Edgar Berryhill

GASTONIA, N.C. - Mr. Edgar Stuart Berryhill, 93, formerly of the Bethany Community near Clover, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at Belaire Health Care Center.

A graveside funeral will be 2 p.m. today at the Steele Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Alan A. Morrow officiating.

A native of Mecklenburg County, N.C., Mr. Berryhill was a retired surveyor with Duke Power Co. He was a member of Steele Creek Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home.

Ray Boling

BRYSON CITY, N.C. - Mr. Ray Eugene Boling, 59, of the Shepherd's Creek Community died Friday, Jan. 30 ,1998, at a Swain County, N.C., Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Crisp Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Ray Fox officiating. Burial will be at Holly Springs Cemetery.

Born in Rock Hill, Mr. Boling was retired from Fluor Construction in Greenville with 32 years of service.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara Boling; three daughters, Cherie Travis of Claremore, Okla., Lisa Humphries of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Jennifer Black of Pensacola, Fla.; his son, R. Dean Boling of Claremore; his mother, Mary Boling of Rock Hill; two sisters, Faye Boyd and Peggy Hall of Rock Hill; his brother, Earl Boling of Charleston; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Holly Springs Cemetery Fund.

Sallie Bridges

CHESTER - Mrs. Sallie Alice Marsh Bridges, 86, of 174 York Street died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Bethel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Will Brown officiating. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.

Born in Trenton, Mrs. Bridges attended the schools in Trenton and was a homemaker. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, where she was a former member of the Administrative Board. She was a choir member for 50 years and was director of the children's choir. She also was a member of the Dogwood Garden Club, the Thursday Afternoon Bridge Club and Eastern Star Chapter No. 15.

She was the widow of George Copeland Bridges.

Surviving are her daughter, Mae Lee Miller of Roanoke, Va.; three sons, George Copeland Bridges Jr. of Converse, and Walker Marsh Bridges and Samuel Belton Bridges, both of Chester; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 751, Chester, SC 29706.

Barron Funeral Home is in charge.

J. Ira Gibson

NEWBERRY - Mr. J. Ira Gibson, 86, died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 4:30 p.m. today at Smyrna Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Bryan Wright officiating. Entombment will be at Newberry Memorial Gardens.

Born in Saluda County, Mr. Gibson was a retired employee of Ira T. Cousins Inc. He was a member of Smyrna Presbyterian Church, where he was an inactive deacon. He also was a member of the Newberry County Farm Bureau.

Surviving are his wife, Dora Riser Gibson; two sons, Billy Gibson of Newberry and Corbett Gibson of York; his sister, Helen Mathews of Batesburg; his brother, Hoyt Gibson of Saluda; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Billy Gibson, 1173 Spearman Road.

Edward Jennings

ROCK HILL - Mr. Edward Jennings of 322 Friedheim Road died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Boyd Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. B. R. Wilson officiating. He will be assisted by the Revs. C.H. Williams, James Thompson and David Jennings. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A native of Forsythe County, N.C., Mr. Jennings was a retired employee of Matthews Construction Company. He was a member of Boyd Hill Baptist Church, where he served on the senior usher board. He attended the public schools of York County.

Surviving are his wife, Bessie Jennings; three daughters, Brenda Campbell and Sally Woodard, both of Rock Hill, and Sandra Massey of Saluda, Va.; five sisters, Azalea Johnson of Middleton, R.I., Johnnie Patterson of Rock Hill, and Sara Singfield, Helen Martin and Sara Ferguson, all of Baltimore; four brothers, the Rev. David Jennings, Harry Jennings, Harry Collins, all of Rock Hill, and Jackson Jennings of Baltimore; 15 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at Boyd Hill Baptist Church and at other times at the home.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Bobby Kelly Sr.

CHARLOTTE - Mr. Bobby Barton Kelly Sr., 71, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at Presbyterian Hospital.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Carothers Funeral Home Colonial Chapel in Gastonia, N.C., with the Rev. Dan King officiating. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.

A native of Mecklenburg County, N.C., Mr. Kelly, spent his childhood and young adult life in Gastonia and Lancaster.

He was in the U.S. Army 33rd Battalion I & R Intelligence during World War II. He worked at Platinum Pipeline Co. for 32 years and was a member of the Thomasboro Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Irene S. Kelly; two sons, Bobby B. Kelly Jr. of Cornelius, N.C., and Michael S. Kelly of Stanley, N.C.; his brother, Harold B. Kelly of Gastonia; his sister, Doris K. Quinn of Gastonia; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Carothers Funeral Home.

Ella Sharp

ROCK HILL - Dr. Ella "Becky" Barmore Sharp, 96, of 1330 India Hook Road died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at Westminster Towers.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at the Westminster Presbyterian Church chapel, with Dr. Shelton Sanford officiating.

Born in Woodruff, Dr. Sharp was a graduate of Winthrop College and received a master's degree in business from Peabody University and a doctorate from Columbia University in New York. She served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Women's Army Corps and was the first woman to receive a bronze star in the European Theater for her part in the invasion of Normandy.

Dr. Sharp retired as the dean of Eastern New Mexico University Business School and was honored by the university when it named its auditorium the Dr. Beck Sharp Auditorium. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and Chi Omega sorority.

Surviving are her nephews Dr. Henry D. Sharp and James D. Sharp of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. today at the Community Room in Westminster Towers.

Robert Burns

FORT MILL - Mr. Robert L. Burns, 85, of The Colony House died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be private. Burial will be at St. Patrick Cemetery in Nattick, Mass.

A native of Massachusetts, Mr. Burns worked for Stone and Webster and was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Hopewell, Va.

Surviving are two sons, Robert M. Burns of Tucker, Ga., and Thomas J. Burns of Tega Cay; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Whitesell-Wolfe Funeral Home.

Josephine Carr

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Josephine E. Carr, 87, of 363 Rolling Ridge Road died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center. A memorial service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Al Boland and Father William Pentis officiating. Burial will be private.

A native of Braintree, Mass., Mrs. Carr was a homemaker and attended the Episcopal Church of Our Savior. She was a member of the Rock Hill Senior Citizens Silver Fox Club, and past president of the Taunton, Mass., Humane Society.

Surviving are her brother-in-law, Joseph Carr, and sister-in-law, Rosemary Carr of Rock Hill, with whom she lived.

The family will receive friends after the service Tuesday.

Iris Eggleton

LANCASTER - Mrs. Iris Cox Eggleton, 84, of 400 W. Meeting St. died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at home.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Westside Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Steve Morgan officiating.

A Pitt County, N.C., native, Mrs. Eggleton was the retired co-owner and operator of the Cox's 5 and 10 cent store for more than 40 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the WSCS and the Evelyn Badley Sunday school class. She also was a member of DAR, Evening Garden Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was the widow of Harvey Daily Eggleton.

Surviving are her son, Harvey "Tommy" Eggleton of Lancaster; her brother, Thomas E. Cox of Greenwood; her grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Taylor Greene

YORK - Mr. Taylor Suel Greene, 88, of 2711 S.C. 161 died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, N.C.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home in Clover, with the Rev. David Davis officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York.

Mr. Greene was a retired merchant. He was the widower of Mary Ruth Cash Greene.

Surviving are two sons, William Richard Greene and Daniel Martin Greene, both of York; his daughter, Flora G. Saunders of Charlotte; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home in Clover.

Howard Hartley

LANCASTER - Mr. Howard Hartley, 87, of 352 Brooklyn Ave. died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Huey Mills officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Andrews, Mr. Hartley was a member of Fellowship Bible Church and was retired from Springs Industries.

Surviving are his wife, Eva Adams Hartley of Lancaster; and a sister, Florence Hartley of Lancaster.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fellowship Bible Church, 1850 Kershaw-Camden Highway, Lancaster, SC 29720.
