Cecil Powell

MYRTLE BEACH -- Cecil Powell, 75, died Tuesday, Mar. 22, 2005 in a local nursing home after an illness.

Mr. Powell was born in Hemingway, a son of the late Eddie and Clara Hughes Powell. He was a retired carpenter and a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Lisa Powell-Elia of Myrtle Beach and her husband Hazy; three grandchildren, Tali Elia, Eliana Elia, and Ariel Elia; his former wife, Betty S. Powell Fischer of Johnsonville; three sisters, Gabrielle Eaddy of Murrells Inlet, and Marilyn Cox and Lyne Stone Carter, both of Hemingway; and two brothers, Mitchell Powell and Edward Powell, both of Hemingway.

Mr. Powell was preceded in death by three brothers, Harvey Powell, Carey Powell, and Hillard Powell.

Graveside funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Mar. 24, 2005 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway. The family will receive friends from 12 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday before the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association Palmetto Chapter, P.O. Box 7044, Columbia, S.C. 29207.

Farris E. Richardson

CONWAY -- Farris E. Richardson, age 53, died Tuesday, Mar. 22, 2005 at Kindred Hospital in Charleston.

Mr. Richardson was born in Conway, a son of Evelyn Victoria Johnson Richardson and the late Brantley Elmore Richardson. He was a member of North Conway Baptist Church and was a 1969 graduate of Conway High School. Mr. Richardson graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachlor of Arts Degree in Political Science.

Surviving in addition to his mother of Conway are one son, Justin Richardson of Columbia; two brothers, Larry Richardson and his wife Missy, of Greenwood and Loren Richardson and his wife Gabriele, of Conway; three nephews, and two nieces.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday from North Conway Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Mezick officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel.

Memorials may be sent to North Conway Baptist Church, Billy Fallaw Ministerial Student Fund, 1608 Sessions Street, Conway, S.C. 29526.

Lewis Allen Rider Sr., U.S.A.F, MSGT., retired

LONGWOOD, N.C. -- Lewis Allen Rider Sr., U.S.A.F., MSGT., retired, 69, of Cardinal Lane N.W., died Tuesday, Mar. 22, 2005 in Loris Healthcare.

Born in Pocahantas County, W.Va., on July 23, 1935, he was a son of Dolly Mullins R. Gulp of Unionville, Va., and the late Randall Rider. He was a retired U.S. Airforce Msgt., having served over twenty-four years and was employed as a machine operator for Grissett Brothers Farms.

Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Tencie Lee Benton Rider of the home; a son, Lewis A. Rider Jr., Socastee; five daughters, Sharon Hardy, Myrtle Beach, Sheila Tyler, Clarkton, N.C., Loretta Trogdan and Amy Trogdan, both of Stanley, N.C. and Shelia Jester, Longwood, N.C.; three brothers, Hubert Rider, Unionville, Va., Larry Rider, Dale City, Va., and Bobby Rider, Hagerstown, Md.; five grandchildren, Jake, Nick, D.J., Katy and Chris.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Mar. 25, 2005 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Brunswick Funeral Service by the Rev. Sam Sarvis. Burial will be in the Smith Cemetery, Ash, N.C. with military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 until 9 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 24, 2005 and at other times from the residence.

Brunswick Funeral Service and Crematory of Shallote, N.C. is serving the family.

Toni Bouchette Robertson

ANDREWS -- Toni Bouchette Robertson, 34, died Tuesday, Mar. 22, 2005 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Robertson was born in Georgetown on Jan. 16, 1971, the daughter of W. Wayne Bouchette and Gaynell Poston Bouchette. She grew up in the Warsaw Community of Williamsburg Co., graduated from Andrews High School, and attended Florence-Darlington Technical College. She was a member of Bloomingvale Baptist Church. Mrs. Bouchette served her church as a Sunday School Teacher and as an assistant in the Children's Church, and the Acteens. She was also a volunteer at Andrews Primary School.

Surviving in addition to her parents of Andrews are her husband, Camdon C. Robertson of Andrews; two sons, Walter Cole Robertson and Wyatt Lee Robertson, both of Andrews; a brother, Walter Wade Bouchette of Andrews; paternal grandparents, Annie Larue Prosser and Charlton Prosser of Scranton; and maternal grandmother, Blanche Inez Poston of Andrews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday afternoon, Mar. 25, 2005, at Bloomingvale Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Earl Alford. Burial will follow in the churchyard. The family will receive friends at the Andrews Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home, Thursday evening, Mar. 24, 2005, from 6 until 8 p.m.

Mayer Funeral Home of Andrews is serving the family.

Marcus Frederick Rogers

TABOR CITY, N.C. -- Marcus Frederick Rogers, 61, died Monday, Mar. 21, 2005. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Thursday in Riverside Cemetery, Nichols, officiated by the Rev. Mike Brown. A service of Inman Funeral Home.

Mary Alice Cribbs Rogers

MULLINS -- Mrs. Mary Alice Cribbs Rogers, 62, wife of Robert C. Rogers, died Tuesday, Mar. 22, 2005 at McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness.

Mrs. Rogers was born Sept. 8, 1942 in Robeson County, N.C., a daughter of the late Marzie and Abiah Barnes Cribbs. She was a daycare owner. Mrs. Rogers was a member of Woodlawn Park Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Rogers in addition to her husband of the home are a son, Ronnie C. Rogers and his wife Denise, of Mullins; two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, four brothers, C.T. Cribbs of Fairmont, N.C., Memory Cribbs of Dillon, Legrand Cribbs of High Point, N.C. and Jimmy Cribbs of Chadbourn, N.C. and a sister, Millie Campbell of Dillon.

Mrs. Rogers was predeceased by four brothers, Sidney Cribbs, Bruce Cribbs, Eldred Cribbs, and Alex Cribbs.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Mar. 25 at Woodlawn Park Baptist Church, with the Rev. Glenn Brown and the Rev. Glenn Ailshie officiating. Burial will follow in Red Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home.

Maurice E. 'Marcel' Thorpe

LITTLE RIVER -- Maurice E. "Marcel" Thorpe, 72, of Little River, died Tuesday, Mar. 22, 2005 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

He was born on Mar. 17, 1933 in Robinson County, a son of the late Harry Lester and Addie Platt Thorpe.

Mr. Thorpe leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Jean C. Thorpe of Little River; four sons, Lewis E. Thorpe of Loris, Roland W. Thorpe Sr. of Laurel Hill, N.C., Jimmy Thorpe of Little River, Michael Devin Thorpe of Aynor; two daughters, Gayle Hales of Aynor, Carol Lampman of Columbia; three brothers, Frank Thorpe of Charleston, John Wesley Thorpe of Fla., Charles "Buck" Thorpe of Seaside, N.C.; two sisters, Callie Floyd of Seaside, N.C., Sally Todd of Shallotte, N.C.; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Lee Funeral Home.
