Colie Pope
LANCASTER - Mr. Colie "C. L." Pope, 87, of 4949 Pageland Hwy. died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998.
The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. today at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Revs. Don Coppedge and Sam Watts officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
A York County native, Mr. Pope was a retired lieutenant with the city of Lancaster Police Department where he worked for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Wannamaker Masonic Lodge No. 329 and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Jake H. Pope and Jack R. Pope, both of Lancaster; his daughter, Frances Pope Clifton of Lancaster; his sister, Margaret Chamberts of Fort Mill; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1841 N. Rocky River Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Violet Rollings
PAGELAND - Mrs. Violet S. Rollings, 72, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at her home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Mrs. Rollings was born in Chesterfield County.
Surviving are her husband, Curtis Rollings of Pageland; two daughters, Billy M. Sneed of York and Donna R. Price of Jefferson; her sister, Lucille Plyler of Pageland; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Sutton Funeral Home in Pageland.

David Smith
HEATH SPRINGS - Mr. David Bishop "Pete" Smith, 50, of 1400 Flint Ridge Road died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and a funeral service will be 8 p.m. with the Rev. Bobby Owens officiating.
On Thursday, the family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Gallivants Ferry and a funeral service will be 2 p.m., with the Rev. Lloyd Williamson officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Born in Loris, Mr. Smith was a member of Temple Baptist Church and was retired from Springs Industries.
Surviving are his wife, Annette "Sister" Singleton Smith; two sons, David Richard Smith and Anthony Bishop Smith, both of Heath Springs; two daughters, Cristy Todd of Lancaster and Leah Peavy of Kershaw; his brother, Bill Smith of Gallivants Ferry; four sisters, Geraldine Cribb of Myrtle Beach, Sally Schultz of Laceyville, Pa., Lena Alford of Lancaster and Eloise Strickland of St. Paul, N.C.; his stepbrother, Tom Huggins of Leesville; three stepsisters, Evelyn Ray of Columbia, Gertrude Perritt and Esther Edwards, both of Gallivants Ferry; and four grandchildren.

Dorothy Thacker
FORT MILL - Mrs. Dorothy B. Thacker, 63, of 4038 Windward Drive, Tega Cay, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Lake Wylie Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Park in Rock Hill.
Born in Atlanta, Mrs. Thacker was a retired accountant for Wikoff Color Corporation. She was active in the Tega Cay Lioness' Club and was past president of the Fort Mill Band Boosters. She was a member of Lake Wylie Lutheran Church where she was financial secretary and a member of the ladies' circle.
Surviving are her husband, Harry L. Thacker Jr. of Tega Cay; her son, Greg Jones of Hampton; three daughters, Lori Jones of Tega Cay, Beverly Jones of Spartanburg and Heather Collins of Fort Mill; her brother, Frank Beall of Riverdale, Ga.; two sisters, Marie Evans of Austin, Texas, and Jane Childers of Jacksonville, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Whitesell-Wolfe Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Helen Walker
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Helen Walker of 565 Washington St. died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Robinson Funeral Home.

Martin Walters
CHARLOTTE - Mr. Martin Luther Walters, 87, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at Presbyterian Hospital.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Northside Baptist Church in Charlotte, with the Revs. Glenn Stevenson, Martin L. Walters Jr. and Dr. G. Kenneth Walters officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.
Born in Concord, Mr. Walters graduated from Peachland School in Peachland, N.C. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church where he was a member of the Jolly Sixties and was a deacon. During World War II, he was in the Civilian Conservation Corps and was a fireman on the Seaboard Railroad. He worked at the U.S. Naval Ammunition Depot in Charlotte and the Morris Field Hospital where he conducted chapel services. He was retired from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system maintenance department after 25 years of service.
Surviving are his wife, Elsie Preslar Walters of the home; three sons, Martin L. Walters Jr. of Wake Forest, N.C., G. Kenneth Walters of Rock Hill and Dwight M. Walters of Lawrenceville, Ga.; three daughters, Carolyn Walters Williams of Grand Rapids, Mich., Vivian Walters Brooks and Joyce Walters Taylor, both of Charlotte; 19 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at McEwen Funeral Home.

Ida Whiteside
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Ida Isom Whiteside of 1914 Doby Drive died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The family will receive friends at 231 Washington Court.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Robinson Funeral Home.

William Wilson
BLACKSBURG - Mr. William Bennett Wilson, 74, of 303 W. Lime St. died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Blacksburg, with the Rev. Ken Reid officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
A Greenville County native, Mr. Wilson was a member of First Baptist Church where he was a deacon, a choir member and a Sunday school teacher. He worked at Gordon Mortuary for over 30 years where he was an EMT and a funeral director's assistant. He was the owner and operator of Wilson Florist in Blacksburg. He was a former member of Blacksburg Rotary, where he was a past president.
Surviving are his wife, Lois McDaniel Wilson; two daughters, Kyle Wilson of Blacksburg and Donna Wilson Robinson of Lancaster; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Gordon Mortuary.
The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

James Young Sr.
BLACKSTOCK - Mr. James Kenneth "Pimp" Young Sr., 40, of 1968 Overlook Road died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, with the Rev. T.G. Green officiating and the Revs. Moses Lightener and J.E. Darby assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A Chester County native, Mr. Young was a member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, where he was a trustee. He was a 1976 graduate of Chester High School. He was employed with Charles K. Dolittle Logging Co.
Surviving are his wife, Sherry Craig Young of the home; his son, James Kenneth Young Jr. of the home; two daughters, Tiwana Young and Antonya Young, both of the home; his stepmother, Shirley Young of Chester; and five brothers, Coleman Lee Young of Richburg, Harold Young and Ulysses Young, both of Chester, and Floyd Young and Willie Burt Young, both of Winnsboro.
The family will receive friends at the home.
The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. today.
King's Funeral Home is in charge.

Francis Baker
ROCK HILL - Mr. Francis "Shorty" Baker, 84, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Revs. William Shytle and Marion Pressley officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.
Born in Kershaw County, Mr. Baker was retired from Rock Hill Printing & Finishing. He was a member of York Masonic Lodge No. 385, where he was a past master. He was a member of Pineridge Baptist Church. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.
Surviving are three sons, Joe Baker of Fayetteville, Ga., D. Alton Baker and Wade Norman Baker, both of Rock Hill; his daughter, Reba Goodwin of Rock Hill; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and other times at the home of Reba Goodwin, 2590 Mount Holly Road.

Sarah Bradley
LANCASTER - Mrs. Sarah Ada Wheeler Bradley, 73, of 1431 Winthrop Ave. died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at her home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Second Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. James D. Spencer III officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.
Born in Lancaster, Mrs. Bradley was a member of Second Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher. She was retired from Springs Industries. She was the widow of Charlie Edward Bradley Sr.
Surviving are her son, Charlie Edward Bradley Jr. of Germany; three daughters, Linda Etters, Jackie McCorkle and Linda Bailey, all of Lancaster; her brother, Arthur Wheeler of Concord; two sisters, Elizabeth Green of Hattisburg, N.C., and Minna Threatt of Winston-Salem, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Thomas Broome
LANCASTER - Mr. Thomas Broome, 84, of 302 Wylie Park Road died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at McCoy Nursing Home in Bishopville.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Hartley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Curtis Cameron and Bill Sumner officiating. Burial will follow at Long Branch Baptist Church cemetery in Jefferson.
Born in Chesterfield County, Mr. Broome was a retired security guard with Springs Industries, Lancaster plant He also was a member of the Church of God.
Surviving are his wife, Carrie Donahue Broome of the home; three sons, Jackie Broome of Lugoff, James Broome and Gary Broome, both of Lancaster; five daughters, Louise Broome Hall of Bishopville, Margie Broome Appleton of Lugoff, Judy Broome Hammond of Lancaster, Frances Broome Coffey of Pensacola, Fla., and Sylvia Broome of the home; two sisters, Ida Mae Donahue of Lancaster and Sadie Mendell of Pensacola, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nine step-grandchildren.

Edna Caldwell
CHESTER - Mrs. Edna Strong Caldwell, 66, of 118 Odom St. died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at Chester County Hospital.
The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday at King's Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ronald O. McClurkin officiating and the Revs. Eugene Canty, Paul Long, Jessie Boulware and Moses Lightener assisting. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
A Chester native, Mrs. Caldwell was a retired domestic worker. She was a member of Old Wilson Baptist Church. She was educated in the public schools of Fairfield County. She was the widow of Johnny Caldwell.
Surviving are four sons, David Strong of Charlotte, Miller Jackson Jr. and Carlthel Jackson, both of Chester, and Anthony Caldwell of Newberry; four daughters, Florence McClurkin, Lillie Davis and Gloria Lane, all of Chester, and Elaine Osel of Shelby, N.C.; five brothers, Frank Strong of Rock Hill, David Charles Strong of Charlotte, Robert Strong, James Strong and Willie Strong, all of Chester; four sisters, Sarah Mills of Rock Hill, Lugenia Caldwell, Alice Mae Caldwell and Pauline Williams, all of Chester; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home of the Rev. and Mrs. Ronald McClurkin, 127 Carr St.

Jimmie Cloud Sr.
FORT LAWN - Mr. Jimmie L. Cloud Sr., 78, of 5415 Baxter Drive died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at United Pentecostal Church in Rock Hill, with the Rev. D. L. Erickson officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Lawn Cemetery.
Born in Chester County, Mr. Cloud was a member of United Pentecostal Church and was retired from Morrison Textile Machinery. He was the widower of Ruby Lee Boulware Cloud.
Surviving are four sons, Thomas Jordan of Charlotte, Earl A. Cloud of Great Falls, and Donald G. Cloud and Rodney Cloud, both of Fort Lawn; eight daughters, Frances Crawford, Tammy Lineberger, Gloria Williams, Betty Williams and Angela Foster, all of Fort Lawn, Annie Patterson, Janett Boulware and Margaret Graham, all of Great Falls; her sister, Eunice Ingram of Baltimore, Md.; two granddaughters that he reared, Carla Howze and Tasha Cloud; 44 other grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at King's Funeral Home.
The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Sunday.
