Caleb P. Moore

MYRTLE BEACH -- Caleb Preston Moore, 49, of Myrtle Beach, died Wednesday June 2, 2004, at Kingston Nursing Center following an extended illness. Arrangements will be announced by McMillan-Small Funeral Home.

Elizabeth 'Betty' Stritzel

MANASSAS, Va. -- Elizabeth "Betty" Stritzel, 87, died Saturday, May 29, 2004.

Survivors include one daughter, Jean O'Brien of Annandale, Va.; one son, Carl William Stritzel of Cincinnati, Ohio; three grandchildren, Amanda Victoria McManaway, Carolyn Clare Stritzel, and Carlene Michele Tilson; and two great-grandchildren, Johnathan Skye Tilson and Christopher Collin Tilson.

Services and interment were private with arrangements by Price Funeral Home, Manassas.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy make take the form of contributions to Boys and Girls Clubs of America, 1230 W. Peachtree St. NW, Atlanta, Ga. 30309, in memory of Elizabeth "Betty" Stritzel.

Col. Howard W. Williams Sr.

MYRTLE BEACH -- Colonel Howard W. Williams Sr. USAF (Retired), 87, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004.

He was born in Birmingham, Ala., a son of the late Lonnie Wilson and Lillian Plyler Williams. He attended grade schools in Columbia, S.C., and graduated from the University of S.C. class of 1939, with a B.S. Degree in Geology.

He joined the Army Air Corps in 1940, as a flying cadet graduating from Randolph and Kelly Fields in San Antonio, Texas, where he earned his wings and Second Lieutenant bars in August 1940. During the next seven years, he was assigned to various airfields as Instructor Pilot, Director of Flying, and Director of Operations and Training. In 1947, he was assigned to the Army Command and General Staff College and upon graduation was transferred to the Armed Forces Staff College of China with station in Nanking, China. Colonel Williams served as Senior Air Force Officer with the United Nations Peace Keeping Mission to Pakistan and India with stations in Kashmir, India. During the Korean War, he was the Director of Requirements for the Far East Air Forces Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. Upon returning to the United States, he attended the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Va. From there, he was sent to Rangoon, Burma to serve as the Air Attache to the American Embassy. Some years later he served in the same capacity in Karachi, West Pakistan. Upon returning from Burma, he took command of the 777th Troop Carrier Squadron at Pope Air Force Base in Fayetteville, N.C. Returning from Pakistan, Colonel Williams was sent back to Pope Air Force Base to command the Tactical Air Life Center. He is a Life Member of the following organizations: Sigma Chi Fraternity, the Daedalians, and the University of South Carolina Alumni Associations. Also, he is a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Dunes Golf and Beach Club, and served many years as a Director for the Associated Charity of Myrtle Beach.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Sarah Harrison Williams; a son, Howard W. Williams Jr.; a daughter, Sally Anne Kaiser and husband, Harold F. Kaiser Jr., all of Myrtle Beach; three grandchildren, Harold F. Kaiser III and wife, Sunny, Jeffrey H. Kaiser, and Sara E. Kaiser.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 4, 2004, at McMillan-Small Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Timmerman officiating. Private inurnment will be at Southeastern Memorial Cemetery.

Chief Master Sgt. Wilbur Wright

GAINESVILLE, Ga. -- Chief Master Sgt. Wilbur Albert Wright (Retired), 76, died Friday, May 28, 2004, in Autumn Breeze Personal Care Home. Graveside services, with interment will be held in Arlington National Cemetery.

Daisy Lee Barnhill

Gallivants Ferry -- Daisy Lee Barnhill, 63, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at her residence after an illness.

Ms. Barnhill was born Dec. 4, 1940 in Horry County, a daughter of the late Jesse Pearl Barnhill and the late Lessie Lucille Holt Barnhill. Ms. Barnhill was retired from Sara Lee Hosiery. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Women On Mission and a messenger to the Waccamaw Baptist Association.

Surviving are her children, Lisa G. Herrington and her husband, Keith of Galivants Ferry and Alex Byron "Pete" Graham of Marion; three grandchildren, Crickett Nicole Herrington, David John Herrington, and Graham Keith Herrington; her sisters and brothers, Audrey Barnhill Jones of Galivants Ferry, Jack W. Barnhill of Conway, Susan B. Johnson of Galivants Ferry, Jerry R. Barnhill of Galivants Ferry, Rebecca B. Allen of Conway, Benny O. Barnhill of Galivants Ferry, Alice B. Hardwick of Mullins, Annette B. Graham of Myrtle Beach and Amy B. Frommer of Aiken; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, July 2 at Antioch Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gordon Graham and the Rev. Marty Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Cox-Collins Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, Building Fund, 2080 Highway 129, Galivants Ferry, S.C. 29544.

Inez H. Boykin

Surfside Beach -- Inez H. Boykin, 90, of Surfside Beach died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at National Health Care. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 2, at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the funeral home.

Ethell A. Elliott

NICHOLS -- Ethell A. Elliott, 75, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004.

Born in Horry County, a son of the late Luther Elliott and Nina Miller Elliott. He was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church, where he served as past Deacon.

He was predeceased by a sister, Eunice Hardwick.

Mr. Elliott is survived by his wife of the home, Eunice Williamson Elliott; one son and his wife, Ronnie and Mary Ellen Elliott of Nichols; three daughters and their husbands, Angie and Johnny Miller of Nichols, Cherry and Wayne Willoughby of Nichols, and Devona and Layne Todd of Dillon; six brothers, Eldon Elliott, Harold Elliott, Carl Elliott, and Terry Wayne Elliott, all of Nichols, Charles Elliott of Camden, Allen Elliott of Latta; one sister, Lois Graham of Dillon; 13 grandchildren, Janet Paschal, Tracy Anderson, Scott, Mark, and Toby Elliott, Amy Strickland, Clark, Chad and Jody Willoughby, Jenny and Zachary Williams, Jake and Justin Miller; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Friday, July 2, at Cedar Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Rusty McAlister officiating. Burial will follow in the Elliott Family Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Meares Funeral Home, Mullins, S.C.

Memorials may be made to Cedar Creek Baptist Church, 9375 Black Creek Road, Nichols, S.C. 29581.

Meares Funeral Home of Mullins, S.C., is serving the family of Mr. Elliott.

Carol Tedrow Newman

Myrtle Beach -- Carol Tedrow Newman, 59, passed away suddenly Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

Born July 26, 1945 in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Richard L. and Gertrude R. Tedrow. Ms Tedrow grew up in Chevy Chase, Maryland and attended the George Washington University in the nation's capital.

After graduation Ms. Newman worked for Rep. Rodgers Morton (R. MD) both in the U.S. Congress as well as the Department of the Interior. Later she represented the CFC Company in its work on Capital Hill. After relocating to Myrtle Beach in 1984 she worked in local radio as well as print media for the past 15 years until her demise, she and Mr. Larry Scott of Conway operated a series of highly successful enterprises in personal communications and finance.

She was a member of the Optimist Club, Ms. Newman was continuously active in local affairs. She was also a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church located at 3000 North Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach.

Ms. Newman is survived by her three children, Justin and Carey Newman of Myrtle Beach, Darley Newman of New York City, and her brothers Thomas L. Tedrow of Winter Park, Fla. and Richard T. Tedrow of Bethesda, Md.

Memorial services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church at 11:00 am on Friday, July 2, 2004.
