Sharon Michelle Webster

ATLANTA -- Miss Sharon Michelle Webster, 31, formerly of Lake City, S.C., died Wednesday, August 4, 2004, from injuries she received in an automobile accident.

Miss Webster was born in Florence, S.C., a daughter of James Ryan and Marilyn Driggers Webster. She graduated with honors from Lake City High School, where she was a cheerleader. She was a graduate of Francis Marion University and was employed as Area Development Manager for Kumon Learning Center in Atlanta. She had traveled extensively and was a former teacher in Columbia, Sumter, and Germany. She was a member of Lake City First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her parents: Ryan and Marilyn Webster of Conway; one sister: Shannon W. (Mark) Josephs of North Myrtle Beach; one nephew: Brock Josephs of North Myrtle Beach; and niece: Blair Josephs of North Myrtle Beach.

The family will have visitation from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, August 6, at Brockington Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 7, in the funeral home chapel with burial in the Lake City Memorial Park.

John D. "J.D." Williams

LORIS -- Mr. John D. "J.D." Williams, 82, died Thursday, August 5, 2004. Visitation will be held on Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hardwick Funeral Home. Arrangements will be announced by Hardwick Funeral Home.

James Worley

CONWAY -- James Worley, 86, of Dunn Shortcut Road, died Wednesday, August 4, 2004 following an illness.

Mr. Worley was born in War Shoals, S.C., a son of the late William and Cora Butler Worley. He was a U.S. Army Veteran.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Patricia Worley of Conway, are one son: James Patrick Worley of Conway; and three daughters: Charlotte W. Thomas of Penn., Betty J. Worley of Lexington, and Jeannie E. Worley of Conway.

Funeral Services will be held privately by the family. Palmetto Funeral Home of Hwy 378 Conway is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mercy Hospice, P.O. Box 50640 Myrtle Beach, S.C. 29579, or to the Associated Charity, 742 8th Ave. North, Myrtle Beach, S.C. 29577

Carrie Carter Ard

SUMTER -- Carrie Carter Ard, 91, wife of the late Fairy L. Ard, died Saturday, Mar. 26, 2005. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway. Interment will follow in Prevatte Cemetery. Visitation will be 12 to 1 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service.

Noah Bryant Cooper

MULLINS -- Noah Bryant Cooper, died Sunday, Mar. 27, 2005 at Mullins Nursing Center. Arrangements will be announced by Meares Funeral Home of Mullins.

Von Alton Currie

SHALLOTTE, N.C. -- Von Alton Currie, 69, died Sunday, Mar. 27, 2005. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, in the Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow in the Davis-Register Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Lorenza Dale Graham

PAMPLICO -- Lorenza Dale Graham, 48, died Thursday, Mar. 24, 2005. Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, at The Cherry Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Conway, with visitation beginning at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in The Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Rhue's Mortuary is serving the family.

Rebecca Elmore Layton

BISHOPVILLE -- Rebecca Elmore Layton, of Ashwood, died Saturday, Mar. 26, 2005 at an area hospital.

She was a sister of Charlie "Bobbie" Elmore of Garden City Beach.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John United Methodist Church in the Springhill Community. Burial will follow in the Ashwood Baptist Church Cemetery.

Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of arrangements.

Richard M. Owens

HEMINGWAY -- Richard M. Owens, 58, died Friday, Mar. 25, 2005. Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway is serving the family.

Nathaniel Rucker

MYRTLE BEACH -- Nathaniel Rucker, 57, died Saturday, Mar. 26, 2005 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Hospital following a short illness. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Grand Strand Funeral Home and Crematory of Myrtle Beach.

Colonel George Stone Saussey Jr.

PAWLEYS ISLAND -- Colonel George Stone Saussy Jr., U.S.M.C., Ret. passed away Sunday morning, Mar. 27, 2005, after a long illness. He was 83.

Colonel Saussy served on active duty in the United States Marine Corps for 27 years and received numerous awards including "The Distinguished Flying Cross" and "The Legion of Merit."

He entered Platoon Leaders Class in 1939 and deployed with the Third Marine Division, Third Tank Battalion, to New Zealand in 1942. He landed at Bouganville and fought as a scout platoon leader. He became a Naval Air Observer and participated in the Guam, Saipan, and Okinawa Operations and was awarded "The Distinguished Flying Cross" and "Air Medal."

After the war, he served aboard the U.S.S. Topeka (CL67) as Marine Detachment Commander on China Service.

He later served as Commanding Officer of the first Amtrac Battalion in the defense of the Imjin River during the Korean War.

He subsequently served at Marine Corps Schools in Quantico and at Headquarters Marine Corps.

He returned to South Carolina to complete his Bachelors Degree at the University of S.C. in 1960, and then served as Senior Marine Corps Instructor at the U.S. Army Armor School in Fort Knox, Ky. There he was awarded "The Army Legion of Merit." He also supervised Girl Scout activities at Fort Knox.

Colonel Saussy served two tours with the Joint Command and Control Group of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon.

He retired from the United States Marine Corps in 1967 to Litchfield Beach, where he directed and taught at Winyah Academy for 7 years. He then taught at Waccamaw Middle School for 12 years, where he was twice recognized as "Teacher of the Year." During this time he earned his Masters Degree in Education from the University of S.C.

He was born in Charleston to Florence Perry Saussy and George Stone Saussy Sr. The family moved to Columbia, where he graduated from Columbia High School and attended the University of S.C. He married Jennie Scarborough Parker of Sumter on July 11, 1942 at Christ Church, Philadelphia, Pa.

Colonel Saussy is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jennie Parker Saussy; sons, Thornwell Parker Saussy of Georgetown and George S. Saussy III and daughter-in-law Bonnie Inabinet Saussy of Pawleys Island, and their children and grandchildren; siblings, Hampton Perry Saussy of Library, Pa., Florence Saussy Foley of Columbia, and David Lamb Saussy of Savannah, Ga.; and many beloved nieces, nephews, former students, and friends.

Colonel Saussy was a communicant of All Saints Church, Waccamaw, where he was active and served as Lay Reader for 30 years.

The family respectfully asks for no visits or gifts of food at their residence at this time.

Colonel Saussy wishes were that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the charity of one's choice. "Press On."

Arrangements will be announced by Mayer Funeral Home of Georgetown.
