Nettie G. Lawson

GALIVANTS FERRY -- Nettie Grainger Lawson, age 51, wife of Gene Lawson, of Lawson Drive, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004 at her residence.

She was born in Conway, a daughter of Hazel Jordan Grainger Flowers and the late Watterman Stanley Grainger. She was a member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church and was a manager and bookkeeper for Pee Dee Livestock. Mrs. Lawson was a dedicated wife and mother.

Surviving in addition to her husband of Galivants Ferry and her mother and step-father, Archie Mack Flowers, Jr. of Conway are; one son, Eugene Scott Lawson and his wife, Stephanie of Aynor; one daughter, Candice Lynn Lawson of Aynor; three grandchildren, Harlie and Hannah Lawson and Stephen Todd; two brothers, Stanley Grainger and Wesley Grainger both of Conway; two sisters, Lenora Tindal and Angelia Flowers both of Conway; one step-brother, Archie Flowers of Conway, one half-sister, Marilyn Cooper of Conway and one half-brother, Tyrone Grainger of Charleston.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Mon. from Mt. Hermon Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Floyd officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sun. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be sent to Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, 2453 Brunson Spring Road, Galivants Ferry, SC 29544.

Sharon Martin

CONWAY -- Sharon Martin, age 32, died Sat., Jan. 24, 2004. Visitation will be Sunday at Palmetto Funeral Home of Conway. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Helen F. McCliesh

SHALLOTTE, N.C. -- Helen E. McCliesh, 80, of Mulberry St. died Fri., Jan. 23, 2004 in Autumn Care of Shallotte. A memorial service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Tues. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Ambler, Pa. Inurnment will be in the George Washington Memorial Park, Plymouth Meeting, Pa. Brunswick Funeral Service & Crematory of Shallotte, N.C. is in charge.

Lenora Jane N. Morris

ANDREWS -- Lenora Jane Newton Morris, 65, died Fri., Jan. 23, 2004 at Williamsburg Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be Mon. at 2 p.m. at Piney Forest Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Piney Forest Cemetery under the direction of the Andrews Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the residence Sun. from 6 to 8 p.m.

Ricky James Norris

MULLINS -- Ricky James Norris, 40, died Fri., Jan. 23, 2004. Meares Funeral Home of Mullins is in charge of arrangements.

Lois Linda G. Proctor

FORK -- Lois Linda Grantham Proctor, 83, died Sat., Jan. 24, 2004. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sun. at the Meares Funeral Home in Mullins. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m., Mon. Jan. 26 at the Meares Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Lake View Cemetery.

Irving Rosner

CALABASH -- Irving Rosner, 85, husband of Trudie M. Rosner, died Sat., Jan. 24, 2004. Services and burial will be private. McMillan-Small Funeral Home is serving the family.

Freddie E. Ruth

CONWAY -- Freddie E. Ruth (Bubba), 66, of Rose St., departed this life for his heavenly home on Thursday, January 22, 2004 at Conway Medical Center.

He was born on April 7, 1937 in Estill, a son of the late Haggood and Lela Mae Brantley Ruth. He was predeceased by a daughter, Lela Mae Moore, a sister, Sadie B. Ruth, and a brother, Ervin (Joe) Ruth.

At an early age he was baptized at Efferson Baptist Church in Estill. Later in life he moved to Conway with his family where he attended Whittemore High School and remained until the age of 17. He then moved to Newark, N.J. and made it his home for 49 years before returning to Conway in August of 2003. He accepted Christ in his life and became a member of Faith Temple Church of God in Christ. Brother Ruth was a warm and generous person, always had a smile and was a good friend to all who knew him. He will be missed by his loving friends and family. He was employed at Trinity Paper and Plastic for more than 38 years before retiring.

Brother Ruth leaves, to cherish his loving memories, three daughters, Mona Lisa Drake of Houston, Texas, Paula Ruth-Glass (husband Charles) of Newark, N.J., Nina Ruth-Brown of Galloway Township, N.J.; a son, Freddie Ruth Jr. of Orange, N.J.; a sister, Sallie Mae Walls of Conway; ten grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Family will receive friends on Sunday from 5 - 7 p.m. at Conway Funeral Services, 3304 4th Avenue, Conway. Funeral services will be Mon. at 2 p.m. at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ by the Rev. Cynthia Brockington, with burial to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Pearl S. Watson

CONWAY -- Pearl Stalvey Watson, age 62, wife of Marion O. Watson, of the Tilly Swamp Section of Horry County, died Sat., Jan. 24, 2004 at Carolinas Hospital System in Florence. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel.

Harold Williams

CONWAY -- Harold Williams, age 68 of Society Drive died Friday, January 23, 2004 in the Charleston VA Hospital following an illness.

Mr. Williams was born in Roland, N.C., a son of the late Melvin and Carrie Seals Williams. He was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church. Mr. Williams was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Surviving are: his wife, Doris Flynn Williams, of Conway; three sons, Melvin Williams, Fred Williams, and Marcus Williams, all of Fayetteville, N.C.; five daughters, Debbie Worley of Goshen, Va., Kaye Timal, Patricia Koonce, Martha Williams, and Sarah Williams, all of Fayetteville, N.C.; two step sons, Junior Eubanks of Elba, Ala. and Tony Eubanks of Conway; two step daughters, Debbie O'Connor of Charlotte, N.C. and Sherry Setzer of Matthews, N.C.; one brother, Woodrow Williams of Norfolk, Va.; 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Mon. from Greenwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Krieg officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery East in Monroe, N.C., at 3 p.m. Mon. with Military Rites, directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Sun.

Evelyn M. Bannan

MYRTLE BEACH -- Evelyn M. Bannan, 86, widow of James Joseph Bannan, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at her residence.

She was born Aug. 10, 1917, in Baltimore, Md., a daughter of the late Adolph and Martha Polzine Zaleski.

She was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church since 1977, and a former volunteer at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center Gift Shop.

Surviving are four sons, James Bannan and wife, Mary of Myrtle Beach, Robert Bannan and wife, Norma of Surfside Beach, Terrence Bannan and wife, June of Conway, Vincent Bannan and wife, Peggy of Myrtle Beach; four daughters, Patricia Weiss of Myrtle Beach, Mary Bolka and husband, Richard, of Spokane Wash., Dorothy Morey and husband, James of Cincinnati, Ohio, Donna Eyring and husband William of Westlake, Ohio; two brothers, Leon and Adolph Zaleski of Baltimore, Md.; twenty-eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

A memorial mass will be held at 9 a.m., Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at St. Andrew Catholic Church.

Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.

McMillan-Small Funeral Home is serving the family.

Louise Dawson

COLUMBIA -- Mrs. Louise Wood Dawson died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004.

Born in Hemingway, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Mary Johnson Joy. She attended Winthrop University and was a graduate of Draughon Business College. She was a member of North Trenholm Baptist Church and a former member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church where she was active in the Women's Missionary Union. She was a member of Golden Friendship Club and Officers Club at Fort Jackson.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, James V. and Gerri Wood of Columbia; brothers, W.L. "Bill" Joy of Columbia and John R. Joy of Garden City; sister, Hazel Rodgers of Columbia; two grandchildren, Jim Wood and Whitney Layton; and two great-grandchildren. She was also survived by close friend and companion, Joe Hubert of Columbia. She was predeceased by her husbands, James V. Wood and William Dawson; son, Ernest H. Wood; and brothers, Will Joy, E.M. Joy, Homer Joy and Douglas Joy.

Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at North Trenholm Baptist Church with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Portsbridge Hospice or to Newberry Boys farm. Visitation will be Sunday 5 to 7 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.

Theresa Marie M. Gaffney

MARION -- Mrs. Theresa Marie Matula Gaffney died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004 at Marion County Medical Center. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Richardson Funeral Home.

Alma Roma Hart

MYRTLE BEACH -- Mrs. Alma Roma Hart, 91, wife of the late William (Bill) Spivey Hart, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004 at Grand Strand Healthcare.

Born Aug. 23, 1912 in Moultrie, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Francis Nevata Rowland and James Perry Rowland. She and her late husband moved to Myrtle Beach in 1941. Mrs. Hart was a homemaker. She was also a charter member of the Archibald Rutledge Book Club and a charter member of the Ocean View Baptist Church where she served as the church's first historian.

Survivors include one daughter, Patty Hart Capps and her husband, J. Harold Capps Sr., of Myrtle Beach. Two grandchildren, Dr. J. Harold (Hal) Capps Jr. and his wife Michelle, of Myrtle Beach and Jill Hart Coates and her husband, David, of Myrtle Beach. Five great-grandchildren, Reed Truslow, Taylor Coates, Haley Kathryn Capps and Emily Hart Capps, all of Myrtle Beach.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 12th at McMillan-Small Funeral Home with the Rev. Kirk Lawton officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow immediately afterwards at Ocean Woods Cemetery in Myrtle Beach.

Memorials may be made to Ocean View Baptist Church, 7300 North Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572.
