LANCASTER - Mrs. Joyce S. Rainey, 60, died Friday, June 25, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Cross Roads Baptist Church, with the Revs. Frank Jolly and Church Griffin officiating. Burial will be at Union Baptist Church Cemetery.

A native of Union County, Mrs. Rainey was a daughter of the late William Conley Sutton and Ruth Wallace Sutton.

Surviving are her husband, John Rainey; two sons, Clark Crump of Lancaster and Eric Crump of Rock Hill; her daughter, Renee Edgemon of Youngstown, Fla.; her stepdaughter, Joyce Rainey of Lake Norman, N.C.; her brother, Dennis R. Sutton of Lancaster; 10 grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the home of Clark Crump, 3303 Lamplighter Road, Lancaster.

McEwen Funeral Home in Monroe, N.C., is in charge.

Edna Sims

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Edna Lucas Sims, 83, 1611 Constitution Blvd. died Thursday, June 24, 1999, at Beverly Health Care.

The funeral will be private.

A native of Lancaster, Mrs. Sims was a homemaker. She was the widow of Hazel Sims.

Surviving are her stepdaughter, Shirley Bigham of Great Falls; two nieces, Doris Paul and Doris Brazell, both of Rock Hill; and her nephew, Robert Sims of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends at the home of Doris Paul, 266 Westerwood Drive, Rock Hill.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

William Wendt

CLOVER - Mr. William Harold Wendt, 61, 126-A S. Main St. died Thursday, June 24, 1999, at the Dorn Veterans Administration Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul Hutchison officiating. Burial will be at the Florence National Cemetery in Florence.

A native of Rapid City, S.D., he was a son of Florence Zerelda Deurmier Wendt of Hamilton, Ohio, and the late Harold O'Lonnie Wendt. He was a retired U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his son, William M. Wendt of Carson, Calif.; two brothers, Kenneth Wendt of Gautier, Miss., and Terry Wendt of Clover; and his sister, June W. Maggard of Hamilton.

The family will receive friend from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home.

Violet Wright

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Violet Baker Wright, 65, of 998 Hollis Lakes Road died Thursday, June 24, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jimmy Holley officiating. Burial will be at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens.

A native of Great Falls, Mrs. Wright was a daughter of the late Emmette N. Baker and Elizabeth Marthers Baker. She was retired from Smith Enterprises and was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Swain W. Wright; her son, Swain E. Wright of Rock Hill; her daughter, Bonte´ Hunsucker of Rock Hill; her brother, Bill "Sonny" Baker of Great Falls; her sister, Annette Williams of Rock Hill; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Swain E. Wright, 2260 Olewoods Drive.

Memorials may be made to Eastside Baptist Church, 318 N. Jones Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Alice Young

BETHUNE - Mrs. Alice Melton Young, 87, of 206 Fair St. died Thursday, June 24, 1999, at Kershaw County Medical Center in Camden.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Revs. Charles Miller and Homer Hinson officiating. Burial will be at Bethune Baptist Church Cemetery.

A native of Bethune, Mrs. Young was a daughter of the late Daniel Melton and Gillie Davis Melton. She was a member of the Beaver Dam Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 96. She was retired from Tic Tac.

Surviving are four sons, Pete Young of Elgin, Jimmy Young of Bethune, Leroy Melton of Avenel, N.J., and Paul Melton of New Kingston, Pa.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Young, 109 Inwood St., Bethune.

Evelyn Ballard

CLOVER - Evelyn Maxine Underwood Ballard, 55, of North Sumter Street died Friday, June 25, 1999, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Faith Baptist Church in Clover, with the Revs. Mark Collins and Jerry Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

A native of Mecklenburg County, N.C., Mrs. Ballard was employed by Cramer Home Fashions in Belmont, N.C., and was a member of Faith Baptist Church. She was the daughter of Katherine Knight Underwood Mitchell of Charlotte and the late Howard Underwood.

Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Troy Gerald "Jerry" Ballard; her son, Troy Ballard of Gastonia, N.C.; her sister, Marie Brock of Stanley; her grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the funeral.

Zoe Cooper

EDGEMOOR - Mrs. Zoe Ellen Cooper, 78, of 4513 Edgeland Road died Friday, June 25, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at the Lando Church of God, with the Rev. Charles LaFoy officiating. Burial will be at the Lando Cemetery.

A native of Albion, Mich., Mrs. Cooper is a daughter of the late John and Zoe Sears Cooper. She was a member of the Lando Church of God and a retiree of the Manetta Mills in Lando. Mrs. Cooper is the widow of Azille Cooper.

Surviving are her son, Steve Cooper of Rock Hill; two daughters, Janet Amsler of Edgemoor and Peggy Catoe of Kershaw; her brother, Glenn Cooper of Albion, Mich.; two nieces she raised after their mother's death, Catherine Corriell of Tekonsha, Mich. and Marilyn Frick of Harickville, Mich.; two nephews she raised after their mother's death, Roland Bowersox and Gary Bowersox, both of Bronson, Mich.; four grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Greene Funeral Home in Rock Hill and at other times at the home.

Edith Lightner

LAKE WYLIE - Mrs. Edith Miller Lightner, 74, of 5639 Creole Road died Saturday, June 26, 1999, at home.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at River Hills Community Church, with the Rev. Russ Brown officiating.

A native of Baltimore, Mrs. Lightner was an accountant for Design and Manufacturer. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Edith Worley Miller.

Surviving are her husband, Charles Lightner; her son, Michael Gary Lightner of Charlotte; her daughter, Kathleen Lightner Rudzki of Maryland; her brother, Edward Charles Miller of Shreveport, La.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends immediately after the service.

Memorials may be made to ALS Clinic of North Carolina, c/o Carolinas Medical Center.

Anthony Peoples Jr.

ROCK HILL - Anthony Eugene Peoples Jr., the infant son of Anthony Eugene Peoples Sr. and the late Minnie Lorraine Carter Peoples., of 1706 India Hook Road, Apt. 102, died Wednesday, June 23, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Monday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel. Burial will be at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens.

Surviving in addition to his father are two sisters, Andria Marie Peoples and Alicia Lorraine Peoples, both of the home; his paternal grandparents, Elijah Peoples Sr. and Lucinda Mobley Peoples of Fort Mill; his maternal grandparents, Willis K.P. Carter and Jacqueline Elaine Eppse Carter of Charlotte; his paternal great-grandfather, Robert M. Hudson of Washington, D.C.; and his maternal great-grandfather, Robert Eppse of Charlotte.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 3:45 p.m. Monday at the Cauthen Funeral Home.

Minnie Peoples

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Minnie Lorraine Carter Peoples, 35, of 1706 India Hook Road, Apt. 102, died Wednesday, June 23, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Monday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel. Burial will be at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens.

A native of Binghamton, N.Y., Mrs. Peoples was a homemaker and a member of the Rock Hill congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

She was the daughter of Willis K.P. Carter and Jacqueline Elaine Eppse Carter of Charlotte.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, Anthony Eugene Peoples Sr.; two daughters, Andria Marie Peoples and Alicia Lorraine Peoples, both of the home; five brothers, Bruce Carter and Isaac Carter, both of Charlotte, Willis Carter Jr. of Binghamton and Jonathan Carter and Matthew Carter, both of Surfside Beach; three sisters, Brenda Gregory and Patricia Durham, both of Charlotte, and Naida Vega of Murrells Inlet; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 3:45 p.m. Monday at the Cauthen Funeral Home's Rock Hill Chapel.

William Ramsey

SHARON - William Seth Ramsey, the infant son of Judith Brown Ramsey and James E. Ramsey, of 4025 Purgatory Ridge Road died Friday, June 25, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Woodlawn Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. James McGill officiating.

Surviving in addition to his parents are two brothers, Joshua and Christian Ramsey, both of Sharon; his maternal grandparents, Paul and Judy Brown of Rock Hill; his maternal great grandmother, Maureen Smethers of York; and his paternal grandparents, Edward Brice and Dorothy Ramsey of Sharon.

The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the church fellowship hall.

Memorials may be made to Woodlawn Presbyterian Church, 3852 Woodlawn St., Sharon, SC 29742.

J.C. Allison

CHARLOTTE - Mr. J.C. Allison, 71, of White Oak Manor and formerly of Sumter Street Extension in Clover died Friday, June 25, 1999, at his home.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Green Pond United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Charles White officiating and the the Rev. Keith Hunter assisting. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Mr. Allison was a faithful member of the Green Pond United Methodist Church in Clover.

Surviving are seven daughters, Josephine Ross, Sallie Boyd, Roberta Allison and Bertha Bailey, all of Clover, Mable Watkins and Nancy Boyd, both of Gastonia, N.C., and Diane Cunningham of Brentwood, N.Y.; two sons, Samuel Allison of Clover and Donald Allison of York; his sister, Mary Whitsoant of Gastonia, N.C.; 32 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Wright Funeral Home and at other times at the residence Mable Watkins, 1812 Garland Avenue, Gastonia, N.C.

Dolores Broadbent

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Dolores Jean Broadbent, 69, of Rock Hill died Friday, June 25, 1999, at Mecklenburg Health Care Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lakewood Baptist Church, Rock Hill, with the Rev. Tim Tomlinson officiating.

Born June 15, 1930, in New Castle, Pa., Mrs. Broadbent was a furniture salesperson and a member of Croton Avenue Methodist Church in New Castle. She was the daughter of Elizabeth Mae Rico Houston Smith and the late Floyd Houston.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband, James D. Broadbent; her son, Jeffrey A. Broadbent of Rock Hill; her daughter, Renee L. Santoro of Pineville, N.C.; her sister, Joan H. Santia of New Castle; and one grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel, and other times at the home, 2494 Colebrook Drive. Entombment will be at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens.
