Andy Mobley

NEWARK, N.J. - Mr. Andy W. Mobley Jr., 76, of 639 N. 5th St., and formerly of Rock Hill, died Friday, July 2, 1999, in Union, N.J.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Union Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jesse J. Brown officiating.

Survivors include his wife Ella Mobley; four sons Andy Mobley III of Woodbury, Minn., David Mobley of Lafayette, La., Harry Neal and Charles Mullins, both of Rock Hill; three daughters Betty Hargraves of Salisbury, N.C., Helen Smith of Tea Neck, N.J., and Darlene Adams-White of Charlotte; his brother Charles Mobley of Rock Hill; three sisters Mary Burris of Rhaway, N.J., Gussie Stinson of Orange, N.J., and Mattie Neal of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at Perry Funeral Home, 34 Mercer Street, Newark, N.J. 07103.

Robinson Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

W. Gilbert Pendergrass

GREAT FALLS - Mr. W. Gilbert Pendergrass, 60, of 101 Magnolia Ave. died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at his home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Baptist Church, with the Rev. Darrell Twitty officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

Mr. Pendergrass was a native of Chester County. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. He was a manufacturing supervisor at Synteen Technology Corp. in Lancaster. He was a graduate of Great Falls High School and Spartanburg Business College.

Mr. Pendergrass was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Vietnam.

He was the son of the late John and Bertha Tuttle Pendergrass.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Garner Pendergrass; two sons James Gil Pendergrass of Indian Land and Jamie Brown of Great Falls; his daughter, Beverly Price of Cowpens; his niece Kala Keenan of the home; his brother, Ray Pendergrass of Catawba; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

Howard Rosen

FORT MILL - Mr. Howard Jay Rosen, 38, of 316 Viola St., died Sunday, July 4, 1999, in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cauthen Funeral Home in Rock Hill, with the Rev. Art Gatewood officiating. Burial will be at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Rosen was a native of Miami. He was employed at General Tire. He was also the owner and operator of Twin States Tax Service.

He was the son of Jerome Harold Rosen and Patricia Ann Wilson.

Survivors include his mother, Patricia Ann Wilson of Fort Mill; his step-father, William Leroy Wilson Jr., of Fort Mill; his brother Leonard Wilson of Fort Mill; and his companion, Brandon Johnson of Fort Mill.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel.

Floyd Thomas

LANCASTER - Mr. Floyd E. Thomas, 71, of 1365 Jefferson St. died Saturday, July 3, 1999, in Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Van Wyck, with the Rev. Ray Cureton and Pastor Ron E. Thomas officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mr. Thomas was a Chester County native. He was a member and elder of Trinity Presbyterian Church. He was a retired Lancaster Vocational School teacher. He taught auto mechanics for 26 years.

Mr. Thomas served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict.

He was the son of the late Floyd Columbus and Violet Turner Thomas.

Survivors include his wife, Marianne Daniel Thomas of Lancaster; two sons, Ronald Eugene Thomas of Plantsville, Conn., and Walter A. "Wally" Thomas of Lancaster; his daughter, Melba Ramsey of Plantsville, Conn.; his brother, Harvey Thomas of Rock Hill; two sisters, Nancy Lock and Grace Forbis, both of Chester; and nine grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Faye Whitlow

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Faye Reeder Whitlow, 79, of 3380 Timothy Drive died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at Beverly Health Care Center.

The funeral will be noon Wednesday at Catawba Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tommy Huddleston officiating.

Mrs. Whitlow was a native of Cabarrus County, N.C. She retired in 1982 from Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. She was a member of Catawba Baptist Church.

She was a daughter of the late Wriston Reeder and Janetta Reeder.

Survivors include her husband, Ray Whitlow; three sons, Bill Whitlow of Kannapolis, N.C., Gary Whitlow of Charlotte and Danny Whitlow of Rock Hill; her daughter, Kay Parker of Rock Hill; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her sister, Sadie Polinske of New York.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of her daughter, Kay Parker, 828 Briarfield Road.

Myrtle Baker

WHITMIRE - Mrs. Myrtle Matthews Baker, 80, of 23368 S.C. 121 died Monday, July 5, 1999, at her residence.

The funeral is 11 a.m. today at St. Timothy Lutheran Church.

Burial will be in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church cemetery in Little Mountain.

A native of Little Mountain, Mrs. Baker was a 1940 graduate of Newberry College. She was a retired public school teacher and taught in Elloree, Little Mountain, Lexington and Whitmire. She was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church.

Surviving are her husband, Paul Baker; two daughters, Donna Haselden of Elgin and Paula B. Gatlin of Rock Hill; her sister, Reba M. Swygert of Columbia; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Timothy Lutheran Church.

Claudia Bowers

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Claudia Jean Bridges Bowers, 43, of 1444-B York Road died July 3, 1999, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, N.C.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Bobby Mims officiating. Burial will be at Mountain Rest Cemetery.

A native of Mayfield, Ky., Mrs. Bowers was the former office clerk for Swift Construction Co. in Greenville.

Survivors include her companion, John Carlton Threatt of Kings Mountain; her mother, Day Bridges of Mayfield; two daughters, Brandy Toon and Lee Ann Benjamin, both of Mayfield; two brothers, Tommy Bridges and Mark Bridges, both of Mayfield; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Harris Funeral Home in Kings Mountain.

Betty Campbell

FORT MILL - Mrs. Betty Day Campbell, 64, of 148 Still Ave. died Tuesday, July 6, 1999 at the home of her daughter, Donna Campbell.

The graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Lakeview Memory Gardens, with the Father David Valtierria officiating.

A native of Tulia, Texas, Mrs. Campbell was a daughter of the late James G. Day and the late Ruth Boon Day. She was the widow of Warren J. Campbell. She was retired from Franklin's Clothing Store in Rock Hill.

Surviving are her three sons, Larry Campbell of Galveston, Texas, David Campbell of Rock Hill and Warren "Drew" Campbell of Clover; two daughters, Julie Hefner of Richburg and Donna Campbell of Fort Mill; her brother, Jack Day of Tyler, Texas; her sister, Violet McKinney of Tyler, Texas; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of York County, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Donald Carter

GRIFFIN, Ga. - Mr. Donald Ladson Carter, 63, of 621 Seminole Drive, formerly of York County, died Monday, July 5, 1999 at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at McCullough Funeral Home in Griffin, Ga., with the Rev. James Burleson officiating.

Entombment will follow in Westwood Mausoleum.

A native of York County, Mr. Carter was a son of the late John Irvin Carter and the late Nellie Deviny Carter. He was retired from the U.S. Marines as a Master Gunnery Sgt. and served in Vietnam. He and his wife owned and operated the K.C. Diesel Sales. He was a member of the Masons in South Carolina.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine Carter; his son, Donald L. Carter, Jr. of Rex, Ga.; three daughters, Tracy Richardson of Hampton, Ga., Connie Smith of Greensboro, N.C., and Sonya Ray of Buffalo, Wyo.; two brothers, Roy Carter of South Carolina and John Carter of Lancaster; his sister, Jane Nunnery of Lancaster, S.C.; and seven grandchildren.

McCullough Funeral Home is in charge.

Susie Davis

FORT LAWN - Mrs. Susie Stinson Davis, 88, of 1095 Stinson Road died Monday, July 5, 1999 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Mt. Zion AME Zion Church No. 1 in Landsford, with the Rev. Alan L. Stewart officiating and assisted by brother James A. Hayes, Dr. Marian Crawford and sister Tina Blakeney. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Davis was the daughter of James L. Stinson, Jr. and Mamie Johnson Stinson. She was the widow of Neal Davis Sr. She was a member of Mt. Zion AME Zion Church No. 1 and attended schools in Chester County. She was a retired domestic worker.

Surviving are three sons, Hyder Davis of the home, James H. Davis of Catawba and Thomas "Alex" Davis of Fort Lawn; two daughters, Sadie Tidwell and Jessie Crosby, both of Fort Lawn; two grandchildren raised in the home, Debora Cousar of Fort Lawn and Barbara Speech of Philadelphia; 11 other grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends at the home of Joe and Sadie Tidwell, 1095 Stinson Road, Fort Lawn.

The body may be viewed from 2 to 9 p.m. today, from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. The body will be carried to the church at 2 p.m. Friday.

Gerald Hensley

LANCASTER - Mr. Gerald "Slick" Hensley, 51, of 1965 High Point Circle, died Tuesday, July 6, 1999 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Taylors Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. N.J. Neely officiating.

Mr. Hensley was the son of the late Ernest Franklin Hensley and Audrey Hensley. He worked as an auto body repairman for more than 35 years and was at Chandlers Auto Body Shop for 20 years.

He was also a member of the Lancaster Moose Lodge and the Lancaster Golf Club.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Hensley, five daughters, Vicki Radabaugh of Tucson, Ariz., Terressa Hensley and Donna Barrett, both of Lancaster, Sharon Taylor of Pikeville, Ky., and Joli Stevens of Clover; five brothers, Jimmy Hensley, Tommy Henley, Roger Hensley, Ronald Hensley and Joey Hensley, all of Lancaster; three half-brothers, Bill Hensley of West Asheville, N.C., John Hensley of Sacramento, Calif., and Ray Hensley of Atlanta; two half-sisters, Betty Williams of Baltimore and Lib Mobley of Charlotte; and 14 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster chapel and other times at the home, 1965 High Point Circle, Lancaster.

William Holmes

ROCK HILL - Mr. William "Bill" Edwin Holmes, 73, of 618 South Jones Ave. died Monday, July 5, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Laurelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. A.L. Hensley officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Holmes was the son of the late Aaron Holmes and Laura Dunnigan Holmes. He was a World War II veteran and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Holmes retired from Hoescht-Celanese, where he worked for more than 30 years as a mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Holmes; two daughters, Rosa Martin of Rock Hill and Beverly Clemment of St. George; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of his wife at 631 Walnut St.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

Howard Johnson

CLOVER- Mr. Howard S. Johnson, 77, of 1298 Highway 55 West died Tuesday, July 6, 1999 at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Paul Hutchison officiating. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Johnson was the son of the late Sylvester Patrick Johnson and Julia Smart Johnson. He was the owner and operator of Howard Johnson's Drive-in in Clover. Mr. Johnson served as a member of the First National Bank of S.C., Divine Saviour Hospital, Clover Lions Club and the First United Methodist Church in Clover.

Surviving are his wife, Lois Johnson; his son, Mac Johnson of Clover; and four sisters, Mary Kelly of Clover, Gladys Glenn of Florida, Ruth Smith of Rock Hill and Linda Currence of Clover.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford and Sons Funeral Home in Clover.
