Porter Cooper

LANCASTER - Mr. Porter S. Cooper, 78, of 1250 Memorial Park Road died Monday, July 12, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Springdell Baptist Church, with the Revs. Dr. Bill Poore and Rev. Ken Snead officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Andrews, Mr. Cooper was a son of the late John Willie Cooper and Mary Cooper Cooper. He was retired from Springs Industries as a shift supervisor in the spinning department. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Springdell Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Maxine Robinson Cooper; his daughter, Debbie Cooper Snead of Lancaster; his sister, Pearl Horton of Lancaster; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

Dorothy Ghent

ROCK HILL- Mrs. Dorothy Neal Ghent, 77, of 2020 Daffodil Road died Friday, July 9, 1999, in Sarasota, Fla.

The graveside service will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Holly United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Michael Rouse officiating.

A native of Heath Springs, Mrs. Ghent was a daughter of the late Ira Boyd Neal and Dora Bailey Neal. She was the widow of Harvey Lytle Ghent. A homemaker, she was a member of Mount Holly United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Neal Ghent and Dan Ghent, both of Rock Hill; five daughters, Dorothy Brown of Charlotte, Susan Cooper of Cullowhee, N.C., Pat McWey of Vienna, Va., Cathy Medlin of Tampa, Fla., and Helen Hernandez of Sarasota, Fla.; two sisters, Catherine Neal and Vera Hunter, both of Heath Springs; 15 grandchildren; and a a great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and a other times at the home of Dan and Charmaine Ghent, 2105 Strawberry Lane.

Marjorie Gladden

BALTIMORE - Mrs. Marjorie Maloney Gladden, 69, formerly of Great Falls, died Tuesday, July 6, 1999, in Baltimore.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Pleasant Grove AME Zion Church in Great Falls, with Dr. Z. B. Wells officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Gladden was a member of Pleasant Grove AME Zion Church before moving to Baltimore.

Surviving are her daughter, Olivia G. Gaines of Great Falls; three brothers, Oscar Maloney Jr. and Napoleon Maloney, both of Great Falls, and James Maloney of Cinnaminson, N.J.; six sisters, Ruby McCullough of Baltimore, Helen Hankerson of Washington, Peggy M. Young of Blair, Jean M. Young and Gloria M. Cloud, both of Great Falls, and Lola B. Johnson of Camden; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The body may be viewed from 9 a.m. to noon today at Washington Funeral Home and from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Pleasant Grove AME Zion Church.

Jack Pittman

LANCASTER - Mr. Jack Sims Pittman, 65, of 2214 J.B. Denton Road died Monday, July 12, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel Baptist Church, with the Revs. Tony Clark and Marion Drye officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Pittman was a son of the late Ira L. Pittman and Minnie Blackmon Pittman. He was retired from from Springs Industries Grace Bleachery shipping department. He was a Marine veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Sybil Flynn Pittman; two sons, Anthony "Tony" Pittman and Nelson Pittman, both of Lancaster; his daughter, Yvonne Pittman Mackey of Lancaster; three brothers, Luther Pittman and Howard Pittman, both of Lancaster and Louis Pittman of Mandan, N.D.; three sisters, Sara Barton, Nancy Gainer and Louise Baker, all of Lancaster; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

Dolores Poché

CROWLEY, La. - Mrs. Dolores Breaux Poché, 68, formerly of Rock Hill, died Tuesday, July 6, 1999, at home.

The funeral was Friday at St. Michael Catholic Church. Burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery.

A native of New Orleans, Mrs. Poché was a graduate of Sacred Heart College in Belmont, N.C. in 1950. She and her husband moved to Crowley in 1960. She was member of St. Michael Catholic Church and a Lady of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem. She was a member of the Red Bobbin Sewing Club and active in service to Catholic education.

Surviving are her husband, Leon K. Poché Sr.; two sons, Leon K. Poché Jr. of New Orleans and Timothy J. Poché of The Woodlands, Texas; her parents, Edward L. Breaux and Selma B. Breaux of Rock Hill; two sisters, Janet B. Sorensen of Hickory, N.C., and Janice B. Moore of Chester; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Notre Dame High School of Acadia Parish, Dolores Poché Scholarship Fund.

Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home was in charge.

Gerald Rector

CATAWBA - Mrs. Gerald Jordan Rector, 64, of 4049 Carl Barton Road died Sunday, July 11, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Vision Freewill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Daggett Duncan officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Rector was a daughter of Phil Bennett of Rock Hill and the late Louise Bennett. A homemaker, she was a charter member of New Vision Freewill Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her father are her husband, Charles W. Rector of Rock Hill; two sons, Charles J. Rector of Rock Hill and Phillip R. "Bobby" Rector of Lewisville; two daughters, Jeanne R. Johnson of Rock Hill and Karen R. Tervette of Biloxi, Miss.; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at New Vision Freewill Baptist Church and at other times at the home of her daughter, Jeanne Johnson, 1437 Elder Road, Rock Hill.

Spencer Robinson

LANCASTER - Mr. Spencer John Robinson, 84, of 1364 Colony Road died Monday, July 12, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hopewell United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Robert Hopper and Rodney Powell officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Robinson was a son of the late Lewis Pinkney Robinson and Lois Ellis Robinson. He was retired from Springs Industries customer service division in production scheduling. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church and where he served on the local and district levels. He was a trustee of the S.C. Conference. He was a member of the school board at Buford and also served on the Lancaster County School Board.

Surviving are his wife, Sibyl Duncan Robinson; his son, Jimmy Robinson of Lancaster; two brothers, Malcolm "Tally" Robinson of Columbia and Carl Robinson of Denver, N.C.; four sisters, Kate Moriarty of Columbia, Annie Mildred Faulkenberry of Lancaster, Edna Hinson of Great Falls and Eileen Hill of Santee.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

Frances Wolfe

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Frances Powers Wolfe, 81, of 2533 Saluda Road died Monday, July 12, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bethel United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Fayetteville, N.C., Mrs. Wolfe was a daughter of the late C.F. Powers and Lula Grantham Powers. She was the widow of Otis D. Wolfe. A homemaker, Mrs. Wolfe was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her son, Phillip D. Wolfe of Rock Hill; two daughters, Anita W. Gainey of Godwin, N.C., and Donna W. Witter of Rock Hill; two brothers, Paul N. Powers of Fayetteville, N.C., and Mike Powers of Jacksonville, N.C.; her sister, Beatrice Durgan; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Frances Brown

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Frances L. King Brown, 46, of 1215 Bose Ave. died Sunday, July 11, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Souls for Christ, with the Rev. Ruperd G. Currence officiating and the Rev. Gwendolyn Blake assisting. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Brown was a daughter of the late Marion Reid and Mary King June. She was a cook at Quincy's Family Steakhouse. A member of Souls for Christ, she was an usher and member of the choir.

Surviving are her husband, Sherman L. Brown of Charlotte; two sons, Timothy Bernard King of the home and James Andrew King of York; two brothers, Alfonzo June and Alonzo June, both of Rock Hill; three sisters, Dorothy Burris and Crystal Goods, both of Rock Hill, and Mary Ervin of Long Island, N.Y.; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body may be viewed from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Parker Funeral Home.

Elsie Farris

DARLINGTON - Miss Elsie Harriett Farris, 91, formerly of York, died Tuesday, July 13, 1999, at Bethea Baptist Home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Bratton Funeral Home in York, with the Rev. Dr. Randy Gardner officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in York.

A native of York, Miss Farris was a daughter of the late Jessie J. Farris and Mary Stewart Farris. A telephone supervisor, she was retired from Southern Bell Telephone Co. She was a member of Southern Bell Pioneers and First Baptist Church in York.

Surviving are two sisters, Evelyn Robinson and Rachael Robinson, both of York; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Bratton Funeral Home.

LAKE WYLIE - Mrs. Alice Lucille Hickey, 78, of Lake Wylie died Monday, July 12, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at River Hills Community Church, with the Revs. Jeffrey Vickery, Tonya Vickery and Russ Brown officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Whittier, Calif.

A native of Buffalo, Okla., Mrs. Hickey was a graduate of the University of Southern California and a retired school teacher.

She was a member of River Hills Community Church.

Surviving are her husband, Whalen K. Hickey of the home; her son, Robert Douglas Hickey of Long Beach, Calif.; and three grandsons.

The family will receive friends after the service.

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Oscar Maloney Jr., 76, of 546 Arrowwood Road died Sunday, July 11, 1999, at his home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Pine Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. J.A. McFarland officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Maloney was a son of the late General Oscar Maloney and Lula Barber Maloney. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and former member of Pleasant Grove AME Zion Church. He was a former employee of Duke Power and a retired painter. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife, Viola C. Maloney; five stepsons, Eric Sanders and Tommy Caldwell, both of the home, David Sanders of Blackstock, Iquan Sanders of Chester and Willie Caldwell of Great Falls; three stepdaughters, Angela Strong of the home, Rhonda Caldwell of Great Falls and Bessie Mae Young of Blackstock; two brothers, Napoleon Maloney of Great Falls and James W. Maloney of Cinnimison, N.J.; seven sisters, Ruby McCullough of Baltimore, Helen Ankerson of Washington, Lola Johnson of Camden, Jean Young, Gloria Cloud, and Olivia Gaines, all of Great Falls, Peggy Young of Blair; 15 stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at King's Funeral Home, 2367 Douglas Road, Great Fall.

The body will be taken to the church at 2 p.m. Thursday.
