Pearl Mobley

WINNSBORO - Mrs. Pearl Mayfield Mobley, 86, died Friday, Feb. 6, 1998, at Charlotte Health Care Center.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church on Camp Welfare Road in Fairfield County. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Mobley was the widow of David Coalter Mobley.

Surviving are two sisters, Alice E. Thompson and Emma E. Mayfield, both of Baltimore; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Washington Funeral Home of Great Falls is in charge of arrangements.

Cornelia Carlton

CHESTER - Mrs. Cornelia Grant "Kitty" Carlton, 90, of 151 E. Lacey St. died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, at Chester County Nursing Center.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Chester Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Will Brown officiating.

Mrs. Carlton was a Chester County native and graduated from Chester High School. She was a retired clerk from McCrory's department store. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her stepdaughter, Ann Carlton Cromer of Roanoke, Va.; and her step-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, furnace fund, P.O. Box 751, Chester, SC 29706.

Richard Freeman

CHARLOTTE - Mr. Richard Leroy Freeman, 75, of 17019 Greenhill Road died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Bible Baptist Church in Fort Mill, with the Rev. Jim Parrish officiating. Burial will be 4:15 p.m. at Westview Garden Cemetery in Bessemer City, N.C.

A native of Glendale, Mr. Freeman attended Bible Baptist Church in Fort Mill. He was retired from McLean Trucking Co., where he worked for more than 32 years. He was a member of AFL-CIO Local 71 and a member of the Retiree Breakfast Club.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Sexton Freeman of the home; his son, Jay A. Freeman of Alexis, N.C.; two daughters, Ruth F. Miller of Gastonia, N.C., and Pat F. Padgett of Rock Hill; four sisters, Eunice Kuntz of Charlotte, Merl Jenkins and Betty Archie, both of Fort Mill, and Caroline Parks of Del Rio, Tenn.; five grandchildren; six step-grandchildren, and four step-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

Lou Zettie Robertson

LANCASTER - Miss Lou Zettie Robertson, 96, of 610 Meeting St., died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, at Lancaster Convalescent Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. W. Harold Owens officiating. Burial will be at Center Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Kershaw.

Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cauthen Funeral Home.

James Black

ROCK HILL - Mr. James Russell Black, 49, of 309 Spencer St. died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, at Dorn V.A. Medical Center in Columbia.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jim Parrish officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

Mr. Black was a Savannah, Ga., native. He was an Army veteran and served in Vietnam, where he was a medic. He worked as an auto mechanic for the city of Rock Hill before he retired. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 34 and the Veterans of Foriegn Wars post 2889, both in Rock Hill. He also was a member of First Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Pat Stephenson Black; his son, Jamie Black of Rock Hill; his stepson, Rusty Williams of Rock Hill; his stepdaughter, Jeannie Blackwell of Lesslie; his mother, Beatrice Turner Black of Rock Hill; three brothers, Frank Black and Ronnie Black, both of Rock Hill, and Robert Black of Hendersonville, N.C.; three sisters, Patricia Robinson and Bonnie Collins, both of Rock Hill, and Sandra Roberts of Phoenix, Ariz.; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of his sister, Patricia Robinson, 3491 McConnells Highway, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

David Brown

FORT MILL - Mr. David Leroy Brown, 71, of 3800 Pleasant Road died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, at his home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Flint Hill Baptist Church. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Born in Ohio, Mr. Brown was a maintenance worker at the Springs Complex in Fort Mill. He was an Army veteran and served during the Korean conflict.

Surviving are his wife, Fannie Brown of Fort Mill; three daughters, Terrie Birchfield of Rock Hill, and Lynn Brown and Cathy Ann Brown, both of Belmont, N.C.; two sisters, Nellie Sprowl of Dayton, Ohio, and Betty Lou Altic of Toledo, Ohio; and his grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Whitesell-Wolfe Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Doris Burton

MARIETTA, Ga. - Mrs. Doris Vandiver Burton, 80, died Friday, Feb. 6, 1998.

Burial was at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta.

Born in Anderson County, Mrs. Burton retired from Kennestone Hospital as a ward secretary and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marietta. She was an avid reader and wrote poetry.

Surviving are two daughters, Patricia B. Leroy of Rock Hill and Alice Laverne Alden of Marietta; three sons, Ralph Melvin Burton of Marietta, Alan Lanier Burton of Sugar Hill, Ga., and Thomas Eugene Burton of Powder Springs, Ga.; five sisters, Jean Belding of Pueblo, Colo., and Mary Moorehead, Lena Loskoski, Frances Vandiver and Hilda McCurley, all of Anderson; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Vencore Hospice, 1190 Winchester Parkway, Smyrna, GA 30080.

Henry Cooke

CLOVER - Mr. Henry Jackson Cooke, 52, of 3281 Henry Knob Road died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at his home.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Woodside Cemetery, with the Rev. Elwood Seamster officiating.

Born in York County, Mr. Cook was a missionary.

Surviving are his son, David Cooke of Dover, Del.; three daughters, Susan C. Wooden of Spring Grove, Va., Tina E. Cooke of Chesapeake, Va., and Jenny Cooke of Dover; five brothers, Ronnie Cook and Calvin Cook, both of Clover, Dub Cook of York, Glenn Cooke of Belmont, N.C., and Don Cook of Lake Wylie; four sisters, Linda Apple and Anne Beaver, both of Gastonia, N.C., Margie Martin of Charlotte and Carolyn Cook of Belmont; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after the service at M.L. Ford and Sons Funeral Home of Clover.

Robert Gilmore

GASTONIA - Mr. Robert Lee Gilmore, 64, of 307 W. Sloan St. died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, at his home.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Greater Mount Hebron Baptist Church in Gastonia, N.C., with Dr. Timothy Scott officiating. Burial will be at Gaston Memorial Park.

A native of York County, Mr. Gilmore joined Langrum Branch Baptist Church in York at an early age and retired from Public Service Gas Co. of Gastonia.

Surviving are his wife, Annie Lindsay Gilmore; two daughters, Barbara A. Gilmore of Gastonia and Marilyn Love of High Point, N.C.; two sons, David Gilmore and Robert Gilmore Jr., both of Gastonia; his stepdaughter, Ranette Hayes of St. Petersburg, Fla.; five sisters, Sarah McClain, Diane Odom and Naomi Kendricks, all of York, Belle Barnette Falls of Gastonia, and Margaret Finch of Rock Hill; four brothers, Eddie Gilmore and William Gilmore, both of York, Larry Gilmore of Silver Springs, Md., and George Gilmore of Auburn, Mass.; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the church at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Willie Lambert

LANCASTER - Mr. Willie J. Lambert, 84, of 2801 Lyndell Way died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Pentecostal Holiness Church, with the Revs. Allen Brazzell and Cecil Lambert officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Born in Williamsburg County, Mr. Lambert owned and operated Lambert's Antiques since 1951. He helped establish Trinity Pentecostal Holiness Church in 1960, and was present at the groundbreaking ceremony. He was a deacon and Sunday school superintendent for 25 years, and was the widower of Willie Mae McManus Lambert.

Surviving are two sons, Donald R. "Buddy" Lambert of Lancaster and Jerry Wayne "Pookey" Lambert of Charlotte; three daughters, Evelyn Lambert Barnes of Camden, Christine Lambert Timmons of Lancaster, and Mary Frances Lambert Black of Statesville, N.C.; three brothers, the Rev. Cecil Lambert of Florence, and Clyde Lambert and Manlee Lambert, both of Andrews; his sister, Ozzie L. Ackerman of Andrews; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Pentecostal Holiness Church steeple fund, 1824 Airport Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Frances Horton

KERSHAW - Mrs. Frances Taylor Horton, 89, of 275 W. Second St. died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Abney Baptist Church, with the Revs. Mendle Baker, Larry Plyler and Trent McLaughlin officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Horton was a member of Abney Baptist Church. She was retired from Springs Industries, and was the widow of Lonnie Horton.

Surviving are three sons, L.J. Horton of Great Falls, and Edward Horton and Wilbur Horton, both of Kershaw; three daughters, Gaynell Horton of McBee, and Vera Robinson and Betty Hinson, both of Kershaw; three brothers, Floyd Taylor of Great Falls, and Lee Taylor and Ernest Taylor, both of Kershaw; six sisters, Hattie T. Miller, Ella Hill and Durcilla McManus, all of Lancaster, Grace Taylor and Gussie Keziah, both of Great Falls, and Katherine Taylor of Kershaw; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Vera and Hazel Robinson, 121 W. First St., Kershaw.

Viola McCabe

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa - Mrs. Viola Tee McCabe, 83, of 704 Maple Leaf Drive died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Beatty Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jeff Crawford officiating. Burial will be at Oquawka Cemetery.

Born in Kingston, Iowa, Mrs. McCabe was a homemaker and was a member of Church of Christ of New London.

Surviving are four daughters, Alice Brown of Herscher, Ill., Janet Foresman of Oneida, Tenn., Ethel Vice of Hannibal, Mo., and Betsy Johnson of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; her brother, Dale Tee of Oquawaka, Ill.; her sister, Evelyn Gregory of Mount Pleasant; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Cauthen Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

William Elledge Sr.

YORK - Mr. William "Bill" Alfred Elledge Sr. of Kelly Road died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

Burial was at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Born in Ware Shoals, Mr. Elledge was a retired textile salesman and member of King's Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Matthew's Masonic Lodge No. 358.

Surviving are his wife, Etolia Anne Massey Elledge; his son, William Elledge Jr. of York; two daughters, Teresa Ann Elledge Hicks of Dallas and Regina Dianne Elledge Hickey of Charlotte; his brother, Marion Robert Elledge of Greenwood; and seven grandchildren.
