Vera L. Conner

SURFSIDE BEACH -- Vera L. Conner, 78, of Caropines, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004 at Waccamaw Community Hospital.

Born May 18, 1926 in Rutherford County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late William H. and Sallie Edgerton Ledbetter. Mrs. Conner was a homemaker and member of Rock Springs Baptist Church in Rutherfordton, N.C. and First Baptist Church of Surfside Beach, S.C. She was preceded in death by her husband: Lloyd C. Conner, in April of 2004 and a brother: Dan Ledbetter.

Survivors include two sons: Lloyd M. Conner and wife Terry M. of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and Lee A. Conner of Surfside Beach; two daughters: Patsi C. Marlowe of Murrells Inlet and Suzie C. Jordan and her husband Kenny of Surfside Beach; 7 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Surfside Beach directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

J. Muldrow Ethridge

ANDREWS -- J. Muldrow Ethridge, 86, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Andrews Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Piney Forest Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday, prior to the service from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Nayomie Perry Jones Geller

SHALLOTTE, N.C. -- Nayomie Perry Jones Geller, 73, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004. Services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Brunswick Funeral Chapel. Brunswick Funeral Home is service the family.

Lina Jolly

MARION -- Lina Jolly died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004. Smith-Collins Funeral Home will announce funeral arrangements.

Sammie Jack Rabon

AYNOR -- Sammie Jack Rabon, 62, of Horse Pen Bay Road, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004 at his residence.

Mr. Rabon was born in Horry County, a son of the late Empie "Bart" and Mandie Magdelene Gasque Rabon. Mr. Rabon attended The Prayer Center and was an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors working with his livestock and other farm animals. He is predeceased by a sister: Melva Dean Gore.

Surviving are one son: Ernest L. Rabon and his fiance Helen Chavis of Conway; two grandchildren: Audrey Rabon Holmes and her husband Frankie H. Holmes II of Loris and Leigh Rabon of Conway; one brother: Robert L. Rabon of Aynor; six sisters: Nina Lee Dew of Summerville, S.C., Marie Dew of Goose Creek, Vila Ree Stevens and her husband Wade of Leland, N.C., Letha Ard and her husband David, Wilma Lee Chestnut and Wanda F. Rabon all of Aynor, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday from Pleasant Union Baptist Church with Rev. Buddy Seay and Rev. Norman Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday.

Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 950 48th Avenue North, Myrtle Beach, S.C. 29577.

David Wayne Turner

GREENSBORO -- David Wayne Turner, 38, passed away Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004 at his residence.

Wayne worked for After Disaster. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He was an avid fan of racing, loved to go fishing and listening to music. All who knew him will miss him. Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his father: David Leon Turner.

He is survived by his wife of 3 years: Diann Benson Turner, of the home; son: Dylan Wayne Turner; daughter: Shoshonie Turner; stepsons: Rusty Ray and Cody Mink; stepdaughter: Sherry Ray; mother: Loudelas Turner; stepfather: Stevie Simmons; sisters: Carolyn Smith, Lori Ann Ard, and Linda Jordan; brother: Jimmy Turner; stepbrother: "Little" Steven Simmons; grandparents: Stanley and Edna Jones; and other extended family.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home on Monday. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park.

Douglas R. "Rudie" Tyler

CONWAY -- Douglas R. "Rudie" Tyler, 67, of Primrose Lane, husband of Jane S. Tyler, died Saturday Aug. 21, 2004 at his residence after an illness.

Born Feb. 2, 1937 in Bayboro, he was a son of the late Hallie D. and Stella Rabon Tyler. Mr. Tyler retired in 1973 after 23 years of military service in the U.S. Army. He served two tours in Vietnam and was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross Medal and two Purple Heart Medals. He retired as a Ward Master at Moncrief Hospital, Fort Jackson, and was a certified Physician's Assistant. Mr. Tyler was affiliated with Cool Springs Southern United Methodist Church. He was predeceased by his siblings: Ethel, Paul and Joe.

Surviving in addition to his wife: Jane S. Tyler of Conway; are two sons: Steven D. Tyler and his wife Donna of Spring Hill, Fla. and Lance D. Tyler and his wife Jackie of Conway; one daughter: Patricia Ann Jones and her husband J.A. of Gallivants Ferry; seven grandchildren; one soon-to-be great grandchild; one brother: Lloyd C. Tyler of Aynor; and two sisters: Letha Miller of Aynor and Linda Jones of Gallivants Ferry.

A Memorial Service will be 11a.m. Tuesday from Cool Springs Southern United Methodist Church with the Pastor Danny McLellan officiating. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Frankie B. Vereen

LORIS -- Frankie B. Vereen, 76, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004. Services will be Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at Mr. Rona Missionary Baptist Church in Loris with burial following in the Church Cemetery. United Funeral Home of Loris is in charge of services.

June Brown Wilkes

MULLINS -- June Brown Wilkes, 70, widow of Charles Wilkes, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C.

Mrs. Wilkes was born Sept. 23, 1933 in Marion County, a daughter of the late Oliver Maxey Brown and the late Martha Virginia "Mattie" Collins Brown. Mrs. Wilkes was a homemaker. She was a member of the Well Wishers in Nichols and was a member of the VFW Post #6122 Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Wilkes was a member of Mullins First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class, the Alice K. Faile Circle, the Senior Saints, and assisted with the Homebound Ministry of the church. She was predeceased by a sister: Ethel Hammond.

Surviving are a daughter: Linda Archer of Harrison, Ark.; a son: Tim Wilkes of Okatie; 4 grandchildren: Michael Archer, Andrea Archer, Ryan Wilkes, and Kaylee Wilkes; a step granddaughter: Brandi Crosby; 5 great grandchildren: and 2 sisters: Jo Hammond of Nichols and Jean Powers of Charlotte, N.C.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jin Kirkland officiating. Burial will follow in Cedardale Cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Mullins First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 443, Mullins, S.C. 29574.

Taft K. 'Kim' Chandler

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH -- Taft K. "Kim" Chandler, 50, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, at Seacoast Medical Center following a sudden illness. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Hardwick Funeral Home of Loris is entrusted with arrangements.

Margaret Allen Flartey

VIENNA, Va. -- Margaret Allen Flartey, 83, died Wednesday, Aug. 4,2004 in Fairfax Nursing Center, Fairfax Va.

Born December 27, 1920 in Kingston, Pa. She was a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Allentown, Pa, Chapter 298. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph P. Flartey; and one brother and one sister.

Sisters, Elizabeth Seitchek and Ruth Farber; daughter, Hilda F. Romano; and many nieces and nephews survive her.

Burial took place on Aug. 23, 2004, in Arlington National Cemetery next to her husband. Arrangements by Money & King Funeral Home, Vienna, Va. (703) 938-7440.
