Nancy Terrell

GREENWOOD — Services with burial for Nancy Jane Terrell, 75, widow of Bradley Kinney, 2 p.m. (viewing 1 p.m.) Thursday: Chapel Mausoleum in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, visitation 6-8 tonight at Harley Funeral Home. Born in Pikeville, Ky., to Preston and Mary Thacker, she died Dec. 27, 2004. Surviving: husband, James Terrell; daughters, Gloria Kinney, Sheila Langley; 3 stepchildren; 3 siblings; grandchildren.

William Spell

ST. GEORGE — William (Will) S. Spell, 80, of 331 Old Spell Road, St. George passed away Monday December 27, 2004 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in Grover United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Ritter officiating. Burial will follow in Utsey Cemetery, Grover. Pallbearers will be Duffy Bernhard, Roger Hartzog, Thomas Tuttle, Punch Reeves, Joey Nettles, and Ward Knight. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dan Utsey, Eugene Lawley, Buddy Mallard, Don Lauseng, Neil Rickborn and Johnnie Walters.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bryant Funeral Home, St. George.

Mr. Spell was born February 19, 1924, in Grover a son of the late David Smith Spell and Thelma Westbury Spell. He attended St. George public schools and served in the Merchant Marine during WWII. He was a retired electrician for Giant Cement Company, a member of Grover United Methodist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman, oldest member of Grover Hunting Club and gardener. He was predeceased by a son James Smith Spell, AIA.

Surviving; a daughter, Susan Spell, St. George, brothers, David Shingler Spell and D.R. (Pete) Spell and his wife Jean all of Charleston. A sister and her husband, Mary Frances and Earl Willis Griffith, Sr. of Lexington.

Memorials may be made to Grover United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1, Grover, SC 29447.

Marva Wiggins

PINEVILLE — Services for Marva Wiggins, 20, 1 p.m. Thursday: The Church of the Redeemer, Episcopal, burial: Mexico Cemetery, visitation 6-8 tonight: Gethers Funeral Home, St. Stephen. Born in Charleston Co. to Lavinia Wiggins and Mark Jones, she died Dec. 24, 2004. Surviving: parents; stepfather, Elton Cleveland; stepmother, Lula Jones; siblings, Fitzgerald, Emani, Jermaine, Mark, Amanda; paternal grandmother.

John Gregory Jr.

UNION — Services with burial for John Wesley Gregory Jr., 78, U.S. Army veteran of WWII, are 3 p.m. (visitation 1:30-2:45 p.m.) Thursday at Philippi Baptist Church. S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Adamsburg to John Sr. and Eura Burgess Gregory, he died December 27, 2004. Surviving: wife, Lorena Hyder Gregory; children, Glynda Karabinos, Betsy Stone, John Gregory III; six grandchildren.

Frank Lipsey

JONESVILLE — Services for Frank D. Lipsey, 96, widower of Bernice P. Lipsey, are 3 p.m. (viewing 2 p.m.) Thursday at Jonesville Baptist Church with burial in Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation is 7-9 tonight at S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. Born in Cherokee Co. to Bunyan and Enzie Harris Lipsey, he died Dec. 27, 2004. Surviving: daughters, Jane Addis, Sherry Gregory; sister, Violet Ivey; grandchildren.

Willie Robinson Sr.

NORTH — Services with burial for Willie B. Robinson Sr., 67, 2 p.m. (viewing 1 p.m.) Thursday at Jerusalem Baptist Church. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. today at W.B. Crumel Funeral Home. Born to Marion Robinson and Albertha Holman Sistrunk, he died Dec. 25, 2004. Surviving: wife, Daisy Robinson; stepmother, Eula Scott; children, Richard, Willie Jr., Stanley, Michael, Percell, Patrick, Agnus, Sabrina; 9 siblings; grandchildren.

Frances Melton

CHERAW — Frances McManus Melton, age 65, died December 28, 2004, at Roper Hospital in Charleston.

She was the daughter of the late Robert and Ruth Cox McManus.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2004, at 4:00 p.m. at Norton Funeral Home of Cheraw with burial in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.

She is survived by her son, Tom Taylor of Charleston, SC; four daughters, Shelia Bush of Charleston, Annie Hinson of Polkton, NC, Debbie Phillips of Wadesboro, NC, and Ann Melton of Cheraw, SC; one brother, Jasper McManus of Marshville, NC, and one sister, Linnie Gardner of Chesterfield, SC; and 8 grandchildren and 5 grandchildren.

Norton Funeral Home of Cheraw is serving the Melton family.

Dwayne Baker

COLUMBIA — Service for Dwayne E. Baker, 43, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church. The casket will be placed in the church at 1:00 p.m. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be David W. Flowers and Carey B. Peake. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church.

Mr. Baker died Saturday, December 25, 2004. Born in Boston, Mass., he was a son of the late Willie C. and Queen Esther Cannon Baker. He was employed with the City of Columbia Parks and Recreation Department.

Surviving are his wife, Tanya S. Baker; sons, Dwayne E. Baker, Jr. and his wife Keionna of Clarksville, Tenn., and Michael A. Baker and his wife Tiffany of Columbia; daughter, Rachel Murray of Columbia; brothers, Alphonso Baker of Boston, Mass., Gregory Baker of Hinesville, Ga., Mark Baker of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Tannis Baker of East Boston, Mass., Austin Baker of Weymouth, Mass., Darrell Baker of Westford, Mass., Willie Baker, Jr., of Newton, Mass., and Leon Baker of Kansas City; sisters, Fredora Butler and Janet Hartwell both of Baltimore, Md., Ernestine Farara and Patricia Baker both of Boston, Mass.; and grandsons, Dwayne E. Baker, III, and DeVaun E. Baker both of Clarksville, Tenn.

Inez Johnson

BATESBURG-LEESVILLE — Inez L. Johnson, 98, of Batesburg-Leesville, died Tuesday, December 28, 2004. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, December 30, 2004, at Saluda Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Joe West officiating.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Ward to the late Albert and Emma McGee Farmer. She was a homemaker. Her first husband was the late Jake Smith and her second husband the late Charles E. Johnson. She was a member of Earlewood Baptist Church.

Surviving are her daughters, Renee Carlson of Spokane, WA; Jackie Whitlock of Trenton, SC; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren; preceded in death by sons, Joe David Smith, Robert Craig Smith.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2004, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home.

Mary Anderson

CHARLESTON — Mary Garrick Anderson, 83, died Tuesday in Charleston.

Funeral--1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg with burial in Two Mile Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery in Cope.

Visitation--12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday before the funeral at the funeral home.

Joan Earle

AIKEN — Mrs. Joan Fennell Earle, 72, of Aiken died Dec. 27. She will be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother. Her funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church with Pastor Bob Byrne officiating. Interment will follow in Bethany Cemetery. Mrs. Earle was born in Savannah, GA, to the late Lila Murph Fennell and Robert S. Fennell. She worked as an Administrator for St. Angela Academy and the Aiken Co. School District. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, St. Paul Lutheran Church Choir, and Aiken Choral Society.

Survivors include her loving husband, Thomas Brockman Earle, Jr.; a daughter, Jennifer E. (James) Strader, Richmond, VA, Thomas B. (Grace) Earle, III, Honea Path, SC; three grandchildren, Thomas B. Earle, IV, Samuel Strader, Jacob Strader; a sister, Margaret Barnes, Jesup, GA; a brother, Robert S. Fennell, Hollywood, FL. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 961 Trail Ridge Rd., Aiken, SC 29803.

Christine King

COLUMBIA — Funeral Services for Mrs. Christine Whaley King, 77, of Columbia, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 31, 2004, at North Trenholm Baptist Church, with Dr. Paul Ballard and Rev. Joe Copeland officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The body will be placed in the church at 10:00 a.m. Active Pallbearers will be Sons and Grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Cornwell-Jernigan Sunday School Class and the Ray Quattlebaum Sunday School Class of the church. The family will receive friends at Greenlawn Funeral Home Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Benevolent Fund of North Trenholm Baptist Church, 6515 North Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29206.

Mrs. King died Monday, December 27, 2004, at her residence, following an extended illness. Born in Warsaw, NC, on September 21, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Johnnie Green Whaley and Della Whaley. She had been a resident of Columbia since 1967 and was a member of North Trenholm Baptist Church, and the Cornwell-Jernigan Sunday School Class of the church, where she spent much time in the prayer room.

Surviving are her husband of 34 years, Blaine S. King of Columbia; three sons, L. Edward Judice and wife Sigrid of Columbia, Charles Judice and wife Emie of Pensacola, FL, and John Judice of Lexington, SC; three stepsons, James King and wife Betty of Baden, PA, Samuel King and wife Cathy of Lathrop, MO, and Kenneth King of Lexington, SC; a stepdaughter, Kathleen King of Uniontown, PA; two grandsons, Lawrence Judice and wife Marcell of West Columbia, SC, and Alexander Judice of Falls Church, VA; a granddaughter, Isabelle Christine Judice of Pensacola, FL; a great-granddaughter, Elliana Judice of West Columbia, SC; two brothers, Carl Whaley and wife Cindy of Richland, NC, and Joe Whaley and wife Lois of Lake Wells, FL.
