Julia Hall

STATESVILLE, N.C. - Mrs. Julia Lowry Hall, 78, of 702 W. End Ave. died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at her home.

Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery.

Born in York, Mrs. Hall was a member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church. She received her bachelor's degree in English from Converse College in Spartanburg and her master's degree in English from Fordham University in the Bronx, N.Y. She was formerly a features editor at the Evening Herald in Rock Hill. She was an English and speech teacher for Mitchell Community College. She served in the Navy and was a lieutenant during World War II. She was the widow of William Edward Hall.

Surviving are her son, James Lowry Hall of Statesville; two daughters, Celeste Hall Feimster of Scotts and Julia Hall Sampsel of Statesville; her brother, Samuel Kenneth Lowry Jr. of York; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Iredell County, P.O. Box 822, Statesville, NC 28687; Arts and Science Center, 1335 Museum Road, Statesville, NC 28677; or to Mitchell Community College, 500 W. Broad St., Statesville, NC 28677.

Edward Jennings

ROCK HILL - Mr. Edward Jennings of 322 Friedheim Road died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Boyd Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. B.R. Wilson officiating. He will be assisted by the Revs. C.H. Williams, James Thompson and David Jennings. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A native of Forsythe County, N.C., Mr. Jennings was a retired employee of Matthews Construction Co. He was a member of Boyd Hill Baptist Church, where he was on the senior usher board. He attended York County public schools.

Surviving are his wife, Bessie Jennings; three daughters, Brenda Campbell and Sally Woodard, both of Rock Hill, and Sandra Massey of Saluda, Va.; five sisters, Azalea Johnson of Middleton, R.I., Johnnie Patterson of Rock Hill, and Sara Singfield, Helen Martin and Sara Ferguson, all of Baltimore; four brothers, the Rev. David Jennings, Harry Jennings, and Harry Collins, all of Rock Hill, and Jackson Jennings of Baltimore; 15 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. today.

Robinson Funeral Home is in charge.

Edith Keller

FORT MILL - Mrs. Edith Marie Armbruster Keller, 90, of 1036 Maxwell Mill Road died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A memorial Mass will be 1 p.m. Thursday at River Hills Community Church, with Father John Giuliani officiating.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Keller was a retired bookkeeper. She was the widow of Albert F. Keller.

Surviving are her son, Fredric J. Keller of Pittsford, N.Y.; her daughter, Suzanne K. Sebaste of Lake Wylie; two sisters, Dorothy E. Winter of Lady Lake, Fla., and Betty McGinn of Lynbrook, N.Y.; and six grandchildren.

Edna Lockridge

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Edna Bailey Lockridge, 70, of 671 Annafrel St. died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Hills Cemetery, with the Rev. Larry Gregory officiating.

A Lancaster native, Mrs. Lockridge was a homemaker and a member of West End Baptist Church. She was the widow of William "T" Lockridge Jr.

Surviving are her son, William Lockridge of Rock Hill; two daughters, Vonnie Rape of Monroe, N.C., and Brenda Hartsell of Rock Hill; her brother, Ernest Bailey of Rock Hill; five sisters, Margie Craig of Greenville, Sissy Cabe of York, and Ruth Sutton, Mildred Kingington and Shirley Ashworth, all of Rock Hill; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Olin Moss

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Olin V. Moss, 91, of 3 Underwood Ave. died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, with the Revs. Doug Irvin and Bobby Bailey officiating. Burial with Masonic rites will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

Born in Spartanburg County, Mr. Moss was a retired weave room supervisor with J.P. Stevens Co. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Great Falls Masonic Lodge No. 277 and Hejaz Shrine Temple. He was a member of First Baptist Church and attended school in Spartanburg County. He was the widower of Jettie Rayburn Moss.

Surviving are his son, Charles E. Moss of Great Falls; two daughters, Shirley Osborne and Joyce Wilson, both of Great Falls; four sisters, Mildred Dover and Mary Ellen Wilson, both of Great Falls, Lois Stokes of Simpsonville and Dorothy Glascoe of Lake Greenwood; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

Edna Wood

CLOVER - Mrs. Edna Brakefield Wood, 61, of 2722 U.S. Highway 321 S. died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at her home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, with the Revs. Wallace Tinsley and Bruce Kiser officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

Born in Greenville, Mrs. Wood attended Filbert Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are her husband, Charles William "Bill" Wood of Clover; four sons, Otis Franklin Brakefield of Bowling Green, and William Randy Brakefield, Bobby Gene Brakefield and Timmy Dwight Wood, all of Clover; six daughters, Brenda Brakefield Collins, Peggy Marie Brakefield and Terry Brakefield, all of Bowling Green, Janice Juanita Parris of Belmont, N.C., Vanessa Brakefield Clinton of York and Sherry Lynn Wood of Gastonia, N.C.; two brothers, Jack Davis of Clover and Frank Davis of York; two sisters, Doris Howard of York and Mildred McCloud of Chester; 19 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home.

Bessie Bolin

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Bessie "Bobo" Bolin, 79, of 728 Cauthen St. died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Laurelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Jimmy Holley officiating.

Born in Hartsville, Mrs. Bolin was retired from Rock Hill Printing & Finishing where she worked in the packing department for more than 23 years. She was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are two sons, C.L. McCoy of Columbia and Jimmy Bolin of Rock Hill; two daughters, Nellie McCammon of Rock Hill and Lois A. Bolin-Vatis of Naples, Fla.; her brother, Jessie Lee Massey of Richburg; her sister, Mary Brunson of Columbia; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

Benita Beard

YORK - Mrs. Benita Yvette Baskins Beard, 30, of 1835 Paraham Road died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, in Clover.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Mount Pleasant AME Zion Church in Gastonia, N.C., with Elder Carl A. Glenn officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Beard was a 1985 graduate of Clover High School and a 1987 graduate of Kings College in Charlotte. She was a member of Mount Pleasant AME Zion Church, where she was a member of the young adult choir, a Sunday school teacher and a Christian education department helper. She was also a member of United Spirit Community Choir.

Surviving are her husband, Jackie L. Beard of Bowling Green; three daughters, Shekela R. Baskins, Jamia S. Beard and Brittany S. Beard, all of the home; her stepson, De Vencezo Starr of Bowling Green; her parents, Willie James and Esther Baskins of the home; two sisters, Kemberly Baskins and Montrece Baskins of Rock Hill; her paternal grandfather, Ora Baskins of Greenville; her maternal grandparents, Alma Flowers and Isaac Witherspoon, both of Charlotte; and her maternal great-grandmother, Hattie Giles of Charlotte.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3 p.m. Thursday at Mount Pleasant AME Zion Church.

Annette Bruce

CHESTER - Mrs. Annette Jourdan "Miss Annie" or "Mrs. Hub" Bruce, 95, died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at her home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Barron Funeral Home, with the Rev. Clarence Fouse officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

A Chester County native, Mrs. Bruce was the owner and president of The Hub Inc., a department store established in 1921. She was a member of Uriel Presbyterian Church and a graduate of Chester schools. She was the widow of Willie Bruce.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. today at Barron Funeral Home.

Freda Fisher

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Freda Tolley Fisher, 70, of 2323 Mount Gallant Road died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at her home.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Rev. Glenn Burriss officiating.

A Pageton, W.Va., native, Mrs. Fisher was a member of Four Square Pentecostal Church and was retired from Hoechst Celanese Corp. after 26 years.

Surviving are her husband, Lawrence N. Fisher of the home; her son, Larry N. Fisher of Rock Hill; her daughter, Teresa D. Crockett of Rock Hill; three sisters, Mildred Bean of Waiteville, W.Va., Nora Shelburne of Norfolk, Va., and Dorothy Fetzner of Erie, Pa.; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Larry N. Fisher, 1920 Williford Woods Lane.

Catoe James Sr.

LIBERTY HILL - Mr. Catoe E. James Sr., 58, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, in Atlanta.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Messiah Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Henry Alexander and Steffron James officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Born in Kershaw County, Mr. James was a member of Liberty Hill Presbyterian Church, where he was on the usher board and a choir member. He attended Kershaw County public schools and Sumter Technical College.

Surviving are five sons, Catoe E. James Jr. and Christopher K. James, both of Atlanta, Steffron James of Omaha, Neb., Maurice A. James of Montgomery, Ala., and Corey F. James of Lancaster; his brother, Isaac B. James of Liberty Hill; two sisters, Josephine Gaither of Liberty Hill and Margaret Stover of Charlotte; and 18 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at McCray Funeral Home.

LANCASTER - Mrs. Mary Margaret Stavracos, 82, of 413-B Plantation Road died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mahaffey Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. James D. Spencer III officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Born in Lancaster County, Mrs. Stavracos was the widow of John Stavracos.

Surviving are her brother, William Thurman of Lancaster; three sisters, Cecil Hardin and Josephine Huffman, both of Lancaster, and Mildred Kooley of Baltimore; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.
