LITTLE RIVER -- Julius C. Hodge, 82, died Monday, May 31, 2004, at his residence. Arrangements will be announced by Shields Funeral Home.

Minnie D. Hughes

MURRELLS INLET -- Minnie Doretha Mishoe Hughes, 82, died Monday, May 31, 2004, at Waccamaw Community Hospital following an illness. Arrangements will be announced by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home

George A. Kornbau

MURRELLS INLET -- George A. Kornbau, 68, died Friday, May 28, 2004, at Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet, S.C.

Born Feb. 18, 1936 in York, Pa., he was the son of the late Pius L. and Dorothy R. Eisensmith Kornbau. Mr. Kornbau was owner/operator of the Chart Room in Garden City Beach, S.C., for 22 years and former manager of Back Stage Deli in Myrtle Beach, S.C. He was also the former manager of Outdoor Country Club and the Meat Department for Acme Grocery in York, Pa. He was a member of Surfside Beach Moose Lodge 2351 were he served as Past Governor, Elks Lodge 2797 and the American Legion Post 178, both in Murrells Inlet, S.C. Mr. Kornbau was preceded in death by a grandson, Gerald D. Kornbau, Jr.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Gloria Sue Kornbau of Murrells Inlet, S.C., are five sons, Jeffrey A. Kornbau, George A. Kornbau, Jr., Gerald D. Kornbau, all of York, Pa., Michael L. Kornbau of Myrtle Beach, S.C., John R. Champion of Washington D.C.; two daughters, Leslie J. Champion of Tampa, Fla., and Susan Cheleste Champion of Inman, S.C.; six grandchildren, Heath, Scott, Michael, Victoria, Taylor, and Madison; two brothers, Dale Kornbau and Bobby Kornbau, both of York, Pa.; two sisters, Charlotte R. Halpin and Audrey J. Lerew, both of York, Pa.; one niece, Yvette Scavuzzo of York, Pa.; beloved pet, Chevas and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 11a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2004 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 950 48th Ave. N., Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.

William A. 'Buddy' Ready III

COLUMBIA -- William Alva "Buddy" Ready, III, 49, died Saturday, May 29, 2004.

Born in Columbia, he was the son of William A. Ready Jr., and Susie A. Ready. He was employed with the Irmo Branch of Lexington County Public Library and was a member of St. Andrew's Baptist Church.

Buddy graduated from Clemson University in 1977 and from the University of South Carolina Law School in 1980, where he was on the Law Review. He had worked with the Lexington County Solicitor's Office, the S.C. Attorney General's Office in the Appeals Division, and DHEC.

Buddy was a loving father to his daughters, Rebekah Lynn Ready and Deborah Leigh Ready. He was a devoted and faithful son to his parents who also survive him. He was a kind and compassionate brother to his sister, Pam Cook, and a thoughtful and generous uncle to his niece and nephew, Alison and Neal Cook. His friends and family will remember him for his humor, gentleness and sweet spirit.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 2, at 3 p.m. in the New Life Chapel of the Lowman Home in White Rock, S.C., with burial in Woodridge Memorial Park, Lexington. Officiating will be the Rev. Gary Lyerly and the Rev. Joel McCoy. Visitation with the family will be 2 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service in the Lowman Home Daily Life Center. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo, is in charge.

Memorials may be made to the Lexington County Public Library, Irmo Branch.

Edwin L. Thomas

CONWAY -- Edwin Leon Thomas, 82, of Laurelwood Lane, died Saturday, May 29, 2004, at Conway Medical Center.

Mr. Thomas was born in Chicago, Ill., a son of the late Edwin Leon and Selena Frances Ranes Thomas. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of WWII.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth A. Thomas of Conway; two daughters, Michaele Stooke of O' Fallon, Ill. and Pat Fairfax of Burke, Va.; one sister, Edna Mae Kummerow of Las Vegas, Nev.; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.

No services are planned. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Charles F. Brill

PAWLEYS ISLAND -- Charles F. Brill, 74, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004 in McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.

Mr. Brill was born August 11, 1929 in Washington, DC, a son of the late Paul Alex Brill and Eva Isabel Honey Brill. He was a retired marble installer. He and his family retired to Pawleys Island from Fulton County, Pa. in 1990. He was a Korean War veteran and rece-ived a Purple Heart while ser-ving in Korea. He was an active member of both the VFW and DAV. He loved gardening and taking care of his "grands." He was a member of Saint Delights Pentecostal Holiness Church and the adult Sunday school class.

Surviving are his wife, Norma O. Brill of Pawleys Island; three sons, David D. Brill of Point of Rock, Md., Paul H. Brill of Lamberttown, and William F. Brill of Pawleys Island; six daughters, Linda Brill, Carla Brill, both of Md., Lorraine Brill of St. Thomas, Pa., Eva Duvall of Pawleys Island, Leighanna Young of Gulfport, Fla., and Bridgette Ann O'Neil of Hyattsville, Md.; 22 grand-children; two great-grand-children; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 31, at Saint Delights Pentecostal Holiness Church, officiated by Pastor Chris Browder. The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church. Graham Funeral Home of Georgetown is serving the family.

Iva Jean Jones Butler

CONWAY -- Iva Jean Jones Butler, 47, wife of Leister "Lee" Birl Butler Jr. of Shawn Lane, died Thursday, May 27, 2004 at Conway Medical Center.

Born August 11, 1956 in Hominy Falls, W.Va., she was a daughter of Georgie Violet Counts and the late Georgie Maxwell Jones.

Mrs. Butler was employed by the Conway Nursing Center for 16 years. She was a member of Mt. Urim Baptist Church in Hominy Falls, W.Va. She was a very loving and considerate person who loved her family and grandchildren, putting others before herself. She was pre-deceased by a brother, Emeral Lee Counts.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three sons, Shawn Butler and his fiance, Angie Szczepanik, Shannon Butler and his fiance, Nancy Cash, all of Conway, and James Lee Butler of Baltimore, Md.; one daughter, Jeanette L. Butler of Conway; mother and step-father, Georgie Violet and Lantie Emeral Counts of Hominy Falls, W.Va.; one brother, Henry Counts of Hominy Falls, W.Va.; two sisters, Ann Miller of Calvin, W.Va. and Melody Foster of Nettle, W.Va.; three grand-children, Adrian and Calvin Cash of Conway and Cheyenne M. Butler of Conway; nine nieces; ten nephews; two great-nephews; and two great-nieces.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, May 30, at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel with the Rev. Carlene Glisson officiating. The family will rece-ive friends 12 p.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made in her name to American Cancer Society, 950-48th Avenue North, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.

Martha G. Davis

MYRTLE BEACH -- Martha G. Davis, 72, died Wednesday, May 25, 2004 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

She was born January 21, 1932 in Myrtle Beach to the late Deacon Samuel B. Gore and Sadie Gore.

Mrs. Davis was a graduate of Whittemore High School, where she played on the basketball team. She was a member of Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she served for many auxiliaries. She also served in the US Air Force. She was married to the late Melvin C. Davis, formerly of Georgetown.

Survivors include one daughter, Sherri Davis of Myrtle Beach; one grandson, Patrick Scott Davis of Myrtle Beach; three sisters, Ann Robinson of Miami, Virginia Elliot of Orlando, Fla., and Janet Campbell of Redding, Calif.; one brother, Atty. David L. Gore of Chicago; and four sisters-in-law, Nina H. Gore of Myrtle Beach, Margie Gore of Fork, Mary A. Gore of Chicago, and Betty Jean Gore of Myrtle Beach.

The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 30, at Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Internment will be at Pine Island Community Cemetery in Myrtle Beach. Visitation will be 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 29, at the church. Rhue's Mortuary is in charge of the service, Atu J. Williams, Funeral Director.

Donald L. Grenier Sr.

CONWAY -- Donald Louis Grenier Sr., age 72, passed away Friday, May 29, 2004 at Loris Community Hospital following an illness. Arrangements will be announced by Palmetto Funeral Home of Conway.

Patsy Waller Holder

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Patsy Waller Holder, 75, died Thursday, May 27, 2004 at her home.

Mrs. Holder was born April 18, 1929 in Wilkes County to the late Thurman Hyde and Lucy Crook Waller. She was pre-ceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 27 years, Bill Holder and a grandson, Billy Brannon Holder.

Mrs. Holder is survived by three sons, Kenneth Holder of Lexington, Keith Holder and wife, Pamela of Advance, and Jay Holder of Myrtle Beach; a daughter, Heidi Holder Maust and her husband, Mike of Roanoke, Va.; a sister, Jennie Jo Waller Hill and husband, Raymond; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, May 30, at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Dan Hester officiating. The family will receive friends 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, May 29, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
