Jerica Joseph

YORK - Jerica R. Joseph, 9, of 153 Hall St. died Tuesday, June 22, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Christian Home Baptist Church in Lowrys, with the Rev. Lloyd Reid officiating and the Rev. George Lowery and Daniel Chisholm assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Jerica was a native of York County. She was the daughter of James Thomas Joseph Jr. of Rock Hill and Hazel "Inez" McClurkin Joseph of York. She was a member of Christian Home Baptist Church. She was a rising fourth-grader at Hunter Street Elementary School in York, where she was in the advanced reading program and computer lab program.

Surviving in addition to her parents are three sisters, Betty M. Burris of York, LaToya S. McClurkin of the home and Shawn White of Rock Hill; her brother, James Joseph III of Rock Hill; her paternal grandmother, Julia Mae Joseph of Rock Hill; her paternal grandfather, James Thomas Joseph Sr. of Philadelphia; a maternal grandmother, Henrietta Mc-Clurkin of York; her paternal great-grandfather, Jay Joseph of Rock Hill; and her maternal great-grandmother, Eliza Clems of Charlotte.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body may be viewed from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St. Chester.

The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Junior Payne

HARTSVILLE - Mr. Junior Coleman Payne, 72, of 808 West College Ave. died Wednesday, June 23, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Haile Gold Mine Baptist Church, with the Revs. Steve Anglin and Marion Dry officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Kershaw, Mr. Payne was a son of the late Ben Payne and Minnie Catoe Payne. He was retired from Springs Industries and was an U.S. Army veteran. He was a life member and former Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8990 and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 172.

Surviving are his wife, Maggie Campbell Payne; his son, Larry D. Payne of Kershaw; his daughter, Becky Hinson of Kershaw; his stepson, Lenard Campbell of Hartsville; two brothers, Jessie B. Payne of Kershaw and Connie Payne of Jefferson; two sisters, Ollie Mae Bartell and Arlevia Wallace, both of Kershaw; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Barry Hinson, 5019 Payne Road, Kershaw.

Margaret Potts

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Margaret Dunlap Potts, 80, of 1212 Winthrop Drive died Thursday, June 24, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at St. John's United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Dr. Tim McClendon and Carol R. Cannon officiating. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Potts was a daughter of the late John Sidney Dunlap and Addie Caveny Dunlap. She was an honor graduate of Win-throp Training School and earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from Winthrop College.

She was an honorary life member of the United Methodist Women of St. John's United Methodist Church, where she was a charter member of the WSCS and UMW. At St. John's, Mrs. Potts served as circle leader, chairman of the History and Records Committee and was an active member of the Administrative Board.

She was also a member of the Retired Fellowship Group and Council on Ministries. She taught in the nursery and kindergarten departments. She played piano for the Browning Sykes Sunday school class since 1949 and for the Never Grow Old group at Rogers Memorial ARP Church.

Mrs. Potts was a substitute teacher for about 15 years in the Rock Hill School District and taught Educable Mentally Handicapped for three years in the York School District.

She was a charter member of the Golden Bells Handbell Group at St. John's and a former member of the Rock Hill Woman's Club. She was secretary and treasurer of the Winthrop Training School Class of 1936. She was secretary and treasurer of the Winthrop Drive Neighborhood Group and historian for the Dunlap Clan.

Mrs. Potts was past president of the Rock Hill Civitan Club and received the Civitan of the Year award several times, which is the highest honor given. She also received the S.C. District Honor Key and Otis Jeffcoat Award, which she received with her husband.

Surviving are her husband, James Barnette Potts Sr.; her son, James B. Potts Jr. of Clinton; her daughter, Leila Jane Potts Long of Rock Hill; her brother John Sidney Dunlap Jr. of Columbia; two sisters, Jean D. Caldwell of Charlotte and Ruth D. Jackson of Taylors; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Bass Funeral Home.

Odessa Young

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Odessa Young of Rock Hill, formerly of Chester, died Monday, June 21, 1999, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road, Chester, with the Rev. Leroy Ellison officiating and the Revs. Ronal King, J.D. Burris and William A. Chisholm assisting. Burial will be at Mount Hopewell Baptist Church.

A native of Fairfield County, Mrs. Young was a daughter of the late Abraham Young and Frances Wright Young. She was a former member of Mount Zion AME Zion Church in Fairfield and Rehoboth AME Zion Church in Richburg. She later became a Jehovah's Witness. She was an Eastern Star member.

Surviving are her son, Aaron Young of Rock Hill; three sons she raised as her own, Johnny Marion Young, John E. Young and Ernest Young; four daughter she raised as her own, Anne Mae Young Ferguson, Inez Brown, Laura Moffatt and Ophelia Walls; 34 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the home of her son, Aaron Young Sr., and her granddaughter, Connie White, 336 Barnes St., Rock Hill.

Isaac Cameron

LANCASTER - Mr. Isaac Paul Cameron, 82, of 306 Chesterfield Ave. died Thursday, June 24, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Immanuel Baptist Church, with the Revs. Dale Roach, C.B. Dunn and Roy Miles officiating.

Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Williamsburg County, he was a son of the late Robert James Cameron and Netta Shaffer Cameron. He was the widower of Gertrude Burch Cameron. He was the retired owner and operator of Cameron's Barber Shop. He was a graduate of LaSalle, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, member of Jackson Masonic Lodge and member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred Gandy Cameron; four daughters, Diane C. Williams, Joyce Thurman, Janice Steele and Elizabeth Altman, all of Lancaster; his stepdaughter, Robin Gainey of Lancaster; two sisters, Wessie Gutzman of St. Paul, Minn., and Molly Lunceford of Rockingham, N.C.; his brother, David Kenneth Cameron of Lancaster; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Talitha Cardwell

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Talitha Leslie Cardwell, 83, of 538 Walnut St. died Tuesday, June 22, 1999, at Magnolia Manor.

The graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Laurelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Forest Musselman officiating.

A native of Durham, N.C., Mrs. Cardwell was a daughter of the late Thomas Melvin Leslie and Avalone Huddleston Leslie. She was retired from M.L. Lowenstein after 35 years of service. She was a member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church and a member of the Emma Bennett Circle.

Surviving are her son, Tom Cardwell of Rock Hill; her daughter, Lynn Hooper of York; her sister, Katherine L. Shonta of Middletown, Conn.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home.

George Carr

CHARLOTTE - Mr. George William Carr, 69, of 12527 Autumn Blaze Drive died Thursday, June 24, 1999, at home.

The memorial service will be 11 a.m. today at Wolfe Funeral Home in Fort Mill, with the Rev. Richard Hamm officiating.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Dwayne R. Spence Funeral home in Canal Winchester, Ohio. Burial will be at the Lithopolis Cemetery in Lithopolis, Ohio.

A native of Hoboken, N.J., Mr. Carr was a son of the late Joseph Carr and Theresa Carr. He was an U.S. Army veteran and served in the Special Forces during the Korean War era. He was a retired conductor with the CSX Railway. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Cross Church of Charlotte.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Carr; his daughter, Catherine Diane Stern of Savannah, Ga.; three stepsons, Skip Price of Portland, Ore., Michael Price of Greentown, Ind., and Randall Price of Pickerington, Ohio; his stepdaughter, Sheryl Marx of Canal Winchester; his sister, Ronnie Otten of Hoboken; and seven step-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Dwayne R. Spence Funeral Home, Canal Winchester, Ohio.

George Duncan

ROCK HILL - Mr. George Duff Duncan, 70, of 644 Bancroft Drive died Thursday, June 24, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Chris Ehlers officiating. Burial will be Mount Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst, Ill.

A native of Philadelphia, Mr. Duncan was a son of Evelyn Duff Duncan of Deerfield Beach, Fla., and the late George Duncan. He attended the University of Illinois and was retired from

Flexonics Corp. in Bartlett, Ill., after 34 years, where he was district sales manager of the Southeast Division. For many years he lived in Algonquin, Ill., where he was a past president of the Lions Club. He was Cub scoutmaster for five years. He was an U.S. Army veteran and member of the Illinois National Guard. He was a past member of the Elks Club and Rock Hill Country Club.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Janet Holmes Duncan; three sons, David Duncan of Elgin, Ill., and James Duncan and Richard Duncan, both of Springfield, Va.; his sister, Lois Duncan of Deerfield, Fla.; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home after the service.

Josie Lindsay

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Josie Lindsay, 89, of 383 Redwood Road died Wednesday, June, 23, 1999, at Beverly Health Care.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Nazareth Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. John T. McCoy officiating and the Revs. John H. Bailey, B.R. Wilson, Sidney Murdock and Sandra McCoy assisting.

A native of York County, Mrs. Lindsay was a daughter of the late Mose Hinton and Mary Lumpkin Hinton. She was the widow of John Lindsay. Mrs. Lindsay attended the York County public schools and was a member of Nazareth Baptist Church.

Surviving are her sister, Rebecca H. White of Rock Hill; her brother, Willie Hinton of Rock Hill; and a niece who was her caregiver, Fannie White Mobley of the home.

The family will receive friends at the home and from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Nazareth Baptist Church.

The body may be viewed from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at Parker Funeral Home.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Monday.

Roberta Love

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Roberta Robertson Love, 76, of 3151 Lesslie Highway died Friday, June 25, 1999, at the home of her daughter.

The graveside service will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Lancaster Memorial Park Mausoleum, with the Rev. John Mullis officiating.

A native of Lancaster, Mrs. Love was a daughter of the late Thomas Robertson and Fannie Barfield Robertson. She was owner of Loveland Child Care Center and a member of Catawba Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Glenn Herman "Tomato Man of Lesslie" Love; two daughters, Janis Lefler and Tammy Love Alexander, both of Rock Hill; her sister, Esther Robertson Nunnery of Rock Hill; four grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Bill and Janis Lefler, 1756 Elmwood Drive.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

John McFadyen

ROCK HILL - Mr. John "Jack" McFadyen, 36, of 410 Saluda St. died Wednesday, June 23, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The memorial service will be 3 p.m. today at Robinson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Billy R. Wilson officiating.

A native of Glasgow, Scotland, Mr. McFadyen moved to the United States in 1976. He moved to Rock Hill in 1990. He was a professional truck driver and was educated in Scotland and Connecticut. He coached in the youth soccer league at Cherry Park. He was an avid piano player.

Surviving are his wife, Angela Heath McFadyen; his son, John C. McFadyen of the home; his daughter, Mariah J. McFadyen of the home; his stepdaughter, Ebony J. Heath of the home; his parents, John and Hannah McFadyen Sr. of East Hartford, Conn.; two brothers, Alan McFadyen and Kenneth McFadyen, both of Hartford, Conn.; and his sister, Constance McFadyen Candales of Glestonbury, Conn.

Sarah McLemore

CHESTER - Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Meador McLemore, 92, of 1417 Meador Road died Thursday, June 24, 1999, at Chester County Nursing Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Cedar Hurst Plantation, 1417 Meador Road, Chester, with the Revs. Clay Waldrip and Earl Lee officiating. Burial will be in the family cemetery on the plantation.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. McLemore was a daughter of the late William Hawkins Meador and Emma Atkinson Meador. She was the widow of Robert Young McLemore. Mrs. McLemore was a retired school teacher and taught in Chester, Dillion County, Fayetteville, N.C., and Florida. She attended the Chester County schools and graduated from Winthrop College. She was a member of Chester First Baptist Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Sarah Floyd of Chester; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 518, Chester, SC 29706.

Elliott Montgomery

YORK - Mr. Elliott "Pete" Montgomery, 85, of 803 Hunter St. died Wednesday, June 23, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at White Hill AME Zion Church, with the Rev. W. O. Thompson officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

A native of York, Mr. Montgomery was a son of the late Willie Gaine Montgomery and Martha June Starnes Montgomery. He lived much of his adult life in Morristown, N.J. He was a member of White Hill AME Zion Church, where he served as trustee, class leader and in various other capacities.

Surviving are his wife, Lucy Berry Montgomery; his daughter, Laura McKinney of St. Nichola, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Wright Funeral Home.

The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Monday.
