FORT MILL - Mrs. Christine Blackwell Melton, 55, of 1975 Ripplerock Road died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at her home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Glenrock Baptist Church. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.
Born in Cherokee, N.C., Mrs. Melton was a homemaker and a member of Glenrock Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Barney Ray Melton of Fort Mill; her son, Timothy Ray Melton of Fort Mill; two daughters, Debra Lynn Melton Spivey and Brenda Kay Melton Spivey, both of Fort Mill; her brother, Edward Blackwell of Fort Mill; three sisters, Jeanette Worley of Greer, and Madeline Blackwell and Mildred Neal, both of Fort Mill; and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Whitesell-Wolfe Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to York County Hospice, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Jessie Mae Nance
YORK - Mrs. Jessie Mae Castle Nance, 87, of Meadow Haven Specialty Care and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of 282 Fairview Circle, died Friday, Jan. 2, 1998.
Burial was at Lakeview Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Nance was a member of Mount Zion FBH Church in York.
Surviving are two sons, Ruben Nance of Clover and Robert Nance Jr. of Gastonia, N.C.; four sisters, the Rev. Mozelle Castle and Ida Bell Caldwell, both of York, Lee Bell Garvin of Washington, D.C., and Lizzie Castle of Bronx, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grand children.
Wright Funeral Home was in charge.

Daniel Pettus
FORT MILL - Mr. Daniel Newton Pettus, 95, of 107 Patterson St. died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Saint John United Methodist Church of Fort Mill, with the Revs. Taylor Campbell and Joe Tysinger officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery.
A Lancaster County native, Mr. Pettus was a lifelong member of Saint John United Methodist Church of Fort Mill where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class. He retired as a machine operator with Springs Industries Fort Mill Plant. He was an avid player at the Fort Mill Golf Club, a past president of the Leroy Springs Senior Citizen's Club and a master gardener.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Lancaster Holcomb Pettus of Fort Mill; two sons, Thomas Odell Pettus of Fort Mill and Harold Edward Pettus of Charlotte; two stepsons, David Holcomb of Fort Mill and Carroll Holcomb of Rock Hill; his stepdaughter, Maxine H. Maggart of Fort Mill; two sisters, Blanche Carter of Anderson and Juanita Stewart of Lancaster County; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Whitesell-Wolfe Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to Saint John United Methodist Church building fund, 130 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, SC 29715.

James Burrell
ROCK HILL - Mr. James Ray Burrell, 75, of 2428 Catawba Church Road died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at Mercy South Hospital in Pineville.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Greene Funeral Home.

Rose Carter
ROCK HILL - Rose Anna "Moo Gal" Carter, 33, of 529 E. White St. died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Jennings officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Carter was a member of Fundamental Baptist Church.
Surviving are her companion, James L. Davis of Rock Hill; two sons, Tywon Lamont Carter and James C. Davis, both of Rock Hill; four brothers, Albert S. Carter of Winston-Salem, N.C., John W. Carter of Brooklyn, N.Y., Danny R. Carter of Richmond, Va., and Joseph Jeter of Rock Hill; two sisters, Doretha Dixon and Carol J. Carter, both of Rock Hill; and her maternal grandmother, Lucille Strong of Chester.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Parker Funeral Home and at other times at 421 S. Jones Avenue.
The body may be viewed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Parker Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. before the service.

Lucy Catoe
LANCASTER - Mrs. Lucy Williams Catoe, 92, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at White Oak Manor.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Second Baptist Church, with the Rev. James D. Spencer III officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.
Born in Kershaw County, Mrs. Catoe was a homemaker, a retired employee of Springs Industries and a member of Second Baptist Church. She was the widow of Oscar Samuel Catoe Sr.
Surviving are three sons, Jesse F. Catoe, Charles W. Catoe and Samuel "Sammy" Catoe Jr., all of Lancaster; two daughters, Lyda Davis and Sharon Horton, both of Lancaster; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

John Culp
NEWARK, N.J. - Mr. John M. Culp, formerly of Rock Hill, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at Veteran's Hospital in Newark.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Perry's Funeral Home in Newark.
Surviving are his brother, Charles Thorne of Bloomsfield, N.J.; four sisters, Henrietta Brice and Helen Ealy, both of Rock Hill, Betsy Culp of Bronx, N.Y., and Jesse Tillman of Newark.
Clemons Funeral Home in Rock Hill is in charge of local arrangements.

Eugene Fries
LANCASTER - Mr. Eugene Albert Fries, 72, of 2078 Friars Court died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be at a later date. Burial will be at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Rahway, N.J. A memorial service will be in Lancaster at a later date.
Born in Newark, N.J., Mr. Fries was retired from the Sheriff's Department of Newark, N.J., and was employed by the Lancaster Golf Course.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Jean Jones Fries; two daughters, Mary Kay Fries of San Francisco and Donna Jean Emmons of Freehill, N.J.; three stepsons, David F. Connely of Palm Coast, Fla., Dwayne Connely of Long Beach, N.J., and Dennis Connely of Tinton Falls, N.J.; four stepdaughters, Deborah Merker of Monroe, N.C., Lorie Deering of Wayland, Mich., Carol Judge of Orlando, Fla., and Dorothy Connely of Palm Coast, Fla.; and 14 grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Lancaster Children's Home, 721 E. Arch St., Lancaster, SC 29720.

Robert Jeter
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Mr. Robert "Bobby" Jeter, 65, of 867 Pacific St. died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Jeter is a native of Sharon.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by King's Funeral Home of Chester.

Blanchard Johnson
FORT MILL - Mr. Blanchard R. "B.R." Johnson, 84, of 500 Camp Cox Circle died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at his home.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at McEwen Funeral Home in Charlotte, with the Rev. Eugene Flack officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Johnson was retired from Woonsocket Spinning Mill and a member of Glen Rock Baptist Church. He was the widower of Annie Mae Johnson.
Surviving are three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at McEwen Funeral Home.

Lottie Kirkpatrick
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Lottie Kee Kirkpatrick, 94, of 111 Sedgewood Drive died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at Ebenezer Nursing Home.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Rev. Tom Pietila officiating.
Mrs. Kirkpatrick graduated from Lander College in Greenwood. She was a teacher in South Carolina schools, and was a member of Eastern Star and Woodland United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Davis Kirkpatrick of Richburg.
Surviving are three sisters, Margaret Maloney of Rock Hill, Isabel Kirkpatrick of Chester and Maurice Kirkpatrick of Fort Mill.
The family will receive friends in the cemetery after the service and at other times at the home of her sister Margaret Maloney, 520 Ascot Ridge Drive.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Mary Lehman
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Mary Katherine Lehman of 1915 Ebenezer Road, formerly of Hyndman, Pa., died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at White Oak Manor.

Surviving are three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

at Greene Funeral Home.
Terry McClurkin
CHESTER - Mr. Terry McClurkin, 34, of 109 Cemetery St., died Tuesday, Jan. 6. 1998, at his home.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by King's Funeral Home.

J.W. McWaters
CHESTER - Mr. J.W. McWaters, 66, of 1610 Great Falls Highway died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at Dorn Veterans Hospital in Columbia.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Clyde Mitchum officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A Chester County native, Mr. McWaters was retired from Springs Industries. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, the VFW and attended the schools of Chester County. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are his wife, Joanne McWaters of Chester; his son, Jimmy McWaters of Blackstock; his daughter, Pat McWaters of Chester; three sisters, Azalee McDonough and Mary Love, both of Chester, and Adaline Dowdle of Sharon; his grandson; two stepgrandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Mabel Parker
CLOVER - Mrs. Mabel Bumgardner Parker of 103 Hopper St. died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at her home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Faith Baptist Church, with the Revs. Mark Collins and Harry Bryant officiating. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery.
Born in York County, Mrs. Parker was a member of Faith Baptist Church and the widow of Forest Parker.
Surviving are three sons, Barton Cherry and Forest Parker Jr., both of Clover, and John Hampton Parker of Shelby, N.C.; five daughters, Elsie Cherry, Peggy Bowers and Sharon Dover, all of Clover, Barbara Wallace of York and Gladys Abernathy of Rock Hill; two sisters, Minnie Abernathy and Elsie Church, both of Clover; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M. L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home.
