Jeanette Kelly

YORK - Mrs. Jeanette Horton Kelly, 81, of 243 Amity Drive died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church of York, with the Rev. J. Todd Speed officiating.

A native of Iredell County, N.C., Mrs. Kelly was a daughter of the late Joseph Ernest and Estelle Tolbert Horton. She was a member and a trustee of the First Presbyterian Church of York.

She was a former member of the First Baptist Church of York and authored a genealogical book entitled "My Stewart and Other Kin of Iredell County, N.C."

Mrs. Kelly was the widow of Melvin Lindsay Kelly Sr.

Surviving are two sisters, Elizabeth H. Hall And Laura Horton, both of York; her daughter-in-law, Blanche Kelly Bryant of York; two grandchildren, Jeanette Kelly Simpkins of York and Hope Powell Kelly of Charlotte; two step-grandchildren, Beth B. Tolson and Melissa Bryant; two great-grandchildren; and a step-great-granddaughter.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home in York.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Family Life Center, 10 W. Liberty St., York, SC 29745.

Thelma Moss

YORK - Mrs. Thelma Louise Traylor Moss, 75, of 2285 Cedar Road, died Thursday, July 8, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Emmanuel Holiness Church, with the Rev. John Smith officiating and the Revs. Roy Ivey and Mike Clinton assisting. Burial will be at the Hickory Grove Church of God cemetery.

A native of Sharon, Mrs. Moss was a daughter of the late Richard Hobson and Nancy Montgomery Traylor. She was a member of Emmanuel Holiness Church and taught Sunday School for more than 50 years at churches in her community. She was retired from Cannon Mills and American Thread, where she worked as a winder for 23 years.

Surviving are her husband, Dan Moss of the home; her daughter, Danette M. Brakefield of York; three brothers, Jimmy Traylor of Sharon, Bobby Traylor of York and Joe Traylor of Gastonia, N.C.; three sisters, Kathleen Leverette of Spartanburg, Rosa Lee Burkette of Bessemer City, N.C., and Sara Whitney of Lincoln, Neb.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Danette M. Brakefield, 118 Brown Neal Road.

Willie Peterson

CHESTER - Mr. Willie Sam Peterson, of 8 Belt Road died Thursday, July 8, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Chestnut Grove AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Ralph Cunningham officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Peterson was a son of the late James Peterson and Janie B. Johnson Peterson. He attended public school in Chester County and worked as a concrete finisher. He was a member of Chestnut Grove AME Zion Church.

Surviving are six sons, Willie Foster of Blackstock, Christopher M. Peterson, Stephen D. Peterson, Gabriel D. Gregory, Sundray D. Gregory and Tyquan J. Gregory, all of Chester; five daughters, Bobbie Peterson, Lachan A. Knox, Trevonda P. Hemphill, Latange M. Peterson and Samantha B. Gregory, all of Chester; six sisters, Mildred Harrison of Chester, Annie R. Wrentz of District Height, Md., Carolyn Toliver of Baltimore, Md., Cassandra P. Atcherson of Bowie, Md., and Bessie M. Moore and Drucilla Peterson, both of Washington, D.C.; two brothers, Ernest J. Peterson of Philadelphia, and Arthur Peterson of Rock Hill; a special friend, Willie Mae Gregory of Chester; his godson, David L. Gregory; 29 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends at 8 Belk Road, 2640 Aaron Burr Road and also at the home of his daughter, Trevonda P. Hemphill, 209 W. End St.

The body may be viewed from 7 to 8 tonight at Christopher King's Funeral Home, and Monday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the church.

Wilton Timmons

CLINTON - Mrs. Wilton B. Timmons, 89, formerly of 607 S. Broad St. died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at The Inn retirement home in Laurens.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday in the Gray Funeral Home chapel in Clinton. Burial will be in Rosemont cemetery.

A native of Spartanburg, Mrs. Timmons was a daughter of the late James Fred Broom and Mary Elizabeth Broom. She was a graduate of Winthrop College, a retired teacher and a member of the First Baptist Church. She was the widow of Shirley A. Timmons.

Surviving are her daughter, Shirley Ann McKee of Rock Hill; her sister, Mrs. Winfred B. Poole of Spartanburg; and two grandsons.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the Gray Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 301 S. Broad St., Clinton, SC 29325.

Robert Baker

FORT LAWN - Mr. Robert Lynn Baker, 47, of 5638 Hillsdale Drive died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Mahaffey Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, with Dr. Stuart Snow officiating. Burial will be at Taxahaw cemetery.

Born in Lancaster County, Mr. Baker was a son of William Baker and Desserene Stein Baker. He was an employee of Bowers Fibers Inc.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Mitzi Daniels Baker of Fort Lawn; two sons, Joshua E. Baker and James O. Baker, both of Richburg; his daughter, Lynzi Rená Baker of Fort Lawn; two brothers, Roger Dale Baker of Lancaster and Franklin D. Stein of Kershaw; and his sister, Vicki G. Baker of Lancaster. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Tommie Barber

ROCK HILL - Miss Tommie Mae Barber, 69, of 1116 Cypress St. died Thursday, July 8, 1999 at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Flint Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. W. B. White officiating and the Revs. nald Broome and Fred J. Blakely assisting. Burial will be at Barber Memorial cemetery.

Miss Barber was the daughter of the late Henry Massey and the late Lonnie Mae Biggers. She was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church where she was former president of Choir No. 1 and the Sunday school, children/youth choir advisor, youth usher board advisor, a custodian for the church and chair of several church fundraiser committees. She was a Boy/Cub Scout leader of Troop 154. She graduated from Emmett Scott High School and was a retired custodian with York County.

Surviving are two sons, Charles L. Barber and Eatchia M. Barber, both of Rock Hill; three daughters, Van D. Heath of Rock Hill, Lonnie M. Hall of Stanford, Conn., and JoAnn Barber of Summersville, N.J.; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home and at 700 N. Confederate St. The body may be viewed from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Parker's Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church at noon Tuesday.

Jacob Cauthen

ROCK HILL - The Rev. Jacob Cauthen of 247 Barber St. died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home Chapel of Remembrance, with the Rev. T. R. Jones officiating and the Revs. Ann Cloud, Ethel Agurs and Johnny Miller assisting.

Burial will be at Barber Memorial cemetery.

A native of Lincolnton, N.C., Rev. Cauthen was a son of the late Rev. McKitcha Cauthen and Marion Cauthen. He attended Emmett Scott High School and was a graduate of Clinton Junior College. He received an associate degree in divinity and elementary education at Friendship Junior College. He also studied at York Technical College. He was a two-year veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from First Federal Savings and Loan Bank after 20 years and later was employed at Rockwell/Meritor in York, where he retired in April after 12 years. He pastored at Mt. Nebo Holiness Church in Rock Hill and at Antioch Holiness Church in Winnsboro and New Jerusalem Holiness Church in Wilkesburg.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Brice Cauthen of the home; his brother, Ezekiel Cauthen of Rock Hill; seven sisters, Catherine C. Wilkes of Baltimore, Md., Martha C. Taylor and Rebecca C. Leaphart, both of Washington, Virginia C. Garvin of Temple Hills, Md., Rosa C. Leftridge of Fort Washington, Md., Stella C. Sterling and Patricia C. Jones, both of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the home.

The body may be viewed from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home.

Marjorie Gladden

BALTIMORE - Mrs. Marjorie Maloney Gladden, 69, formerly of Great Falls, died Tuesday, July 6, 1999, in Baltimore.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Grove AME Zion Church in Great Falls, with Dr. Z. B. Wells officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Gladden was a member of Pleasant Grove AME Zion Church before moving to Baltimore.

Surviving are her daughter, Olivia G. Gaines of Great Falls; three brothers, Oscar Maloney Jr. and Napoleon Maloney, both of Great Falls, and James Maloney of Cinnaminson, N.J.; six sisters, Ruby McCullough of Baltimore, Md., Helen Hankerson of Washington, Peggy M. Young of Blair, Jean M. Young and Gloria M. Cloud, both of Great Falls, and Lola B. Johnson of Camden; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Washington Funeral Home in Great Falls.

Bleeka Grank

CHESTER - Mrs. Bleeka Sigmon Grant, 87, formerly of 553 Howe Road died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at Chester County Nursing Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bethel United Methodist Church, with the Revs. John Williams and John Linderman officiating. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.

A native of Union County, Mrs. Grant was a daughter of the late A.E. Sigmon and Daisy Canupp Sigmon. She attended school in Union County and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

She was retired from Springs Industries.

She was the widow of William Aubrey Grant.

Surviving are four daughters, Frances G. Linderman of Kings Mountain, N.C., Freda G. Howe, Nancy G. Smith and Anita G. Stevens, all of Chester; two sisters, Lena Roberts of Great Falls and Doris Deyton of Lexington, N.C.; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Barron Funeral Home and other times at 553 Howe Road.

Born in Cherokee County, Mr. Childers was a son of the late David Childers and Lucille Dover Childers. He was a doffer at Fruit of the Loom Co. in York.

Surviving are his son, Michael Childers of York; his brother, Howard Childers of York; and two sisters, Mary Lou Childers White of Sharon and Joyce Childers Hamrick of York.

The family will receive friends at Bratton Funeral Home from 7 to 9 tonight.
