Sank Anderson Sr.

WINNSBORO — Services for Deacon Sank L. Anderson, Sr., 85, will be held 2 p.m. Friday (viewing at 1 p.m.) in the Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church, Richtex, with burial in the church’s cemetery. Leevy’s Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel, is in charge. Surviving are his wife, Rufine Anderson; daughter, Vivian Watkins; sons, Sanka Anderson, Jr., Melvin Anderson, and James Anderson; stepmother, Annie T. Anderson; 6 stepsisters; 3 stepbrothers; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren.

Grace Couch

HEATH SPRINGS — Services for Grace Neal Couch will be held Thursday, December 30, 2004, at 1:00 p.m. from Flint Ridge Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Couch, 89, died Tuesday, December 28, 2004. She was the daughter of the late Robert P. and Bertha Floyd Neal, and was married to the late Floyd A. Couch.

Surviving are 2 daughters, Brenda Hilliard, Heath Springs, SC, and Annette Pickett, Maryville, TN; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and a brother, William T. Neal of Jacksonville, Fla.

The family will receive friends following the burial, in the church fellowship hall.

Memorials may be made to the Flint Ridge Baptist Church, Building Fund, 1850 Flint Ridge Road, Heath Springs, SC 29058.

Baker Funeral Home, Kershaw, is serving the family of Mrs. Couch.

William Cauthen

KERSHAW — Services with burial for William Edward Cauthen, 80, farmer, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Hanging Rock United Methodist Church. Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home. Born in Kershaw to Robert and Ethel Williams Cauthen, he died December 28, 2004. Surviving: brother, Blake Cauthen; sisters, Earlene Phillips, Erma Huckabee; nieces and nephews.

Janet Duke

NEW ZION — Mrs. Janet Latta Duke, 63, died Wednesday in a Manning hospital.

Mrs. Duke was born in Michigan, a daughter of Gertrude Van Dyke Latta and James B. Latta. She was educated in Georgetown schools and was a homemaker. Mrs. Duke was a member of Midway Presbyterian Church and the Women of the Church. She was a poll manager for the Workman Precinct for 32 years.

Survivors: husband, Thomas Allen Duke of New Zion; 2 daughters, Wyndie D. Yarborough and husband Tracy of Coward, and Tammie D. Taylor and husband Terry of New Zion; 1 son, Tim A Duke and wife Mary of New Zion; Grandchildren, Brandon M. Taylor, Brittany A. Taylor, Katie L. Yarborough, Kelsey D. Yarborough, and Robbie A. Duke; 1 sister, Kay Komahrens of Summerville; 1 brother, Ronnie Latta of Tega Cay.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Midway Presbyterian Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Thursday. The family requests that memorials be made to Midway Presbyterian Church or Clarendon Memorial Hospital.

Elbert Darnell

DENMARK — Services for Charlie Elbert Darnell, 83, of Denmark will be held 2 p.m. Friday, December 31, 2004, at Ghents Branch Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at Mercer Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Ghents Branch Baptist Church Family Life Center, 886 Ghents Branch Rd., Denmark, SC 29042.

Mr. Darnell died Dec. 28, 2004. Born in Bamberg County, a son of the late Sam and Martha Darnell. Member of Ghents Branch Baptist church, an Army Veteran of World War II, and widower of Gladys Blume Darnell.

Surviving, sons, Charles (Jeanette) Darnell of Hannahan, James (Martha) Darnell of Cayce, Marion “Rock” Darnell and his fiancee Christine Joyner of Bamberg. Grandchildren and great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Barbara Fennell

KINGSTREE — Mrs. Barbara Huggins Fennell, 81, died Wednesday in Kingstree.

Mrs. Fennell was born in Hemingway, a daughter of Lois Dantzler Huggins and T. Eugene Huggins, Sr. She received her education in Hemingway schools and at Winthrop College. Mrs. Fennell was a homemaker and a dedicated mother, and an active member of Kingstree United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, R. Cleo Fennell, former Superintendent of Education in Williamsburg County.

Survivors: 2 daughters, Saundra F. (William H.) Dyson of Georgetown, Pamela F. (John Yancey) McGill of Kingstree; 1 son, Ralph C. Fennell, Jr. of Kingstree; 3 sisters, Frances Ann Bradham of Cary, NC, Lois Jean Williams of Irmo, and Mary Judith Purcell of Kingstree; 1 brother, T.E. Huggins, Jr. of Hemingway; 6 grandchildren, William Henry Dyson, IV, Barton F. Dyson, Brad B. Fennell, Lisa M. Tuorto, John Y. McGill, Jr. and Margaret Ann McGill; 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 3:00 p.m. Graveside in the Old Johnsonville Cemetery in Johnsonville, SC. The family will receive visitors at the Kingstree United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thursday. The family asks that memorials be made to Kingstree United Methodist Church.

James Duncan

TRAVELERS REST — Services for James Lewis Duncan, 92, widower of Lula Youngblood Duncan, are 3 p.m. (visitation 1:30-3 p.m.) today at The Howze Mortuary; burial in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Born in Greenville Co. to James Louis Sr. and Rachel McCauley Duncan, he died Dec. 29, 2004. Surviving: children, Rachel Coward, Linda Jenkins, Jerry Duncan; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild.

Baxter Fogle

NORTH — Baxter T. Fogle, 81, of North, died Tuesday, December 28, 2004.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, December 31, 2004, at Hopewell Southern Methodist Church in Neeses with Rev. Nathaniel Waites and Mike Jeffcoat officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be George Crim, Bruce Fogle, Glenn Keadle, Al Fogle, Randy McKissick, Jay Legrand, Kevin Fogle, Derek Fogle, and Sean Hoots. Honorary pallbearers will be Wesley Legrand, Russ McKissick, Bert Pooser, Dr. Wesley Shuler, Joe Fogle, L.A. Crim, Michael Whetstone, Sam Crim, Lyman Fogle and Ken Fogle.

Mr. Fogle was born in North, a son of the late Joe W. and Olivia Tindall Fogle. He was a lifetime member of Hopewell Southern Methodist Church, serving as Trustee, Steward, Chairman of the Board, and Sunday School Teacher of the Primary Class. He also served in all offices of the church for many years. He was the founder of the Hopewell Cemetery Fund committee. He was a retired carpenter, as well as a farmer. He worked for Daniel Construction for over 20 years. He was married to the late Enerie T. Fogle for 33 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Deborah F. and husband David Hoots of Philadelphia, PA; two sons: Duane and wife Jan Fogle of Lexington, and Chet and wife Cindy Fogle of Philadelphia; five grandchildren: Sean and Dana Hoots, and Kevin and Kristina Fogle, all of Philadelphia, and Derek Fogle of Lexington; four sisters: Maggie Lou Crim of North; Hansee Shuler of Cameron; and Maxine McKissick and Nell Argoe, both of Columbia.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home in North.

Memorials may be made to Hopewell Southern Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Duane Fogle, 124 Shirway Rd, Lexington, SC, 29073.

James Hancock

ROCK HILL — Services for James Lewis Hancock, 75, USAF veteran, will be 4 p.m. (visitation 3-4 p.m.) today at Bass Cauthen Funeral Home; private burial. Born in Bland Co., Va., to Samuel and Annie L. Hancock, he died Dec. 28, 2004. Surviving: spouse, Mildred Scott Hancock; children, Gary and Rebecca Hancock, Kris Talley; brother, Larry Hancock; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Beatrice Hough

CAMDEN — Funeral services for Beatrice Goodale Hough, 101, will be held on Friday, December 31, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Camden with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Rev. Bill Howard and Rev. Todd Horton will officiate. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 30, 2004, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel. Memorials may be made to A. Sam Karesh Longterm Care, Haile & Roberts Street, Camden, SC 29020 or to First Baptist Church of Camden, 1201 Broad Street, Camden, SC 29020.

Mrs. Hough, widow of Leroy T. Hough, died Tuesday, December 28, 2004. Born in Camden, she was the daughter of the late James Kershaw and Carrie Swing Goodale. She had retired from C&S Bank and was a member of First Baptist Church and the Sunshine Club.

Surviving are daughters, Bea Fields and her husband, Bruce, of Camden, and Ann Anderson of Lugoff; sons, John L. Hough of Camden, and Bill Hough and his wife, Irene, of Lugoff; 17 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Emily G. Callaham of Columbia; numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hough was predeceased by 3 grandchildren, 6 brothers, and 1 son-in-law. The family wishes to express deepest appreciation to the administration and staff of the A. Sam Karesh Longterm Care Wing for their loving care of Mrs. Hough and her family.

Charles Mack

COLUMBIA — Services for Mr. Charles Edward Mack, 54, will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 31, 2004, at Canaan Baptist Church, Branchville, SC, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be this evening at 7:00 p.m. at Palmer Memorial Chapel.

Mr. Mack died on Tuesday, December 28, 2004. He was the son of the late Jacob and Margie Mack. He was employed with Orangeburg School District 5.

Surviving are his companion of 25 year, Joann Grant; daughters, Shaunte’ M. Cooper, Thenessa M. Palmer and Jewell O. Mack and son, LaShon Brown; mother; sisters, Maytha Green, Eddie Mae Montgomery, Delores Snells, and Clary Green; brother, Jacob Mack; 3 grandchildren.
