Christine Bryant

LANCASTER - Mrs. Christine Virginia Williams Bryant, 72, of 1122 Old Thompson Road died Thursday, July 15, 1999, at home.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Shiloh ARP Church, with the Rev. David Lauten officiating.

A native of Union County, N.C., Mrs. Bryant was a daughter of the late Junior Richard Williams and Lula Mae Knight Williams.

She was the widow of Kermit Fulton Bryant. She was retired from Springs Industries and a member of Shiloh ARP Church.

Surviving are four daughters, Nancy Winters of Rock Hill, and Diann Gaskin, Gay Ghent and Lucy Robertson, all of Lancaster; two brothers, Robert James of Lancaster and Boyce James of Columbia; two sisters, Margaret West of York and Joyce Gardner of Williamston; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lancaster, 800 W. Meeting St., Lancaster, SC 29720 or to Shiloh ARP Church, 346 Shiloh Unity Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Mattie Sanders

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Mrs. Mattie Catherine Sims Sanders, 97, formerly of Chester County, died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at St. Francis Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Chester, with the Rev. James W. Hope officiating and the Rev. Quinton Sanders assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Sanders joined Bethlehem Baptist Church at an early age.

In 1963, she joined Mount Moriah Church in Philadelphia. She was the widow of Joesephus Sanders.

Surviving are three children, Helen Favetta of Jersey City, and Jornine Poole and Thomas Sanders, both of Philadelphia; three sisters, Laura Buckson of Rock Hill, Lillie Sims of Chester and Louise Sims of High Point, N.C.; two brothers, Bernard Sims of Philadelphia and Gilly Sims of Virginia; 23 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Freida Sanders Houston, 109 Mill St., Chester.

The body may be viewed from 5 to 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road.

The body will be taken to the church at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Mary Coger

ROCK HILL - Ms. Mary Phyllis Goodwin Coger, 76, of 310 N. Confederate Ave. died Wednesday, July 14, 1999, at Beverly Health Care.

The funeral will be private.

A native of Jane Lew, W.Va., Ms. Coger was a daughter of the late Ross Goodwin and Rita Lillian Robertson Goodwin. She was a retired bookkeeper and a Marine veteran of World War II.

Surviving are three sons, Steven Paul Coger of Indianapolis, Warren Dell Coger of Rock Hill and Philip Even Coger of Charlotte; and her daughter, Jean Christa Coger of Ohio.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

Elizabeth Joseph

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Elizabeth Joseph, 87, of 215 Judson Ave., formerly of York County, died Friday, July 9, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Wright Funeral Home in York, with the Rev. Daniel Joseph officiating. Burial will be at Pineville AME Zion Church.

Mrs. Joseph joined Pineville AME Zion Church at an early age and later joined Little Rock AME Zion Church in Charlotte.

Surviving are her daughter, Bernice Smith of the home; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Wright Funeral Home in York.

Gladys Miller

ONEONTA, N.Y. - Mrs. Gladys May Miller, 87, formerly of Sidney, N.Y., and York, died Sunday, July 11, 1999 at A.O. Fox Nursing Home.

The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York.

A native of Allamuchy, N.J., Mrs. Miller was a daughter of the late John Nelson Poole and Carrie Louise Stafford Poole. She was the widow of Lester F. Miller. She moved to New York in 1994 from York.

Surviving are her sister, Margaret L. Carlin of Oneonta; and several nieces and nephews.

Bratton Funeral Home in York is in charge of local arrangements.

Robert Phillips Jr.

LANCASTER - Mr. Robert David "Flip" Phillips Jr., 68, of 106 Wylie Park Road died Thursday, July 15, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Hartley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Marty Cox officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Kershaw County, Mr. Phillips was a son of the late Robert David Phillips Sr. and Minnie Stewart Phillips. He was a retired electrician with the Union Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of White Springs Baptist Church, the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are his son, David Robert Allman of Lancaster; his brother, Ray Phillips of Columbus, Ohio; three sisters, Dora Deese, Alma Roberts and Margaret Gardner, all of Lancaster; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

John Stegall

ROCK HILL - Mr. John Van Stegall, 73, of 1644 Trimnal Lane died Tuesday, July 13, 1999, at home.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bill Shytle officiating.

A native of Monroe, N.C., Mr. Stegall was a son of the late Marion D. Stegall and Ida Simpson Stegall. Mr. Stegall was of the Baptist faith. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and retired from Ryder Trucking Co.

Surviving are his wife, Garlean Ross Stegall; three sons, Chuck A. Henson of Orangeburg, Randy Stegall of the home and Eddie A. Stegall of Spartanburg; his daughter, Cynthia D. Terry of Spartanburg; three sisters, Elizabeth Howie of Charlotte, Mildred Powell of Downey, Calif., and Evelyn Foltin of Dearfield Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Greene Funeral Home after the service.

Georgia Thomas

CHESTER - Mrs. Georgia Lonavay McManus Thomas, 74, of 646 Willow Court died Thursday, July 15, 1999, at Chester County Hospital.

The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Evergreen Cemetery, with the Rev. Steve Bishop officiating.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Thomas was a daughter of the late Bean McManus and Eva Lee Wilkes McManus. She was formerly employed with Springs Industries.

Surviving are three daughters, Brenda M. Welch and Barbara M. Mobley, both of Chester, Patsy M. Castles of Winnsboro; her brother, James P. McManus of Chester; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wright's Home for Funerals.

Memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church, 641 Saluda St., Chester, SC 29706.

Hallie Allietta

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Hallie M. Allietta died Friday, July 16, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hopko Funeral Home in Parma, Ohio. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Surviving are her husband, Howard B. Allietta; two sons, Delton C. Baire and Bert Baire Jr., both of Rock Hill; her daughter, Carolyn S. Gennaro of Dennison, Ohio; her sister, Ina Piper of Florida; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hopko Funeral Home, 6020 Broadview Road, Parma, Ohio.

Ella Butler

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Ella Ruth Butler, 70, of 1611 Constitution Blvd. died Friday, July 15, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Friendship United Methodist Church, with the Revs. David Taylor and Paul Hutchison officiating. Entombment will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Summerville, Mrs. Butler was a daughter of the late Joseph Sidney Kenyon Jr. and Emily Ruth Sillivant Kenyon. She was the widow of the Rev. Roy Butler. Mrs. Butler was a retired legal secretary and a member of Friendship United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her son, Keith D. Butler of Chesterfield; her daughter, Karen B. Helms of Rock Hill; her brother, Joseph Sidney Kenyon III of Georgetown; two sisters, Mary Anna Grant of Marion, N.C., and Evelyn Gertrude Bradley of Savannah, Ga.; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bass Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Karen B. Helms.

Elmira Harris

PHILADELPHIA - Mrs. Elmira Knighton Harris, formerly of Rock Hill, died Wednesday, July 14, 1999, at Manor Care Nursing Home.

The funeral will be 8 p.m. Sunday at the Tasker Street Baptist Church in Philadelphia with the Rev. James Lovett officiating.

Burial will be at Fernwood Cemetery.

Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Lou Elliott and Zenobia Dancy, both of Philadelphia.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Tasker Street Baptist Church.

Wylie Harris

CHARLOTTE - Mr. Wylie Lee Harris, 69, of Charlotte died Monday, July 12, 1999, at the Brian Center in Salisbury, N.C.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Shiloh Institutional Baptist Church, 2400 Greenland Ave., with the Rev. Clinton Caesar officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Lancaster County.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Harris was a retired truck driver with Underwriters Salvage.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Braham Harris; three sons, Randy Harris and Shawn Harris of the home and Bobby Harris of the Charlotte; his daughter, Tammie Hemphill of Rock Hill; three sisters, Barbara Harris Wright, Shirley Harris Braham and Betty Harris Hawthorne, all of Charlotte; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at 2101 Roslyn Ave. and from 2:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the church.

King's Funeral Home in Charlotte is in charge.

Charles Page

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Mr. Charles Page of Stone Mountain, Ga., formerly of Rock Hill, died Wednesday, July 14, 1999, in Atlanta.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Nazareth Baptist Church, with the Rev. John T. McCoy officiating and the Revs. W.T. Massey, J.H. Bailey, B.R. Wilson and Robert Lindsay assisting.

The Rev. W.E. Page will give the eulogy. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of York County, Mr. Page was a son of Johnnie M. Page of Rock Hill and the late Robert Page. He was a 1968 graduate of Emmett Scott High School. He earned his bachelor's degree at the University of South Carolina and his master's in public administration from Georgia State University. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He was employed at the United States Department of Commerce Bureau of the Census as a survey specialist. He was retired from the U.S. Army with the rank of Major. He served in Korea, Saudi Arabia and Germany. He received the Bronze Star and the Service Award from the 335th Signal FWD Operations. He was a Reserve Commission Officer. He attended the Command and General Staff College. He was an ordained deacon with First Baptist Church in Georgia. He was a member of Nazareth Baptist Church, where he formerly served on the Usher Board, the Junior Musical Choir, the Junior Missionary and was assistant superintendent of the Sunday school.

Surviving in addition to his mother, are his wife, Willa T. Page; his daughter, Ashley Lynn Page of Stone Mountain; and three sisters, Mary Selena Blake of Riverside, Calif., Robbie Page Massey of Lancaster and Margaret P. Anderson of Rock Hill.

The body may be viewed from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday at Robinson Funeral Home.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
