH O3278, or Tidelands Community Hospice, 2591 N. Fraser St., Georgetown, SC 29440.

McMillan-Small Funeral Home is serving the family.

F. J. Faircloth

CONWAY -- F. J. Faircloth, age 57, of Mikes Rd., died Saturday, January 24, 2004 at Conway Medical Center.

Mr. Faircloth was born in Horry County, a son of A. J. Faircloth and the late Lucille Long Faircloth. Mr. Faircloth was a retired plumber and was predeceased by 3 sisters, Jeannie Mae Taggert, Shirley Bellamy and Louvenia Anderson and one grandson.

Surviving in addition to his father of Conway are, his companion, Betty Allen of Conway, one son, F. J. Faircloth, Jr. of Galivants Ferry, one daughter, Michelle Medlin of Nichols, five grandchildren, Jennifer Marie Smith, Amber Nichole Medlin, Bradley Wayne Medlin, Travis James Faircloth and Christian Marie Faircloth, three brothers, Jessie Faircloth of Myrtle Beach, Leroy Faircloth and Ronald Faircloth both of Conway.

No local services are planned. The family will receive friends at the residence of Deborah Anderson on Clay Ridge Road.

George A. Grimm

MYRTLE BEACH -- George A. Grimm of Plantation Point died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004 at her home.

Born in Hannibal, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary Scott Grimm. Ms. Grimm was associated with Aetna Life and Casualty Co. for 40 years. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and is survived by family and many friends.

A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m., Thurs. at St. Michael Catholic Church.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Louise V. Hayes

SOUTHPORT, N.C. -- Louise V. Hayes, 87, formerly of Ocean Isle Beach, died Fri., Jan. 23, 2004 in the Ocean Trail Convalescent Center. Funeral services will be announced by Brunswick Funeral Service & Crematory, Shallotte, N.C.

Frank Johnson

CONWAY -- Frank Johnson, 53, died Fri., Jan. 23, 2004 at his residence. Visitation will be at the home of his wife, Ethel Johnson at 682 Myrtle Ridge Dr., Conway. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Rhue's Mortuary.
