CHESTER - Mr. Joe Curtis Hemphill, 88, of Chester County Nursing Center, formerly of Columbia Street, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at Chester County Hospital.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by King's Funeral Home.

Margaret Keeffe
FORT MILL - Mrs. Margaret Lambert Keeffe, 46, of 11681 Harrisburg Road died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Stough Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Grady Faulk officiating and the Revs. Lee Davis and Bruce League assisting. Burial will be at Pineville Cemetery.
Born in West Jefferson, N.C., Mrs. Keeffe was a member of Eastern Star Chapter No. 286 in Indian Land. She was a member of Stough Memorial Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher and choir member. She was a member of the Ladies II Sunday school class and was a packer at Carolina Foods in Charlotte for a number of years.
Surviving are her husband, Jonathan D. Keeffe of the home; two daughters, Mildred Ann Brooks of Lenoir, N.C., and Stella Keeffe of the home; her mother, Stella Mae Mullis Lambert of Charlotte; two brothers, Roger Lambert of Hopkins and Terry Lambert of Norfolk, Va.; and four granddaughters.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Stough Memorial Baptist Church and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to Stough Memorial Baptist Church, 705 Lakeview Drive, Pineville, NC 28134.

Lillian Logan
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Lillian Chisolm Logan, 80, of 1851 Matthews Drive died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at her home.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Bible Church, with the Rev. George Schultz officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.
A native of Varnville, Mrs. Logan was a member of Trinity Christian Church and its Susanne Johnson Women's Circle. She was a retired school teacher and taught in York County schools. She was the widow of David Franklin Logan.
Surviving are her son, Ben F. Logan of Griffin, Ga.; two brothers, Lee Chisolm of Moncks Corner and Robert Chisolm of Hendersonville, N.C.; two sisters, Vera Taylor of Hendersonville, N.C., and Lydia Campbell of Cayce; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

H.E. Smith
ROCK HILL - Mr. H.E. Smith, 77, of 1306 Christopher Circle died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Harvest Ministries of the Church of God of Prophecy Church, with the Revs. Robert Lang, Ray Payne, Ken Baker and Jerry Smith officiating.
Born in Plainville, Ga., the Rev. Smith was a member of Harvest Ministries of the Church of God of Prophecy Church and was retired from the ministry after 44 years. He was a graduate of Bible Training Institute.
Surviving are his wife, Irene Dodd Smith; two sons, Henry Eugene Smith of Rock Hill and Jerry Preston Smith of Elizabethtown, Ky.; two daughters, Joyce Myree Lang of Summerville and Carolyn Joy Hamilton of Rock Hill; his sister, Fannie Mae Allen of Plainville, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Shirley Smith
ASHEBORO, N.C. - Mrs. Shirley Curtis Smith, 62, of 5171 Dogwood Trail died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at High Point Regional Hospital.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sechrest Funeral Home in Archdale, with the Revs. Clarence Page and Ulysses Mashburn officiating. Burial will be at Floral Garden Park Cemetery.
Born in Davidson County, Mrs. Smith was employed at Concept Plastics and was a member of Grace and Mercy Holiness Church.
Surviving are her husband, Roland L. Smith of the home; her son, Danny Wray of Rock Hill; two daughters, Lee Ann Eason of the home and Lynn Reeves of Delco; three brothers, Charles Curtis, Ben Curtis and Ronald Curtis, all of Rock Hill; two sisters, Sylvia Nalley and Marcene Hinson, both of Rock Hill; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Sechrest Funeral Home.

Evelyn Stewart
CLOVER - Mrs. Evelyn McCarter Stewart, 85, of 492 S.C. 161 North died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, N.C.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethany ARP Church, with the Rev. Alan Morrow officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A York County native, Mrs. Stewart was a lifelong member of Bethany ARP Church and a piano instructor. She was a graduate of Bethany High School and was the widow of E. Lee Stewart.
Surviving are two sons, Keith Stewart of Gaffney and Jeff Stewart of Clover; her daughter, Letitia S. Harris of Concord, N.C.; two sisters, Helen Cook and Edna Cox, both of Clover; and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home.

China Wilson
ROCK HILL - Miss China Lee Wilson, 85, of 1072 Browser St. died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Nazareth Baptist Church, with the Rev. John H. Bailey officiating and the Revs. Charles Kiser, John McCoy, Melvin Douglas and evangelist Sandra McCoy assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Miss Wilson attended York County public schools and was a member of Nazareth Baptist Church. She was a retired domestic worker, leader of Hymn Choir No. 2 and a member of AP&B Society No. 23.
Surviving are her son, Otis Wilson of Rock Hill; two daughters, Lula Bell Simpson and Susie Smith, both of Rock Hill; her sister, Susie Roseboro of Rock Hill; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and her great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at the home of her son, 328 Roddey St.
The body may be viewed from 1 to 6 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Parker Funeral Home.
The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Dawn Bell
KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. - Ms. Dawn Prater Bell, 24, of 1505 Margrace Road died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at her home.
Burial was at Grover Cemetery in Grover.
A Cleveland County, N.C., native, Ms. Bell was a member of Trinity Church of the Living God.
Surviving are two sons, Timothy Bell and Joshua Bell, both of the home; her father, Richard Prater of York; her mother and stepfather, Vicky and Bob Williams of Kings Mountain; her sister, Kerry McKenzie of Belmont, N.C.; three stepbrothers, Danny Williams, Bobby Williams and Larston Williams, all of Kings Mountain; five stepsisters, Lisa Shirley of High Point, N.C., Carol Oliver, Donna Johnson, Joann Smart and Brenda Stroupe, all of Kings Mountain; and her maternal grandfather, Odell Smart of Kings Mountain.
Harris Funeral Home is in charge.

Fred Boyd
ROCK HILL - Mr. Fred L. Boyd, 68, of 6265 Williamson Road died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Bethesda Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Sam Parker officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Born in Gaston County, N.C., Mr. Boyd was a member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon. He was formerly employed at Johnson Motor Lines, self-employed as a dairy man and farmer at Green Acres Farm, co-founder and manager of Brattonville Hunt Club and founder, president and CEO of York Transportation Inc. from 1983 to 1994. He was a member of Rock Hill Masonic Lodge No. 111 and the Hejaz Shrine Temple.
Surviving are his wife, Faye B. Boyd; his son, Larry E. Boyd; five daughters, Ellen B. Kay, Tina B. Catoe, Janie Boyd, Leslie B. Mitchell and Rebecca Boyd, all of Rock Hill; six brothers, L.H. Boyd Jr. and Erskine Boyd, both of Gaston County, N.C., Leo Boyd of Kingsport, Tenn., E. Neal Boyd, Dean D. Boyd and J. Pressley Boyd, all of Rock Hill; two sisters, Jean B. Love of Gaston County, N.C., and Kathleen A. Smith of Rock Hill; 18 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethesda Presbyterian Church cemetery fund, 4858 McConnells Highway, York, SC 29745.

Keaton Campion
EASLEY - Keaton Allen-Ray Campion, the infant son of Jeff Eugene and Jill Medford Campion, of 105 Mockingbird Lane, was born and died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, in Greenville.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at New Hope Presbyterian Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Sam Hobson officiating.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his brother, Christopher Campion of the home; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Campion of Morganton, N.C.; his maternal grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. Ray Medford of Gastonia, N.C.; his maternal great-grandfather, Burl Allen of Gastonia, N.C.; and his maternal great-grandmother, Esther Medford of Weaverville, N.C.
The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary after the service.

Ruth Gilmore
YORK - Mrs. Ruth Bratton Gilmore, 86, of 509 California Circle died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Mount Zion Baptist Church in McConnells, with Dr. John T. McCoy officiating and Dr. Darial Jackson, the Rev. George McCoy and evangelist Sandra McCoy assisting. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Born in Brattonsville, Mrs. Gilmore was a homemaker and a lifelong member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she was a member of the senior choir, the missionary society and the Sunday school. She also was a member of the York Community Prayer Band.
Surviving are five sons, Eddie Mansel Gilmore and William H. Gilmore, both of York, Robert Lee Gilmore of Gastonia, N.C., Larry B. Gilmore of Silver Springs, Md., and George A. Gilmore of Auburn, Mass.; five daughters, Sarah McClain, Naomi Kendrick and Diane Odom, all of York, Belle Barnette Falls of Gastonia, N.C., and Margaret E. Finch of Rock Hill; her brother, Henry Bratton of Washington, D.C.; her sister, Ira Belle Singleton of Washington, D.C.; 48 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7 tonight at Wright Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Thursday.

Millie Hullett
YORK - Mrs. Millie Humphries Hullett, 75, of 10-A Cedar Terrace died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at York Funeral Home. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Hullett was born in York and was a homemaker.
Surviving are her husband, O. Neil Hullett of York; three sons, Buddy Humphries and Butch Hartness, both of York, and David Hartness of Rock Hill; four daughters, Marie Edens of Hilton Head, Josephine Vinson of Seneca, and Nancy Parker and Shirley Howe, both of York; her sister, Katie Moses; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at York Funeral Home.

James Lee
ROCK HILL - Mr. James Richard Lee, 50, of 1514 McGill St. died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at his home.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Grandview Memorial Park, with Harry Collins officiating.
Born in Lowrys, Mr. Lee was a member of Lowrys Baptist Church. He was employed by Duke Power Co. and Daniels Construction. He served in the Air Force.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret "Peggy" Lee; his daughter, Deborah Lee Wright of Rock Hill; his grandson that he reared, Matthew James Lee of the home; and his nephew, Michael Lee of Rock Hill.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Memorials may be made to York County Hospice, 325 S. Oakland Avenue, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
Cauthen Funeral Home is in charge.
