Retha Leona Turbeville

CONWAY -- Retha Leona Turbeville, 77, wife of Van Buren Turbeville Jr., passed away Tuesday morning, Mar. 22, 2005 at Conway Medical Center.

Mrs. Turbeville was born Dec. 18, 1927, a daughter of Edgar W. Jones and Retha Marie Branton Jones. She was a member of Murrells Inlet Presbyterian Church since 1953 and taught a children's Sunday School Class. She attended Surfside Senior Citizens in her later years. She enjoyed being around people and doing arts and crafts. She was always looking after everyone and she lovingly played the role of "Granny," not only to her own grandchildren, but to all of their friends. She was dearly loved by all of the people whose lives she touched, especially her family, and will deeply be missed.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Turbeville was predeceased by two brothers, J.B. Jones and Harry Jones.

Surviving in addition to her husband of Conway are one son, Van Buren Turbeville III and his wife Crystal, of Georgetown; two daughters, Jenny Marie Altman and her husband "Buddy," Lynne Harris and her husband Tony, both of Murrells Inlet; one brother, E. Walton Jones, and his wife DeAnn; one sister, Lavonia Jones Griffin; nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Thursday, Mar. 24, 2005 at Murrells Inlet Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Robert Ledbetter officiating. Burial, directed by Palmetto Funeral Home will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery.

Palmetto Funeral Home is honored to serve the Turbeville family.

Lizzie Bell Valentine

LONGS -- Lizzie Bell Valentine, 72, died Friday, Mar. 18, 2005. Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Freemont Missionary Baptist Church in Longs, officiated by the Rev. Nathan Vereen. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. United Funeral Home of Loris is in charge of services.

Douglas Wayne Ward

WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Douglas Wayne Ward, 51, died Tuesday, Mar. 22, 2005. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the Inman Chapel, Tabor City, N.C. Visitation will be 7 until 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Shirley R. Watson

CONWAY -- Shirley R. Watson, age 76, of Myrtle Trace Drive, died Thursday, March 17, 2005 at Conway Medical Center following an illness.

Mrs. Watson was born in Baltimore, Md., a daughter of the late Jess Thomas and Paulina Crowder Rogers. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Conway and was a college professor at the University of MD School of Nursing.

Surviving are her husband, Charles Eugene Watson of Conway; one daughter, Deborah Jean Griffith of The Plains, Va.; one son, Mark Veditz, Cuba Naval Base; stepchildren, Charles E. Watson Jr. of Conn., Fred Watson and Susan Clark, both of Ga.; 10 grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Perzynski and Joan Walk, both of Baltimore.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Mar. 26, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church of Conway with the Rev. Ben Barnett officiating.

Memorials may be sent to the First United Methodist Church, Family Life Center, P.O. Box 58, Conway, S.C. 29528.

Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel is in charge.

Wanda Jordan West

CONWAY -- Wanda Jordan West, 62, wife of Acie West Jr., passed away Tuesday morning, Mar. 22, 2005 at the Grand Strand Hospital after a short illness.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Mar. 25, 2005 at Oakey Swamp Baptist Church, directed by Palmetto Funeral Home with the Rev. Pete DeBruhl officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery.

The visitation will be held in the Palmetto Funeral Home Chapel, Thursday, Mar. 24, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Mrs. West was born April 22, 1942, in Conway, a daughter of Larry Bondell Jordan and Alda Barnhill Jordan. Mrs. West was an electrician and worked with her husband in their business known as A&W Electric in Conway. She was a very dedicated Sunday School Teacher at Oakey Swamp Baptist Church. She was loved by everyone who knew her. She could bring light and joy into any situation. To her family, she will always be remembered as the "World's Greatest Mother and Grandmother."

Mrs. West was predeceased by her father, Larry Bondell Jordan, and one brother, Thomas Carlisle Jordan.

Surviving in addition to her husband of Conway are two sons, Joseph Anthony "Tony" West and his wife Brenda, of Socastee, and Barry West of Conway; three daughters, Cathryn Suzanne Hill of Conway; Jennifer West Courtney and her husband Press, of Conway; and Ann Graham (affectionately known as her red-haired stepchild) of Conway; three brothers, Jimmy Jordan and his wife Sylvia, of Conway, Bobby Jordan and his wife Cecilia, of Florence; O.W. Jordan and his wife Susan of Myrtle Beach; two sisters, Elaine Jordan Causey Bridges, and Phyllis Jordan Stalvey of Myrtle Beach; eight grandchildren, Chris and his wife Jennifer, Erica and Dustin Anderson, Brandy West, Sarah and West Courtney, Christan and Mark Graham; one great-grandchild, Fischer Anderson, and a very large, extended family.

Palmetto Funeral Home is honored to serve the West family.

Elizabeth T. White

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Elizabeth T. White, 46, of Sharon Road, died Monday, Mar. 21, 2005.

Born in Greenville, N.C., she was a daughter of Elizabeth Withington White of Myrtle Beach, and the late John Thomas White. Ms. White received her Master's Degree in accounting and was a Senior Accountant with Cousins Properties.

Surviving in addition to her mother are her three sisters, Frances W. Hisashima of Honolulu, Celia W. Clark of Greenville, N.C., and Nancy B. White of Miami; two brothers-in-law, Carl Clark of Greenville, N.C. and David Hisashima of Greenville, N.C.; a niece, Elizabeth Hisashima of Los Angeles; and a nephew, John Hisashima of Honolulu.

A memorial service will be Friday, at 4 p.m. at The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 8901 Highway 17 Bypass, Myrtle Beach. The Rev. Robert Caswell will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the McColl Center for Visual Art, 721 North Tryon St., Charlotte, N.C. 28202.

The Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive, of Charlotte, N.C. is serving the family.

Wendell Wayne Armstrong

GEORGETOWN -- Wendell Wayne Armstrong, 42, died Friday, April 1, 2005. Viewing will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Wilds Courtyard Chapel. Funeral service will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow. Wilds Funeral Home is in charge.

Kathleen Marie Brookins

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH -- Kathleen Marie Brookins, 51, died Monday, April 4, 2005. Arrangements will be announced by Lee Funeral Home & Crematory of Little River/North Myrtle Beach.

Francesca Maria DiMisa Bond

CONWAY -- Francesca Maria DiMisa Bond, 87, died Monday, April 4, 2005. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Conway Funeral Services.

Carla G. Cannon

CONWAY -- Mrs. Carla G. Cannon, age 75, passed away on March 31, 2005, in Conway after a brief illness.

She was born on Aug. 19, 1929, in Brooklyn, N.Y. and was the daughter of the late Alfred Lawrence Glaeser and Mabel Hasling Glaeser. She was predeceased by her husband of thirty-three years, Harry Walker Cannon, in 1984.

Carla retired to Conway in 1996 from Westfield, N.J., where she taught school for twenty-nine years. She graduated from the University of Delaware with a B.S. in education in 1951. She was active in St. Paul's Episcopal Church as a Lay Eucharistic Minister, Lay Reader and Altar Guild. Carla was also a member of P.E.O., volunteered at Conway Hospital, was active in the Myrtle Trace community and read regularly to local school children, continuing her love of teaching and education.

Survivors include four children, Harry Walker Cannon III of Pacific Beach, Calif., Donna Cannon Colavecchio and husband, Gary, of New Hartford, Conn., Elise Cannon Wolfe and husband, William, of Dublin, Ohio, Jayne Cannon Stock and husband, Kurt, of Peachtree City, Ga.; a brother, Alfred Lawrence Glaeser and wife, Janet, of Salt Lake City, Utah; a sister-in-law, Mary Louise Clapperton and husband, Raymond, of Moorestown, N.J.; and eight grandchildren, Leigh and Thomas Colavecchio, William, Scott and Erin Wolfe, Allison, Jeffrey and Wade Stock; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Conway, on Saturday, April 9, 2005 at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church Building Fund, 710 Main Street, Conway, SC 29526.

Arrangements have been entrusted to McKiever Funeral Home, Inc. of Conway.
