Eva Broughton

KERSHAW - Mrs. Eva Williams Broughton, 95, of 9503 Kershaw-Camden Highway died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1998, at White Oak Manor in Lancaster.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Bethany Baptist Church, with the Revs. Robert Rivers and Hugh McKinney officiating. Burial will be at Hanging Rock United Methodist Church cemetery.

Born in Kershaw, Mrs. Broughton was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She was the widow of Furman Franklin Broughton.

Surviving are two sons, Furman W. Broughton of Kershaw and Henry M. Broughton of Lancaster; two daughters, Verda Roberts and Shirley Roberts, both of Kershaw; 12 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Furman Broughton, 514 S. Minor St.

Lillie Mae Dixon

CHESTER - Ms. Lillie Mae Dixon, 86, of Byrnes Medical Center in Columbia, formerly of Jeter Street in Chester, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998, at the center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Second Wilson Baptist Church, with the Rev. R.Z. Bailey officiating and the Rev. Robinson assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A Chester County native, Ms. Dixon was the widow of David Dixon. She was a member of Second Wilson Baptist Church, where she was a deaconess, in the missionary circle and a choir member. She was a member of Josephus Eastern Star Chapter 160 and a member of the CB & A Society. She attended the schools of Chester County and was retired from Phillips Industries

Surviving are her brother, Captain White of Philadelphia; her sister, Margaretta Evett of Philadelphia; her nephew whom she reared, Lorenzo White of Chester; four nieces all of whom she reared, Addie Grant of Chester, Gwendolyn Smith of Jamaica, N.Y., Odessa McClurkin of Long Island, N.Y., and Fannie Mae Jackson of Baltimore.

The family will receive friends at the home of Floyd and Addie Grant, 121 1/2 Mill St.

The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Virgie Harper

YORK - Mrs. Virgie Hudgins Harper, 82, of 101 Springdale Drive died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Union Baptist Church, with the Rev. Alan Price officiating and the Rev. Shannon Duncan assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Born in York County, Mrs. Harper was a homemaker and a member of Union Baptist Church. She was the widow of Edward Matthew Harper.

Surviving are three sons, Tommy Harper of Rock Hill, Andy Harper and Jerry Harper, both of York; five daughters, Dorothy H. Adkins of Rock Hill, Libby H. Lindly of Greenwood, Cathy H. Cole of Charlotte, Louise H. Moss and Peggy H. Wells, both of York; her stepson, Rufus Harper of Charlotte; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at York Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Union Baptist Church, P.O. Box 976, York, SC 29745.

Helen Hemphill

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Mrs. Helen Simpson Hemphill, 53, of 1677 President St., formerly of Rock Hill, died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at St. Mary Hospital in Brooklyn.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Union Baptist Church in Newport with pastor Ronnie Baxter officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Hemphill was educated in York County public schools and graduated from Emmett Scott High School. She was employed by Tell Candy Co. and was a member of Union Baptist Church.

Surviving are four sons, Donzell Hemphill and Heyward Hemphill, both of Brooklyn, Lyndon Hemphill and Norman Hemphill, both of Rock Hill; two daughters, Claudette Hemphill and Melanie Hemphill, both of Brooklyn; four brothers, Jerry L. McMoore of Newark, N.J., Jessie L. McMoore, John T. Simpson and Joe L. McMoore, all of Rock Hill; six sisters, Mary M. Stroud and Bettye R. Johnson, both of Rock Hill, Martha M. Jackson of Richmond, Va., Sallie M. Shaw of Irving, N.J., Barbara Smith of Rose Hill, N.J., and Margie Sutton of Diamond Bar, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 324 Berry St. in Rock Hill.

The body may be viewed from 1 to 6 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at Parker Funeral Home.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Georgia Jones

YORK - Mrs. Georgia Anna Floyd Jones,75, of 102 W. Jefferson St. died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at Forsythe Memorial Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Galilee Baptist Church, with the Rev. S.E. Tyndall officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Jones was a member of Galilee Baptist Church, where she was a member of the musical choir, the church choir, a former usher board member and in the missionary circle. She was a member of the NAACP, the Upper Division of the Sandy River Baptist Association and was active in other local civic groups.

Surviving are her foster daughter, Ernestine S. Adams of York; and her cousin, Evelyn Tyndall of Winston-Salem, N.C.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3 p.m. Thursday at Galilee Baptist Church.

The body may be viewed from 5 to 7 tonight at Wright Funeral Home.

Susie Lackey

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Susie McGee Lackey, 81, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, at Mecklenburg Health Care Center.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Laurelwood Cemetery in Rock Hill.

Born in Rock Hill, Mrs. Lackey retired from Nebel Knitting Co. and was a member of Berry Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son, Jim McGee of Fort Mill; her daughter, Myrna Hendrix of Lawrenceville, Ga.; her sister, Jessie G. Rogers of Tryon, N.C.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the home of Jim McGee, 420 Hemingford Grey, Bailiwyck subdivision.

Eloise McLurkin

CHESTER - Mrs. Eloise Babcock McLurkin, 81, of 140 Babcock Drive died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998, at Grace Hospital in Detroit.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Metropolitan AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Cordell Jenkins officiating and elder Carl Glenn and Rev. Arthur Randolph Jr. assisting. Burial will be at Benson Cemetery.

A Chester native, Mrs. McLurkin was a graduate of Brainerd High School and Brainerd Junior College. She was a member of Metropolitan AME Zion Church, where she was a member of the Christian Education Board, missionary society, senior musical choir and Stewardess Board No. 2. She was a member of Magna Klumba and worked at the voting polls for over 25 years. She was the widow of Floyd McLurkin.

Surviving are two brothers, David H. Babcock of Detroit and Futrey Babcock of Augusta, Ga.

The family will receive friends at the home.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Geneva Pickett

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Geneva Pickett, 92, of 1054 S. Stonewall St. died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, at her home.

NAPLES, Fla. - Mrs. Josephine Brandon "Jo" Snypp, 89, died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Friday at Naples Memorial Gardens-Chapel of Peace, with the Rev. James Hervey officiating.

Born in Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. Snypp was a graduate of Ohio State University, a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, a charter member of Moorings Presbyterian Church and a member of Naples Community Hospital Auxiliary. She was past president of the Junior League in Rock Hill.

She was the widow of J. Robert Snypp.

Surviving are two sons, J. Robert Snypp Jr. and Channing H. Snypp, both of Atlanta; her daughter, Margaret S. Nottle of Murphy, N.C.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

YORK - Mrs. Helen Brimer Tallent, 81, of 101 Blackburn St. died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at White Oak Manor Nursing Home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Central Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ray Talley officiating and the Rev. Owen Duncan assisting. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

Born in Gastonia, N.C., Mrs. Tallent was a retired spinner at Cannon Mills. She was a member of Central Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher.

Surviving are her husband, Maxie H. Tallent of York; three daughters, Janice Widener and Martha Campbell, both of Chester, and Maxine Bailes of Rock Hill; four brothers, Leonard Brimer of Cramerton, N.C., Ed Brimer of York, and Lewis Brimer and Floyd Brimer, both of Gastonia, N.C.; five sisters, Clota A. McCalister, Ethel B. Blanton, Ruby B. White and Nellie B. Schools, all of York, and Jessie B. Huffstetler of Gastonia; 10 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church, 110 Ross Cannon St., York, SC 29745 or to the Parkinson's Foundation.

Mary Walters

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Mary Mitchell Walters, 82, of 1321 Ebinport Road died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Park Baptist Church, with the Revs. Eddie Ramsey and Mike Wooten officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

Mrs. Walters was a York County native. She was a seamstress for J.C. Penney and a homemaker. She was a member of Park Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Coy D. Walters; three daughters, Jane W. Hough of McConnells, Sarah W. Boros of Orlando, Fla., and Gail W. Clark of Charlotte; three brothers, Oscar "Dick" Mitchell of St. George, and Theodore "Ted" Mitchell and Phillip Mitchell, both of York; four sisters, Rozelle M. Harper of Rock Hill, Jessie M. Smith of York, Louise M. Lipscomb of Harleyville and Edith M. Roberts of Charlotte; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Park Baptist Church or the charity of one's choice.

Howard Worthy

CHESTER - Mr. Howard "Dub Long" Worthy, 43, of 144 Hinton St. died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Union Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Entzminger officiating and the Rev. Robert Worthy delivering the eulogy. Burial will be at Ebenezer Baptist Church cemetery.

A Chester native, Mr. Worthy was of the Baptist faith and attended Union Baptist Church. He was a former employee of Coogler Oil Co. and attended Chester County public schools.

Surviving are two brothers, Theron Worthy and Oscar Worthy, both of Chester; two sisters, Betty Davis and Magalene Cornwell, both of Chester; his caretakers, Terrell and Larphene Robinson of the home.

The family will receive friends at the home of Tammy Cornwell, 201 Town and Country Lane Apt. 196.

The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. today.
