Rev. H.E. Smith
ROCK HILL - The Rev. H.E. Smith, 77, of 1306 Christopher Circle died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. today at Harvest Ministries of the Church of God of Prophecy Church, with the Revs. Robert Lang, Ray Payne, Ken Baker and Jerry Smith officiating.
Born in Plainville, Ga., the Rev. Smith was a member of Harvest Ministries of the Church of God of Prophecy Church and was retired from the ministry after 44 years. He was a graduate of Bible Training Institute.
Surviving are his wife, Irene Dodd Smith; two sons, Henry Eugene Smith of Rock Hill and Jerry Preston Smith of Elizabethtown, Ky.; two daughters, Joyce Myree Lang of Summerville and Carolyn Joy Hamilton of Rock Hill; his sister, Fannie Mae Allen of Plainville, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Harvest Ministries of the Church of God of Prophecy Church, P.O. Box 3516, Rock Hill, SC 29732.

China Wilson
ROCK HILL - Miss China Lee Wilson, 85, of 1072 Browser St. died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Nazareth Baptist Church, with the Rev. John H. Bailey officiating and the Revs. Charles Kiser, John McCoy, Melvin Douglas and evangelist Sandra McCoy assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Miss Wilson attended York County public schools and was a member of Nazareth Baptist Church. She was a retired domestic worker, mother of Hymn Choir No. 2 and a member of AP&B Society No. 23.
Surviving are her son, Otis Wilson of Rock Hill; two daughters, Lula Bell Simpson and Susie Smith, both of Rock Hill; her sister, Susie Roseboro of Rock Hill; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and her great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at the home of her son, 328 Roddey St.
The body may be viewed from from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today at Parker Funeral Home.
The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. today.

Virgie Bennett
FORT MILL - Mrs. Virgie Jennie Burton Bennett, 75, of 3171 Pike View Road died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at Mercy South Hospital.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Flint Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Grady Faulk officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Born in Gaston County, N.C., Mrs. Bennett was retired from Package Products and was a member of Stough Memorial Baptist Church. She was a member of the American Legion and the Unity Presbyterian Church's senior citizens group. She was the widow of John Edward Bennett.
Surviving are her son, Johnny Bennett of Fort Mill; her daughter, Linda Stafford of Fort Mill; two brothers, Carl Burton and Edward Burton, both of Kings Mountain, N.C.; three sisters, Laura Houser of Blacksburg, Margaret King and Susan Hooks, both of Kings Mountain, N.C.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Whitesell-Wolfe Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Stough Memorial Baptist Church, 705 Lakeview Drive, Pineville, NC 28134 or to Unity Presbyterian Church nutrition center, 303 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, SC 29715.

Gertrude Garner
KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. - Mrs. Gertrude Moore Jackson Garner of 4247 Shady Grove Road, formerly of Chester, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia.
She was the widow of Tuff Garner.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Costner
Funeral Home in Gastonia.

Ernestine Gibson
GREAT FALLS - Mrs. Ernestine Singletary Gibson, 65, of 6225 Richburg Road died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Heath Chapel United Methodist Church, with the Revs. John Rumford and Doug Irvin officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Born in Monticello, Fla., Mrs. Gibson was a retired nurse. She was educated in Chester County schools and a member of Heath Chapel United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Lyles Gibson; two sons, Ernie Gibson of Lancaster and Danny Gibson of Great Falls; her daughter, Glenda Gainey of Charleston; her brother, Doyle Singletary of Louisville, Ky.; two sisters, Mattie Hinnant of Great Falls and Alice Bowman of Thounsend, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

Susan Hargrave
CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Susan Anita Lewis Hargrave, 50, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at her sister's home in Charlotte.
A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Rick Martin officiating.
Born in Harrisburg, Pa., Mrs. Hargrave was a project manager for Initiatives for Children.
Surviving are her brother, Peter W. Lewis of Kerrville, Texas; and her sister, Ellen E. Robertson of Charlotte.

Joe Hemphill
CHESTER - Mr. Joe Curtis Hemphill, 88, of Chester County Nursing Center, formerly of Columbia Street, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at Chester County Hospital.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Antioch Baptist Church, with the Rev. Paul F. Long Sr. officiating and the Rev. C.H. Williams assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A Chester County native, Mr. Hemphill was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, past church treasurer and a member of AP&B Society No. 25. He was a retired machine operator for a local logging company. He was the widower of Emma Julia Johnson Hemphill.
Surviving are his brother, Charlie Hemphill Sr. of Chester; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home of Charlie and Louise Hemphill, 203 Peypon St.
The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Friday.

Benjamin Killian
CHESTER - Mr. Benjamin Frank "Bop" Killian, 78, of 126 Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Drive died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at his home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, with the Rev. T. Groome officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Born in Chester, Mr. Killian was a retired construction worker. He was a member, deacon and choir member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church. He attended the schools of Chester County.
Surviving are his daughter, Mary Delores Smith of Leandro, Calif.; his brother, George Killian of Washington, D.C.; and his sister, Magalene K. Moore of Chester.
The family will receive friends at the home of Odessa Marshall, 842 Meadowbrook Road.
The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Friday.

Audrey McKinney
YORK - Ms. Audrey Ferrell McKinney, 90, formerly of Beckley, W.Va., died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, in Rock Hill.
A committal service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley, W.Va.
Born in South Boston, Va., Ms. McKinney graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and Beckley College. She was a former society editor for the Post Herald in Beckley and was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was a member of St. Andrew Episcopal Church in Clifton Forge, Va., and had been a resident of Christopher Towers in Columbia.
Surviving are her son, Charles T. "Chuck" McKinney of Columbia; three grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at Melton Mortuary in Beckley, W.Va.
Memorials may be made to Oliver Gospel Mission in Columbia or to a local library for the blind or handicapped.

Anna Mae Thompson
YORK - Mrs. Anna Mae Carlson Thompson, 87, formerly of York, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at Greenfield Manor in Gastonia, N.C.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. today at Broad River Baptist Church in Smyrna, with the Rev. Bill Shytle officiating.
Born in Charleston, W.Va., Mrs. Thompson was the widow of Jay Vernon Thompson.
Surviving are her son, David Allen Thompson of Eugene, Ore.; her daughter, Lou Anne Cody-Catham of Ontario, Canada; four sisters, Ura Wheatley of St. Albans, W.Va., Opal Walker of Alabama, Virginia Dobbins of Hurricane, W.Va., and Mary Lockard of Charleston, W.Va.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends after the memorial service in the church sanctuary.

Cora Hoffman
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Cora Allen Hoffman, 89, of 1197 Dunlap Roddey Road died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Mount Holly United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Arthur Holt officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A York County native, Mrs. Hoffman was retired from Rock Hill Printing & Finishing. She was a member of Mount Holly United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Felder P. Hoffman Sr.
Surviving are two sons, Allen E. Hoffman and James W. Hoffman, both of Rock Hill; her daughter, Thelma Pope of Rock Hill; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bass Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to Mount Holly United Methodist Church building fund, 1996 Mount Holly Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Estelle Hoffman
YORK - Mrs. Estelle Randall Brower Hoffman, 100, of York Care Facility, 42 Ross Cannon St., died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.
A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Christ United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg, Fla., with the Rev. William Owens officiating.
Born in Lynbrook, N.Y., Mrs. Hoffman was a homemaker and the widow of John Jacob Hoffman. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church where she belonged to Triangle Class and was assistant librarian. She attended Trinity Methodist Church in York where she was a member of the ladies Bible class and the Trinity Travelers.
Surviving are three granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends after the service.
Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church or to Trinity United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 376, York, SC 29745.

Clifford Jenkins
ROCK HILL - Mr. Clifford Earl Jenkins, 68, of 1107 Ebinport Road died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Hopewell Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Daren Russell officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Chester, Mr. Jenkins was a retired U.S. Army veteran with over 23 years of service. He worked in the city of Rock Hill's maintenance shop. He served three tours in Korea and Germany and also served in Alaska and California.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Watkins Jenkins of the home; his son, Kenneth Dale Jenkins of Fort Mill; his brother, Hall Jenkins of Rock Hill; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and other times at the home.
