Freida Stegall
LANCASTER - Mrs. Freida Linker Stegall, 77, of the Lancaster Convalescent Center, died Friday, January 16, 1998.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Hartley Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Kevin Cooley officiating.
Mrs. Stegall was retired from Springs Industries as a Cloth Inspector at the Lancaster Plant and was a member of Camp Creek United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her son, Nathan Stegall of Lancaster; her daughter, Jessie Gilliam of Roanoke, Va.; two sisters, Mae Atchley of Monroe, N.C. and Pearl Helms of Indian Trail, N.C.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Hartley Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Camp Creek United Methodist Church, 4721 Great Falls Hwy., Lancaster SC 29720 or to the Lancaster County Council on Aging, 304 W. Gay St., Lancaster, SC 29720.

H. Clayton Taylor Sr.
YORK - Mr. H. Clayton Taylor Sr., 60, of 1451 Black Hwy. died Thursday, January 15, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Filbert Presbyterian Church in York, with the Rev. Wallace Tinsley officiating, and Dr. James Mooney assisting. Burial will be at Woodlawn Presbyterian Church in Sharon.
Mr. Taylor was a retired Lance Cracker Salesman and was the owner and operator of Clayton Taylor Reality and York Mini Warehouses and U-Haul Company. He was also a past master of the York Philanthropic Masonic Lodge #32 and a member of York Gideons. Mr. Taylor was also a member of Filbert Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Rebecca Jones Taylor of York; three sons, Harvey Clayton Taylor Jr., Mike Taylor and Jonathan Taylor, all of York; two brothers, Herman Taylor and Doug Taylor, both of York; his sister, Louise Taylor Wofford of York; and his grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at York Funeral Home.

Minda Teague
FORT MILL - Mrs. Minda Jumalon Teague, 67, of 9904 Calvin Hall Road died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. Anne Catholic Church, with the Deacon James Hyland and brother Joseph Wilkerson officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in York.
Born in the Philippines, Mrs. Teague was a homemaker and of the Catholic faith.
Surviving are her husband, Clyde Teague of Fort Mill; three sons, Clyde Teague Jr., Kenneth Teague of Japan and Bobby Teague of Sanger, Texas; her daughter, Valerie Morey of Fort Mill; two brothers, Jimmy Jumalon of Iiligan City, Phillipines and Sammy Jumalon of Luzon, Phillipines; two sisters, Rosita Labayen of Cagayan, Phillipines and Sayong Jumalon of Bacaload, Phillipines; and five grandchildren.
A service will be 7 p.m. Sunday at Whitesell-Wolfe Funeral Home. Visitation will follow until 9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Anne Building Fund, 1694 Bird St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Paul Bess
GROVER, N.C. - Mr. Paul Thomas Bess, 84, of Grover, N.C., died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Allen Memorial Baptist Church, with the Revs. Norris Willis, Richard Dycus and Jimmy Harmon officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Mr. Bess was a self-employed farmer and a member of Allen Memorial Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth Bess; his son, Larry Bess of Grover; two daughters, Pauline Cabiness of York and Kay Patterson of Grover; four brothers, Wayne Bess of Kings Mountain, N.C., Bruner Bess and Walter Bess, both of Waco, N.C., and Tommy Bess of Mooresboro, N.C.; four sisters, Sue Dycus and Jenette Bridges, both of Shelby, N.C., Maxine Wilson of Columbia, and Sethelle Hoyle of Rutherfordton, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Allen Memorial Baptist Church, 1222 Long Branch Road, Grover, NC 28703.
Stamey Funeral Home of Falston, N.C., is in charge of arrangements.

Veona Black
CHESTER - Mrs. Veona Alewine Black, 78, of 532 Old York Road died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at S.C. Baptist Medical Center in Columbia.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at Barron Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ronald Gaddy officiating. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.
Born in Lexington, Mrs. Black was formerly employed with Springs Industries. She attended school in Lexington County and was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Leesville.
Surviving are her husband, Luther M. Black; her daughter, Janie B. Mobley of Chester; her sister, Alma A. Jennings of Columbia; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Helen Blackwell
CHESTER - Mrs. Helen Caroline Samuels Blackwell, 69, of 118 Pinckney St. died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, at the Life Care Center in Columbia.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Purity Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Joe Brooks and Dr. George Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
Mrs. Blackwell was a retired associate of Black's Drug Store and a member of Purity Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school and was active in the Prayer Chain Ministry. She was a graduate of Chester High School.
She was the widow of Clarkson L. Blackwell.
Surviving are her son, Grayson L. Blackwell of Orangeburg; her daughter, Brenda B. Duncan of Athens, Ga.; five sisters, Alice Proctor of Chester, Mary Cornwell and Esther Collins of Rock Hill; Ada Buchanan of Charlotte, and Jean Marshall of Lake Wylie; and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 3:30 to 5 p.m. today at Barron Funeral Home.

Geraldine Funderburk
LANCASTER - Miss Geraldine "Gerbie" Funderburk, 53, of 417 Elm St. died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.
The graveside funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Unity Cemetery, with the Revs. John Cahill, Les Thomas and Chris Luck officiating.
Miss Funderburk was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are three brothers, Wilson Knight, Johnny Funderburk and Jessie Funderburk, all of Rock Hill; five sisters, Arbeutis Williams of Lancaster, Mary Frances Parris, Patricia Ann Parris and Mary Alice Richardson, all of Rock Hill, and Betty Jean Totherow of Fort Mill.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Home.

Lois Jackson
CLOVER - Mrs. Lois Ellen Jackson, 86, of 102 Pickens St. died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, N.C.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. David Stanford officiating. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery.
A native of Gaston County, N.C., Mrs. Jackson was a member of Clover First Baptist Church and was a retired beautician.
She was the widow of Bernie Earl Jackson.
Surviving is her sister, Wilma M. Glover.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Billy Ray James Sr.
FORT MILL - Mr. Billy Ray James Sr., 69, of 531 Silver Run Road died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Fort Mill Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Chuck Ellis officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills cemetery.
Born in Cabarrus County, N.C., Mr. James was retired from Springs Industries' White Plant and had served in the U.S. Army Reserve.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Lowder James; two sons, Billy Ray James Jr. and Richard Eugene James, both of Fort Mill; two daughters, Barbara Wilson and Renee Wright, both of Fort Mill; four brothers, Dewey James and Tony James, both of Fort Mill, and Jesse James and Dennis James, both of Rock Hill; two sisters, Linda Miller and Deborah Small, both of Rock Hill; and seven grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Whitesell-Wolfe Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Billy James Jr., 10716 Crystal Lane, Fort Mill.

Beulah Jordan
FORT MILL - Mrs. Beulah McGuirt Jordan, 91, of 209 Link St. died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at Meadow Haven in Rock Hill.
The graveside funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Belair United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. J. Taylor Campbell officiating.
Mrs. Jordan was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, A.O. Jones' Sunday school class and the Springs Complex Senior Citizens Group.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Morton and Martha McKellar, both of Fort Mill; four sisters Cora Austin of Oakboro, N.C., and Nora Gainer, Helen Hunter and Athlee Bradurn, all of Lancaster; her brother, Grady McGuirt of Lancaster; four grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Whitesell-Wolfe Funeral Home.

Miriam Leaphart
LANCASTER - Mrs. Miriam Crenshaw Leaphart, 72, of 131 Niven Road died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998 at home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Osceola United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Robert Dunn and J. Bert Watson officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Born in Lancaster County, Mrs. Leaphart was a graduate of Winthrop College and was secretary for Indian Land Elementary School for 20 years before her retirement. She was a member of Osceola United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Church Women.
Surviving are her husband, Winfred P. Leaphart; her daughter, Christine Grayson of Charlotte; her son, Robert H. Lawton of Fort Myers, Fla.; her sister, Ruth Lemmond of Lancaster; her brother, John Niven Crenshaw of Lancaster; her stepson, Randy Leaphart of Greenville, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Carl Medlin
ROCK HILL - Mr. Carl Wayne Medlin, 54, of 1661 West Lakewood Drive, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Bass Funeral Home, with the Revs. Marion Pressley and John Powell officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.
A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Medlin was retired from Winthrop University, where he was a plumber. He was an 11-year U.S. Army veteran and served in Germany and Vietnam. He was a member of the American Legion.
Surviving are his son, Joseph Carl Medlin of York; two daughters, Carla Medlin and Libby Stewart of Rock Hill; three brothers, Michael Medlin of Tucson, Ariz., Jimmy Medlin of York, and Gary Medlin of Rock Hill; four sisters, Margaret Moore of McConnells, Patricia Bryant of Filbert, and Nancy McDaniel and Christine Roberts, both of Rock Hill; two grandchildren; and his companion, Carol Worrell.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bass Funeral Home and at other times at the home or at 613 Briarcliff Road.
