CONWAY -- John I. Dewitt died Aug. 5, 2004. Visitation will be at 3226 Old Nelson Road, Conway. Arrangements will be announced later by Rhue's Mortuary.

Willie G. Dozier

RAINS, S.C. -- Willie George Dozier, 83, died Wednesday, August 4, 2004, at Marion County Medical Center after an illness.

Born September 16, 1920 in Marion County, he was a son of the late James Allen Dozier Sr., and Alma Smith Dozier. Mr. Dozier was a member of Reedy Creek Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Richard Perry Sunday School Class and a former deacon. He was a veteran in WWII and retired from the S.C. Highway Department Maintenance Division. He was predeceased by his wife: Louise Grice Dozier.

Surviving is a son: Michael L. Dozier Sr. of Rains; daughter and son-in-law: Mary Louise Dozier Cox and Alva Reese Cox Sr. of Leesville; grandchildren and grandchildren-in-law: Alva Reese Cox Jr. and Kasey Cox, Kevin Dozier Cox and Debra Cox, Cynthia C. Roberson and David Roberson, Melanie D. Jones and Rhett Jones, Michael L. Dozier Jr. and Margie Dozier, Carla Dozier, and Caroline Dozier Holder and Jack Holder; 11 great grandchildren; a loving brother and sister-in-law: James Allen Dozier Jr. and Martha B. Dozier of Rains; several nieces and nephews-in-law; and a special loving cousin: Laver Dozier.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 6, form 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Smith-Collins Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 7, at Reddy Creek Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Reddy Creek Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Reedy Creek Baptist Church, 2508 South Hwy 501, Marion, S.C. 29571.

Calob "Kay" Sherman Duelley

GEORGETOWN -- Calob "Kay" Sherman Duelley, 83, died Wednesday, August 4, 2004. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, August 6, at Graham Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 7, at 2 p.m. in Wayne United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at 4:30 p.m. in Carolina Memorial Park in North Charleston, directed by the funeral home.

Ruby Farewell

LORIS -- Ruby Farewell, 76, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004. Visitation will be at 2418 Hwy 9 Bus. East, Loris. Arrangements will be announced later by United Funeral Home.

Harry Dillard Hardy Jr.

ASTOR, Fla. -- Harry Dillard Hardy Jr., 73, died Thursday, August 5, 2004 at his home in Astor, Fla.

Born in Bassett, Va., he lived in Astor for the past 18 year after moving there from Myrtle Beach. He served his country in two tours of duty with the U.S. Army and Navy during peacetime. While in Myrtle Beach he owned and operated the Idle Hour Bingo parlor, and Harry's Amoco Service Station and Wrecker Service. After moving to Astor in 1986 he owned and operated the Tangerine Motel in Crescent City from 1987 to 2001 and the Astora Motel in Astor for the past 18 years. Mr. Hardy was an avid car collector and of his prized automobiles was the 1940 Ford of which he owned 63 in his lifetime. In Myrtle Beach he was a member of the Chicora Antique Car Club. He enjoyed NASCAR both as a fan and a driver and was also friends with many of the professional drivers. He was also a fan of the New York Yankees Baseball Team.

He is survived by wife of 42 years: Cretty Hardy of Astor, Fla.; a son: Wayne (Faith) Hardy of Deland, Fla.; a daughter: Dee (David) Gay of Pierson, Fla.; sister: Shirley Holcomb of Snydorsville, Va.; and grandchildren: Brittany and Elizabeth Hardy, Justin, Micah and Lauren Gay.

The family will gather to receive friends and family at the funeral home for visitation from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, August 7. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 8, in Eden Cemetery with Rev. Howard Cox officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Clayton Frank & Biggs Funeral Home, Crescent City, Fla.

Natarsha McCray Hendley

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. -- Natarsha McCray Hendley, 33, of Fayetteville, Ga., died August 2, 2004, in Fayetteville, Ga.

Mrs. Hendley was born August 4, 1970 in Georgetown, S.C., a daughter of Elder Johnny McCray and Flora Sumpter. She attended the University of S.C, Columbia, S.C., and Piedmont College, Athens Ga. And went on to teach 8th Grande English at the Hendley County School District. She was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and the Georgia Teacher's Association. She was also a member of the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, Lithonia, Ga.

Surviving are her husband: Gary Hendley of Fayetteville, Ga.; her daughter: Jasmine Hendley of Fayetteville, Ga.; her father and mother: Elder Johnny McCray and Flora McCray Sumpter, both of Hemingway, S.C.; two brothers: Johnny Ray McCray of Columbia, S.C. and Fernando Sumpter of Georgetown, S.C.; and four sisters: Dedra McCray of Lithonia, Ga., Sarea McCray of College Park, Ga., Akeeva Sumpter, and Desiree Sumpter, Both of Georgetown, S.C.

Visitation will be Friday, August 6, at 6 p.m. at Wilds Courtyard Chapel. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, August 7, at Carver's Bay High School, with burial in the Sumpter Family Cemetery in Georgetown County, S.C. Wilds Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Patrick Joseph Kenny

MYRTLE BEACH -- Patrick Joseph Kenny, 83, of Myrtle Street, died Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at his home following an illness.

Mr. Kenny was born on October 23, 1920 in Kilkenny, Ireland, a son of the late Patrick and Elizabeth Tobin Kenny. He came to the U.S. by way of Ellis Island in 1927. He graduated from Roosevelt High School, Bronx, N.Y. in 1939. He was a WWII veteran serving in the South Pacific with the 187th Parachute Infantry, Company E, 11th Airborne Division. He was the recipient of the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart and a Battlefield Commission. He moved to Myrtle Beach in 1954 and became manager of the first A&P Supermarket in Myrtle Beach at 6th Ave. S. in 1960.

Mr. Kenny was a member of Saint Andrew Catholic Church where he was a member of the Adult Choir and The Knights of Columbus. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 40 where he served two terms as Post Commander and one term as Chef de Gare of the Forty and Eight. Mr. Kenny was named to the National Legion Post in 1960 where he served on the Education and Scholarship Committee. He was very active in the PTA and was a lifetime Seahawk Booster. He served on the Board of Directors for the Horry County Shelter Home, the Horry Youth Club, and Seaside Emmaus Community. Always working in Food Service, he retired from Myrtle Beach Seafood Company in 1984. He later worked part time at McMillan-Small Funeral Home.

He is predeceased by his son: Patrick J. Kenny III; his brother: Terrence Kenny; his sisters: Bea Shaunessy and Frances Chadwick; and son-in-law: Herbie Hart.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years: Aisley Love Kenny; two daughters: Terry Gaskin and her husband, Rick, of Pawleys Island, S.C. and Debbie Hart of the home; four grandchildren: Kerri Gaskin of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Erin Gaskin of Sarasota, Fla., Calvin Hart and Keegan Hart of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two sisters: Mary McKay of Morganville, N.J. and Betty Meyer of Schooleys Mountain, N.J. and a special little buddy: Micheal Ray Skipper of Myrtle Beach, SC.

The family will receive friends at McMillan-Small Funeral Home on Friday August 6, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a Christian Prayer Service at 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 7, 2004 at Saint Andrew Catholic Church. Burial with Military Honors will follow the service at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Saint Andrew Catholic Church 503-37th Ave. N., Myrtle Beach, S.C. 29577, the American Legion Post #40, 5811 Creekside Drive, Myrtle Beach, S.C. 29575 or Mercy Hospice of Horry County, P.O. Box 50640, Myrtle Beach, S.C. 29578.

Eugene Long

ASH, N.C. -- Eugene Long, 55, died Thursday Aug. 5, 2004 Arrangements will be announced by Brunswick Funeral Service of Shallotte, N.C.

Richard "Pops" Nuttall

MURRELLS INLET -- Richard "Pops" Nuttall, 59, died Monday, August 2, 2004 at his home following an illness.

Born March 21, 1945 in Allen Park, Mich., he was a son of the late Harry and Kattie Wimberly Nuttall. Mr. Nuttall was a U.S. Army Veteran, and was a friend to many at The Whale Bar & Grill.

Survivors include one son: Richard Nuttall of Murrells Inlet; one daughter: Richel Deilman of Columbus, Ohio; one grandson: David Deilman; and one sister: Betty Goodwin of Detroit, Mich.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at The Whale Bar & Grill. Grand Strand Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.

GEORGETOWN -- Vickie Page, 54, died Wednesday, August 4, 2004. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Graham Funeral Home.

Kenneth "Ronnie" Strickland

GREEN SEA -- Kenneth "Ronnie" Strickland, 56, died Tuesday, August 3, 2004 in Loris Hospital.

Mr. Strickland was a native of Horry County and the son of Pete Strickland and the late Quilla Ree Fowler Strickland.

He is survived by his wife: Mary Strickland of Green Sea, S.C.; 2 sons: Kenneth Strickland of Fair Bluff, N.C. and Johnny Strickland of Myrtle Beach; one daughter: Margaret Duncan of Green Sea; 2 brothers: Joe Strickland and Stevie Strickland, both of Green Sea; one sister: Judy Anderson of Green Sea; father: Pete Strickland of Green Sea; and 5 grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday August 5, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Inman Funeral Home.
