Dorothy McFaddin

MANNING — Dorothy Eadon “Dotty” McFaddin, 65, wife of Ansel Rose McFaddin, Jr., died Wednesday, December 29, 2004, at her home in Manning. Her devotion to God and her fellow man formed the foundation for her life and directed her career and activities.

Mrs. McFaddin was born December 27, 1939, to the late Clarence Edwin Eadon and Dorothy Elizabeth Bomar Eadon. She was a lifelong resident of Manning. She was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County and graduated from Manning High School. She attended the Medical University of South Carolina and graduated from the School of Nursing. She began her nursing career at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, was a nurse with Clarendon County School District 1, and retired after 32 years with the Clarendon County Health Dept. While at the Health Department, she served as the county nurse supervisor for eleven years. She was awarded the South Carolina Excellence in Public Health Nursing Award, Clarendon County Nurse of the Year and DHEC Service Award. She also served as president of the S.C. Nurses Association. She was a lifetime member of Manning United Methodist Church where she served on the Board of Trustees, Administrative Board and Council of Ministries, and was chairman of the Worship Committee for many years. She was a member and circle leader of the Myrtle Strange Circle. She also served as co-chairman of the Stewardship Committee for the Manning United Methodist Church Capital Funds Campaign. She was active in community affairs volunteering for the American Red Cross, Clarendon County Council on Aging, Meals on Wheels, and the Palmetto Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. She was the 2000 Volunteer of the Year for the Mid-State SC Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. She was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames, founded and was a charter member of the Clarendon Pilot Club where she also served as president, co-director of Community Projects, and on the State Board of Governors. She was an active member of the beloved “Five Alive Group”.

She leaves to honor and cherish her memory her husband of 43 years; a son, Dr. Ansel Rose McFaddin, III, and wife Dr. Jennifer McGraw McFaddin of Sumter; a daughter, Frances McFaddin Moody and husband, Scott Holman Moody of Hilton Head Island; four grandchildren, Katelyn McFaddin, Robert Moody, John McFaddin and Eadon Moody; three sisters, Margaret Robertson and husband, Jerry, of Manning, Claire Eadon of Charleston, and Jackie Chalfant and husband, Mike, of Columbia; and a beloved sister-in-law, Martha Lee Rose and husband, Ollen, of Manning.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Manning United Methodist Church with the Rev. Debra Quilling officiating, assisted by Dr. James C. Adams. Burial will be in the McFaddin Family Cemetery in Gable.

Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 68, Manning, SC 29102 and the Clarendon County Pilot Club’s “Caregiver’s Morning Out”, P.O. Box 495, Manning, SC 29102.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 301 Fuller Street, Manning.

Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

Rita Rooney

ABBEVILLE — A Mass of Christian burial for Rita Mary Hawco Rooney, 99, widow of John Rooney, will be held at 10 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in Cedar Springs ARP Church Cemetery. Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Harbor Main, Newfoundland, to Patrick and Anna Sullivan Hawco, she died Dec. 29, 2004. Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Christle Rivers

COLUMBIA — Homegoing services for Christle Rivers, 15, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Full Gospel Church with burial in Serenity Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home. Born in Columbia to Jerry Sr. and Carolyn G. Rivers, she died December 25, 2004. Surviving are parents; siblings, Jerry Jr., Jerome, Courtney, Collette; grandparents, Herbert and Sarah Garrett.

Helen Violette

LAKE CITY — Services for Helen Walker Moore Violette, 87, are 11 a.m. Saturday at Olanta Presbyterian Church; burial in Olanta Baptist Churchyard; visitation is 6-8 tonight at Floyd Funeral Home, Olanta. Born in Chase City, Va., to Jesse and Blanch C. Walker, she died Dec. 29, 2004. Surviving: children, Doris Feagin, Edward and Colin Moore; stepchildren, Mary Smith, Delores Yoke, Bill, David and Peter Violette.

Glenn Wessinger

SANDY RUN — Graveside services for Derrell Glenn Wessinger, 41, of Sandy Run, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 1, 2005, in Southland Memorial Gardens, officiated by Rev. Robert W. Hawkins. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Memorials may be made to Carolina Children’s Home, 3201 Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29204.

Mr. Wessinger died Thursday, December 30, 2004. Born in Columbia, he is a son of Henry C. and Janie Kaney Wessinger, Jr. Mr. Wessinger was a member of St. David Lutheran Church.

Surviving, besides his parents of Sandy Run, are his daughters, Lindsey Marie Wessinger of NC, Chelsea Marie Wessinger of Lexington; son, Kenneth Derrell Todd of Lexington; sister, Terry W. Bell of St. Matthews; brother and sister-in-law, Chris and Stephanie Wessinger of Lexington; maternal grandmother, Pauline Kaney of Lexington; one niece; two nephews; and one great nephew.

John Vivona

SUMTER — Services for John S. Vivona, 81, widower of Phyllis Vivona, are 1 p.m. Saturday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with burial in St. Lawrence Cemetery. A prayer service will be 6 tonight at the funeral home with visitation following until 8 p.m. Born in New York to Cosmo and Giovanna Beninata Vivona, he died Dec. 28, 2004. Surviving are daughters, Jean Lasnier, Valerie Vivona; 4 grandchildren.

Frances Woiczechowski

AIKEN — A Mass of Christian Burial for Frances Woiczechowski, 81, will be held 1 p.m. Monday at St. Mary Help of Christian’s Church. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Sunday at George Funeral Homes, Historic Downtown Chapel.

Ralph Hagins Jr.

LANCASTER — Services for Ralph Todd “Pete” Hagins Jr., 57, USAF Vietnam veteran, 2 p.m. Saturday (visitation 6-8 tonight) at Cauthen Funeral Home, burial in Lancaster Memorial Park with military honors. Born in Lancaster to Ralph Sr. and Margie Threatt Hagins, he died Dec. 30, 2004. Surviving: sons, Steven and Michael Hagins; father, and his wife, Argie Hagins; brothers, William, James, Michael Hagins.

Ken Blanton

LONGS — Services for Ken Charlie Blanton, 68, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday (visitation 6-8 tonight) at Hardwick Funeral Home, Loris, with burial in Blanton Cemetery. Born to Charlie and Essie Blanton, he died December 29, 2004. Surviving are his wife, Lois Buffkin Blanton; children, Terry Blanton, Rita Melvin; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four nieces; nephew; other relatives.

Johnnie Wright

WEST COLUMBIA — Services with burial for Johnnie Eldrick Wright, 72, will be 3 p.m. today at St. Mark Baptist Church, Bishopville. Jones Metropolitan Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Bishopville to Robert Wright and Essie Scarborough, he died Dec. 22, 2004. He married Ms. Olar Mae Lunn. Surviving: children, Nathaniel, Edward, Richard, John Jr., Charles, Joann, Lorraine, Betty, Linda; 2 sisters; grandchildren.

Abbygail Bromell

GEORGETOWN — Services with burial for Abbygail Bromell, 52, are 2 p.m. today at St. Paul AME Church, Plantersville. Wilds’ Daughter Home for Funerals is in charge. Born in Darlington to Henry and Pearlie Sims, she died Dec. 26, 2004. Surviving: husband, Freddie Bromell; children, La’Shawn Moody, Freddie Jr., Ryan, Jamison and Rhese Bromell; brothers, Noris, Leo Sims; four grandchildren.

Donald Bloome Jr.

CAMERON — Services with burial for Donald R. Bloome Jr., 23, U.S. Navy veteran, are 1 p.m. Saturday at St. John Baptist Church; visitation 2-8 p.m. today at Jenkins Funeral Home. Born to Donald Sr. and Shirley Shuler Bloome, he died Dec. 24, 2004. Surviving: mother; sisters, Shena Shuler, Nicole Stackhouse, Donna Floyd, Sharon Robinson, Linda Collins; 6 nieces; 4 nephews; special cousin, Willie Shuler.

Elnora Brewer

CAYCE — Services for Elnora Emma Brewer, 89, of Cayce, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 31, 2004 at the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia, officiated by Rev. Dr. Donald F. West and Rev. Kristen Richardson-Frick. Burial will follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Pineview Baptist Church, 113 Melody Lane, Cayce, SC 29033; Swansea UMC Building Fund, P.O. Box 601, Swansea, SC 29160; Harvest Hope Food Bank, 2220 Shop Road, Columbia, SC 29201 or Riverbanks Zoo, 500 Wildfire Pkwy, Columbia, SC 29210.

Mrs. Brewer, widow of Luther J. Brewer, died Thursday, December 30, 2004. Born in Herminie, PA, she was the daughter of the late Wilson McClure Akins and Annabell Huffman Akins Hawley. Mrs. Brewer was a member of Pineview Baptist Church. She was a member of Tri-City Senior Center, Tri-City Singers, Swansea Senior Citizens, Federation of the Blind, and was a founding member of the Riverbanks Zoo. She also participated in the Senior Olympics. Mrs. Brewer had retired from Eckerd Drugs after more than forty years.

An avid volunteer, Mrs. Brewer worked with Brookland-Cayce School District #2 for eleven years where she was also a “latch key” mother and helped children learn to read. She volunteered with the American Red Cross for over six years, the Harvest Hope Food Bank, up until age 87, for twelve years, and Tri-County Meals On Wheels. Mrs. Brewer spent many years crocheting baby layettes for abused children, outfits for teddy bears with the Salvation Army, and lap robes for Tucker Center and various nursing homes. She won many ribbons at the State Fair for her layettes.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Annabell and Lee Harold Witt, Jr. of Swansea; step-son, Barney F. Brewer of Blythewood; brother, Frank N. Akins of Monroe, MI; grandchildren, Barbara A. Black, Judy D. Wright (Warren); great grandchildren, William Lee Black, James Barrett Black (Tiffany), Clayton Edward Black, Brittany Luann Wright; and a number of nieces and nephews of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Monroe, MI.

Mrs. Brewer was predeceased by three brothers, Wilson Akins, Charles Milton Akins, and George Donahue.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Steven Madden with Lexington Oncology, Dr. Paul Smith and staff of Lexington Medical Center, and special friend and neighbor, H. Carter Siegling.

Sadie Bowie

GREENWOOD — Sadie Lou Dodgen Bowie, 93, of 424 Kathy Hill Road, widow of J. A. Frank Bowie, died Thursday, December 30, 2004, in NHC Health Care Center.

Born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late William Thomas and Bessie Readen Dodgen. She retired from Greenwood Mills, Mathews Plant, after 51 years of service and was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church and the Asbury Sunday School Class.

She was preceded in death by a stepson, John H. Bowie.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Henry W. (Frankie Bowie) Mitchell of Greenwood and Mrs. Wendell (Willie Bowie) Bedenbaugh of Saluda; a stepdaughter, Katie Bowie Powell of Jacksonville, FL; a brother, Hilton Dodgen of Greenwood; six grandchildren, Kathy Worthington, Walter Able, Brenda Rodgers, Jackie Day, Sherry Ephinshiner and Milissa Holyoak; three step grandchildren, Sabrina Manning, Wendell Bedenbaugh, Jr. and Tian Ware; ten great grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joseph L. Curtis officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Hilton Dodgen, Jr., Randy Dodgen, Darrell Dodgen, Preston Mitchell, Michael Day, Jeremy Day and Win French.

Honorary escort will be the members of the Asbury Sunday School Class of Rehoboth United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.

The family members are at the home, 424 Kathy Hill Road and at the home of her daughter, Frankie Mitchell, 514 Kathy Hill Road.

Memorials may be made to the Rehoboth United Methodist Church building fund, 1808 Callison Highway, Greenwood, SC 29646.
