Ward Poston

KERSHAW - Mr. Ward "Coot" Poston, 69, of 7085 Snowy Owl Road died Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998 at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw Chapel, with the Rev. Steve Angland officiating. Burial will be in the Kershaw City Cemetery.

Born in Lancaster, Mr. Poston was a farmer.

Surviving are his wife, Azillee Irene Chapple Poston; three sons, R. Dale Poston of Lancaster, and Donald R. Poston and Jerry W. Poston, both of Kershaw; his daughter, Debra Brady of Rock Hill; two brothers, Daniel "Dick" Poston and Billy Poston, both of Kershaw; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw Chapel and other times at the home, 7085 Snowy Owl Road.

Mary See

ROCK HILL - Ms. Mary June See, 47, of 1425 River Oaks Court died Friday, Feb. 13, 1998 at her home.

Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Revs. Randall Worley and Randy Lee officiating. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at Lifespring Church in Pineville, N.C.

A native of West Virginia, Ms. See was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Charlotte. She was a member of Lifespring Church of God in Pineville, N.C., where she was a member of the choir. She was an ordained minister.

Surviving are her mother, Eva Mae Williams See of Rock Hill; two brothers, John See of Hansford, W.Va. and David B. See of Handley W.Va.; two sisters, Carolyn VanDyck of Sanford, Va., and Linda S. Moser of Lancaster; and nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel and other times at the home of Eva Mae See, 1425 River Oaks Court.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730 or to the American Cancer Society, 339 E. Main Street, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel is in charge.

George Talford Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. George Frank Talford, Sr., 66, of 729 Carolina Ave. died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, with the Rev L. L. Robertson officiating. The Revs. L. Ellison, E.M. Browning and L. Pride will assist. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Talford was retired from the S.C. Department of Highways as a maintenance engineer. He attended Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Gospel Chorus. He attended York County public schools.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia Moise Talford of the home; four sons, George Frank Talford, Jr. of Alexandria, Va., Clayton L. Talford of Charlotte, and Jerry L. Talford and Linnie T. Talford, both of Rock Hill; his daughter, Sophia L. Chisolm of Rock Hill; his brother, Hinton Talford of Rock Hill; three sisters, Betty Jean Boyd of Charlotte, and Maggie Bell Dickerson and JoAnn Davis, both of Rock Hill; his granddaughter who he reared, LaDarricka S. Talford; and 11 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home. The body may be viewed from 1 to 6 p.m. today at Parker Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Parker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Andy Coleman

CHESTER - Mr. Andy Coleman, 92, of 163 Harris St. died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral services are 4:30 p.m. today at Black Rock Baptist Church, with the Rev. L.L. Robertson officiating. The Revs. W.E. Page and James Wilson will assist. Burial will be at Black Rock Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Coleman was a retired construction worker, a member of Friendship Baptist Church and member of the AP&B Society.

Surviving are his wife, Katherine Stokes Coleman; two sons, Rickie L. Coleman and Timothy Lightner, both of Chester; his daughter, Lula McCray of Washington, D.C.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home. The body will lie in state at 4 p.m. today at the church.

Denton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Leona Cunningham

LANCASTER - Mrs. Leona Craft Cunningham, 91, of 414 E. Arch St., died Friday, Feb. 13, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Ernie Thompson and Sam Thomas officiating. Burial will be at Westside City Cemetery.

Born in Homer, Ga., Mrs. Cunningham was the widow of Thornwell Cunningham. She graduated from the University of Georgia at Athens and moved to Lancaster in 1926 as a teacher and principal at Dry Creek School.

She also taught at Mitford School in Great Falls and North Elementary in Lancaster, where she was principal. She was principal at Erwin Farm Elementary in Lancaster for 38 years.

Mrs. Cunningham was involved in numerous community activities. She was a member of the S.C. Retired Teachers Association and volunteered at Springs Memorial Hospital admitting office. She was chairman of the hospital auxiliary and was a member of the Catawba Regional Planning Council's Aging Advisory Committee and the Golden Age Club. She was also a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she taught the adult Bible class.

When Mrs. Cunningham retired in 1975, she received the Educator of the Year Award for Lancaster County. She also received the Governor's Human Service Award in 1984, the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year Award, the American Legion Auxiliary of S.C. Volunteer of the Year and Field Service Award and Outstanding Older South Carolinian Award in 1987.

Surviving are her sister, Rosa Vinson of Athens, Ga.; two grandsons, Eric Kelly Rowell and Ernest Wendell Rowell Jr., both of Lancaster; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Erwin Elementary School, 1477 Locustwood Ave., Lancaster, SC 29720.

Steven Kimbrell

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Steven Lee Kimbrell, 45, of 2327 Brian Christopher Road, formerly of Rock Hill, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, at his home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Home in Rock Hill. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

Mr. Kimbrell was a self-employed contractor, a veteran of the Army and Navy, and was a member of Second Baptist Church in Lancaster.

Surviving are his half-brother, Martin Kimbrell Jr. of Rock Hill; and his caregivers, George and Lucy Rollings of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends at the home of George and Lucy Rollings, 4255 York Highway, Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to Northside Baptist Church, 1140 Curtis St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Charles Kirk

ROCK HILL - Mr. Charles Erwin Kirk, 56, of 520 Rutledge Drive, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church with the Revs. Tom Carter and Ray Mohrmann officiating. Burial will be at the church garden.

Mr. Kirk was a graduate of Ohio State University. He worked with Bowater for 15 years and was the safety director until last year. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard. He was a member of St. Matthias Episcopal Church, the Thursday Morning Prayer Group and taught Sunday school at York Place.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia Butler Kirk; two daughters, Kiersten Byrd of Rock Hill and Kimberly Willaby of Trinity, N.C.; his sister, Kay Edwards of Rock Hill; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Bass Funeral Home.

Clyde Pruett

YORK - Mr. Clyde Odell Pruett, 80, of 2390 S. S.C. 161, died Friday, Feb. 13, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Oakdale Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Buck Malcom officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

Born in York County, Mr. Pruett was a retired motor grader with York County. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Nellie Mae McDaniel Pruett; two sons, Eugene Pruett and Arthur Pruett, both of York; his sister, Ruby Farris of Clover; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Dennis Robinson

LANCASTER - Mr. Dennis Robinson, 45, of 1372 Reece Road, died Friday, Feb. 13, 1998.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at East Side Baptist Church with the Rev. Joel Rhyner and the Rev. Donald Tillman officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Born in Lancaster, Mr. Robinson was a member of East Side Baptist Church and was retired from Bowers Fibers.

Surviving are two daughters, Denise Hodge and Stacey Robinson, both of Lancaster; and his brother, Bobby Robinson of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at 909 Marion St.

Rose Rollings

KERSHAW - Mrs. Rose Mackey Rollings, 81, of 3141 Fork Hill Road, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, at White Oak Manor.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lancaster Memorial Park with the Rev. Charlie Simmons officiating.

Born in Lancaster County, Mrs. Rollings was the widow of John Clinton Rollings.

Surviving are her daughter, Patricia Deese of Port Orchard, Wash.; her brother, Walter Mackey of Kershaw; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Cauthen Funeral Home in Kershaw.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Emmer Anderson

CHESTER - Mrs. Emmer E. Johnson Anderson, 91, of 230 McFadden St. died Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Second Wilson Baptist Church, with the Rev. W.M. Bryson officiating, assisted by the Revs. Charles E. Robinson Sr. and Ronald Feaster. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Anderson was a member of Second Wilson Baptist Church, where she was a choir member, and was a former member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Fairfield County. She was a retired domestic worker and was the widow of Thomas Johnson and George Anderson.

Surviving are her brother, Masseo Hudson of Columbia; and three sisters, Eva Mae Davis of High Point, N.C., Thomasina Bluford of Lugoff and Elizabeth Lasenberry of Newark, N.J.

The family will receive friends at the home.

The body will be taken to the church at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
