Howard Kenneth Herzog
LITTLE RIVER -- Howard Kenneth Herzog, 72, of Little River, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach.
He was born on Oct. 30, 1931 in New Brunswick, N.J., a son of the late Charles and Anna Cochrane Herzog.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was the owner of Busy Bee Vending Co. in Edison, N.J., where he lived until retirement. After retirement, he moved to the Grand strand in 1994 and was a driver for Sunway Charter Tours. He was a member of the VFW Post #10804 in Little River. He was liked by all who knew him and will be missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth R. Herzog of Little River; four sons, Jeffrey Herzog of Little River, Michael Herzog of Middletown, N.J., Kenneth Herzog and Mark Herzog, both of South Brunswick, N.J.; a sister, Louise Jones of Walterboro, S.C.; and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., on Wednesday at Lee Funeral Home. A prayer service will follow at 6 p.m. in Lee Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Robert Vogt will officiate. Burial will be private with the family in North Myrtle Beach Memorial Gardens.

William M. 'W.M.' Lambert
MARION -- William M. "W.M." Lambert, 65, died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness. Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday at Little Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday at Smith-Collins Funeral Home.
Willie Edward 'Ed' Norris
LORIS -- Willie Edward "Ed" Norris, 80, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, in Loris Hospital.
A native of Columbus County, he was the son of the late Luther J. and Belle Gore Norris. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Air Force, a retired apartment owner/manager, and a former produce buyer for Tabor City Foods.
He is survived by his wife, Reba R. Norris of the home; one stepson, G. Sherrell Roberts of Sumter; one stepdaughter, Jean R. Walker of Greenville; three sisters, Estaleen N. Norris, Muriel N. Norris, and Rosa Nell N. Cartrette, all of Tabor City, N.C.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, in the Inman Chapel, conducted by Dr. David Coleman, with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Tabor City. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday at Inman Funeral Home.
Martha Helen Potts
MYRTLE BEACH -- Martha Helen Potts, 74, of Squires Rd. died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at her home.
Born Aug. 3, 1930 in Union County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Oma Thurmond Oxford. Mrs. Potts was a homemaker and a member of Socastee Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert.
Surviving are her husband, James Potts; sons, Charles H. Potts and wife Peggy of Union, S,C, and John A. Potts and wife of Paula of Apex, N, C.; grandchildren, Jason, Lindsey and Sarah and sister, Katherine Goebert and husband Jack of Camp Hill, Pa.
Services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday at Socastee Baptist Church with burial following in Hillcrest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel.

William Thomas 'Bill' Sledge
OCEAN ISLE BEACH, N.C. -- William Thomas "Bill" Sledge, 66, owner and operator of the Dawg House Restaurant, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m., Wednesday in the Chapel of Brunswick Funeral Service. Burial will follow in Whiteville Memorial Cemetery in Whiteville, N.C. Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home. Brunswick Funeral Service and Crematory, Shallotte, N.C. is entrusted with arrangements.

Kate Hendrix Tatum
MCCOLL -- Kate Hendrix Tatum, 94, died Sunday, 22, 2004.
Mrs. Tatum was born March 22, 1910 in Greer, S.C., to the late Thomas Judson and Maggie Gray Hendrix. She was married to the late Ben Moore Tatum Sr. for 62. She was a member of Main St. United Methodist Church of McColl, Delta Kappa Gamma, Carlisle Book Club, United Methodist Women, and she taught the Mollie Nielis Bible Class for 25 years. She graduated from Winthrop College and taught school in Marlboro County for 30 years.
Surviving are three sons, Ben Moore Tatum Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, Dr. Thomas H. Tatum of Myrtle Beach, and William S. Tatum (Mary) of McColl; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Tatum (Rhett) Covington; and two great-grandchildren, John Rhett Covington and Emma Gray Covington.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday at Roselawn Cemetery. Friends and family are welcome to visit at the home of William and Mary Tatum, 2517 Academy Road, McColl, S.C.

James Brown
CONWAY -- James Brown, 88, of Highway 501 West, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, at his residence following an illness.
Mr. Brown was born in Horry County, a son of the late Ellie and Helen Lewis Brown.
He was a retired farmer and was predeceased by his wife Maxine Rebecca Hyman Brown and a son, Jackie Edward Brown.
Surviving are two sons, L.A. Brown and his wife, Libby and James Donald Brown and his wife, Cynthia all of Conway; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 4 p.m., Thursday from Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel with the Rev. Lindsey Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Swamp United Methodist Church Cemetery.
